- In this video I review my top 5 favorite 3d printable miniature creators based on 10 different categories! I created this to help you determine which 3d creators on Patreon you should go with in 2024! Which one will come out on top!

My favorite creator is Artisan Guild. Love the style. I also really like Clay Beast Creation.
Thanks! I will check out Clay Beast Creations. I do have some Artisan Guild sculpts and I agree, they have a pretty cool aesthetic! I just don't have enough experience with htem to include them in a video yet.
Artisan Guild has been my go to also. They have their own unique style but i find that style to be great for printing. Loot studios exact scale just was too annoying when trying to remove supports much like proxyhobby mentioned. I have had 0 issues scaling up or down AG model with supports.

I love Bestiarum! Loot studio is great but they over support half of their figures which cost me time again to support it myself. I supported them for a long time, but stopped not to long ago.

I've been subscribed to you for a long time love the vibes my only gripe would be that I upscale most stuff or else certain things are quite hard to paint because they lean more to true scale miniatures.

Good video and i liked that you added the 'Moneyball' element with how many of the Miniatures you had actually finished, that was a fantastic touch. I must say of your Picks only Titan Forge appeals to me, minis kinda have to be Heroic scale for me, it's a dealbreaker tbh. Some of the others would be good for awesome statues or props to add flavour to your TTRPG setup though. From my own research i prefer the plainer less busy look of something like Highland Miniatures, to me they really 'Get It' when it comes to mini design.

Awesome video! For some more suggestions I recommend checking out Mammoth Factory, Fleshcraft Studios and Dragon Trappers Lodge. They all contain great content for both wargaming and dnd. Also as a few have already mentioned, One Page Rules do excellent minis and is a great game to play. Funnily enough the 3 creators I mentioned have made armies with compatible rules for One Page Rules which is really cool.

Great honest reviews and have to agree that Bestiarum and Archvillan make fantasically detailled and unique sculpts which I love to paint. Then if I want wargaming figures I move over to OPR andTitan Forge but for a 40K theme I definately recommend Ghamak and Stationforge. I have tried loot studios once and will probably do so again now that I've invested in a larger printer with a bigger build plate as the statue prints do look tempting.

For me, it is One Page Rules. I used to be big into WHFB, and tried 40K, but found it to be unbalanced, and not fun. OPR’s rules make wargaming fun again, and I love all the miniatures they have produced. Particularly their Robot Legions, which are one of their first armies to be released. The detail is fine, and the minis look great. I don’t like some of their supported minis, as I have been unable to get successful prints on several models, but have had great results when doing my own supports.

Artisan Guild and One Page Rules have been the GOAT for me for wargaming, and Hero Forge is amazing for D&D.

For my money it's Loot. Yes, supports are jank (but the claim in the discord is they're addressing it, and their most recent pack did have better supports than they have in the past). But outside that point, they provide everything I'm looking for: 5e compatible minis that have a realistic enough look, excellent value for money, a dang good welcome pack, loyalty program (which tbf is being redone, not a clue how it'll work after), and by and large the company themselves have been great for support tickets if the need arises. While I'm subbed to Cyberforge as well, Titan Forge has just never caught my eye with any of their sets. /shrug

@@proxyhobby No worries--now, bear in mind, they still ain't Atlas supports. They're still in need of some work, but far far less than they did (like the pirate captain's sword always breaking in Ship Ahoy! because the terrible supports).

I really like PrintMinis, but I am bias as their work aligns with what I was playing and building at the time. They have a good mix of terrain and units that keeps me interested.

