China regulation on products/companies is half political in nature and half driven by strategic goals. They let Toyota/Honda in years ago to absorb ICE technology but they no longer care because they are the ones driving the front on EV. Anyone who has basic understanding of ICE vs EV knows it's drastically different. It's an obvious conclusion by looking at how Tesla is driving legacy makers out of business because legacy makers can't easily convert from ICE to EV. It's almost a totally different ball game. Amateur uneducated commenters are always acting like legacy makers can easily bridge the gap between ICE and EV. It's not that easy. The reality is, Chinese government wanted their own industry to be competitive so they let Tesla in. Tesla basically bankrupted some of the EV startups in China and it was designed that way to weed out the weaker players. Now the ones that survived like BYD are making very competitive vehicles. Again, here is where amateur uneducated commenters keep flowing in and trying to bash the Chinese EV the same way they bashed Toyota in 70's and Hyundai in 90's. As a European, I have no problem to buy a Chinese car if the ration price:quality is satisfying. In my opinion the tariffs are not fair. Why don’t we increase the tariffs for Tesla too?
Tesla has similar labor prices as Europe, and the USA buys a lot of European cars. Tesla's fair competition; the Chinese EV makers are playing a different game.
Chinese made Tesla cars would be affected. A long with German brand cars made in China. Not only are they exporting cars. They are exporting unemployment to
There are several problems considering batteries: How to get affordable parts for repairs? How to insurance EV in the future? Where to park EV? EV:s are subsidied, but new batteries aren't. It would be more affordable to buy a new car than change batteries. Therefore used EV:s are worthless. The quality of Chinese batteries insulation is poor. Batteries will burn in crashes or even when you are charging them. Unlike petrol fire, battery fire is impossible to put off and will burn everything and even wounded people inside the car. Insurance costs will be very expensive and there will be restrictions where EV:s are even allowed to drive. Chinese EV:s are cheap, because making them poisons environment. Using western petrol cars would be better for environment than using Chinese batteries. This is the big white elephant everyone is pretending not to see.
Of course you always have to consider your own interests. There are a lot of tariffs between EU and USA as well. Nothing new. Also China is way more protective of it's own industry. those are two different things, but yes it's both called a subsidy. the thing how you got a discount is when a government (or another entity) wants to encourage something and offers the people money back when they do what is encouraged. the thing that is against trade rules and what china does is having companies sell their products on the international market for prices below the costs of making it, and then the chinese state pays those companies so those companies still make a profit. in the long term this isn't sustainable, but the idea behind it is to destroy competitors abroad and take over their market share, and once you have a monopoly you can raise the prices and you don't need those state subsidies anymore

Literally every country subsidizes some particular industries. Banks, airlines, housing, agriculture, mining, energy.... etc. It's only cheating when it's done by a country the west doesn't like >.>
I am from China, actually the subsidies ended in 2023, now the gov only subsidize the local customers who buy EV, not the enterprise. For new energy passenger vehicles with a purchase price below 150000 yuan, the subsidy amount is 10% of the purchase price. For new energy passenger vehicles with a purchase price between 150000 yuan and 300000 yuan, the subsidy amount is 8% of the purchase price. For new energy passenger vehicles with a purchase price of over 300000 yuan, the subsidy amount is 6% of the purchase price. This adjustment enables the subsidy policy to more accurately cover different price ranges of car models, meeting the purchasing needs of different consumers. In addition, the subsidy policy for new energy vehicles in 2024 also clarifies the subsidy targets, time frame, and application process, injecting new impetus into the new energy vehicle market. The subsidy is limited to consumers who purchase new energy passenger cars (excluding second-hand cars) during 2024. At the same time, the policy also stipulates that car buyers must obtain a unified invoice for motor vehicle sales and a motor vehicle driving license within the prescribed time, and promptly handle procedures such as obtaining a motor vehicle registration certificate and vehicle registration to ensure the standardization of the car purchase process and the rights and interests of car buyers. In addition, the subsidy policy for new energy vehicles in 2024 also includes preferential policies for exemption from purchase tax. From January 1, 2024 to December 31, 2025, consumers who purchase new energy vehicles will enjoy the treatment of exemption from vehicle purchase tax. The maximum tax-free limit for each new energy passenger vehicle is 30000 RMB. This policy will effectively reduce the burden of purchasing cars for consumers and enhance the market competitiveness of new energy vehicles. In summary, electric vehicle companies will still enjoy financial subsidies in 2024, and the subsidy policies will be more refined to stimulate the market and promote industrial upgrading.
Do people feel oversmart when they say that China is overproducing? I don't understand how you can say they are overproducing unless they have cars lying in factories that they are unable to sell.

"Chinese intelligence and hardworking culture" - Do you really think that China became the manufacturer of the world because of brilliant domestic engineers? 😂 China became the sweatshop of the world because of intellectual property theft from the western companies outsourcing to China and forcing those companies to partner with local Chinese in joint ventures. I can admit that the western companies coming to China were too naive to believe China would move towards democracy, and probably too focused on short term profits, to take the threat seriously. So in one way they can only blame themselves... The answer to your question of where do all the money that China has poured into its auto/EV industry are coming from, the answer is taxes and corruption. China is a communist dictatorship, and the state controls everything and everyone, so they don't care about if half a billion people in the west of the country barely survives as long as they accomplish the goals of the top leader, for example to build an EV industry of scale in the east. No one can vote them away anyways, and the only route to career is to follow orders without own thinking so in one way it's efficient... That means they can make long term plans too where no time is wasted on endless debating, whereas western decision-makers are much more shortsighted in their efforts to please the masses with populist policies etc.

