    Welcome to the Geoff Castellucci rabbithole! Geoff is a member of the a cappella band, VoicePlay, where sings bass (of course!) and also does about half of the arrangements for the group. He's a remarkably talented artist, and such a delight to listen to. I hope you'll look into more of his work, as well as VoicePlay- every member of that group is a vocal monster like Geoff.

    Yes Geoff is singing all the parts. he does it a lot in his videos. Country Roads, Over The Misty Mountains Cold. 16 tons, Bare Necessities, and others. He is probably unique, and a phenomenon. And he affects most women that way, of all ages. And impresses a lot of men.

    Geoff (pronounced Jeff) has a 5+ octave range.... he is also part of the group VoicePlay but he has wonderful videos in both group and solo.. there are a bunch of Halloween themed videos on VoicePlay and another of his solo's Headless Horseman . He is one of the few singers i have heard that can do harmonies with himself and sound FULL instead of flat like most others

    He has about 9 covers like this now. Please, do yourself a favor, and watch them in order. You will see him improve his voice over the year and a half he has been doing this. And yes, the chills, speechlessness and lightheaded feelings are something that you will experience many more times. Look forward to seeing you more.
    Thank you.

    "Sixteen Tons", "House of the Rising Sun", "Over the Misty Mountains Cold", not to mention all that he has done with VoicePlay.

    Welcome to the 5 octaves of Geoff Castellucci. Glad to see new people discovering his amazingness!

    What I love most about Geoff's lower range isn't the absolute depth, but the beautiful resonance. I don't think anyone today can match him for sheer beauty of tone.

    • @johndeeregreen4592
      @johndeeregreen4592 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Exactly. Many bass singers can sing this low (my lowest chest note is the same as Geoff's; I just don't possess his resonance!). He rattles the soul!

    • @embran8486
      @embran8486 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Avi Kaplan has his moments, but Geoff constantly a rich tone. Plus Geoff's mastered skipping two octaves and doing it so fluently. This is something other A capella bass don't do often. Only Tomi P. also does it frequently.

    • @johndeeregreen4592
      @johndeeregreen4592 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@embran8486, this is what makes Geoff different. I can tell you as a bass singer with a 4 octave range, it's easy to sing in those different octaves... it's very difficult to master larynx placement to jump from bass to the tenor register, though. With bass notes, your larynx is sitting low and takes a lot of focus to maintain a note without warble or variations. When a bass jumps an octave or two, it's quite difficult to do so with precision. Geoff's ability to do it is not the norm. Even Avi normally goes from high to a fry note down low, since it's easier.

    • @embran8486
      @embran8486 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@johndeeregreen4592 Absolutely. Though I still add Tomi P. into the mix in being equally smooth transition wise and yes resonance. Bigger range too by the way. Still Geoff adds subtleties within his voice i only hear with him. With Tomi it sounds a bit "forced" I guess? At least less pleasant to listen too. Just technically top-tier.

    Geoff is an amazing and unique talent. With a 4+ octave range between B0 and A4 and higher he continually blows people away. He has lots of amazing work on his channel for you to enjoy. His group Voiceplay is equally talented. You should definitely check them out as well. Loved the reaction!

    Try his cover of "16 Tons". I also suggest you listen to the group he sings with--VoicePlay. You might want to check out their latest two videos--"Raise the Colors" and "Halo". "Halo" is unlike anything I've ever heard before and I absolutely love it. Another artist that you might want to check out is Peter Hollens. He does a lot of harmonizing with himself or with just two people. He creates amazing harmonies.

    Glad enjoyed it.
    Geoff started the group with a couple others (some have left the group).
    The group's been around for several years (founded when in high school).
    The 'Sing Off' was an American competitive show similar to AGT, The Voice & American Idol.
    It's gimmick was a capella groups which included choirs. The judges were extremely knowledgeable & talented themselves. It also was done over a shorter period of time airing over the holidays. Unfortunately, it didn't last as long as the other groups. I truly believe if focused on groups under 6 rather than a wide number, it would have been more flexible & easier to market.
    Although it was on for a few years, only a couple years stand out. Pentatonix won 1 year and the following year Home Free won. That same year also had VoicePlay & Philharmonic too. Unknown if were aware of each other's groups, they all including Pentatonix spent time on the show along with the tour after the show. They've worked singing & arranging with various members of the different groups. It was during this time, Geoff & VoicePlay learned about social media & marketing (doing videos). The rest so to speak is history.
    The song 'Blackbird' written by Paul McCartney of the Beatles.
    The lyrics were inspired by hearing the call of a blackbird in Rishikesh, India, and alternatively by the unfortunate state of race relations in the United States in the 1960s.
    "I was in Scotland playing on my guitar, and I remembered this whole idea of "you were only waiting for this moment to arise" was about, you know, the black people's struggle in the southern states, and I was using the symbolism of a blackbird. It's not really about a blackbird whose wings are broken, you know, it's a bit more symbolic....explaining that "blackbird" should be interpreted as "black girl", in the context of the civil rights troubles in southern 1960s US."

    Try Hoist the Colours and the HALO Theme from VoicePlay, and for Geoff alone I'd suggest High and Dry and House of the Rising Sun. All of these are amazing!

    Geoff is one of a kind. The man has a 5 octave range. As others have mentioned he is the bass for the group VoicePlay. They are all incredibly talented so definitely check them out.
    As for Geoff himself my favorites are 16 Tons, and Take Me Home Country Roads. With it being October you should see his Halloween covers of The Headless Horseman and his newest Monster Mash.
    If you know the movie the Nightmare Before Christmas VoicePlay has done 4 covers from that Oogie Boogie Song, What is This, This is Halloween and Kidnap the Sandy Claws. They are all Fantastic.

    Thank you for reacting to this. As a solo song, this is my favourite. The pure skill and wanting to reinvent the classic.
