Hey everyone. One minor flaw in this video I've gotten comments about. Pictured is a short RAM intake, instead of a cold air intake. My apologies, I wasn't paying attention when selecting the picture. Also, the spark plugs did NOT give me 55hp; it was from the tune. The spark plugs were necessary in order for the tune to work properly.Hope you enjoy :)
He had his car professionally tuned.. Meaning ecu is hooked up to a separate computer and car runs multiple times on a dyno machine.. the spark plugs were probably required for the extra power creating more fuel combustion... $10 for spark plugs.. He neglected to mention the extra $500-$1000+ for cost of tune and engine management...
500-1000? wow...were do you get your cars tuned lol. ecu is hooked up to a computer....it is reprogrammed...and done. or you can send your ecu core in and have it returned to you. 150-300 bucks and all done. No multiple dyno runs...and sure as hell no 500-1000 cost. lol
i did the same. With my tune they recommend I changed the plugs every 3 oil changes or so. But I have about 12k on mine with the tune and the plugs still look good. Still using NGK...but not the ones for 11 bucks a pop anymore lol. Im running Ngk 1095 now
You're right. And with that, don't get rims that are too heavy! Also read tests about which tire size tests the best. It's not often 20". If you have 22s, don't even worry about "performance tires". They are too heavy and don't turn as well. Sometimes heavier wheels can feel more planted. But name one performance car that has 22s standard. Like a Porsche, lets say.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to get a larger throttle body and then get the cold air intake since the aftermarket throttle body might be bigger than your factory throttle body to cold air intake setup???
I let air out my tires to go faster, also put less oil in the engine, less coolant and run it on less than a quarter tank of fuel. Remove front wipers and washer fluid reservoir. All of this leads to less weight within the car and engine therefore it will go faster. It's been proven that removing the indicator bulbs along with the brake bulbs will effectively give you upto 5bhp (dependant on your car), as they take up a lot of electrical power, and as we all know, electrical power becomes heavy. If you're serious about going faster and being lighter, drain all the transmission fluid out and put only a cap full back in. It will stay lubricated but won't slosh around causing unbalance. I currently run my car as above but I also cut parts of the frame out my car as I don't think I needed them. If it looks useless... Cut it!
A more simplistic way to take care of both the exhaust mods(depending on how strict your state is) is to take your car to a local exhaust shop and get yourself a custom straight piped exhaust or a custom exhaust with high flow mufflers if you're concerned with noise. On the subject of tunes, I would highly recommend getting your flex fuel vehicle tuned out of either E85 or pure gas. Flex fuel vehicles will always be tuned to work only OK with either fuel and not excellent on one of them. I recommend looking around at your local gas stations and seeing if there is enough(or, close enough to be comfortable with only going to one station) stations with E85 and deciding on whether to tune purely for ethanol or to tune out the ethanol capability entirely. Either way will improve both fuel economy and overall performance.
MachineGunIt a short ram intake doesn’t actually take in cold air because it’s so close to the engines heat, real cold air intakes are much further from the motor which actually takes in cold air
Dont forget the brake light fluid also!! That shit is important!! Dont want them bulbs to be dry right?? And and also make sure your trunk is full of small people with there a$$es sticking out farting.. BOOM 💯 + horsepower gain that shit be like NOS.. These be facts... Knowledge is power..
The hood scoop will do a tad but the rest, well some are gonna have a hard time looking for the right stickers and headlight fluid when they aren't mechanically inclined. But wonder why when they put it on the Dyno, hasn't really helped LMAO
Somebody finally mentioned a bigger throttle body! I feel like they are so underrated. I have a short ram intake, bigger throttle and intake manifold to start out my little build. My car makes 140 from the factory and I beat turbo Audis and Jettas all day. not impressive I know but my point is they make a big difference on a relatively light car
Yeah i got my tC straight piped and probably put a turbo but i prefer to save money for my dream car that would be here in america in about 3 to 4 years. I all save money for the other car turbo and tuning that would be needed
"tuning a naturally aspirated car is worthless" I dunno man, picked up ~60hp after tuning my bolted Eclipse over stock. Wouldn't say that was worthless
"Cold Air Intakes" vs "Short Ram Intakes" both tend to do the same thing. Power-wise, that means little to nothing. The only reason to add one is the sound that you get. As for the exhaust, do manifold back for the most power gains, or in your case downpipe back. Adding a tune to ANY car will help your performance greatly if you get it done correctly. Don't buy a "cheap tune" from eBay, get it professionally programmed by a tuning shop. (as you did) The 55hp was from the tune, not the plugs. Just doing plugs gives you little to no extra power. It lets you keep the power you have. A larger throttle body will only help you with bigger injectors as you need more fuel to match more air. Both kinds of headers only work on N/A cars. For a turbo car, the headers are all relatively short as they only feed the turbo. Long tubes grant bigger gains all around for both ranges. Turbos and Superchargers are both awesome options. I personally prefer superchargers due to the complete lack of lag and the ease of installation/price. I much prefer the roots style instead of the centrifugal, but that is a personal preference. As for the cheap part, I don't like getting cheap products as I tend to believe that you get what you pay for on the car side of life as well as others. I'd much prefer to do the job completely and correctly once so as to not have to do it again than to use cheap parts and have to do it over alot. I don't do weight reduction myself. I like all my creature comforts and the look of the finished interior. I like finished interiors even in drag cars. To me, it's more impressive when a car can throw up a good time and keep it's nice interior. Look up hot rod drag week and you'll see a few examples of this. Mostly good advice, though I don't know how "cheap" it'll all be added up. I'd also add that it's easier to start with a standard transmission as they take less work to safely handle alot more power. Keep up the mods and good luck with the Saab.
