This happened in the original comics as well. It’s implied that he and Jack Kirby tried to go to the wedding and weren’t allowed in, which makes this already great cameo so much better
Despite the campy tone, it's still better than the 2015 version. Doug Jones (with Laurence Fishburne's voice) was great as a silver surfer. It was great that they had actual action sequences. I'm not a big fan of Cloud Galactus and the death of Captain Holt
Hey I saw this movie upon release in the theater and I very much enjoyed it, I thought it nailed down not just the main 4 but the Silver Surfer as well....a hero we have never seen in live-action before. I don't know why people crap on this movie because it may have some faults, yes but it was still entertaining and true to the Fantastic Four team. Plus Ben was played by a real actor on set to interact with other cast members and NOT some added-in later CGI effect.
With Disney behind it, there is a big chance it will fail. Also, don't forget that Disney don't allow CGI artists to do it properly, because it cost too much money.
Yes, it's far less awful than people say it is. People compare this movie to Batman And Robin, Steel, Elektra, Spawn, Catwoman, and Morbius. It is not that. It's not even the worst theatrical Fantastic Four movie. Fant4stic was far worse. I don't like it nearly as much as the first movie, which I think is actually kind of good, but I don't feel like cringing every two minutes like Morbius or staring in awe at the visual vomit on my screen like Spawn or Batman And Robin. It's not great. It's not even good, honestly. But it's mediocre, not dreadful. It's just a forgettable mediocre movie and there are far worse out there. It's not that bad. It's really not
The worst part I think is the shoe horning of Doom, the way they did it felt like meeting a quota. But so many other things are perfect for the characters, way better female writing than the new MCU as well it's great
I liked the portrayal of the surfer but I had issue with Galactus also ongoing issue with Dr Doom from the first film. I like Julian McMahon and he does a great job I more mean that he's not the same as character I knew from the comics and cartoons I knew. I liked him just I would have preferred him to be more like the comics.
I remember the 1998 Silver Surfer animated series as being surprisingly layered and mature, so I was more than a bit disappointed in his characterization and story in this movie.
This was my daughter's favorite movie at a time. Scooby Doo and FF:II would play all day long on her little dvd player/tv combo. She's about to head to college. wuuuuuuut.
My old doctor's office either had this movie or Iron Man 2 on in the waiting room for like two years. I once asked them if they only had the two DVDs. They told me they had a few others but they just usually play these two for some reason. But it wasn't usually. It was always. They did not play anything else. That was just a lie. Anyway, they said I could donate some if I wanted to and they would play them. I gave them some old ones I had lying around. Like I gave them Ocean's Eleven, Mean Girls, Spider-Man 3, and I think the Dune miniseries. They actually did play them and other patients thanked me when they found out. That didn't last forever tho, as about a year later the Lord Of The Rings movies were on a loop for MONTHS. I liked that doctor but his office was maddening
while I wasn't exactly happy with the angry space cloud version of Galactus I could understand that they were working within the limitations they had(budget/technology)
After several attempts to launch FF as a movie, I'd like to see it as a limited series, set during the Cold War (when the original comic was released). Season one would feature Mole Man, Namor, and other early villains, leading up to a Dr. Doom encounter. Season two would continue with Doom, and lead to Silver Surfer/Galactus. My only two casting choices wouldn't work anymore. Joel McHale could have worked as Reed about 10 years ago, but I don't think it would work now. Alan Rickman would have been perfect as the voice of Doom.
With comic book movies, I'm like 90% whether they get the characters right (fundamentals, not necessarily all the picky little details.) Get the characters right, and I'll forgive a lot of other flaws. So in this movie: Reed, Ben, Johnny: nailed it Sue: adequate Doom: not so much 3.5 out of 5 ain't bad in my book.
I don't understand the hate for this movie series. I enjoyed it. I'd have watched a sequel. Sure, it's very flawed. But, it could have been so much worse. The cast was great, and did very well with what they were given. Doctor Doom was written poorly but acted well. I would actually like to see this version of the "Fantastic Four" in the MCU. But, whatever. Who cares about my opinion? Other than me.
