  • Lots of car carriers shipping many vehicle from the shipping lot. Foundation for a new transformer is being built at the Transmission Line Switchyard. Plenty of work on the cooling towers today.

1:55. Southend, south. East Fire Escape Passage. Black membrane half folded/blown off the passage roof.
2:48. Southend, east. Right of centre, under the incomplete mezzanine, one of the green chiller units.
Speculating the previously identified plate heat-exchangers are in fact plate filters. Trying to understand why heat-exchangers would be needed at this early stage. Connection is also by flexible pipe/hose.
Left. Remainder of Southend generally empty.
3:01 Southend, Cooling Tower. Apron paving rebar placed. Grade works to north complete.
3:50 Sand Hil Lateral Pipeline project. South east side. Some metering/control valves perhaps.
4:50. River Road, west. Ductbank works veer away from the road.
5:43. Westside, triangular storage. 39 Prolec transformers. No change.
6:02. Westside, storage. South pond. Constructing a flow spreader structure. Same as the EOL north pond at 6:44.
10:22. Hawk in flight. Good catch.
11:20. Main Entrance, Flagpoles. From google earth the flagpoles are spaced at around 75’ 22.9m. Flags scaled against a Cybertruck from Joe’s photos Monday, are 35’ x 65’ 10.66m x 19.8m.
12:11. Battery, north. Loading platform. Lightweight black frames being hoisted to Level 3.
13:06. Casting, diagonal corner. Bottom. Vacuum excavation.
13:25. Casting, Baghouse. Bottom left. Much larger diameter pipe installed.
14:21. New Switchyard/Substation. 3rd transformer footing. Initial slab concrete placed. Shuttering assembly for the catch-basin walls.
To the right, red marked locations for drilled pile shafts.

Dessie, plate heat-exchangers and fouling/debris/corrosion products are not a happy marriage. The grooves and plates are a tight fit in such exchangers and blocking channels occurs very easily. Then the pressure can build up locally and before you know it there is a dripping leak. The pressure in such exchangers is contained via packings around the circumference of the plates and that is prone to leaks even in the best of circumstances. If I recall that special message about a Patent to optimize energy consumption in a datacenter setup I think the cooling tower water circuit exchanges heat with a set of primary exchangers and/or goes partially to the cooling side of the chillers. So I think that both plate exchangers and the green chillers will be permanent. The thing that still has me stumped is the absence of the BIG pumps necessary to move the cooling water through the massive pipes. If the cooling water circuit goes mainly to the plate xchangers then by right we should be able to spot those pumps, but so far, no show. Maybe they will still be installed under the CT (the most logical place to put them by a long margin) but the construction needs to be completed first before the pumps can be placed. A pump can be pre-assembled on iots steel base plate in the factory, including all the auxiliaries, so that can proceed very quickly.
In a way it is really stretching engineering experience with cooling towers to connect them to plate exchangers. The silt and growth products that will build up on the bottom of the basins needs to be stirred and moved by special water jets... then it needs to be filtered out VERY carefully if the plate exchangers have any chance to function reliably. Because of the need for 24/7 cooling it seems odd to take these risks with plate exchangers.

    Substation expansion:
@ 14:18 First concrete pour for the transformer pad is complete.
To the right.... Circles marked in red are likely areas that will be drilled for concrete piles. Which will support other associated structures. If you look west you can see what needs to be duplicated here.
Note: Everything to the right (north) of the transformer pad is High voltage 345 kV. Everything to the left (south) is medium voltage 34.5 kV or 24.9 kV.
    Cooling tower:
@ 3:12 and 3:17 Good close up view of the east side.
    Sand Hill project:
@ 3:50 Good view of the far southeast end of the project. It will be interesting to see what they connect to here and on the north end.
@ 11:13 Trenched portion of the pipeline just before it will go into a 905' long bore under the power poles and duct-banks.
    Highway widening:
    @10:14 Progress on 973.

Levelled area just north of the cooling plant is just asking for castings.

I often think Tesla places castings in open, undeveloped but levelled areas to compact the soil!

Not that hard to build a place for castings, or at least create a designated area for them and stack them neatly. But it seems like they would rather just toss them haphazardly allover creation making the place look like a garbage dump!

When are we going to see Semis hauling cars and components to and from Giga Texas? I'm looking forward to that.

Thanks Brad. 5:07 River Road security checkpoint, is that 2 rows of solar panels in the blocked left turn lane next to the security hut? Seems like a good idea to cut down on the the diesel used in generators Tesla has running all over the site.
