@@roninnotasheeplikeyou.2631 I now watched a couple...I honestly don't know what to make of it. I'm no internet troller but watching a few of his videos just urges me to trolling the bastard 🤣
The ending to this movie is unexpectedly/pleasantly and emotionally impactful. As a fella with two brothers of my own, this wildly cheesy yet earnest scene spoke to me, and I recall tearing up (as a kid) watching this for the first time...
JulesGunn After that many years the guy who Killed Tommy's Brother, finally had the Courage, Honor, & respect too walk over too Tommy and say "that he was sorry for killing his brother, so with Honor & Respect he offered himself too be Tommy's new Brother." Also he knew that Tommy won that match, so he knew that Tommy deserved his Gold Metal More than he did so with his Honor he gave his Gold Metal too Tommy. The next guy who dislocated Alex's shoulder, knew that that Alex won that match by a T. K. O. So he knew as well Alex deserved his Gold Metal than him.
I was bullied as a kid and this movie inspired me to take martial arts. I practiced TKD for months to confront the leader of the bullies. The confrontation happened, I was super pumped and went into the Alex Grady stance. *POW*...one punch was all it took ... I woke up maybe 4 mins later with a broken tooth, dislocated jaw, and was rushed to the hospital. Luckily my buddy had the foresight to place the tooth on ice and I got it fitted again. Ahh, fun times...
James Lew is one of the best Korean martial arts Taekwondo technicians and martial artists of all time. He inspired my own kicking as well having been in Tang Soo Do and Taekwondo for 41 years now. I also loved him in "The Perfect Weapon" and he is a great bad guy and stuntman as well, and can take hits really well and makes them look very realistic.
actually hes american born and raised in escalon california of chinese descent not korean. he does practice and teach korean martial arts and in my opinion he is one of the best of the best along with eric roberts.
If you watched this movie as a kid, you did one or all of the following: 1. Picked a fight with a kid in school. 2. As you were ready to get into it, you said in a quiet tone: "I'm gonna kick your ass" 3. You got into that awkward fight stance Alex Grady had. I did all three!
i know this is our childhood movie, and i know that you all cried at the end.. but i never did. I'd watch this film daily (no shitting you) and i was in rageeee by the training and the fight! I LOVED IT!!!!!!!!
That jumping reverse kick into the the springboard reverse punch ......one of my favorite moves ever with the kick Dutch lands in the first karate kid tournament
I practice Judo for already 10 years and I love the old Martial Arts flicks instead of today’s flicks where editing makes them move like a cocaine monkey, give and take zillion of punches/kicks for 5 min without getting tired.
I took some taekwondo classes, so if I were Alex Grady, and meet up with a taekwondo artist that can set off bone-crushing kicks and punches, here would be my strategy against this infamous Korean fighter: 1. Use your hands to fend off the opponent's high kicks. High kicks are the mainstay of most taekwondo "free fights" (also known as "gibon kyorugi"). 2. Watch for the opponent's crippling move - the standing reverse ax-kick (or "neria chaki") to the face - it is a crippler to me and a knockout if it connects perfectly. 3. Watch out for the opponent's spinning, roundhouse and instep kicks targeting my face - use the blocks with your hands and immediately counterrattack before that fighter does damage to me.
Also, competition TKD tends to be very direct and linear in its methodology. Using old--school circular evasions and counters can disrupt a modern TKD player's normal "script"
Thank you for that information, I street fight mostly but I'm waiting to find someone who also street fights Tae Kwon do as well, so I can fuck him up right good, but for now I keep losing
@Curt Christensen You talking about the whole movie, or just this fight scene? If just the scene, then yeah, only the Korean was susposed to know tkd. If the movie??? lol Both Rhee bros are masters, and did you see the Korean coach?? That's Grandmaster Hee Il Cho! Not to mention James Lew, playing Sae Jin Kwon - knows a ton of martial arts, including TKD. This was the probably the best martial arts movie of its time.
@@Elurin Chris Penn was a trained Karate Man. I knew of the Rhee brothers as well for there stunt choreography I presumed that Eric Roberts was skilled in the martial arts.
The UFC and MMA made movies like this archaic, since people know that isn’t how people fight, not to mention the rules are completely wrong for competitive TKD.
This movie is not well enough remembered I had to Google what I remembered to find it because I couldn't remember the name , I'll never forget this movie I loved it since I was a child and this movie was made so many years before me!