What I don't understand is after dealing with Doom and Galactus. Why didn't the team just let Johnny keep all their powers and let him become and main superhero? He's the only one who even wants to be a hero whereas the others just want to have normal lives again. Seems like it would be a win-win. But I guess they couldn't do that as it would break canon and there would be no longer a Fantastic Four since Johnny Storm would be the sole superhero.
No, it's not. NEITHER of the Fantastic Four movies after Spiderman were as awful as people say. They were campy fun, no different than the MCU. I'll never understand the hate
As a massive Silver Surfer fan I was and am greatly disappointed by this character introduction. Still waiting on a Silver Surfer origin story put to film.
I have always enjoyed these two movies. I am a huge FF fan since way way back and I thought it did a good job overall to portray them and that is all I needed to enjoy the movies.
Yes, this movie was not as bad as the critics said. The weak point was not the absence of Galactus which would have skyrocketed the budget, but Julian McMahon as Dr Doom. As Stan Lee himself said they have never gotten Dr Doom right. Perhaps that's why they still have not brought him into the Marvel Universe?
I really liked the visual execution of the Silver Surfer and having Fishburne voice him was a nice surprise. I just think he wasn’t used well enough. I also think the film could’ve done without Doom.
I went to see Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer at the cinema and I didn't think it was a bad movie and I thought it was great and I own it on DVD. Jessica Alba was gorgeous in the sequel. If I could cast anyone in the MCU as the Fantastic Four I'd cast Anna Hutchison as Susan Storm. Ty Tennant as Johnny Storm. Matt Smith as Reed Richard. Alexander Skarsgard as Ben Grimm and Jeremy Sisto as Victor Von Doom.
But I totally agree that the Surfer was perfectly cast, and that the movie overall is better than its predecessor. (although that's not saying much) =) ; )
This film was a blast. Brilliantly cast, well written and expertly directed, this film dwarfs almost all of the schlock that Marvel Studios has produced since “Endgame.” Fantastic Four Silver Surfer comes from an age when Hollywood understood and delivered entertainment
I loved these movies, definitely captured the vybe of the cartoons, they had a great team dynamic. I was even eager to see what the second movie would be for the reboot, despite the rocky start.
Great video, looking back I guess I never considered the weak plot points you mentioned. But I actually enjoyed this movie more than Spider-man 3 back in the day.
The Surfer's power does not come from his board. Galactus is not a fricking cloud. As a long time Surfer fan I was so excited when this came out! However, their treatment of the Surfer and Galactus was shameful. Why didn't they just recreate the comic story? It would have been soooo much better. This movie was a disgrace
You know what SPIDER-MAN 3, MORBIUS and this movie have in common? They all have a ridiculous cringe-inducing dance sequence, and they were all produced by AVI ARAD
While I enjoyed the two FF for what they were. Light and breezy and not dark like Fantastic 4stick, Doom has always been handled badly. Focus on a different villian in the new one and if they go woke by being Sue-centric, then the two Tim Story's FF films my continue to be the most faithful as insane as that may be.😮😮😮
My interpretation was that Norin saved Sue from the missile because she reminded him of Shalla Bal, but saved Earth after seeing her dying in Reeds arms, I feel like that’s what changed his mind.
What I hated the most about these movies was how it portrayed the titular characters as rockstars They wanted the audience to love these characters the same way the people in their world love them It looks forced
A really interesting point I've heard about the Fantastic Four onscreen is that Hollywood doesn't always know how to treat 'families' of characters. Like, the 'X-Men' are a family in a very Bohemian sense. Hollywood artists, I would say, tend to be more career-driven and ambitious. Especially in recent Hollywood there's almost a bitterness that comes through in movies like 'Barbie' about living in Los Angeles and I say that as an indie filmmaker who has actually lived there. It's a superficially cheerful but aggressive place to be. One of my own film mentors actually advised me against going due to what she said is backbiting, a refusal to let you know when you've made mistakes, etc. The people who demographically prioritize family tend to be to the right of or at least moderate compared to a lot of Hollywood artists (or should I say activists?).