Yeah, I meant the tune gave me power, not the plugs, but I must have misspoke. I had mine done with professional equipment and I'm happy with it. Thanks for watching
Again, CAIs help the engine breathe. It's not about HP. They help with throttle response. When you use it WITH an exhaust, it really comes into effect. Then add a real ECU interfaced tune and that will do even more. It's just one of those cliché "car guy" things to say about CAIs, bashing them. Because they think about tunes on 1990s four cylinders. No, they actually work well if part of an overall strategy and it's not about the hp number.
THE most important is keep your tires inflated to specs. PS some of your suggestions (especially throttle body) will really screw up your electronics (especially if you have drive-by wire instead of cable) and getting a tuned compensation engine chip(s) for the beefed-up throttle is really expensive if the installer/or you only have a passing acquaintance with the programming aspect of it or how one change in the whole effects other systems.
Basically it all boils down to more air in at a faster rate + more exhaust at a faster rate = more power!!! These are some of the best mods you can do, you are essentially freeing up lost power with not much additional strain on the motor. I haven’t done much with my 9-3 yet but it did come from the factory with a tune for more boost, I like that. Before exhaust I plan suspension upgrades
Intake A tune Upgraded fuel injectors Exhaust system Wheels- yes good wheels can make ur car drive faster and can gain a better mpg Upgraded spark plugs Exhaust headers
As another person mentioned, you will need a decent set of tires and I include brakes and I'd include better, vented rotors. Especially if your putting out alot of HP. You have to be able to control your vehicle
Step 1: Don't make yourself a "cold air intake", cause it won't give you any power gains without a reprogram on a modern car. Most modern cars (year 2000+) have such sophisticately designed air intakes that you can tune the car to far more power before another air filter/air intake is needed. Step 2: If your car is a turbo car, get a 3 inch downpipe, that will get you far. Then full exhaust system when the 3 inch DP doesn't get you further. For power gains: DP, Racecat, catback, in that order. Step 3: Reprogram the ECU Step 4: Get a car with a more power, or a saab. Cause unless you drive a saab, or anything with a decent size engine and decent turbo, you won't get any gains worth mentioning from those mods.
Your points are not that good. If you get an CAI and an exhaust, you WILL feel a difference. Those big clunky boxes are not THAT well tuned on most cars, especially not American. Just like if you add headers, it will breathe even better. It's not about HP numbers, but airflow. At least get an improved (non-paper) drop in filter. Help your engine breath and you will notice more responsiveness and better actions throughout your RPM range. Plus a drop in lasts a lifetime and standard paper filters need to be changed every year. Yes, an ECU tune will help. But only a REAL tune, like a Diablosport with an interface. Not some generic "chip" that you plug in and just trust. Also, your "Step 4" is a cute joke, but please... A SAAB is no major sports sedan. And actually, MANY, many cars would benefit from those mods.. Especially v6's and under. Most cars from 2011 are now outclassed, besides a few stand outs or something like an M-series or Porsche. Everybody, ignore those people who preach that a CAI and exhaust won't help. I did that to my last car and it was like a new vehicle. Certain companies put restrictive air boxes and limp exhausts on purpose. To save money or maybe so the base model isn't as desirable. It's not just about HP gains. That's one number. Help your engine breathe and you WILL be rewarded.
Just make sure to buy a good CAI with a heat shield, the best heat shield you can get. That may be why some don't work well. It has to block the engine's warm air.
Yes, but this list is specifically to make the car faster. Those are still good additions, especially if you want to improve handling or other aspects!
Auto Autopsy it's not just handling it can improve, certain tires can make your car quicker or even a higher top speed. certain suspension set ups can help keep the wheels from spinning up during hard acceleration. brakes, well, do minimal to make your car quicker. I'm not saying these should've been in the list, but its just some more in expensive modifications for better car performance.
I have been in the business of making engines work at a level that they were not designed to be used for in the planning process but I am often asked my opinion on the first place to start with regards to the an ongoing process of modifications to a certain car and over the years it has changed dramatically in the reply especially since the ecu development has gone through already its 4th generation of functional features and adjustable parameters. The reply I give now is generic and works for all engines and models. Lighten the car to the point where it is still practical for the use in which you need it but it is the cheapest way to get a performance improvement from what is essentially free power. This is what our 612bhp integrale has been through for the 3rd time and it is 0.4s quicker down the strip, composite panels are used as everything is already as light as possible so this was not a cheap option by any means but the amount of chassis response is very important for the hillclimbing series that it's used in
Cristian Chavira Yes getting your car tuned is one of the best things you can do to it, but I'd say do a intake and at least a manifold back exhaust before the tune so you wouldn't need another one for a while. Also I recommend you find someone with the Uprev tune. 🤙🏻
Jordan Little lie lol what a dam sheep fool. I bet my car looks better then you're it a 1997 box Jeep Cherokee all red lifted with skyline head liner with front guard and neon light all just 7k lol. get a new car of you want older cars are built to last not be good for 4 to 6 years lol to less😂
Auto Autopsy haha, oh yah they're far and wide but they are out there, and I would be buying them if I wasn't spending all my time and money just to get the turds to run
One thing to keep in mind with superchargers is that they give you immediate torque where as with turbos you have to wait for them to spool, that's why such things as twincharging exist which involve both turbos and superchargers or if your not into twincharging go for a Bi-turbo setup....
