I always wished in this final scene, they'd show flash backs of Daniel unleashing on Johnny, his friends and The Chozen in one clip and then finally remembering all the killer moves he learned of the past and then utterly destroying Barnes. It just needed more. Climax needs to be a true Climax. There was so much they could have done. It's like Daniel forgot everything he learned. Come on Daniel! Avildsen himself said 3 is bad. He rushed it, and hated the script. It was more for the money and to get it out because it was due for a sequel.
I posted on other threads that if the actor was alive it would STILL be better for his character to be dead from a story standpoint both because its realistic (the character was older than the actor I think) and also because dealing with the loss of his mentor is a great part of Daniel's character development. If the actor was still alive then dreams, flashbacks or hallucinations etc could be used for him. Similar to how "Koba" died in the 2nd of the new Planet of the Apes movies and still appeared several times in the 3rd movie (or Obi Wan in Star Wars).
honestly i am glad that Mr. Miyagi is not a part of the Cobra Kai series. It shows that life moves on and that we suffer losses. It would be too much if an adult Daniel always runs to him for advice. He has to find his own way now.
I'd really love to see a scene where Johnny visits Miyagi's grave, thanking him for saving his life at the start of Karate Kid 2. I think its over due.
Mr. Miyagi's shout is meant to yank Daniel out of despair. It made him a receptive student. The bow he gives his teacher is a thank you. Daniel does this particular kata to distract Barnes. His final position is a trap, patiently waiting for any attack. Barnes is forced to come in blindly, and Daniel simply flips him. I find this ending fits with the others. When Daniel is forced past his fears, the way to defeat his opponent becomes simple. Miyagi saying that he must not lose to fear is an understatement. The kata is really a centering technique, a gathering of all focus, energy, and willpower. They think he's crazy, but he's just calm. Great stuff.
@michaelgowcharan783 Thank you. Yes, this was a real harsh lesson for him. He was betrayed by a false teacher, like his earlier opponents. He's so lucky to have a teacher who takes him back. The teacher/student dynamic really hit darker areas because now Daniel turns on his own teacher. When he yells at Miyagi, you can see how hurt he is by it, and it breaks my heart every time. It's a tough watch because Daniel is facing people who are unrepentant in their evil, and there's three of them. He's so lost here, and Miyagi is too. I'm glad Daniel retrained and went back to his roots, which is what the bonsai tree represents. Not just a tree in the shop, but a strong tradition Miyagi brought with him. I saw this in the theater when I was 14, and I remember the end of the 1980s having a kind of cynicism along with it. Terry Silver and John Kreese are the embodiment of this. How Silver mocks Miyagi is despicable, and Barnes is a great example of how a ruthless warrior can become a champion. I like to think of him as Johnny without repentance.

Mr Miyagi truly is the GOAT of this franchise. A true mentor. It was SOOO satisfying to see in CK S5 finale how Daniel went on Miyagi-mode at the end

If I was an elite martial artist and got completely dominated by someone like that my self esteem would be so low I would not even want to show my face in public again.

My all time *favorite* part in this scene is when Mr. Miaygi, ( sorry I spelled his name wrong ), ran to Daniel side and gave ( Daniel ) an " encouragement " speech. That part ALWAYS melted my heart. 😩😫
I was raised on Pat Morita as Miyagi - long long before I ever discovered he was a comic, and a comedic actor. It's such a testament to how effective he was an actor to be so believable as Miyagi over that original trilogy.

So He fought Chosen to Death, in Okinawa, and then went back home, and chickened out against a guy that chosen could destroy in a heartbeat? That’s what I hated about this movie. You’d think after having fought for his life in Okinawa, against a true Karate master he’d go on the third one to take on a challenge where the stakes are higher, with a more dramatic arc, but fighting in the All Valley championship again… and with no fighting evolution after the experiences of the first 2. What a disappointment. I can’t stress enough how much I hated this movie. Pat Morita and Ralp Macchio were great, but the writing…. Absolutely lazy.

