@@devanduckworth5709 if i remember correctly, he has and had various project vw's, from corrados to golfs and tbh there's high chances he had to turn a wrench on them, it seems more like a lack of confidence working on cars because of the fear of not being able to fix it due to low budget problems than inexperience.
The closest he could get to a 2000cc with an A series engine would be a bored and stroked 7AFE with a 4AGE black top head. But let's not get into details, he got an engine into a car and that's more than i can do now
Things I learned while doing my first engine swap. 1. Either buy a used engine or a crate motor 2. spend a little more and get the beefier parts 3. paint the engine bay 4.check smog laws before you start 5. If your car is over 40 years old redo the wiring 6. It's incredibly satisfying the first time it starts
The way James keeps voicing his regret about not painting the engine bay is the way my mind keeps reminding me of so many cringe-worthy moments in my life that I regret.
I really hope he paints it some bright colour and not black like the car itself, the black red mismathc it has now looks sweet as is and a brighter colour would be sick!

Money pit is such a great addition to Donut, Zach is great at going over 'basic' stuff that DIY guys might have a hard time coming by. He goes in depth just enough on pretty much everything, so it stays interesting and people learn from it. If I was still starting out I would be devouring these videos.

Y'all inspired me a long time ago to turbo my 2.4 Dart... I've got about 13k in parts sitting in my room and in shipping right now. In the next month or so my car will be pushing 300whp at the least, more than double stock power. I did hundreds of hours of research and spent measured every aspect of the engine bay- even 3D modeled the whole engine. Designed my entire turbo setup myself and am going to be running a Frankenstein of parts, cst4 for a mazdaspeed3, water air intercooling, meth kit, auxiliary oil system, built trans, big tires, the whole works. Channels like yours inspire me every day to keep wrenching, building, and designing :D

As a previous owner of two AE86, one 16v, the other 20v... that 20v awakens the car like the true monster it should be. Such a great car. I need another one someday.
Would love to see more of this project I love ITBs! I installed some AE101 silvertop ITBs on my miata recently. Opted not to tune on TPS alone like many others do for the lack of versatility and instead decided to figured out how to run on speed density (MAP). I configure my own vacuum system that behaved similar to stock and the car runs like a dream and I was able to actually use my previous stock tune with simple tweaks to fuel load. It runs very smooth and feels surprisingly "factory". Only really mentioned all that in the off chance someone who is in the middle of or wants to install some ITBs reads this and knows it's possible and was actually a pretty simple setup. A vacuum block a couple check valves and some hose and done. Just gotta configure it right.
Money Pit is probably my favorite series on the channel with Up to Speed coming in at a close second. The explanations in Money Pit are pretty darn simple and make seemly hard wrenching easy to understand

I just bought a B5 S4 to replace the one I had to sell 10 years ago and I ran into a guy at the pick a part yard who is a guru and has the knowledge and a lot of parts that I need to make my ride right. So grateful for the cool people in the car community.
Its the 3sge beams blacktop that is 2.0 liter and had 16 valve the 4a ge blacktop is correct 1.6 liter 20 valves. But some use the itb from 4age blactop on the blacktop beams.
@@terjejohnsen3651 3S is always the correct swap on a 4cyl Toyota. I run the 3S-GTE variety on two of mine. The BEAMS is the go-to for NA HP, though. No doubt.

The only engine swap I've done was on a '69 Chevelle when I was like 22 or 23 in the year 2000. Also of note is I did the whole thing by myself with nothing but a Chilton book for help. It came with a 307 with a 2 bbl carburetor. I put in a 350 with a 4bbl carb and aluminum intake. It was pretty fast but I couldn't afford to really keep up with it and I didn't know a lot of things I needed to to tune it properly. Also it got about 12-14 mpg.
As soon as James was like "Time to start it!" I thought to myself, but wait....they didn't say they put gas in the car.....and they they forgot to put gas in the car lol

The only engine swap I've done was on a '69 Chevelle when I was like 22 or 23 in the year 2000. Also of note is I did the whole thing by myself with nothing but a Chilton book for help. It came with a 307 with a 2 bbl carburetor. I put in a 350 with a 4bbl carb and aluminum intake. It was pretty fast but I couldn't afford to really keep up with it and I didn't know a lot of things I needed to to tune it properly. Also it got about 12-14 mpg.
