Me too. Good plot/storyline with a very good heroine: Wonder Woman. Of course they had to go in a different direction with the 2nd film, too bad they didn't have a better written script and a different storyline for the 2nd movie.
It was just obvious that neither Jenkins nor Johns truly get how to write a WW story. The proof is how they modeled the first movie after the Captain America movie and simply plugged in ideas and concepts from the most recent DC comic storylines. Fortunately it worked that time.
The problem with WW1984 is that the message at the end of the movie is that "You have it better than you think you do" despite the only person who is shown to have a better life than they realize is Max Lord. Most importantly, Cheetah is shown to be neglected, ignored, and dismissed at the start of the movie until she gets her wish. Rather than appreciated, but in ways that aren't what she wants. The antagonists are arguably the most important ones to make it true for.
No it's not. It's the classic saying "be careful what you wish for". Every story about wish granting is about someone thinking they need a wish to improve their life when really it was in the whole time. Cheetah was ignored because SHE lacked confidence. All she needed was some confidence not a wish.

WW84 wasn't that bad of a film. Tbh, I've seen worse in my 56 years of life. Way worse. However, I must admit that it could've been better. Out of all the material that could've been used to make the film, they choose a magic wishing rock? Who's bright idea was that? Give those people a raise and a bonus(note my sarcasm). No, the problem with WW84 is that nothing in the story hangs on the protagonist being Wonder Woman! It is a WishMaster franchise movie, with the DC characters pasted in. Yeah, it was based on a WW comic, I understand but, still, what's the connection to the character of the first movie? No, this is Back door to Hell but in DC. And a very good one at that!
I'll agree with everything in this review except the very ending. We haven't been in the "Snyder Timeline" since ZSJL. Everything after that movie + JOSStice League is NOT the same universe. It doesn't matter if it has the same actors, it's not the same. The Snyderverse (MoS, BvS, ZSJL) was put together with respect for the characters, the DC clusterfuck that is all other DC movies were just thrown together aimlessly.
This was about finding a way to get Chris Pine back in the movie. That and not wanting to have the "Avengers Problem" of wondering where everyone else was by setting it after Justice League. The first movie was so good and then this one was....awful.
I recently watched this film again and my feeling was that it isn't as bad as I originally thought. It isn't as good as the first one, don't get me wrong. But it isn't that bad. The way Barbara slowly becomes the Cheetah is well done. The scene in the "invisible" jet is a little cheesy but it's fun. Diana riding the lightning was cool. The comedy worked for the most part. The story idea was good overall. It was just executed poorly in places. The opening scene on Themiscyra is good. Even with it's flaws, it's better than Birds Of Prey, The Suicide Squad, or Blue Beetle.
That's harsh given she was a big factor in the success of the first film. Given how rushed the film was there was clearly studio pressure to get a sequel out quickly and she showed her talent when directing Charlize Theron's Oscar winning turn in 'Monster'.

The movie had a great message actually. People love to harp on the fact that Wonder Woman fell victim to the Wishing Stone and made immoral choices. DUH ! that is the point of the story! Everyone falls under the spell of the Wishing Stone's temptation to grant your greatest desire...and WonderWoman is eventually the one to break the spell and save the world. I enjoyed the use of Cheetah, her arch nemesis. The motivation of Cheetah is simple, but relatable. She is jealous of Wonder Woman.
Btw, the Dream Stone also completely fucked with the perception of those who used it. Diana might be a demigod, but she wasn't immune to the magic of it. Everyone complaining about her taking advantage of a civilian ignores the fact that she was mentally being completely fucked with and wasn't in her right mind.
Wonder Woman was such a blast! I've rewatched it multiple times. WW 84? Saw it once and haven't looked back. It was truly awful, which is such a shame.
WW84 fell into the same trap that so many superhero films have over the last decade or so that is a garbled story. This whole dream stone got really confusing and made no sense by the end. There was a lot pointless story too. There whole thing with Diana has a child was too long and no real bearing on the story. Sadly, it was a poor movie from top to bottom.