I know right. Same with those idiots in the Formula 1, think it makes it go faster, but it just adds weight. Or it could be because they want more downforce, which would make sense if you had a fast car...
Adds downforce which keeps the vehicle hugging the ground on takeoff and rounding corners which in turn does give you speed since you don't have to break as often and you aren't burning tread every time you takeoff
hey man what spark plugs did you put in after you got your tune? My technician told me I had to get copper NGK's but i cant remember what model exactly
Yeah, they're NGK BCP----I'm sorry but I can't find the exact model number! Check the tune video where I changed them out, I believe I included it in that
Contrary to popular belief, factory cats on a naturally aspirated engine are the most ideal cat for the car. Your engine is mechanically designed to utilize the back pressure which the exhaust gives. Unless your internal engine parts have been improved or you've gone with a turbo, CATS ARE GOOD!Unless your car has secondary cats which do not have sensors behind them, they can go. I have a Mercedes with secondary cats for extra clean emissions and I did feel gains in torque after removing them. But i still have the main sets of cats as well as factory muffler and resonator. Every vehicle that I have removed or modified the cats have been significantly down on power, even decent sized exhaust leaks before the cats dramatically impact your torque/power curve for the worst. So make sure you keep your main set of cats, secondaries are the exception. Air intakes can improve hp/tq up to 25 numbers, but if your intake is in your engine bay, and not near an opening in the front end, it will not get any "cold" air. The only benefit is the flow of air and volume of air.
It is fully legal in Kentucky, and in an older truck like my own, the cats don't affect the engine much. I've deleted most of the emissions control units in my truck and it's freed up probably 10-15 hp just from deletes
O sorry but because actually does help add horsepower to your vehicle. Less restrictive more outflow equals speed. Can't have too big of pipescavenging reasons but if you do it correctly you absolutely can add horsepower to it I just straight fight mine last week and I'll be damned if I didn't gain more hp
Auto Autopsy it's when your car takes large amounts of water in through the intake and when it gets in the cylinder it blows out the side of the block because the engine can't compress it
Camshafts!! Cams, cold air induction (which wouldn't touch 5bhp on it's own) Catback exhaust system, 4-2-1 or 4-1 manifold( Americans call them headers for some reason) And a remap again Americans call it something totally different) Depending on how aggressive the camshafts are you choose, you'd get 10-20bhp but alot more torque on a N/A engine.
Auto Autopsy nothing is cheap when modifying a car, cams are the best N/A engine mod you could do, and at less than half the price of a turbo kit plus installation I wouldn't call them pricey.
I had a work vehicle. I kept track of expenses. Reducing weight increased acceleration, handling and gallons of gas consumed, noticibly. Dont forget quality gas or higher octane. I try to use quality gas all the time. Great video.
Ok here is my sneaky list because dudes are gonna tell you the same shit, but I've done alot of research and this what I discovered, it applies to none sports cars too. 1. Light weight wheels 2. Lightweight flywheel (if manual) 4. Custom tune (or available tune) 3. Small shot of nitrous (do it right, don't go crazy and you won't blow shit up) ....number 4 is probably the most missed and underated.... 4. Transmission modifications (Final drive swap, or upgraded valve body etc, anything you can find to upgrade the transmission). Now do the math add these up and I guarantee you'll shock people. Think about a corolla with lighter wheels, I light weight flywheel, a 55shot with a custom tune combined with a higher final drive ratio. I bet that 1/4 goes from 16.8 to 14.9 you'll need better tires at this point then you'll be even a bit more faster. If you're like me you have to be smarter than everyone else, while they blow money on expensive turbos and exhaust and cold air intakes. Don't just blindly follow what everyone else is doing, go to the forums and look up modifications for your car. Almost every car made has a Sporty version of it they share better parts with for performance. Like a camry and lexus share parts, a buick and chevy share parts, nissan and infinite share parts, all your looking for is parts from a car your car shares with that was more performance based. BAM! Going fast isn't just about power its more about efficiency.
I own a 2013 gen 3 model 4 prius modded just for fun. I enjoy driving but as a student a prius save me ton of gas money for the mod. I am planning to lift it for off reading it or lowering it for the street look. I know a prius is slow and many prius owner aren't car person. That is why I am doing something other don't do.
Yes. Join the Saab Club or Arizona and ask for Richard, the guy that does free tunes. If you have a V6 Aero, he can't tune yours. I'm pretty sure he can do almost any GM Saab
Depends on your commute...if you do hit traffic around rush hour, then no. But traffic for the most part really isn't that bad, especially if you know shortcuts and your way around town. Manuals are much more fun to drive too!