@@chasehedges6775 I don't believe that at all. For instance, I think 'The Incredibles' could serve as a partial model for a Fantastic Four movie. A few others that could be useful are 'Us', 'Jurassic Park', and in general works that utilize the 'Four Temperament Ensemble' (to paraphrase TV Tropes).
@@chasehedges6775 I definitely wouldn't agree with that. 'The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe' could also be a good model for a 'Fantastic Four' film.
i'm so disappointed at how marvel on the big screen made Von Doom power so different to the original comic books, Dr. Doom is one of the strongest villain in the comics... since his power from Magics & Sciences combine. i hope MCU did it right
I liked this movie. its pretty standard for a FF adventure. I also understand the reason for Galactus being a cloud. Different era of moviemaking. What really was yuck for me tho was Dr. Doom. such good casting choices for all except for him. Horrible casting
The first movie was decent but Jessica albas performance was beyond terrible. I'm not sure if it was the actress or her characters dialogue written for her but it was sh**. The second movie had some decent ideas. The super skrull mechanics was ok. Sue Storm managed to become even worse. And Galactus as a big fart cloud was just that.....a lingering fart. But silver surfer was definitely the highlight of the film.
I'm sorry, but I always felt that Gruffudd and Alba's dynamic just never worked; their performances just came off to me like a creepy college professor who married one of his students, not like a REAL married couple. And that's one of the main reasons I like Krasinski; because his REAL LIFE WIFE, Emily Blunt, would be the IDEAL Invisible Woman! (IMHO, at least.) =)
next to reed richards, smartest guy in marvel, everyone will look dumber in comparison 😂 but imo as someone who recently rewatched these movies, sue acts more like the adult in their relationship than reed. reed chases his scientific curiosities, hits a wall he cant overcome and wallows in self pity, and sue is the one to tell him to take deep breaths and approach from another angle. i think it very much screams married couple but with their own dynamic
@@CassCat69 Maybe so. And I'm not going to fault her performance, but yeah; PHYSICALLY, he DEFINITELY appears older than her, and that's just too distracting. They'd be much better off with a REAL LIFE married couple, I think. =)
Id really love to see a Silver Surfer origin movie before crossing over with fantastic four. The 4 can have doom as villain #1 then they can make Silver Surfer origins where it shows how he became the surfer with a post credit scene of him finding earth for Gallactus and that sets you up for Fantastic Four #2 which at the end Silver Surfer turns and wants to save earth and stay on earth which gives you the next Silver Surfer. This movie and the first one to me was the right order for villains, Doom first, Silver Surfer second
It's not as bad as I remembered, but it still isn't the greatest again. The casting choices were not great. The story was paper thin. It was cool to see the silver surfer though and even his performance through me off,How are you not letting the actor voices makes no sense to me.All in all They double down and made the series even worse by remaking it and having even worse casting choices
Your complaints might actually not be the films' fault - They feel like they're made on a small budget and are handcuffed by that. Now, I know I should look this up, but I don't have the motivation. Perhaps, one day, we shall find out the truth. Hopefully tomorrow, or perhaps even in an hour p.s. ... please look this up. No pressure at all, of course!
the writers really should have leaned in on the general's dislike of reed and being humiliated by him as the reason why he gave doom so much leeway. but the US govt have historically pardoned very bad people so long as they can use their talents so its not like its unbelievable they would do this. i also think that norrin's turn is believable. he didn't do it because sue is hot but because sue engaged with him on a personal level, talked with him person to person and challenged his belief that he has to serve galactus. maybe for every other planet norrin destroyed, its inhabitants just went straight to trying to kill and capture him. really apart from johnny sue is the MVP of the movie 😂
We're in 2023, had endless superhero movies and the mcu and still havn't seen a skyscraper sized galactus on the big screen. That's what's wrong with superhero movies today
Perfect casting and this movie hell no. Really don't get that praise Marvel didn't have spot on casting with the exception of Wesley Snipes Blade pre MCU
I never thought this movie was awful. I just thought the depiction of Galactus sucked. I wanted a giant man who eats planets because that's what the character is.