You should definitely create a video to spread some love for some smaller creators too - maybe even a series of videos where you review several smaller creators at once? All of your picks in this video are mostly big studios with at least several people involved. Eg. Titan Forge is a huge player who already went with physical miniatures. At the same time, there is a lot of very talented artists who really deserve some attention too - eg. people like Tytantroll, Monster Encounters, Infernal Miniatures, Vae Victis, Digital Taxidermy and many, many more. I'm mentioning this because all of those big studios gather most of the attention (and where attention is - money is as well) while you can grab some awesome (and often cheaper) stuff in different styles from other artists. Those minis can easily supplement each other as there are many similiarities between smaller/bigger artists. I also believe we should support whole scene to keep getting better and better miniatures for all of us. If you'd have decided on making such video series - it would be amazing to see videos about miniature buildings/enviroment artists too!

I've been a member of bestarium for quite a few months now. Going to be running a one shot with their rules next year at my clubs big annual event.

Good choices. I like Puppets War for the designs and the modular flexibility is incredible. Also prefer Heroes Infinite for their designs as proxies and originals. Both are a great value.

@@proxyhobby DM Stash has a nice value to their packages, but I think some of the models are far too fine to print at DnD scale. Also, one or two models from a release will look like a kid designed them.
The list could be expanded also by Mierce Miniatures - they are constantly bringing their resin offer into the STL offer. From the mentioned I remember I was buying printed models only the Bestiarum miniatures - now I remember their name. Thanks! ;)

Not all heroes wear capes. I'm super new to the grimdark fantasy side and I'm really looking for a way to proxy the good guys from the cities.
I totally agree...in fact, I enjoy the antihero archetype quite a lot. 😀 Do you have a particular city that interests you? I'm assuming you're referring to cities of sigmar, each city potentially has a different aesthetic based on it's lore...
It is really hard to choose the "best", but I have printed and painted the most from Titan Forge. Some people complain their style is too "cartoony" or not enough details, but once painted, every one of the Titan Forge minis sings IMO. They look amazing for both display and on the table. My focus is D&D and enjoying painting as a hobby, so that would also skew my opinion.

dude, awesome line up, I buy a lot from the creators that you mentioned, shame you didn't seem to have artisans guild in there as well though, as I find Beastarium, Archvillian and Artisans guild to be the best of all the creators out there, but none the less, pretty solid line up.

Are these all resin, or can you do FDM?
All these creators focus on sculpting for resin miniatures. FDM is getting better all the time but I think the detail wouldn't translate over well. I've been looking into possibly creating a video about creators who focus on FDM but it's been tough.

I've been subscribed to Loot for over a year now and while I haven't been able to use many of the models for my DnD campaign lately (we put it on hold after one of the players became a dad and unfortunately the campaign was in the middle of his character arc :/), they're still great for painting. When we still played regularly, I used the releases as a starting point for my writing process. Got through a Feywild Unseelie arc utilizing the Tangleheart Forest release, Werewolf arc with the Nighthunters and an arc where the party had to decide between two warring factions using the Crusade of Darkness. There's also the occasional model that I can use as a wargaming proxy, like Odiram, Lord of Rage as a StD Daemon Prince or the Vine Ogre, Treant & Verdant King from the 2021 Oasis pack as Treelords for my Sylvaneth army.
I have never had an issue with removing supports, like at all. Not a single model I've printed has failed and the supports were not particularly hard to remove.
I got a free month of Titanforge minis but I didn't really like most of the minis from that month, nor do I find any of their RPG releases particularly interesting. There's the occasional cool model though and I've been eying some of their wargaming releases for Warhammer: The Old World.
For LotP, I've purchased a few individual models because they fit my need for some Blades of Khorne mortals (and Warriors of Chaos for Old World). I really, really enjoy the sculpts but the supports are HORRENDOUS. Severely undersupported, as confirmed by many printers on different communities on Discord. I've talked with some people that even dropped the merchant tier because the effort of fixing the presupports just wasn't worth it.
Archvillain and Bestiarum I haven't tested yet but the models look top notch for both. My group is currently planning a warhammer vacation where we play an escalation campaign starting with 1250pts the first day and ending with 2000pts on the last. Bestiarum has some interesting models I'm considering for my Beasts of Chaos for that.
But there's also Clay Beast Creation, who has almost every BoC unit covered with the "Fallen Beasts" releases. I really enjoy their sculpts and use many of the Grove Guardians for my Sylvaneth army. Would be nice to have an entirely coherent army from a single sculptor and unfortunately, the Bestiarum grimdark style would probably clash a bit stylistically.