EU and US manufacturers have been pushed for EVs for over a decade. They manufacturers did nothing and bet on the future of the automitve industry is ICE engines. So they were hit with an ICE ban hammer. That made them wake up, too late, but they have finally woken up. Now, if we are lucky, after the inevitable bloodbath is over, there will be a handful of EU automakers left that are capable of competing. What's really funny about all of this is that the US car makers still seem to be chugging along in near complete oblivion of what is happening in China.
@@badbad-cat is this part of the CCP's Century of Humiliation's playbook? China became competitive by banning foreign EV battery competitors; then forcing all EV OEMs to switch to local battery suppliers; then dominate the battery supply-chain since 2015.
Five years ago Western car makers reassured investors "We won't be left behind in EVs! We'll be a major player," and came out with $45,000+ crossovers. But they and their crummy dealers never really sold customers on the benefits of an EV because they still have showrooms full of gassers to sell. Now that their competition is making $30,000 and under EVs, they're crying that it's hard.
Wait, what is fair and what is not? China's strength is based on its labor, and it uses the money it earned through its labor to help its industry. On the other hand, the United States relies on the hegemony of the dollar. When needed, the United States prints the money it needs to help its industry too. And if this increases its debt, the whole world will have to contribute to repay it... Are we sure what is fair and what is not? We talk about dumping if someone sells to the point of harming everyone, including himself. In this case, we must stop it because it is a kind of collective suicide. But if someone is able to sell at a low price without dying himself, by using the money he earned to finance his production tools, then it is just that the others are too expensive. They deserve to go bankrupt. This is how capitalism works: it is not a world of fairies and unicorns. It is the cruel law of the market. What happens if we break these laws? Who is really communist in this game? China, which helps its industry with the money earned by its industry, or the protectionism put in place by Western countries?

Every country in the world subsidizes or incentivizes their companies, one way or another. China didn't 'change the rules' of trade as this Filipe Munoz said alleged at 0:50, China simply started exporting cars, and the so-called 'rules' is actually this: "Hey you are not supposed to be exporting the things that we Europeans export".

Teslas are the safest cars in the world, according to crash tests in the US and Europe. They also have the best tech by far. Every new innovation that Tesla does (no other company innovates much) is copied as quickly as possible by the Chinese. Which won’t do you much good if you get into an accident and your kids die when they would have been safe in a Tesla.

Tariffs are just excuses for protectionism. In the long run, it will erode the competitiveness of the US and EU. At the same time, the people suffer as they are the ones paying for the increased cost. A country that boasted a free market but, in actual fact, has always been doing the opposite.
No point in pretending that China's NEV policies are anything, but protectinoism. In particular, China's practice of banning foreign EV battery competitors, forcing all EV OEMs to switch to local battery suppliers, subsidizing local overcapacity, or flooding markets abroad with export subsidies isn't particularly market-friendly either, much less free-market.

I can guarantee that China is not the only country using subsidies to boost targeted industries. The Chinese just do it a lot better. Beyond that, even if everything were completely equal, China just has economies of scale and supply chain efficiencies that no country can match.

If a country can subsidize so much to an industry, and they don't have a $ printer in the basement, you want to ask, where they got the subsidizing money from ? If what ever industry they get in and they dominated it, why ? Nobody in the video talked about Chinese intelligence and hard-working culture. No matter there will be tariff or not, the Chinese EVs are huge benefit to the western consumers or the government. The analysts in the video are talking to the audience like they are little kids, showing how ignorant they are.
LOL. Please stop this nonsense about Chinese intelligence and 995. China pilfered IP from the Japanes eand Koreans EV battery makers and ban them from local market since 2015 to protect own. Then China forced all foreign EV OEMs to switch to local EV battery makers to corner the entire battery supply-chain which is really what gives Chinese the key advantage they need for competitive advantage in EV.
I don't believe that China has the money to subsidize the global demand for cars.
Obviously, China's high productivity dwarfs western manufacturers.
"Chinese intelligence and hardworking culture" - Do you really think that China became the manufacturer of the world because of brilliant domestic engineers? 😂
China became the sweatshop of the world because of intellectual property theft from the western companies outsourcing to China and forcing those companies to partner with local Chinese in joint ventures.

So the EU politicians went mad, how dare you... beating us in auto industry, besides shirts and socks industry?
But they are selectively ignoring the root cause.
The real reason behind all this, is the hard working, ordinary Chinese people, with high productivity.
All auto manufacturers’ countries subsidized their auto industries. For examples US subsidies its consumers of their EVs through rebates.
EU pushed for EV when its industries were not ready. This is what you call an own goal.
That was over 30 years ago when the EU-0 started.. As a libertarian, I think it's just a terrible idea to shove EVs down everyone's throat, but the EU probably never expected China and their antiompetitive market practices to distort the EV transition. .
