    I also got a good chuckle out of Walter literally jumping for joy! One thing to note: the Bolts will need to go to the dealer to get a software update to work at the Tesla chargers. So that isn’t very convenient but may be worth it for many people.

      According to an official GM blog post from today on their website, only “Select Bolt EVs (mostly MY19 and MY20) may require a software update to ensure seamless charging at a Tesla Supercharger,” ... “Those customers can order a GM approved NACS DC adapter through their GM vehicle brand apps and contact their Chevrolet dealership to schedule this complimentary software update.”

  • @doncooper2344
    @doncooper2344 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

    Great that GM has finally gotten access to the SCs. Will make life easier when on a road trip. The remaining issue is that the SCs which tend to be where there aren't other DC chargers are the earlier versions which don't support NACS.
    Turning the dispensers is ingenious. It can't solve the issue of taking up two spaces -- assuming there isn't another vehicle that can't deal with that -- but it will solve the issue of the cord being too short. The SCs are very picky about the cord being under load, leaving you no choice other than to park sideways (which always works).

    • @thenetworkarchitectchannel
      @thenetworkarchitectchannel  16 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      sideways is a last choice of desperation for me. Hopefully it never comes to that.

    • @doncooper2344
      @doncooper2344 12 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      @@thenetworkarchitectchannel When there are many spaces available, as was the case in your video, it's not big deal. Assuming the other vehicles are Teslas, you're taking two spaces either way, but parking sideways eliminates all issues with the short cords. I suspect the short cords will frequently be a problem for the Lyric given its hood is on the longer side, pushing the charge port further from the charging stand. Not being able to use a SC because the cord doesn't reach isn't an imaginary problem.
      Note that the idea of "taking two spaces" isn't valid if all the other vehicles aren't Teslas. When all the different makes of EVs have access to the SCs it's going to be a bit of a mess.

    I love the front mounted charge port on my Kona EV. I use the EA network when traveling mostly. They usually have two sideways mounted chargers. I just pull straight in, it doesn't matter which side the charger is on. If the front charger is busy, then I back in. Some people don't like the looks of the front charge point. I don't care, I'd rather have the convenience.

      I do and don’t like how GM does the (blank) miles per hour on the dash inside the car, but to check the actual KwH you have to check the charger which you obviously can’t do on a Tesla. But I’ve been able to Max my Lyriq charging speeds on other DC fast chargers, of course my battery was much lower than yours was when you began charging which allows for more speed. I just wanted to see how fast you can go on a SC.
      Are Tesla SC’s rated for different KwH like other dc fast chargers? What was the one you were using rated at?

    Thanks, Walter! I'm surprised Ultium EVs don't have plug and charge on the Superchargers, especially since it took so long to gain access. I know that one issue GM has had is with CPOs demanding too much access to GM's IP and customer information. I wonder whether that is tied to their reluctance to activate plug and charge despite Ultium supporting ISO 15118.

    Plug and charge protocol uses certificate exchange for authentication and is more secure then auto charge which matches the MAC address of the vehicle with the stored payment method. Some vehicles don’t have a fixed MAC address and can’t use auto charge. And nefarious tech savvy people can spoof the MAC address of a vehicle so it appears on the network and chargers as someone else’s vehicle. So don’t expect Tesla to ever support this method of charging.

    Nice video. You should let your videos know that with the Tesla membership, $12.99 for a month, you get significantly cheaper prices. So that .58 cents is .46 cents per kW for example. And if plan your charging a little bit, the .38 cents per kW becomes around .27 cents, and so forth. So if you're on a road trip, pay for it for that month. It usually pays for itself after 1 or 2 charges at the most.

    Must be nice to have a Tesla Supercharger site every 20-30 miles available to you. Here in the middle of the country, in Oklahoma, there is only ONE Supercharger site in the entire western half of the state, on I-40 at Weatherford. And of course, this Supercharger is only a V2, so it cannot be upgraded with Magic Dock or use by non-Tesla vehicles. It is 265 miles north to the next one located on I-70 at Hays, Kansas. Or 120 miles south to the next one on US 287 in Texas. We are going to take a trip from Woodward, OK up to Dodge City, KS this weekend, 114 miles. There is no way we can take our EV on this weekend jaunt because there is no place to charge in western Kansas except along I-70 way up north. This same situation exists up and down the middle of the country, as Supercharger sites are ONLY located along Interstates, with not a one located on a US or State highway of any kind.