What resin do you use when you print miniatures?
These days I'm pretty much been using only Elegoo 8K standard or 8K water washable resin in Space Grey. Thanks for asking!
@@proxyhobby Oh nice. I will try that on my Saturn 8k. Been using Anycubic normal resin so far (Had an Anycubic Photon S as first printer, do not like how brittle the resin is when i make minis on my elegoo). Been wanting to change to some water based that dosent stink so much when printing. 😀👌
@@TB1439 I haven noticed that the 8k resin seems to be more durable... but I also make sure to cure my mini's very slowly. Often times I just leave them out on the drying mat and the indirect sunlight coming in will eventually cure them, just takes a while but I find that it makes the resin much stronger that way. I think the fast/long cure just makes it brittle....I had a lot of issues with Elegoo's original water washable resin being really weak so I made those changes. I'm not sure I notice much of a difference in the smell between water washable resin versus standard resin though. 😒

Had a go on Archvillian but the delicate models i printed with their Supports killed my Joy.
I am a really Big Fan of Witchsong, Artisan Guild and White Werewolf Tavern.

WWT delicate supports doesn't kill your joy too? Love their designs, hate printing them.
@@AustinLindstrom they are not as bad as Arch Villian in my Opinion but for WWT i usually just Print the 75mm and Busts

Thank you for the video. I think overall there are a lot of great points and information.
In regards to Quality / Style and Originality, this is truly Eye of the Beholder territory. I look at Arch Villain, which only exists to be Warhammer proxies, as completely unoriginal. They and Bestarium designs just seem to be stuff on stuff on fine unpaintable / unimportant details on spikes on more stuff, whereas someone like Cripta (very small, I believe defunct), had really original / out of the box designs. I have no Wargaming interest, so that's probably where and why our paths diverge.
I also wish some of these guys would tone the Bases down a bit. Some of them can be resin-heavy, and when those fail, it hurts. Print usable bases for the pose given, and maybe give the end user more flexibility with how they want to finish it?

I'll see if I can find Cripta, but you're right, I think I lean a little more towards wargaming than RPG's, but I do print for both. As far as the bases, I usually don't print out the base that mini comes with and prefer to create my own, that way I can put that mini in whatever world I want. 😀
For me Artisan Guild is the best in the business and it's not close. Loot's sculpts have gotten better and better, but like you said the minis are so realistically proportioned that they don't translate well to the smaller scale and their supports leave tons of cleanup to do. Titan Forge is maybe my second though. For similar reasons to why I like AG: the details don't get lost from the sculpt to the print and they're very painter friendly.
I do have some Artisan Guild sculpts, I just don't have a ton of experience printing them....I'll have to give them more of a shot! I totally agree with you on Titan Forge! Thanks for the feedback! 🤘

Bestiarum are my favourites then Arch Villian out if thr ones you showed. I have been with them for slmost 3 years. These sre perfect Grimdark fantasy I love them and I love the Forbidden Psalm stuff they do. I am going to be tsking some of their 5th ed stuff and using the ideas for Mork Borg!! I was with Arch Villian ages ago but dropped them along with ithers because i was soending to much and it was tough to oick 😭

I love Warhammer Fantasy Lore. I love wargaming. I hate putting models together or painting them. I hate paying GW's prices. I'm currently trying to find somewhere where I can buy models to use as proxies for The Old World. Any recommendations?
I do... I'm actually working on a video right now about proxies for old world. I'm going to focus on Bretonnia first and I'm using Titan Forge models. Specifically I'm looking at the Kingdom of Equitaine releases.... sshhhhh.... keep it secret, keep it safe. 😝