Before I even watch the video, I'll add my two cents about 1984 as well as the original film. First off, I found the original movie not that great and didn't understand why it was so well received. It wasn't the worst movie I ever saw, but far from any super hero movie I would consider great, it was watchable, that's the best I can say for it. But when put it along side other DC theatrical efforts of the time, I guess I can see why it was held so high, as most of those films were unwatchable(so a very low bar indeed). As for 1984, someone should be flogged, tared & feathered, and put on display in the middle of town for public ridicule. The time I lost watching that can never be reclaimed and watching paint dry would have been a better use of my time. By all accounts, it made the first film look like the Mona Lisa by comparison, WTF!? I'm an 80's kid, so it wouldn't have taken much for me to say cool, thanks for the nostalgia, and they didn't come close. One of the worst films I've ever seen, and if I hadn't watched it at home, I probably would have walked out on it(which I've never done before).
With Wonder Woman being the first DCU film to be a universal critical and commercial hit with no production issues, I do get why they wanted a sequel quickly but it certainly was rushed in scripting as it was originally due to come out December 2019. It's certainly a mess and a step down but as I went in with low expectations I did enjoy the ride [particularly Gadot-Pine's chemistry and Pascal's performance] for all it's flaws.
I liked this movie. It’s not as good as the first, but I am a sucker for the Diana/Steve relationship. The body snatch thing was stupid and unnecessary but I still love seeing the characters back together again. The wishing story gets a lot of hate, but to me it made the story feel uniquely Wonder Woman. I couldn’t really see any other DC heroes dealing with a scenario like this as well as she did. I wish Patty and James Wan could have finished their trilogies for WW & Aquaman. I would be down for David F. Sandberg to finish his Shazam trilogy if the Rock was willing to play ball now.
WW84 was a reference to the ideas and movies of the 80s. It didn't have the darker War Grit tone of the first. It was a criticism of American excess of its time and its characters are tropes of the era. The plot is a trope of 80s corporate greed and leaned into the 80s camp with really mixed results.
I really like your work, but Ryan George's pitch meeting did a much more effective takedown of some of the reasons other than the release date and covid.
I’m the only person in the world who likes this film. I love how openly ridiculous and over the top it is. I also love the look of the film and the fact it was shot on film(Including IMAX). I also love how Wonder Woman saved the day with a sappy speech instead of a cgi fight. I think this film is going to be a classic in the future.
I find the bit about the sexual harassment codes very strange in light of the plot involving hijacking a man against his will and from his life even if it is to hook up with such a stunning hero. It's still not Him.
It *is* completely immoral. That's kind of the point of why she loses her powers for making such a decision, and why she has to give up the wish. It's not a flaw in the movie, its the literal plot.
The opening concerns mentioned don't even approach the problem with possessing some guy with Steve Trevor's Spirit and the whole wish renouncing idea., which makes cynical assumptions. But :28 Gal is so freaking cute 😅
Wonder Woman the BEST superhero movie every. WW84 they made the heroine and villainess emotionally weak, unable to thrive, having no agency. They then gave Wonder Woman Bill Cosby behavior. So, this was awful.
Um yes. WW did bad things in the movie...as did EVERYONE ELSE because of the influence of the dream stone...that was literally the whole plot of the movie...people giving into evil temptations.
@Popeii1 um, yes, she is not as decent of a person....because she is under the influence of the evil wishing stone...which brings out people's selfishness. It's the plot of the movie ! There are superman stories where different types of Kryptonite, make him a jerk, and he had to overcome it. There is a well known Spiderman story where he gets the black suit and it makes him a jerk. So why is it people judge it so much harder when the same trope is applied to wonder-woman?
