This video format is amazing, with the voices and creators over the process, I'd like to see more of these. It's been 30 minutes and it didn't feel like half an hour at all
"Zen-like, meditative quality" is a phrase that comes to mind.
Chamfers are what separate us from the animals after all
Tolerances are what separates engineers from artists
Rhee ears both some of the best quotes ever.
@@DraperDanger line to line design with no tolerances.... *Shudder*
We really are the most tolerant people then I suppose, cool.
Agree! Now googling what are “chamfers”. 😂
One man puts on a chamfer another takes off arris.
As someone who is currently working on a tau inspired army for kickstarter, thank you for your inspiration @PiperMakes
Ikr, inspiration is huge.
Mate, I am not a TH-cam comment kind of bloke. But your videos are next level. Got me into printing. Cheers cobba and I hope ya slam a few tinnies while printing and painting.
This channel is by far putting out the best miniature 3d printing videos currently. Please keep doing what you're doing.
Piper makes some amazing Tau alternatives, watched a few of their streams in the past and had a good time watching the creation of their minis. Great video mate really enjoyable
Awesome video all around - showing off multiple creators' work, painting, great interviews, new printing ecosystem, practical advice. And thank you for the full disclosure regarding the sponsorship. I can't tell you how much I appreciate and respect the transparency.
So awesome to hear from Piper! Really appreciate their comments on [REDACTED], and even more their sculpts
I can only like this video once?! Damn it!
As an aspiring 3D modeler this video was amazing. Thank you. I did not know you can do that with F360. Then again, they did talk about work around and experience with it, so it makes sense they can just "make it work." I've never even seen those models before, referring to the first artist, gonna check them out, I have always wanted a Tau/Mecha army.
As someone with only F360 experience (and general CAD) I also thought it was really inspiring. As much as I want to learn something like Blender, my background has spoiled me with parametrized dimensions and such.
@@spinafire Blender is so different to learn because it can do so much, like F360, and you need to whittle away the extra options. I have found a few channels that focus on 3D printing with Blender but they are few compared to the general "art" tutorials.
I honestly wish a company had both programs. Blender is missing CAD style construction. There are add ons, but not to CAD level yet. Parametric, to me, is both a blessing and a curse.
If you want a few blender channels, let me know.
@RoseKindred I would love to see those channels please.
@@rahotep789 "Artisans of Vaul" and "Grant Abbitt." Don't know why YT removed the comment though. Anyways, Grant has an intro playlist to Blender and is more "art" but has 3D stuff, AoV is solely for Blender for 3D and has a lot of tips.
@@RoseKindred second Artisans of Vaul, dude is a great guy and will often respond to questions in the comments and has really helped me grow as a 3D modeller to the point I even got my first (very basic) 3D printed mini done thanks to him as a test bed. It was modelled on the World War Robot Bertie action figure range which is all very simple shapes (cylinders for the body, ball joints for the arms because it's an action figure etc.).
There was even a point where I was trying to figure out how to do the ribbed undersuit of Space Marines and I asked him and he pointed me to a video he'd already done which gave me exactly what I needed.
piper makes is a cute, funny and skilled person- hope they keep at it, mecha needs more people like them
Absolutely wonderful video, I love seeing Piper get more and more appreciation for their gorgeous art and beautiful models. I bought the Archerfish model recently and I can't wait to get a trio of them printed to proxy some models in my army!
The new designs Piper is turning out are beautiful and I can't wait to see more of the new series, I feel like as good for Space Elves as they are clearly designed to be, I feel like they'd be exceptional Space Robot proxies. Just a giant hoard of them slowly walking towards you in rank and file repeating "How may I be of assistance? How may I be of assistance?"
I've been starting a Tau army and it's nice to hear some of these creators. I've been loving Riverside's work
Great conversation! There are many great 3d artists that create fantastic miniatures but not enough of them share their experience and talk about 3d modeling.
Best 3d printing channel around. I love the interviews you do; it really is something unique.
I have never seen a video by you before and 30 minutes into this video you earned a sub. This is just a masterclass of how to keep a painting video and an interview interesting by playing off the weaknesses of each. Audio-wise, a painting video is often just a voiceover sort of explaining what is being done or just raw silence and airbrush-hissing. Filling that with an interview with the modeler gives the interview some eye candy to watch while listening and the paints something interesting to listen to while you watch.
Okay if you keep the paste of increasing the production quality of your videos then we can watch your videos in VR at the end of the year. Thats incredible!
Chatting with the creators while painting their models is a great format.
I really like the idea of the Tau army but hated the GW models. I came across @Pipermakes and absolutely fell in love with them. They're everything the GW models should have been but failed miserably to do.
I'm a massive fan of Ghost in the Shell and, for me, her models hit that aesthetic perfectly. I was actually thinking about making the models myself in Fusion 360 but I couldn't have dreamed getting them to the same standard as Piper's.
I'm currently working through building units as I can and hopefully will have a working army in the next month or so.
Absolutely love the colour scheme in the video.
