It really impressed me, at the time, that Wimmer decided to give an holistic approach to the suppression of feelings. The touch of a hand in a cold metal bar, the warmth of the sun shining in the morning through the window, listening to classical music for the first time are things often overlooked when we think about feelings. I can still feel the warmth from the rising sun scene every time I watch it, even if it is a cold night.
Three scenes stood out to me: 1) The scene when he takes off the film from the windows and FEELs the sunset for the 1st time 2) The Beethoven scene. As someone who likes classical music a bit, it was glorious. 3) When they find the Mona Lisa under the floorboards and burn it. When l saw that scene for the 1st time it made me physically sick just thinking people can do such things. There’s lots of works of art that have been destroyed recently and sad to see it happen in our days too.
This movie has always been so underrated. The cinematography, the script, the action, the message in this movie are all so well done. This is where I started following Christian Bale's career with much more interest. Also Sean Bean's in it... and he dies with among the most memorable lines in cinema to me
I absolutely love this movie! I was in high school, and one of my classmates told me about it. He said, "Check it out. It's better than the Matrix, has more action and a better story." Equilibrium wasn't in theaters anymore, so I bought the DVD. I loved it! I still have the DVD to this day. I wouldn't say it has a better story than the Matrix, but I do think it has better action.
Equilibrium is an underrated movie in my opinion, but this is coming from a guy who is a huge fan of Christian Bale. I watch damn near everything he’s in he does the action very well. It was a interesting premise and story. Some of the execution wasn’t top-notch pitch perfect but when it comes to the stunts and the action, it was ahead of its time he was John Wick in that movie before there was a John Wick.
@ it’s underrated because it’s a movie that I’m pretty positive not too many people universally I’ve heard of in my personal opinion. I mean it’s not a movie that people will quit to pop in. It’s one of those movies where you have to have seen a particular actors work in my opinion
Well, this movie was great! The choreography was fantastic and the characters were wonderful. I watch it whenever it airs. So what happened to it? Nothing...we still love it.❤
This is one of the few movies that I actually thought about turning off after seeing the crap opening action scene that got infinitely better with later action scenes and a great story. The only thing that kept me watching was seeing Sean Bean with Christian Bale and hearing their Fahrenheit 451-esque dialogue and was hooked. I love this movie.
@@Zed-fq3lj haha, funny how you see Idiocracy as dystropian, but it's true, and we kinda living in it now as we speak... An interesting list, all of them are good movies in their own ways. Thanks for sharing. 🙂
Definitely one of my top 5-10 movies. Found it randomly in a video rental store. We rented solely off of the cover and was pleasantly surprised on how much we all loved it.
My idea is WTF Happened to DOA Dead or Alive (2006)? With the US release date being switched back after its international release flopped after TWC, Summit and Universal Int’l bought it
I saw Equilibrium in theaters and have enjoyed it ever since. Bale kills it in this. Such subtle things he does in his performance that you don't even realize w/out watching it multiple times.
This movie is absolutely brilliant. It's a shame more people don't know about it. But hopefully videos like this will help others find out how truly great this is
I first saw this movie on the Sci-Fi channel. (Around 2006) I instantly loved it. The setting, the acting, the choreography, the concept. That open scene with the Mona Lisa spoke volumes about this world we were in. All was amazing to me. Comparing this movie to the Matrix is just a lazy comparison.
If this was released today with Nolan's name on the cover ppl would call it a masterpiece. It holds up reasonably well as far as the CGI and set design goes even cars which weren't even new looking when the film came out feel futuristic like if we just started only using boring designs
I loved this film! I remember rewinding my VHS tape about 15 times when I saw that "Gun fu" sequence the first time. Personally, I think it bears similarities to Logan's Run. The clerics always felt like sandmen to me.
I remember how Diggs was constantly savaged for his performance in this. Dude is smiling through half the film, even chuckles a few times. Like dude, YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO HAVE EMOTIONS lol, fuckin Taye Diggs.
I've spent years trying to recommend this movie. I've seen it several times. I think it's great. I'm surprised it was shot in such a short time. That's a very tight schedule for a feature.
I remember I caught the trailer to this on a dvd and that’s how I learned of it’s upcoming limited theatrical release. I saw it in the theater and loved it. Having gone back and rewatched it 2 years ago for the first time since its initial release; I definitely don’t know what I was thinking when I loved it. I don’t like it much at all. The special effects were really bad. The music was super cheesy too. I think it would have been much better if it had a bigger budget of course.
I wonder if this movie was a bigger hit would we have gotten a sequel that could have completely derailed the masterpiece that is the Dark Knight trilogy. It still blows my mind how the universal dominoes fall.
One of the most greatest underrated Christian Bale movies of all time , and I own it as well . Well love have as download movie on this site ,that has some my top flicks on it .But just does not all , Oh yeah Sean Bean was cool in this movie , and watching was like a cross between "The Matrix","1984 " and "Mad Max " .Which made it a pretty badass movie to watch , and was on Prime for a little while , but sure it will be back .
I got to see this in theaters. There were 4 of us total in the auditorium and when it started they were mistakingly playing another movie (I think it was the movie They). I was eager to introduce my friends to it after. But, that had to wait until it was released on DVD. It left theaters too soon. Lol Coincidentally, I ended up working with a guy years later that was talking to me about how he saw this movie I theaters and turns out, he was one of the other 3 people in the same screening.
I remember watching this several years ago. Initially I thought it was really good, but as it went along there were a few scenes where I thought the acting or choreography wasn't that great. That makes senses if they were forced to do many scenes in one take. Unfortunately, it showed enough to hold the movie back from being something I'd watch again.
Love the Movie, but the Character played by Taye Diggs is my only major Problem, because for Someone with no Emotions, that Character shows different Emotions in nearly every Scene he is in.
I like Equilibrium in the early 2000s when I first watched it and it still remains on my long movie playlist. Spoilers.. I just hated the way they used CGI at the end when Bale kills DIggs, besides that awesome movie.
Long overdue for a re-release on digital media I wasn’t too big a fan of Taye Diggs performance, I believe he showed a bit too much emotion, considering the setting of the film. Other then that, the film is practically perfect imo.
I have not seen this film since 2002. I hope someone release it in proper 4K quality, I know there's a blu-ray out there but from what I read, the quality is trash.
A better antecedent to this film is Lucas' THX-1138. This film adds the action elements, which to my mind aren't a good fit with the film thematically - the movie is an uneasy mix of fast paced action and emotional chill. As a whole, it just didn't quite work for me.
Why does anyone reference Rotten Tomatoes as opposed to literally anything else more reliable, like a random person at the DMV? IMDB existed nearly a decade before the Rotten critics, and better represents accurate appreciation (or lack thereof) for a film.
Equilibrium has nothing in common with the Matrix. Their is no wirefu in the movie Bale did all his own stunts but one there's only one slow-motion scene and its not close to bullet time. To say it's a knock off means the Matrix knocked off Dark City. It even took some set piece from it so not even close.
What do you mean? It was a great movie and it released and now it's over. What are you getting at? Movies release and then are watched and we move on. Nothing "Happened" to it.
One of the most underrated movies ever made. This movie's influence is every where in todays action movies
I've probably watched this film at least 5 times. A much underrated classic.