I’m the kind of person that jumps from a creator to the other depending on the month. Lately I am often supporting archvillain games, but historically Lotp has been my jam…their models are just gorgeous and fun to paint. That been said, I rarely support a creator more than 2/3 months a year! There is too much good stuff out there to limit myself 🤣

Don't have too use anything...though I have noticed different resins and supports can make it seem harder

@@proxyhobby I've printed hundreds of Loot models. Their supports have gotten way better. They still use a lot, but the connect point is finer. Releases this year print and remove like a dream. I'm sure it depends on how well calibrated ones machine is, but they are my go-to for In-House. Sadly, and really Stupidly, they don't have a Commercial License.

@@proxyhobbyYes they have pretty much done the entire heroquest line, they did last month a promo for all subscribers where they gave out 3 entire boxes of proxies with the miniautures, I think they may do it again this month, but it was a sweet deal, 100 miniatures for 10 dollars.

hi, interesting video, but I have to ask: Why did you give a full 5 to Wargaming. I watched the pictures on your video and glanced over their MMF store, but I have a hard time identifying proxies for Warhammer. I mean, surely you can go as far and tell that a 3D printed Monster is a stand-in for a Tyranid Monster or a Megasquig or whatever, but when me or an opponent look at a Mini, the reaction to a 3D printed piece should be "ohh, you play X and that is surely your Y mdeol". And I do not get that from your pictures or their MMF collections. (Yes, you showed some Zombies or Skeletons but tbf, everyone has those)

The first is that for my rating system, I was giving 5 points to the best out of the 5 creators that I was reviewing so someone was going to get 5 points. None of these creators were obviously going to be better than creators that create mainly to proxy from 40K or others like One Page Rules were they heavily borrow from concepts from GW but by way of the rating system they were the best of the choices available. If I were straight rating 1-5 none of these creators would have rated too high. The second part is that these are all fantasy based subs so I was focusing on mostly Age of Sigmar, and other fantasy wargames. For instance, you can check out this video that I put out th-cam.com/video/D2D26IcQutQ/w-d-xo.html where I was able to create a 2000 point Beasts of Chaos army using just Bestarium models. They also have a perfect army proxy for Conquest: The Last Argument of Kings. So, if you have 40K filter on when looking then I would 100% agree with you. Please guess which miniature line I'm totally unfamiliar with? Yep, AoS/WHFB Chaos, so no wonder I couldn't make any connection. I will gladly watch your Chaos video. By any chance, have you seen the Doom Miniature by Nocturna models KS last year? I backed them for exactly this, 3D printing AoS Chaos (obviously I have not yet come around to it or have put any more thoughts into it, until now. But I will gladly consider bolster the ranks with Bestarium minis as well, if I come to it). Thanks again!
I like some of these. AV games has issues with overly detailed miniatures making them a chore to paint. LOTP supports are good but multi part monsters don't assemble without gaps without support rework. I just got some Loot studio kaiju models but I haven't printed it yet. Never printed bestiarium, Titan forge, and loot.

The problem with Bestiarum is that their models are just too thin and can easily chip. In my opinion Archvillain and Loot Studios seem to be the best when it comes to the balance between realistic as well as durable miniatures.

Hi, on the whole I can only agree with these choices, in fact I follow 4 of the 5 proposed in your selection and that's no mean feat, I also consider them to be among the best. The only downside would be that having 4 subscriptions on this site plus all those on other sites is extremely expensive, in fact I did not take any subscription for any of these designers, I prefer to buy pieces one by one depending on the affinity I feel with it and I have a soft spot for Lord of The Print and Archvilain who are certainly for me the two best and I buy at least one of their pieces each month.

Beastarium are great sculptors but I’m personally not a fan of the horror theme so I stopped buying there stuff a couple of years ago (their minotaurs are the best though), you should ditch Loot and get Artisan Guild. Well, there’s loads of good creators out there (one page rules, white werewolf, highland miniatures, cobra mode, Signum workshop, STL miniatures, the Dragon Trappers lodge, Cast n Play, etc). Hands down winner for me are Titan Forge, consistently great sculpts, useful, and they are made for miniature painters with enough detail but not silly amounts.