Cat back exhaust does nothing for performance with these cars. The company's will tell you 10hp gain... what has to be done is 3" down from the turbo to open up the top end. Then a high flow cat to the cat back exhaust of your choice in size. Headers or runners are not needed until 450-500 hp...
All of the mod's you suggested make sense, if you increase the exhaust flow it meeds to be complemented by intake flow. The one forced intake Hmmmm. you left out 2 other that should go with that. Tires and brakes. If you have that much increase in power. 1 you need to get onto the ground if not ( smoke and new tires ) 2 better brakes ( wow I go fast, shit I can't stop ) There are very few mod's where to make full use of one needs a complement. As far as the cold air intake, you get more satisfaction from the sound than the power.
What happened? Did you miss an exit? I literally laughed out loud when you did that sound at 4:12 and then there was a cut in the video and it continues normally. 😂😂😂
Hi, loving your videos so far, i am too considering a saab but i'm still doing my research about it. Everything that is quirky about it makes me love it more, to me the saab has got a soul, it has character, not just some boring corolla. A suggestion is to have your videos with lists to have video timelines in the description and big letters detailing the number in the video. the reason i say this is that so that people can skip parts that don't apply to them. If I do end up with one, I wonder if we can do a Saab meet =)
None of these are cheap mods... Cat backs can run up to a grand, tuning costs a shit ton if done in a reputable shop, the intake is cheapish i guess..but can still be 2-300 bucks and headers cost even more than the catback
You say you live in Arizona, how in the hell is it a "cold air" intake, if its 115 degrees outside!! How's that possible to have cold-air for your engine?? And as for headers, long tube headers are for torque, short headers are good for horsepower "high-end RPM"!! And for turbocharged, that's more for torque versus a blower, (supercharged) is for high-end power!!!!!!!!! Why do you think people with a tin-can Japan car ("Honda") Turbo Charge It??, because it lacks torque, plenty of it!!!!!!!!!! One more last thing, anybody that is a car person (Car Guy), mechanic, Motorhead etc. or actually knows about cars would agree with this statement; "HORSEPOWER IS FOR SHOW TORQUE IS FOR GO"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i used a drill bit buffer adapter that lets you change diffrent buff wheels i swapped it for low grit sand paper bored out both ends of the throttle body and plentium then wet and dryed it smooth and shiney. then carefuly wet and dryed my fuel rail and after painting them all in ceramic high temp paint it incresed airflow and kept air temps down so when i advanced my dizzy it could handle high revs with a smooth band of torque to match
I'm 17 and I live in england. I own a 1.5 with turbo Nissan juke. (Nissan joke) I wanted to make this into a sleeper (looks slow but is quick) How would I do this but with keeping the insurance costs down?
I don't think modifying the car affects insurance. I know that engine doesn't have much potential since it's so small, but a tune and intake/exhaust would be great to get some bonus power! :)
Tuning the car makes huge differences for NA cars. If you've ever raced a tuned Honda Integra vs a non tuned, it's like a world of differences. It starts beating Nissan Silvias with ease.
If you add forced induction to a naturally aspirated motor you need to run forged internals too which can cost upwards of 1500 on top of the turbo or supercharger. Unless you don't mind snapped rods and cracked Pistons
Auto Autopsy doesn't require it. But putting a large amount of boost on stock Pistons, rods and a stock crank puts those stock parts at high risk of breaking later down the road.
I knew he was in Arizona because of the palo verde trees lining the freeways 😂 also at 4:11 that is me every single day because Arizona driver are the worst drivers in the world
I've heard that on newer vehicles that a lot of these suggestions are a waste of money. I had a '14 Mustang GT and that CAIs are mainly marketing scams since the intake system is already optimized. Same with the throttle body, you really gotta do your research because bigger diameter doesn't always mean more power. Also the same for exhaust. Some people claim that, for example, axle backs add no power. Others say you get a very small but noticeable gain.
The way I think you can really get power from an exhaust is adding a high flow cat and basically doing what you can to make the system less restrictive
I have a N/A 04 mustang GT with a cold air intake, long tubes, prochamber exhaust with cat delete. It's about 300hp but if I was to to put my old tune back in I'd get an extra 50-60hp and it's a cheap tune or I'd get more. So I'd say it's not a waist and defenenlty worth it. With the tune I've out ran a 2014 challenger RT, 2012 charger RT and without the tune I've still gapped countless sn95 and new edge mustangs, as well as a bunch of JDM cars.
Removing carpet, for the painted floor idea, ..using the metal and or racing seats for the weight saving, maybe selling the originals to a scrap yard, if guaranteed enough of a return, possibly covering all to most of the expense for that, ..maybe, for sure, trying the acetone idea, ..
Stripping even just 100lb out of a car like a Mini Cooper or MR2 that weight 2000 pounds is going to be much more effective compared to pulling it out of a big 4500lb truck that's all torque. The money side of things can be huge though; keep in mind that carbon fiber exists. Some people will spend thousands just to replace their metal doors for partially carboned ones. Fiberglass weighs more than carbon fiber as well.
Most of these don't directly increase power, they improve acceleration making the car feel faster. When its just me responsive. Doing these to a civic without a turbo won't let you gap any car ever

i laughed loud as shi reading this 🤣
Or paint your car red. Red cars are faster
One great "mod" to consider that everyone seems to overlook is a good set of tires. Adding power does nothing if it can't get to the ground.
