    I have seen dedicated slide tables on band saws in the manufacturing world and have wondered why they haven't made they way to the garage woodworkers shop. Honestly this might be the best upgrade to a band saw i have ever done. there will be more upgrades and how to videos to come with bandsaw slide table

    Beautiful. I use my bandsaw for as much as possible. Blades last longer due to more teeth, hardly ever need to be cleaned. Its a safer tool than the table saw and a good bandsaw with a good blade can cut things just as fast.
    I do as much of my lumber milling on the bandsaw as i can then run it through the helical head planer on the side.
    I've been thinking of putting a sliding table on my table saw and bandsaw for a while. Thanks for the video!

    I've looked through a lot of the comments and replies and haven't seen much about the sliding mechanism. I'm useing a Gil-bilt kit as the basis of an 18" bandsaw for myself. The reason I think I need a saw that big, that heavy and that powerful is that I want to be able to slab, riff and quarter saw.
    You're a master of design and build, like a lot of others I respect and admire your work. When you can please let me know about the sliding mechanism.
    Thanks in advance.

      I believe that he used a Sawstop sliding table Aka Harvey sliding table. I say this as Sawstop's sliding table looks like a cheaper vesion of the Harvey sliding table and both have the same layout and use the same hold downs Bolt patern. Also known as the Excaliber before That company was bought out. Which pop up some times on craigslist.

    Very nice project Izzy. Down here in mid-Michigan I built a big steel slider table for my bandsaw 2 years ago. Made 100+ 5-6 ft long square billets out of “firewood “. All 5 to 9” square. Used billets to jack up my sagging old 100+ yr old barn. It was spectacularly useful. As it happens, I Just took the sled apart last night - time to repurpose... and here you go with this beauty. Aluminum slider base with ply top is MUCH better for small stuff - I’m definitely going to rebuild something similar for my new shop (located in my newly leveled sweet old barn). Thanks so much for sharing your work and ideas...

    Izzy, I’m with you on this one. When you asked why more bandsaws don’t have a sliding table I immediately realized that I don’t have to buy a Jointer and if I make the sliding table long, with enough support, I can even rip long logs as well as cut 14” thick logs. I’m soooo, excited.

  • @ricos1497
    @ricos1497 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Izzy, you mentioned problems with longer stock. When you design your slide, you could design it so that the longer workpiece sits on top of two fixed points that are independent of the slide. The slide moves between the fixed points and workpiece, but when it reaches the end fixed point the slide drops slightly and you can slide it back to the first point and continue your cut. With some extendable in and outfeed dealies, you could cut lengths outdoors until such time as you reach the horizon at which point your workpiece will probably not be 100% flat due to the curvature of the earth (that is the level of accuracy we'll be expecting from any future sliding table build).

This would easily turn my band saw into a jointer that can be used on wide boards before going through the planer. This could also be used for re-sawing and veneers, even turn the band saw into a mill for slabbing. I agree with you, the possibilities here are almost endless. Then made a sliding cariage to fit over the fence with a thin catch on it then it is simple to push the peice through the saw. After using this system i can't beleive the saw makers contunue to do thing the way they do.

    Well a friend of mine keeps bragging on this Izzy guy! Who names their child Izzy I ask? Then he sends me the link to the BEST bandsaw upgrade ever! Well now I think Izzy is a genius. I don't care what they named him as I now like it and I subscribed and then got PO'd when I could not find instructions to build the upgrade and HAVE TO WAIT! LOL So here I sit with theme of jeopardy playing in the background!

    Hey Izzy nice one. I have been a meat cutter for over 35 years and i have meat cutting band saw in my shop. It has a sliding table and an adjustable tall fence to cut steaks at different thicknesses, or wood now in my case. I just can't imagine using a bandsaw without a sliding table. I'm definitely adding your jigs to mine thanks

    Awesome video. No limit to creativity. I agree jointers can be a little dangerous....so I put a 1/4 horsepower power feeder over the outfeed side of my jointer about 5" after the cutterhead. I just have to hand feed the board till it gets under the first wheel then the feeder does the rest. Way safer and much better result thanks to even pressure and feed rate.