Ali's conclusion with Daniel might not have been good, but at least that had a conclusion as to what came out of it. Jessica ultimately friend-zoned Daniel, but again, there was a conclusion. We don't see what happened with Daniel and Kumiko. Did they just break up because he had to go back to the States? Did Chozen steal her from Daniel? Did Kumiko die? I'm not exactly the biggest guy on romance, but you need to conclude your stories, and Daniel & Kumiko made for a nice couple. One I surprisingly thought was better than Daniel & Ali.
Honestly, at 8:38 when the music kicks in is just perfect, it really makes it feel like Daniel was reaching a new level or changing into a different person.
It was a wasted opportunity that the actor Sean Kanan did not film a series of action movies involving martial arts where he is the hero. He totally had the charisma for it.
While I agree he should've done more karate movies I think his career choice of acting in the soap operas young and the restless bold and the beautiful and general hospital was a better career choice
After having a fight to the death with Chozen, who to me, seems way more experienced overall than Barnes, Daniel shouldn't have any fear at all at this point. If Barnes was in part 2 and Chozen was in part 3, it'd make more sense.

I know Daniel's relationship story isn't as important as him learning to stand up for himself and others, but at least we got proper conclusions with Ali and Jessica. It's set in 85, but I find it strange that both Barnes and Larusso are still under 18. Larusso is already a few months out of high school, and Barnes is hopping around on his own fighting in tournaments across the country and entering legally binding contracts with shady millionaires. Same with Daniel and Mr. Miyagi with the tree business. Kinda doesn't make sense. Wouldn't they both have to at least be 18 to do that?!!
Amazing how they can make movies with everyone involved giving their best. The guy playing Barnes was sick I believe during the filming of the final fight.
Would have been great if Daniel had used silvers techniques in the beginning just to score the first 2 points then Barnes anticipates the next moves and starts beating on Daniel and then that’s when Mr. Miyagi steps in to motivate Daniel!! 🙌💪
Let's be honest here, Noryuki *Pat* Morita is the real star of all three of these films. At least it might be argued that he is the real heart of the trilogy.
Sometimes the biggest battle in your life will be what you might regard as 'home territory'....thinking you have it all covered cos he was victorious once dont mean its a given he will always be victorious....this scene embodies that. In the first he battled a schoolnyard bully, in this film, he battled himself...put some respect on the movie! Peace, love and guidance always
Yes, Danial won because of his discipline in these movies, and there is honour in that. However In a street fight or dark alley, I will take Mike Barnes or Johnny Lawrence every time because they will do what has to be done to win that fight
Looking back on these movies they were so corny and just weird, But I did learn from them. The greatest lesson was. Believe in yourself. You are much stronger than you realize. To thy own self be true!

When Terry Silver was in KK 3 - he was an old adult and Daniel was a boy. Now in Cobra Kai they are both Old Adults. Such magic.

That's the crazy part of the story. If you actually look at the timeline of the Karate Kid.....its all one year.

@@TheWereman84Even more messed up is that we get no conclusion with Kumiko. I know Daniel's relationship story isn't as important as him learning to stand up for himself and others, but at least we got proper conclusions with Ali and Jessica. As far as I can tell, Daniel was trying to cheat on Kumiko.
@@nascarfanatic2425 Yet even more messed up was that in Karate Kid Part III, Daniel's entire apartment complex was torn down . And in the first Season 1 of Cobra Kai the whole complex was rebuilt brick by brick to the way it was.

It's set in 85, but I find it strange that both Barnes and Larusso are still under 18. Larusso is already a few months out of high school, and Barnes is hopping around on his own fighting in tournaments across the country and entering legally binding contracts with shady millionaires. Same with Daniel and Mr. Miyagi with the tree business. Kinda doesn't make sense. Wouldn't they both have to at least be 18 to do that?!!
Amazing how they can make movies with everyone involved giving their best. The guy playing Barnes was sick I believe during the filming of the final fight.

Sometimes the biggest battle in your life will be what you might regard as 'home territory'....thinking you have it all covered cos he was victorious once dont mean its a given he will always be victorious....this scene embodies that. In the first he battled a schoolnyard bully, in this film, he battled himself...put some respect on the movie! Peace, love and guidance always