Good point, but good performance tires can be EXPENSIVE!
cheaper than force feeding an N/A car
You're right. And with that, don't get rims that are too heavy! Also read tests about which tire size tests the best. It's not often 20". If you have 22s, don't even worry about "performance tires". How’s about cam and heads?
Nitrous kit
Lower the weight
I wanna see the dyno showing the 55hp difference after spark plugs.
You misunderstood. The tune added 55hp. All I needed for the tune was colder spark plugs
Matt W. YEAH!
I want to see the vedeo on a naturaly aspirated vehicle not making a little more power after getting a dyno tune 🙄
Christian Angel ...Little more vs. Lot more
Matt W. He meant a tune. He needed the spark plugs to make the tune work
I live in California and I can hear ricers in their civic across town its ridiculous I cant beat my meat in peace
that's rough :(

Sameeee bruhhh
I have an accord and if I put a muffler/ exhaust on I’m afraid it’ll sound ricey/fart can so I’d rather leave it stock
Not illegal to remove catalytic converter in Alabama. Because no emissions and inspections. Straight piped cars get "noise violation" tickets though.
Haha, getting a ticket for being too ricey
It is illegal federal,a $10,000.00 fine if a shop is caught doing this
Shop. Not private party :D. And even when I had a shop I didn't gut them. I cleaned them.
again...your information is not correct.
Greg Pruett I live in Alabama too.
I let air out my tires to go faster, also put less oil in the engine, less coolant and run it on less than a quarter tank of fuel. Remove front wipers and washer fluid reservoir. All of this leads to less weight within the car and engine therefore it will go faster.

LOL!!
Also turn off a/c it uses too much power
Underrated comment
What about draining the blinker fluid?
Lmao
Great info! I have a custom exhaust for my car and thinks it's a cheaper route for sure
This guy is smart and actually explains it perfectly I learned a lot, keep it up 👍
thank you Cameron!
talks about cold air intake shows picture of short ram intake.
Yep lol. Was an accident
Haha short rams are pretty op. Can wait to get mine installed 😇
Aug Alfonso haha your funny
Short ram intakes are retarded, not worth the 100-200$
MachineGunIt a short ram intake doesn’t actually take in cold air because it’s so close to the engines heat, real cold air intakes are much further from the motor which actually takes in cold air

Especially the pigs eh?
Beside the only fact.... it cost a lot of gass😂😂
Genius but how about if you wanna pass someone that is driving faster than you?
get some fuggin fireball stickers, ram air hood vents, and of coarse headlight fluid.
And a wing for +50 horsepower...
It’s called blinker fluid
The hood scoop will do a tad but the rest, well some are gonna have a hard time looking for the right stickers and headlight fluid when they aren't mechanically inclined. But wonder why when they put it on the Dyno, hasn't really helped LMAO

Yeah i got my tC straight piped and probably put a turbo but i prefer to save money for my dream car that would be here in america in about 3 to 4 years. I all save money for the other car turbo and tuning that would be needed
lol not anymore
Another great mod is called a blinker for most people when driving it can definitely make a lot more horsepower when convenient
😂
"tuning a naturally aspirated car is worthless"
I dunno man, picked up ~60hp after tuning my bolted Eclipse over stock. Wouldn't say that was worthless
Well if you had boltons, lol.
I am bamboozled by this comment
What are all the mods you did to your Eclipse? Im really curious
A 4g?
I know this comment was a while ago, but i was wondering what mods youve done to it
"Cold Air Intakes" vs "Short Ram Intakes" both tend to do the same thing.
Auto Autopsy where did you get your car tune
Jake Gackle mate you should do a video as you have explained everything in proper detail and real information 😊
install LED lights before you throw wifie out, you will need it for weight reduction to handle the road on the get away :-)
"I hope you enjoyed this day and have a good video" hahahah i got that one 😂
Good listener ;)
"i hope yall enjoyed this day, have a great video"
;)
Hahahaha imagine switching em around like he said lol
THE most important is keep your tires inflated to specs. PS some of your suggestions (especially throttle body) will really screw up your electronics (especially if you have drive-by wire instead of cable) and getting a tuned compensation engine chip(s) for the beefed-up throttle is really expensive if the installer/or you only have a passing acquaintance with the programming aspect of it or how one change in the whole effects other systems.
Yeah, some of these mods will require other work besides the physical upgrade
Basically it all boils down to more air in at a faster rate + more exhaust at a faster rate = more power!!!
These are some of the best mods you can do, you are essentially freeing up lost power with not much additional strain on the motor.
I haven’t done much with my 9-3 yet but it did come from the factory with a tune for more boost, I like that.
Before exhaust I plan suspension upgrades
Very true! And if you're looking for suspension, I suggest either Koni or Maptun for your Saab
Intake
A tune
Upgraded fuel injectors
Exhaust system
Wheels- yes good wheels can make ur car drive faster and can gain a better mpg
Upgraded spark plugs
Exhaust headers
good mods for sure
Exhaust headers are apart of exhaust system no?😂😂
Wheels give you grip not more power…
As another person mentioned, you will need a decent set of tires and I include brakes and I'd include better, vented rotors. Especially if your putting out alot of HP. You have to be able to control your vehicle
great point
Most of these done to an economy car will do almost nothing for hp but instead will improve fuel economy.