What a fantastic video. I’m loving your content and find myself refreshing your channel regularly to see if you’ve posted anything new! The interviews were extremely well done and something I’d love to see more of.
Dude, this is top notch content.
Best creator in the hobby.
The AnglerGeist reminds me of Titanfall mechs so much and that makes me wish I had a 3d printer to make some
Your technique of painting technique of dry brushing and then using speed paints to maintain the awesome highlighting it achieves is really awesome. I may have to get more speed paints!
Great content! Love your artistic style and enjoy your process from printing to painting while also using that as a background while interviewing/highlighting creators. Brilliant 👌
I always look forward to see your videos. Your quality is truly amazing!
I love Pipermakes' creations and can't wait to get started on my own army! Also the recent sculpts are simply incredible to the point where I'm going to pick up the army just for those sculpts.
Such a good video. So much quality. I have just got a couple of files in this video, and ready to print along.
Such great artists with their models.
I've only recently got into 3d printing (Less than 2 months) And this video has been amazing to me, I enjoy podcasts and interviews and this has been right up my street, I saw your other video mentioning you had gave up offering a presupport service. You seem to enjoy interviewing file creators and your content style if perfect for a podcast! Thank you so much for your content!
I really enjoyed this longer form video! And hearing all the interesting things about making models
this was a really good video. interviews and documentation of makers is really important and I hope you get to do more videos like this :)
Great insights and beatifully edited video. Nice paint job too 😉
Fantastic video! Love Pipermakes stuff
Love Pipers take on the games co ...
Great episode- I very recently found Pipermakes and was completely blown away so this is super timely.
wow what a format and experience, fantastic thanks.
This was a beautifully made video and I absolutely love pipermakes.
The interview/podcast format really suits you and it really feels like a natural conversation.
I saw the review of the HeyGears by VoGMan on YT and even though it's expensive it looks to be THE game changer for 3D printers that other companies will need to follow.
We need simple but ultra useful things such as temp control and heating and not higher print resolutions that don't change anything if the model is not super detailed in itself...
All of the features on those printers are available for much cheaper. Their washing solution is also just needlessly asinine with a whole moving platform. Heaters are also not needed unless you're printing in ridiculous non-climate-controlled places. Auto resin fillers are something you can buy or even print yourself.
Nothing there is worth $1700, let alone the $2500 they want to charge.
That was an amzing video. I really like to hear the thoughts of all these creators. Especially also the balancing of doing your own work and staying close to mayor Miniature Companys in the design. Also the underlying painting process was good. Hope to see more videos with other creators as well. Maybe Astra Militarum ;)
I'd love to see more of these.
Great video, I really enjoyed the interviews. I'm all for a podcast/interview type of videos with STL makers.
very interesting interview keep up the great work to the both of you.
Holy S***, I love this, MORE PLEASE
Chad video my guy. Keep on rolling!
i wanted to start a new army last year. had several ideas for the faction. when i found pipers tau, it was instantly decided. so i got a whole army of it. and i absolutely love it. best tau models out there for me.
I think a Manta would look nice at the back of that army 👀
Good work. Thank you for sharing. I’m a new creator and terrain designing and it’s pretty intimidating. REally happy for your continuous success and growth. Lots to be proud of.
Currently building my first ever combat patrol, T'au Empire, really found this cool and the transparent look is amazing
These designs are so cool! And I feel so vindicated doing my designs in Solidworks Maker instead of Blender
i've wanted to 3d print Tau proxy models for a long while, and i found Piper on my own a couple moths ago, and have had the entire catalog on my "to buy list". after i get my resin printer this christmas, you better believe i'm grabbing so many of those models and printing them!
Hey Sixer,
Thanks for conducting this interview. I've been using it as a reference link to anyone requesting an All-in-one solution to 3d printing in my local hobby groups.
Cheers!
Piper makes is the single biggest reason I'm looking into getting a 3D printer! Amazing models
great video Daaaaaammmn.
So grateful for this video! Wasn't aware of these content creators however glad they're on my radar now and look forward to supporting them in the future. Thank you.
16:25 love the shhh as it moves out of stealth!!!
What CAD focused modelling software does, is not replaceable with polygon modelling or sculpting. You can do hard surface modelling with Blender, Max, Maya, or even Zbrush, but that's not ideal. So Blender would be in some cases the opposite of "easy mode"
3:12 cheeky vortex
As someone who loves PiperMakes mechs... There are so many variations to the kits that it is no suprise you missed the one with the hand attached. Happened a few times to me...
Cracking work! absolutely loving to not only see your process but hearing from the creators behind it all! entertaining and informative.
She has great stuff. I especially like her older stealth suit guys.
Piper does great stuff. I've been a fan of their work for a while now.
12:56 - protocol 3; protect the pilot
Such titanfall vibes I love it
You could do videos on anything and I'd watch it my guy. Keep it up!
I am one of those people that got a printer to print these models I've only just finished doing exposure tests and I cant wait
Great video as always just banging the content quality out of the park.
