Geoff has the clearest, cleanest tone in all registers. You can understand every word, it's wonderful!!

Geoff told us "I know I'm going to get a lot of comments about how I should open my mouth when I sing. YEAH YEAH YEAH, I get it. But my wife and I filmed this in my living room at night when my son was asleep so I was literally whispering this whole song (hence the very closed mouth)". This was done during the lockdown.

This a Beatles cover. It was done back in the late 60s when I graduated. Paul McCartney when interviewed said that it was written to honor the American Civil Rights Movement. He doesn't do acapella solos - Acapella goes with VoicePlay, He does the piano and harmonica. He has an excellent electronic board so he can do drums, strings, etc. Geoff's range is 5+ octaves.

"why is he even part of an acapella group if he can do it himself?" is the best reaction to Geoff's range, and a fair question. His full range at this point is around 5 octaves (arguably more, there's a slide that goes about half an octave lower than his otherwise lowest note, but it's debated by the community whether that counts toward his range. For reference, the full range of a piano is about 7 octaves, and most singers tend to only have about 2-3.

Geoff is great and I've been listening to him for a long time and I love him. I like your reactions. but you have pulled Hadestown and I would really like to see your reaction to some video with Orpheus and/or Eurydice. I'm a big Reeve Carney fan. and I would also be glad of the reactions to his work as a musician. I could send you links if it's interesting.

Aint No Sunshine is another great one that shows range - it's also more recent and I think his increased skills really shine in it. If you want to hear the song that knocked it out of the park and riveted everyone's attention on him - that would be 16 Tons.

I guess his something like thirty years of singing has led to this. The constant practise makes perfect :)

I love Geoff as a one-man chorus! But there are some things the other members of VoicePlay can do that he just can't match. That's not meant to disparage him in any way; every singer has unique strengths, and Geoff has been blessed and worked hard to acquire more than most, but the way he blends with Layne, Eli, Cesar and their constellation of guests isn't something any of them could achieve on their own.