Nothing is cheap and easy with a Subaru
Or a Saab. I feel ya
Riley Boyett working on a lancer nothings cheap.!
True!
Volkswagen. German engineering...
Or a pre-runner
Step 1: Don't make yourself a "cold air intake", cause it won't give you any power gains without a reprogram on a modern car. Most modern cars (year 2000+) have such sophisticately designed air intakes that you can tune the car to far more power before another air filter/air intake is needed.
Step 2: If your car is a turbo car, get a 3 inch downpipe, that will get you far. Then full exhaust system when the 3 inch DP doesn't get you further. For power gains: DP, Racecat, catback, in that order.
Step 3: Reprogram the ECU
Step 4: Get a car with a more power, or a saab. Cause unless you drive a saab, or anything with a decent size engine and decent turbo, you won't get any gains worth mentioning from those mods.
Richard Olsen you make great points! Thanks for the input!
Richard Olsen fox..drop in filters do next to nothing
Richard Olsen I have a 97 corolla would it make a difference?
9: tires and wheels
10: brakes
11: suspension
Yes, but this list is specifically to make the car faster. Those are still good additions, especially if you want to improve handling or other aspects!
Auto Autopsy it's not just handling it can improve, certain tires can make your car quicker or even a higher top speed. certain suspension set ups can help keep the wheels from spinning up during hard acceleration. brakes, well, do minimal to make your car quicker. I'm not saying these should've been in the list, but its just some more in expensive modifications for better car performance.
Yep, for sure
Was it just me of did he say " I hope you all enjoyed this day, have a great video."? hahaha
Lmao yep, was seeing if people would catch it ;)
I guess it took them 6 m/o hah
I have been in the business of making engines work at a level that they were not designed to be used for in the planning process but I am often asked my opinion on the first place to start with regards to the an ongoing process of modifications to a certain car and over the years it has changed dramatically in the reply especially since the ecu development has gone through already its 4th generation of functional features and adjustable parameters. The reply I give now is generic and works for all engines and models. Lighten the car to the point where it is still practical for the use in which you need it but it is the cheapest way to get a performance improvement from what is essentially free power. This is what our 612bhp integrale has been through for the 3rd time and it is 0.4s quicker down the strip, composite panels are used as everything is already as light as possible so this was not a cheap option by any means but the amount of chassis response is very important for the hillclimbing series that it's used in
Interesting. Thanks for your input
I laughed once at the word swap at the end. I laughed twice for the last second mention of it
lol
Paint it all red!! It makes it go faster!!!
lol
A tune will actually help alot especially if you have fbo. Like for my 350z one with a tune is alot faster than one with out one.
Awesome!
Zack Acree would it work on my g35?
Cristian Chavira Yes getting your car tuned is one of the best things you can do to it, but I'd say do a intake and at least a manifold back exhaust before the tune so you wouldn't need another one for a while. Also I recommend you find someone with the Uprev tune. 🤙🏻
Zack Acree work on my 370?
Aurax Parold Yep, any car with a vq engine does good with a tune. Tbh any car works better with a tune not just a turbo car.
Best car upgrade can also be a new car
True, but depends on what you're selling and buying
cheater
Jordan Little lie lol what a dam sheep fool. I bet my car looks better then you're it a 1997 box Jeep Cherokee all red lifted with skyline head liner with front guard and neon light all just 7k lol.
get a new car of you want older cars are built to last not be good for 4 to 6 years lol to less😂
Or hellcat swap
Built not bought...
I was gonna comment about weight reduction. Glad I waited till the end lol.
Connor haha yeah! Completely free, so I figured I'd include it!
What about weight redution
Haha, what, you callin' me fat? lol
, Mate you are like a toothpick
Lol
Bimmer5Seriez. Most underrated comment! Should have 1st and last on the list.
x that dosent increases horsepower??
Are you saying my bone stock 30 year old Saab can somehow get faster? Wow. Haha, good video, keep it up!
SaabSquad hahaha...it's already hard to find performance parts for my car, I can't imagine how difficult it'd be for you
Auto Autopsy haha, oh yah they're far and wide but they are out there, and I would be buying them if I wasn't spending all my time and money just to get the turds to run
SaabSquad haha it's worth it though when they do run
Auto Autopsy 3 months of work for the best half hour of my life!
SaabSquad upload some videos of the car, I'd love to see it
You can also get new fuel injectors to make sure your injectors are not as restrictive because old used ones can make your engine not as responsive
Good one!
9. Polishing with Turtle Wax. 10. Adding go fast stripes.
11. Big wing
One thing to keep in mind with superchargers is that they give you immediate torque where as with turbos you have to wait for them to spool, that's why such things as twincharging exist which involve both turbos and superchargers or if your not into twincharging go for a Bi-turbo setup....
Very true!
Superchargers parasitic load really kills the power curve on the top end though. Thats why in my opinion variable compound turbo setups work the best.
Wow man great video dude. Love seeing content from this channel.
