    Excellent - well done! 2009 Passat CC (2.0L TDI) stalled at an intersection and was just dead! Had it towed to a workshop - I believe it was the throttle body (or technically ASV valve) that was stuck shut so no air to engine?! Workshop cleaned it out but said I would need to get a new one installed later - $$$! I understand the circular gear and semi-circular gear in the body of the valve also wear out prematurely (due to turning the flap coated in all that sticky carbon). I noticed that X8R in the UK sell a kit with stronger carbon-fibre reinforced gears for the DIY mechanic - what do you think of this?

    Once the throttle body has been cleaned. Do I now require to calibrate the throttle valve, or will it learn itself now there is no blockage? Does it need it? And if it does what methods are available for doing so? I gather you can get software to interface with it but have also read about various forms of foot in peddle and turning the ignition on and off.

    I wouldn’t rotate it as I’d rather have to clean or replace this part which is easy rather than what your doing feeding all that carbon straight to the intake won’t be so easy cleaning that and off your valves.
    Clean and leave how it was or block off the egr and have it mapped out correctly and you won’t have this problem again.

      Egr valve on the later 2.0tdi are on the rear of the engine with the cooler. From memory they aren't sold separately, at least on some of the variants, as i have seem them fitted with tamper proof bolts into the egr cooler assembly. A pain to replace especially as a diyer. Leave it until you have an issue then have the valve and cooler sonic cleaned.

    • @FourRingsAuto
      @FourRingsAuto  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There's always going to be carbon build up, but when it's the wrong way it's hot air meeting the inlet air and forming on the throttle. There's nothing extra going to happen. This is the manufacturers recommended rectification, all other of their diesels are facing the inlet.

    A4 B8 2.0 TDI (CAGC) - I have rough idle (engine shaking badly, seems to work louder, noticeable vibrations inside of cabin), rev gauge is not fluctuating, rough idle happens random, and after pressing acc. pedal for few times or driving for a short time it becomes normal... does anyone have any idea why this is happening? I need to clean EGR valve (i think it is dirty), i tried to clean "throttle body" myself long time ago but later on i've read that butterfly plate inside is not good to touch or push, and i was pushing and releasing many times while cleaning, it is possible that i damaged my TB ? Also, i noticed engine temperature gauge is reaching 90 deg really slow and if i turn on heating it goes back to 70...60... degree.. I used vag-com to check high pressure and it is fluctuating it seems... no errors!

The same thing with the Temperature, but in sommer it reaches 90 degrees. I was thinking to check the tb or maybe to replace TB because it's not so expensive about 80€. Not getting up to temp is a thermostat related issue. On transverse DSG cars it can be tested by clamping the oil cooler coolant hose to the dsg. There is a thermostat in the hose that fails.

      I have sound knowledge of petrol engines but new to the diesel engine and it’s operation.
      Your answer has me on the right path to fixing it.
      Many thanks 👍🏻

    I dont get it. On most of websites i see it say that diesrls engine have no throttle bodies

      That's because most websites are full of people that don't know about cars.
      Modern diesel engines have throttle bodies, I don't care what anyone says as they're there. Some call them anti shudder valves or shut off valves as that was there use early in 90s maybe. But it is actually used now as a throttle during EGR operation to partially throttle the fresh air intake and pull more exhaust gas from the open EGR valve.