Are we ever going to answer Jason Lee's question, did things "dork" change to rock or stay normal? I have a theory but its maybe too much for this comment section lol
Support: John Krazinski can be campy/cheesy, but an MCU Reed Richards needs some intelligent cockyness which, Office included, I have not seen from him. We need nerdy who gets super powers thrust on them. Smart != emotionally stable and Krazinski played emotionally stable/calm. Ioan G did good with nerdy and somewhat unstable. So I agree Krazinski does not work for MCU. Try something closer to older Tom Holland. Luke Wilson (NOT OWEN!!!), see Idiocracy. Colin Jost? Andy Samberg?
The mcu learned nothing from this film.the unfunny humour bled into what could have been a good movie (without the slapstick.) And stupid " reed keeps ignoring me trope" from Susan storm while he s trying to save earth.it was potentially a good movie.
I enjoyed ff4 part 1 and part 2 the remake is awful though. Furthermore i enjoyed most of the marvel and dc movies of the 2000s era. Daredevil, the punisher, the Spider-Man trilogy, hulk 2003,tdk trilogy, superman returns, most the X-Men movies except maybe the dark pheonix, new mutants, and X-Men origins.
The movie has a big plot this is a family friendly film I even like the GameCube game but right now Kevin is gonna make another fantastic four movie but I don't think of watching it
Ok you asked who i would have cast in the MCU Reboot. I don't know to be honest. My first introduction to the Fantastic Four was the cartoon. Hear me out please because I know someone is going to think my suggestions are crazy. During the 1990s as a teenager I always had a dream cast of the following people. Picture this its the 1990s I would have made a film between the years of 1995-1997 Jim Carrey is Mr Fantastic Sharon Stone is The Invisible Woman Bruce Willis is The Thing Brad Pitt is The Human Torch
Born in 96 and being introduced to Jim Carrey with the Mask my jaw just hit the floor with how obvious he is for Mr Fantastic HE'S THE RUBBER MAN ALREADY
Best part of the film is Galactus and the Silver Surfer worst part is the writing and directing. Movies worth watching I give it a 5.6 out of 10 meaning worth watching nothing special. They dropped the ball on a movie with two of the coolest marvel charters in the entire universe. wow let down.
Yeah he knows the Surfer, but not Dr. Doom. Who was terrible. He’s not an evil business man. He’s a Eastern European dictator. Costume department was good though
This film has my favourite Stan Lee cameo to this day. The fact he's playing himself and he's not invited to Reed and Sues wedding is wonderful.

This movie and the first one to me was the right order for villains, Doom first, Silver Surfer second
Nah, having Surfers introduction be shrouded in mystery was a great idea
It's not as bad as I remembered, but it still isn't the greatest again. The casting choices were not great. The story was paper thin. It was cool to see the silver surfer though and even his performance through me off,How are you not letting the actor voices makes no sense to me.All in all They double down and made the series even worse by remaking it and having even worse casting choices
Michael Chiklis is a huge fan of the comics.
i liked both the 2005 and 2007 films of the Fantastic Four its a lot better then that 2015 film that movie Sucked
Agreed
The Incredibles(2004) is still the best and the 2005 film is pretty decent. Everything else? GARBAGE
There have been good Fantastic Four scripts written, but they never got made
Also Ride the Storm by Simon Webbe was a low key banger of a song 🤟
I was young when I saw these movies
And I remember not liking them
The action was limited and the story went nowhere
Your complaints might actually not be the films' fault - They feel like they're made on a small budget and are handcuffed by that. Now, I know I should look this up, but I don't have the motivation.
Perhaps, one day, we shall find out the truth.
Hopefully tomorrow, or perhaps even in an hour p.s. ... please look this up. No pressure at all, of course!