Thanks pepe
Going to do all these mods to my UK 2006 Mitsubishi lancer sport, nice one
:)
how did it go
great video man if i keep my car what fo u suggest
I'd save up for the ST/RS if I were you, but if you want to upgrade your current Focus I would do a catback exhaust

Did that on purpose ;)
Haha my vehicle drove by you at 1:02 👌
😂😂

Literally Nobody:
Ricer: adds huge spoiler to car and thinks his car is faster
lol
Front wheel drive car aswell🤣🤣🤣🤣
I know right. Same with those idiots in the Formula 1, think it makes it go faster, but it just adds weight.
Or it could be because they want more downforce, which would make sense if you had a fast car...
Adds downforce which keeps the vehicle hugging the ground on takeoff and rounding corners which in turn does give you speed since you don't have to break as often and you aren't burning tread every time you takeoff
the throw out the tire comment is killing me 😂
hey man what spark plugs did you put in after you got your tune?
I got a tune on mine, and then my downpipe shortly after. The downpipe with high flow cat alone made a HUGE difference
Remove the back seats and that will increase your speed too! Lol
= weight savings
It is fully legal in Kentucky, and in an older truck like my own, the cats don't affect the engine much. I've deleted most of the emissions control units in my truck and it's freed up probably 10-15 hp just from deletes
wow nice!
Let's not forget to change the flux capacitor!
Of course!
1. Put an exhaust (loud means faster)
2. Stickers(+5 horsepower
Precisely
O sorry but because actually does help add horsepower to your vehicle. Less restrictive more outflow equals speed. Can't have too big of pipescavenging reasons but if you do it correctly you absolutely can add horsepower to it I just straight fight mine last week and I'll be damned if I didn't gain more hp
Not much hp gain forr the cost and i thought this was about making car faster not more hp
The "cold air intake" doesn't do much maybe 1-2hp and you run the risk of hydrolocking your engine. The short ram air actually looses power.
Interesting, I hadn't heard of hydrolocking before..
Andrei Mata how the hell are you gonna hydrolock an engine with a CAI
Auto Autopsy it's when your car takes large amounts of water in through the intake and when it gets in the cylinder it blows out the side of the block because the engine can't compress it
Andrei Mata when buying a CAI kit .. buy a hydro shield ..it'll keep the water out as long as you don't run into deep puddles
If you drive your car under water I have never heard of anyone “hydrolocking” their cars with a CAI
Camshafts!!
Cams, cold air induction (which wouldn't touch 5bhp on it's own)
Catback exhaust system, 4-2-1 or 4-1 manifold( Americans call them headers for some reason)
And a remap again Americans call it something totally different)
Depending on how aggressive the camshafts are you choose, you'd get 10-20bhp but alot more torque on a N/A engine.
Thanks for sharing, but cams are pretty pricey
Auto Autopsy nothing is cheap when modifying a car, cams are the best N/A engine mod you could do, and at less than half the price of a turbo kit plus installation I wouldn't call them pricey.
what brand of spark plugs gave u 55hp and 67ft lbs of tourqe? ??
They're NGK. The power came from the tune not the plugs themselves
He must have gotten them from fucking Vin Diesel
I had a work vehicle. I kept track of expenses. Reducing weight increased acceleration, handling and gallons of gas consumed, noticibly. Dont forget quality gas or higher octane. I try to use quality gas all the time. Great video.
Good addition! Thank you :)
I need to know where you bought the spark plugs that gave you 55 HP. I want some on my turbo diesel engine.
I said in the video that it was the tune that gave me 55hp, not the plugs. Plugs were just something i needed to make the tune work
Light weight flywheels help a lot with acceleration too no power added but you will notice a change in how quick your car is
True!
Just finished this video. I love the ending ha ha Ha
One of the most helpful videos out there. I have a 2020 Honda Fit and I wanna do some things to it, don't know where to start.
😁👍🏼
Nice to see a TH-camr getting back to people in the comments. Awesome video. Keep it up :)
Thanks :) I always respond to everyone!
Ok here is my sneaky list because dudes are gonna tell you the same shit, but I've done alot of research and this what I discovered, it applies to none sports cars too.
1. Light weight wheels
2. Lightweight flywheel (if manual)
4. Custom tune (or available tune)
3. Small shot of nitrous (do it right, don't go crazy and you won't blow shit up)
....number 4 is probably the most missed and underated....
4. Transmission modifications
(Final drive swap, or upgraded valve body etc, anything you can find to upgrade the transmission).
You said cold air 🤔 so the cars are faster in winter
Yes. Faster at night too
Temperature does affect performance, especially with turbo'd cars with stock intercoolers and whatnot. Dense/cold air = more air = more power ;)
I own a 2013 gen 3 model 4 prius modded just for fun. I enjoy driving but as a student a prius save me ton of gas money for the mod. I am planning to lift it for off reading it or lowering it for the street look. I know a prius is slow and many prius owner aren't car person. That is why I am doing something other don't do.
that's super cool! I respect the build! be different!
can you tell me who did your tune for your Saab? I was looking at jzw tuning.
Yes. Join the Saab Club or Arizona and ask for Richard, the guy that does free tunes. If you have a V6 Aero, he can't tune yours. I'm pretty sure he can do almost any GM Saab
Your introduction to the video is awesome
Thank you 😁
You,
living in Arizona, most likely knowing the Phoenix traffic, would you not recommend a manual transmission?
