    Very good review and good luck with your channel. Recently bought the Atmos 50 and took it for a 7-8 mile hike yesterday, but total weight was only about 17lbs - I should have loaded it up to about 30-35lbs which would have been a better test as that would be about what I would be using during cold weather backpacking. Funny, met a hiker on the trail and he said "hey nice pack" - he had the 65 and was 'training" for his planned 2021 AT hike and intends to use that pack. He's a seasoned hiker, retired - a few years younger than me (67) and when I commented on my pack being comfortable - but something just didn't feel right, he immediately and correctly diagnosed the problem - the shoulder straps needed to be adjusted via the torso "adjuster." Voila - perfect fit.

      Robert Marino Thanks! Yes this pack is great with all the fine tuning adjustment options to get the perfect fit. Glad it’s working out well for you. Should be great for winter

    Thanks for the review! Picked one up in August for my first "real" backpacking pack and I absolutely LOVE it. It may be a bit big for my 18lb base weight, but I cary alot of water and it handles it very well. Two liters in both side pockets for a total of 4. I use it without the brain but will reconfigure for winter trips and probably add it back on.
    The only 2 cons I really have is the hip pockets can be a pain to zip back up and the pack always wants to fall forward. It needs a kick stand lol.
    It is a great pack and soooo comfortable. So far I have a approx 40 miles in this pack and I am ready for more.

      Jason Tharp awesome! You will enjoy it and super comfortable for the amount of water you haul. If you get a xlite Z-seat from thermarest and strap it’s on to the front where the sleeping pad goes, it should help give the pack a kickstand to be able to stand up.

      @@BackcountryRenegade I have thought of that, but I am a hammock guy and don't use a sleeping pad. I don't use the divider in the main compartment and found that stuffing my underquilt (in a compactor bag not stuff sack) all the way down helps a bit by speading the bottom out more. It in no way takes away from this pack, just one of those things to get use to.

    • @BackcountryRenegade

      Jason Tharp the z-seat is not the full sleeping pad, it is like it but a fraction of the size, meant to be used as a quick seat when you don’t want to sit on wet or rocky stuff. I also use mine outside of the vestibule of my tent for a door mat to put on my shoes so I don’t get the tent dirty inside.

      @@BackcountryRenegade ahhhh ok. We use a similar pad that I hade out of relflectics and some tape. Sit pad, foot pad and due to lack of pillows, a "pad fight" with my wife. For fun of course. I am going to do some rearranging and see how it works. Thanks again!

    Thanks for your video. It was a great explanation of the pack's features. I just bought this in the medium size for the Camino de Santiago that I'll begin this week.

      @gilbertwalker6769 how did the Camino go and how did you find the pack? I just bought the mythical green version 50l so any tips would be great 👍

      @@ibizaamigos Thanks for asking! My Camino experience was really wonderful. I walked the Camino Francés and began in St. Jean. I also bought the green 50l pack and it was very comfortable. I'm glad I bought it. My sleeping bag fit nicely in the back pocket and the backpack was more than adequate. However, I packed more than I needed. And the friend who inspired to walk the Camino, and lives in Pamplona, encouraged me to leave a lot of my stuff at his house and that was a very wise move.
      I began on Oct. 11 and finished on Nov. 13, so the weather got colder as I continued. When are you planning on walking? Which way are you choosing to walk? Buen Camino, Peregrino!

      I forgot to mention that I also bought the rain cover for the backpack, and it came in handy and kept all my gear dry when we had a couple of really rainy days.

      Correction, I bought the 50l blue backpack with the green rain cover.

    Oooops, forgot to mention my only gripe so far - no side access into the pack. I don't know why Osprey choose not to provide zippers to solve that problem/inconvenience. I know pack design will always have some reasons for adding this and eliminating that, but IMHO, having full access is something that is important, I mean adding a zipper or two adds less than an ounce or two. C'mon Asprey!

    • @BackcountryRenegade
      @BackcountryRenegade  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Robert Marino yeah agreed. They decided to save that feature for the Aether series...

    • @robertmarino3341
      @robertmarino3341 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BackcountryRenegade Yep, but my question is why? Side access is only important on packs meant to carry very heavy loads - as opposed to regular heavy loads? Apparently the Atmos is a very popular pack along the AT and elsewhere - and for good reason - the AG system. It's an already heavy pack - an ounce or two would be unnoticeable and provide a nice convenience. Now that you mention the Aether - hey, that comes with a raincover, the Atmos doesn't. HUH?

    • @BackcountryRenegade
      @BackcountryRenegade  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Robert Marino yep. One extra zipper is not too much to ask. The new Aethers do come with a rain cover, The last year version does not but the last year model do have a beefy Anti gravity system but they took it out for this year model.

    • @robertmarino3341
      @robertmarino3341 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BackcountryRenegade I'm guessing and I could be off the mark here, but maybe Osprey's thinking was that the AG system isn't the best for very heavy loads and that a pack that keeps the weight closer to your back is prefered? But the question I would ask them is since the Aether always had the AG, what made them change that (major) design this year? What- so they had it all wrong on prior Aether models and suddenly realized it?

    • @BackcountryRenegade
      @BackcountryRenegade  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Robert Marino I believe that is exactly why. From my testing with various aethers, which they try to say can be a mountaineering pack, when you have heavier loads and you are trying to climb, the separation makes the pack pull you back, plus with heavier loads it bounces a lot more. If you are not climbing a lot it’s not bad and still very comfortable. When I tested the Aether pro all these issues were resolved, so I think they decided to make it the same airspace backing.