AVI ARAD
the writers really should have leaned in on the general's dislike of reed and being humiliated by him as the reason why he gave doom so much leeway. but the US govt have historically pardoned very bad people so long as they can use their talents so its not like its unbelievable they would do this.
i also think that norrin's turn is believable. he didn't do it because sue is hot but because sue engaged with him on a personal level, talked with him person to person and challenged his belief that he has to serve galactus. maybe for every other planet norrin destroyed, its inhabitants just went straight to trying to kill and capture him. really apart from johnny sue is the MVP of the movie 😂
We're in 2023, had endless superhero movies and the mcu and still havn't seen a skyscraper sized galactus on the big screen. That's what's wrong with superhero movies today
I knew how bad that live-action TOM AND JERRY was gonna be when I saw it had the same director
I enjoyed the Tim Story Fantastic Four movies. I made the Thing’s roar a meme!
Perfect casting and this movie hell no. Really don't get that praise Marvel didn't have spot on casting with the exception of Wesley Snipes Blade pre MCU
The casting is not kind of perfect. It's totally perfect
I agree. No Krasinski.
Chris Evans was the best thing about those flicks. Human Torch baybee
Wish they would bring Silver Surfer back.
I only remember the scene between the Thing and the guard. That's enough for me.
This was a fun film ... Light, basic, entertaining... Nothing wrong with that... People complain to much
I never thought this movie was awful. I just thought the depiction of Galactus sucked. I wanted a giant man who eats planets because that's what the character is.
Once again, I blame AVI ARAD for the failure of this franchise
If it wasn't for him, a 3rd movie would've been made
I've been waiting for your comment. I know you kind of guy who's interested more in bashing Marvel Movies
Underrated comic book movie
I really didn't have a problem with it and didn't understand the negativity.
Better than most the MCU movies lately
I don’t disagree. He was just a fan casting cause he looks the part. What matters if he can embody Reed Richards, not just look like him.
That chase scene is peak
Are we ever going to answer Jason Lee's question, did things "dork" change to rock or stay normal? I have a theory but its maybe too much for this comment section lol
I like this movie.
Fight me
It’s better than people say but it’s not as good as the movie to which it is a sequel
Compared to the beggining of mcu this movie sucks ass. Compared to most modern day mcu its a master peice. Lol
Exactly. It’s terrible and wonderful at the same time
Damn dude Jo blo originals your opinions all over the place lol I can't even tell which movies you like and which ones you don't sometimes
Relatable of the surfer to meet Sue Storm and decide earth can live.
I liked it 👍
Seen it in the cinema 😊😊😊
Silver surfer was great in this movie.
The movie has a big plot this is a family friendly film I even like the GameCube game but right now Kevin is gonna make another fantastic four movie but I don't think of watching it
This movie is better then 90% of the crap we have gotten since end game was over
So, why should John Krasinski NOT play Reed Richards?
Ok you asked who i would have cast in the MCU Reboot.
I don't know to be honest.
My first introduction to the Fantastic Four was the cartoon.
Hear me out please because I know someone is going to think my suggestions are crazy.
During the 1990s as a teenager I always had a dream cast of the following people.
Picture this its the 1990s
I would have made a film between the years of
1995-1997
Jim Carrey is
Mr Fantastic
Sharon Stone is
The Invisible Woman
Bruce Willis is
The Thing
Brad Pitt is
The Human Torch
Born in 96 and being introduced to Jim Carrey with the Mask my jaw just hit the floor with how obvious he is for Mr Fantastic HE'S THE RUBBER MAN ALREADY
Best part of the film is Galactus and the Silver Surfer worst part is the writing and directing. Movies worth watching I give it a 5.6 out of 10 meaning worth watching nothing special. They dropped the ball on a movie with two of the coolest marvel charters in the entire universe. wow let down.
What’s your beef with Tobey???
Yeah he knows the Surfer, but not Dr. Doom. Who was terrible. He’s not an evil business man. He’s a Eastern European dictator. Costume department was good though
I like the old Fantastic Four movies (both of them). And not just because Jessica Alba is maybe the hottest woman on the planet.
Yeah she’s easy on the eyes