Depends on your commute...if you do hit traffic around rush hour, then no. But traffic for the most part really isn't that bad, especially if you know shortcuts and your way around town. Manuals are much more fun to drive too!
I have a clk320 and I have no idea what to do first but this video helped a lot thanks! I doubt you’ll see this comment tho :)
Glad it helped! :)
Cat back exhaust does nothing for performance with these cars. The company's will tell you 10hp gain... what has to be done is 3" down from the turbo to open up the top end. Then a high flow cat to the cat back exhaust of your choice in size. Headers or runners are not needed until 450-500 hp...
Thanks!
Another good one is the quantum-aero-catalyst-mcbender which is basically exactly what it sounds like
oh ye
55 HP and 60 tq from spark plugs what plugs are you using my mechanic says my plugs glow
It was from the tune
Brandon Wo9odward said you have to 7Abby
That is funny right there 😂😂. My spark plugs glow. That’s great 😁
All of the mod's you suggested make sense, if you increase the exhaust flow it meeds to be complemented by intake flow. The one forced intake Hmmmm. you left out 2 other that should go with that. Tires and brakes. If you have that much increase in power. 1 you need to get onto the ground if not ( smoke and new tires ) 2 better brakes ( wow I go fast, shit I can't stop )
There are very few mod's where to make full use of one needs a complement. As far as the cold air intake, you get more satisfaction from the sound than the power.
Yeah, I didn't mention tires and brakes, which I probably should have (although they aren't really "cheap"). You gotta be able to put the power down
What happened? Did you miss an exit?
I literally laughed out loud when you did that sound at 4:12 and then there was a cut in the video and it continues normally. 😂😂😂
Lol!
I did attend a Saab meet a few weeks back, and there's a video on my channel about it if you're interested!
None of these are cheap mods... Cat backs can run up to a grand, tuning costs a shit ton if done in a reputable shop, the intake is cheapish i guess..but can still be 2-300 bucks and headers cost even more than the catback
I don't know where you're buying a cat back system from, but you're getting ripped off lol
Or you are driving a car with a larger aftermarket or using ebay parts
I checked out weapon r headers and they werent that badly priced.
Liked and subbed. Not only cause this was very helpful, but bc u zoomed in on ur finger comically. Nice
lol thank you! appreciate it!

Hey y'all! Scott here!
hi scott
Yes, I would agree, and I'm pretty sure that's what I said in the video
goodguygto i agree
You can mount an office fan inside there one directly at it you'll just have to remember to plug it in
i used a drill bit buffer adapter that lets you change diffrent buff wheels i swapped it for low grit sand paper bored out both ends of the throttle body and plentium then wet and dryed it smooth and shiney. then carefuly wet and dryed my fuel rail and after painting them all in ceramic high temp paint it incresed airflow and kept air temps down so when i advanced my dizzy it could handle high revs with a smooth band of torque to match
nice, lol
I'm 17 and I live in england. I own a 1.5 with turbo Nissan juke. (Nissan joke) I wanted to make this into a sleeper (looks slow but is quick) How would I do this but with keeping the insurance costs down?
I don't think modifying the car affects insurance. I know that engine doesn't have much potential since it's so small, but a tune and intake/exhaust would be great to get some bonus power! :)
Will_Lammas burn it that'll keep the cost down
Callum Anthony Stuart Meadows thanks 😄
Auto Autopsy cheers
Callum Anthony Stuart Meadows hell nah if you burn it then The insurance company will raise your rates 😂
Tuning the car makes huge differences for NA cars. If you've ever raced a tuned Honda Integra vs a non tuned, it's like a world of differences. It starts beating Nissan Silvias with ease.
Thanks for sharing
Wrap your car red
Everyone knows red cars are faster and ads 300hp😸
lol
If you add forced induction to a naturally aspirated motor you need to run forged internals too which can cost upwards of 1500 on top of the turbo or supercharger. Unless you don't mind snapped rods and cracked Pistons
Not really...most forced induction kits don't require forged internals or any rebuilding of the engine
Auto Autopsy doesn't require it. But putting a large amount of boost on stock Pistons, rods and a stock crank puts those stock parts at high risk of breaking later down the road.
Very true. It really depends case to case :)
I knew he was in Arizona because of the palo verde trees lining the freeways 😂 also at 4:11 that is me every single day because Arizona driver are the worst drivers in the world
lmao
Actually 4:12
Yeah with mods, a tune on an NA is useful, I suppose I should've been more specific, sorry!
Good idea
:)
Removing carpet, for the painted floor idea, ..using the metal and or racing seats for the weight saving, maybe selling the originals to a scrap yard, if guaranteed enough of a return, possibly covering all to most of the expense for that, ..maybe, for sure, trying the acetone idea, ..
Good ideas once again!
With a turbo chip, a turbo that is large enough for the neutral factor, for the vacuum. If the engine doesn't have to try, it's extra..
Hell yeah I can’t wait to move to Arizona
Woohoo!

Lol, so you're saying getting a performance exhaust doesn't increase power at all? The dyno on my car before/after shows otherwise