I don't agree with the overall trend for emulating big brothers product's as 1 : One and hoping the language is enough to delineate your work. As a practical tradesperson and creative to boot I've always thought it shouldn't take long for someone to move out of the shadow of mentors.
Really enjoyed the vid... Ive sort of killed my own hobby drive just by placing expectations on myself after gaining a few particularly notable followers... but im slowly getting the desire back. These sculpts you've shown off here are really ticking the boxes for me..
Reason for the comment: a quick tip for painting yellow since you're airbrushing - Do the entire mini in the mauve, and then do a tight top down spray of a white/offwhite... then go over that with the yellow of choice. It'll avoid that greening, and give you a really nice transition.
Yellow over Mauve/magenta/pink generally gives a nice orange-brown shadow tone that will blend in with your original mauve base layer
Crazy that they're doing their modeling in f360!
The pipermakes interview was excellent! Would love to listen to you interview designers in podcast form, with video of course so we can see the models lol
with those cmyk resins, you can print full color lithophanes with a few layers
I did in fact buy a mini 8k s after watching this video in order to print Pipermakes minis.
Yesss new video
these legally distinct cow mecha are some of the coolest looking mecha I have seen in the table top space, Makes me want to get these its too bad that I cant 3d print myself maybe I can ask a friend :o
this is great! we are small indie studio working our first IP, its mecha theme! This is great videos!
Thank you for featuring Riverside Minis! Thery have been my go to for Tau infantry and I don't mess with anything else.
cool video!
Excellent video brother! Your production quality is just leaps and bounds ahead
I actually just finished 3d printing off the same models for a combat patrol video yesterday so great minds think alike.. Although your mind thought of it a whole month or 2 before me 😂😂
Oh wow this comment section has a celebrity appearance, very cool
sick video
3Ds Max was my first 3D program.
Needed a tamyia filler or similar before painting, seriously don't underestimate how ez is to get rid of print lines on flat pannels.
Great video, you got a viewer....also, you sound a lot like Guy from midwinter minis. lol
Thanks for the mech theme and for introducing us to Piper, very slick mech designs. Looking forward to seeing more of her content.
Yuss!! Another video from my favourite hand model
😂
Really cool Video! Interviewing the artists behind 3D printable Miniatures is such a nice concept. Ever considered to interview Mezgike?
impeccable
awesome video. Thanks for creating it
Thanks for a great video, and very timely as I am working on a PiperMakes squad. May I ask what airbrush that is you’re using? I like the look of that trigger grip!
you are absolutely a rising star my guy. I think printing is the future of wargaming and it's up to us to change the culture and take control of "the hobby"
Idea: Make one of the Christmas battleboxes before they release. (Or make a rivalling one eg. not Beast Snagga orks)
It's interesting, I came from the opposite direction, 3dsmax, brush, etc. I started 3d printing from 3ds to cura and that was a nightmare.. you get just no tools really for scale, so you're matching up parts, holes, etc to primitives with specifically set sizes.... It was actually nice coming to fusion once I learned some of it. It sucked that I wasted 4 years in college learning 3ds... But aw well... Who knew cad was gonna be what I'd want.
Heygears makes a gorgeous printer, but As for the washing station from heygears, I'd go for the automatic wash and cure station from anycubic. It's the one I bought, and i modded it to have a way to disable autocure after washing so you can dry and separate things. I'll have a video up on the mod whenever I get done editing it together, but honest to God it's just adding a switch to the power of the LEDs... Interrupting a wire with a switch soldered in. Lol.
As far as it goes regarding that horrible company that refuses to play nice screw em. They don't get to tell us what we can and can't play with. The way we beat them, honestly, is just playing using printed models, and allowing printed armies in the game, because screw em. 😊
Remeshing allows you to create a clean mesh flow when you've given it a pretty badly designed mesh which is mostly important for rendering and game design. The modifier stack is like the order of operations thing at the bottom of the fusion window to some degree but mixed with the thing blender copied from it for their modifiers. 😂 (3ds was wayyyyy early with it)
How do you spot inconsistencies and potential failures with clear resin? Seems like a bad idea to me, I always use grey.
These prints are amazing. I’ve been looking for good uniques / proxies for Infinity N4, these Tau are possibilities.
To avoid the company that shall not be named, could you look at Infinity Code One / N4? Fits the ascetic you’re going for.
Drinking game: Drink anytime says "Yeah" in this video. XD
damn those sculpts during cloaking look amazing, i would have used transparent resin aswell and kept it transparent on the edges and blended a bit of the actual armor color near the armor
sweet
but i don't collect tau sadly
Awsome
Bunnings Supa Glue is the GOAT
Did you get a chance to try out the auto supports in the slicer?
This is really nice to hear, just hearing the maker
cool!
what glue are you using for the resin builds ?
Got recommended this video via TH-cam, probably because I really like Pipers designs. Cannot lie, Piper’s products kinda make me want to learn CAD. First steps first steps.
Quite literally bought my first, FIRST printer for these models… man I need to get back to printing.
audio montage is awesome! really "mixed up" :D