@veemon9280 Wonderwoman doesn't suck. This rapey, whiny, passive movie socks. I can see the Joker or lex luthor plotting to do what Wonderwoman actually does in this movie.
haha this is the worst superhero movie ever tied with morbius and birds of prey i still get second embarrassment thinking of when i watched it, so sad considering how much i enjoyed the first wonderwoman movie
It was quite the achievement how awful WW84 turned out. It cost 200 million to make???? they must have had lobster and cavier at the catering truck for every meal. if you told me the movie cost 40 million even that would have been a stretch because clearly none of it was spent on special effects, costumes and stunts.
I still love the first Wonder Woman movie.

Whether they want to resurrect loverboy originally or it was fan service decided later on, it is a horrible idea anyway.
12 minutes is a long time to say "yes."
Hahahahaha
I wanted so much to like it and it pretty much failed on every expectation - I’ve not gone back yet to revisit it
WW84 was a reference to the ideas and movies of the 80s.
Yes it is BAD as we remember.
I’m the only person in the world who likes this film. I love how openly ridiculous and over the top it is. I also love the look of the film and the fact it was shot on film(Including IMAX). I also love how Wonder Woman saved the day with a sappy speech instead of a cgi fight. I think this film is going to be a classic in the future.
wait i like it too 😭❤️ a club member!!
Video title is dumb coz it never goes into the bad aspects of the movie itself in any detail none whatsoever at all!
1984 was very disappointing imo. Original was so much better. Sooo good really.
"Life is good, but it could be better."
Yes it is. Such a waste of potential.
I love this movie for Gal Gadot ❤❤❤
I really enjoyed the first Wonder Woman film. Absolutely well done. Wonder Woman 1984? 100% hot garbage. I don't even know where to begin.
The opening concerns mentioned don't even approach the problem with possessing some guy with Steve Trevor's Spirit and the whole wish renouncing idea., which makes cynical assumptions.
But
:28 Gal is so freaking cute 😅
Contradictions in the consequences and motives of the wishes would be a story unto itself.
YES
Before even watching this, I enjoyed it work comparing it to the first flick and understanding the whys being it
i had it as the only thing left to watch a bit ago. it was a chore to get through to the end. Comics Max Lord is so much better than this adaptation.
But We Want Gal Gadot For Wonder Woman 3
Without a doubt the _worst_ DCEU movie. Legit.
Wonder Woman 1984 was bad, but it could be Fury of the Gods.
@@wstine79 I thought it was 2nd or 3rd worst TBH
It's WORSE!
Its worse then we remember.
Ah, the 1st Wonder Woman film was set during WWI not WW2.
Better
Even the first was nowhere NEARLY as good as the consensus would have you believe, the wind was a fkng garbage fire
@veemon9280 Look at the behavior, character, and strength of the first Wonderwoman. All the heroism, drive to do right, and decency are just gone
The premise of making a wish was just stupid.
One of Zimmer’s worst scores imo and I think losing Allen Heinberg is the key to this film’s creative failure.
The first Wonder Woman movie was set during World War ONE not World War TWO.
They tried to do too many things. I think more restraint would have helped. There was no focus in the over all story.
haha this is the worst superhero movie ever tied with morbius and birds of prey i still get second embarrassment thinking of when i watched it, so sad considering how much i enjoyed the first wonderwoman movie
oh and how the trailer got me hyped up made the experience much worse
It was never a bad movie people think they are movie critics but they are just following what everyone else says
It was quite the achievement how awful WW84 turned out. It cost 200 million to make???? they must have had lobster and cavier at the catering truck for every meal. if you told me the movie cost 40 million even that would have been a stretch because clearly none of it was spent on special effects, costumes and stunts.
I was glad to see Landmark Mall one last time before it was demolished but the movie was Eh......
... I bloody hate this movie. I loved the first one.
Imagine if there was no Gal Gadot. This movie could get negative rating lol
I liked this when I saw it in theaters, and still don't get all the hate it keeps getting.
A Movie Fled With Good Ideas Just Landed in A Bad Way .