Mierce (beautiful minis I could never afford as resin) and infinite heroes (always look at the modular terrain and the troops if nothing else) both deserve a commendation
I use a lot of Bestiarium warped/tortured/cannibal peasants painted as zombies/ghouls for my undead army, so much more dark character than ubiquitous zombies and painting them is a joy not a chore
Previously they made a lot of releases as parts so you could build a whole army, well worth buying on sale to fill the virtual bits drawer.
Lord of the print make the best reptilian humanoids, beautiful
Archvillain make some beautiful individual sculpts but I haven't seen a release I'd print many of in near a year.
I don't have any patience with Loot and their release vids are painful
I've got a bunch of Titan forge very easy to paint and get on the table

HAHA! And a nerdy greeting to you as well! Yeah, that's a tough one. Cyberpunk models tend to be very character driven which doesn't lend itself well to modularization. If you are a painter, titan forge is 100% better. The "lack" of detail is just good places for people to actually paint with regular paints and not just contrast paints and dry brushing.

Yeah, going back over the rankings I was too. Honestly, I don't feel like that's a knock on Loot Studios as much as it is a testament to how many great miniature sculptors there are out there. I think maybe the reason I ranked them lower than the others is that b/c of their more realistic approach with proportions a lot of their mini's don't "stand out" as much, and lead to a lot of very similar sculpts.

As an old school high fantasy D&D, Everquest, Dragon Age, Baldur's Gate, etc fan I personally love the more realistic style of high fantasy since it fits my preferences far better than the more exaggerated slightly more cartoony/comic book styles. All preference. All why games like WoW never won me over and D&D will always be special to me.
@@M4ttNet My background is grounded in D&D as well. I started playing when I was a kid so I get it. In more recent years I've been into Warhammer quite a lot which I steered clear from when I was younger so maybe that has made an impact on how I view miniatures. 🤷♂
@@proxyhobby Yeah, I dig the Warhammer style even if it's not my goto. I've always been curious on firing up Warhammer. It's great that their are so many good mini file subs out there to be able to nit pick such individual style preferences. All of these are so much better than t hose box'd D&D mini's that you probably also played with for many years.

Raging heroes is another one of those companies that does not use MMF and have some interesting offerings.
In your ratings, about the only thing I'd have added is 'paintability'. You touched on it briefly with Titan Forge in terms of how complex the minaitures are to paint. Having a thousand belt buckles, daggers, hoops, chains, etc... does not make your miniature inherently better as all of those things must be painted.

"Best" is always going to be a personal opinion. They're all pretty good based on what you're looking for, but none of them have everything everyone wants for their games.
I will completely agree with that. I'm sure there are those who will disagree with my ratings and have their own preferences which is why I'm psyched that people are chiming in with their opinions and which creators they love! 🤘

I love these sculpters they're so impossibly detailed that they're practically impossible to paint at tabletop 32mm scales. Display piece scale only. Titan forge is the only exception to this.
For sure, they are all great! That level of detail seems to have been set as the bar thanks to Games Workshop...
100% agree with this. Some sculpts are too detailed and lean into true scale making all the litle details even barely visible when painting or breaking too easy. I've stopped supporting archvillain games and loot studios because of this and titan forge is my most used provider. Bestiarum is too cool and up my style to give up so I just hope thar they will lean into heroic scale a tad more so it becomes a better painting experience.
Love Loot works but the fact they are a brazilian studio and completely ignores the brazilian market, is sad. Even force some BR painters to post videos in english only when working with them.

@@proxyhobby fair warning to Infinite Heroes, the old releases aren't that great from a quality point of view. The modern ones (lets say 2023 and end of 2022) are much better.
