    I have the 88l version (85L Large size) of this pack and absolutely love it. I'm able to store my Springfield XDS 45 on the right hip pocket (not much extra room) and two spare mags on the left side. At 5.4lbs it's not too bad but I'm not counting ounces. My recent three day wilderness hike fully loaded with water (Kleen Kanteen 40oz) and food (3lbs of steaks for two included) weighed 35lbs and was very comfortable. I plan on using the 85L for 7-12 day wilderness/mountain hikes in bear country (will fit a canister easily) in the future hence why I use the larger sized pack. Great review as always Luke.

    I have an Osprey Variant 37, it has largely the same features and design of this. I love it for it's great looks and usability, it's just big enough for an overnighter but also small enough not to make me feel like a pack mule, no "Anti Gravity" on it though.

    Very nice. I just got one, and now I know what some of these straps do!
    The hip straps are cool and help a lot. It holds onto you, kind of like holding up a happy 2yr old vs holding one that wants to be let down and does that 'lean back maneuver' lol.

    Wow impressive. This is a great pack to have I love the back mesh piece the hip straps that can be adjusted to your hip. I myself have a size 29 hip and a lot of packs that I get that piece feels like it overlap my hips.
    Also love the pockets on the hip belt it sure beats having a fanny pack with you. Last I like all the compartments this has in it. I hope this company makes more of them and with cheaper prices. This pack is a little out of my price range sorry. Wel Luke thank you once again for a fantastic review.

    I don't have many miles on my 65L yet, but I do find it is pretty comfortable so far. You can put a lot in it - enough that you dread putting it on, and then you get it on - it really does not feel like you are carrying anywhere near that much.

    I just bought this pack and I have a question. How the hell do you open up the back zipper to the suspension system when there is no pull tab on it? Kind looks like it wasn't meant to be used other than to fix the suspension system if it needed repairs or something.

    • @TheOutdoorGearReview
      @TheOutdoorGearReview  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheBeagleBrigade Good question my friend and you can make a pull out of a paper clip if you want to pull it open/close it. For most people they won't need to get access to that portion of the pack. It's like you said, mainly for repairs.

    I recently did 4 days/3 nights at Yosemite NP in the 65L version of this pack. With food and water my packed weighed 32lbs. This is what bothered me about the pack. No matter how i packed or adjusted the pack the rubber pieces under the pack would dig into my lower back. It also squeaked a lot. The hip belt pockets was barely able to fit a single Cliff Bar. Lastly, at first it was extremely difficult to put on alone because the hip belt would remain closed. Putting the pack on became a tad bit easier as you break in the hip belt.

    • @TheOutdoorGearReview
      @TheOutdoorGearReview  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roland Nieves Thank you for sharing your experiences brother. I will certainly remember those when it comes time to do the review and will compare those to my own. By the way, what was squeaking?

    • @BoosterBoy101
      @BoosterBoy101 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheOutdoorGearReview I have the OSPREY Stratos 36 and for the first 2-3 days of hiking I experienced the squeaking too. I didn't actually realise it until someone walking behind me commented on it, then I occasionally heard it. It's gone now thought so no harm, just something wearing in.
      I didn't bother too hard finding where it came from but somewhere around the drag handle/load lifters. Right behind your head/neck.

    • @panzerabwerkanone
      @panzerabwerkanone 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roland Nieves I do believe that Luke mentioned that the hipbelt pockets were too small to be usable in last year's review of the Atmos 65.

    • @rolandnieves7148
      @rolandnieves7148 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      TheOutdoorGearReview You're very welcome! I believe the squeaking was coming the hip-belt. Which i found odd since the hip-belt isn't it's own piece on the pack. Can't wait to see your review on the pack.

I dont need the 65L but was on sale at REI , 50L would be perfect. The only thing I didnt like is the waist straps are way too long , and the waist pockets are really small . But the fit is Great ! • @dmb3428
    @dmb3428 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have the 50L version, IMO a pack this size doesn't necessarily need to be made out of such heavy material (who has gear today that weighs 40+lbs that can fit in a 50 L pack?). This pack is top of line in quality, the mesh backing does keep the pack off your back directly and is probably the best at mimicking an external frame in this area. This pack does have that "hug" feel to it and works well with 30+lbs in it, the material is also made strong enough I would not hesitate going off the beaten path through brush. That being said, Im still on the fence whether or not Im going to keep it..I have a gg blaze AC 60 that fits great and can handle all my stuff at around 30lbs, I just HATE the color of the blaze but it fits like a glove but not a strong as the atmos...BTW this pack looks awesome in person ( graphite gray looks more like dark forest green to me)

    • @dmb3428
      @dmb3428 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      dmb3428 one more thing, you should pay attention to how the hip belt feels when your walking around. To me it doesn't feel like it's locked down on my hip area ( like other packs do when cinched down correctly and the pack settles) so now Im wondering if it will require re-adjusting the pack ever so often due to slippage? That could become annoying real quick, especially if it's raining.

  • @RuudOudendijk
    @RuudOudendijk 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Luke. I looked at the Atmos 65 liter, but ended up buying the Fjällräven Kajka 65 (which I know you have too) instead, mainly because of the way its build. If I look at the usage of my backpack, I need to not worry about it. The mesh front on the Atmos is way to vulnerable and the materials are not as heavy-duty like then that on the Kajka. If you're looking for a large pack in the 65 liter range that will last you a lifetime, I suggest saving a bit more money and skip the Atmos.

    • @TheOutdoorGearReview
      @TheOutdoorGearReview  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ruud Oudendijk Thanks for sharing your opinion my friend. For myself, I see these as two different packs and you are absolutely right about durability but with durability comes more weight. For most trails, the Atmos will be just fine. For the technical/rough stuff, I would go with the Fjallraven.
      Take care of yourself my friend.

    I really like Osprey and their packs. Really nice features on most of them.
    On some of their other packs (Xenith for example) the lid can be used as a waist pack. Not only that, but the buckle used for the hip belt is the same as the lid, which means you have a spare in case of breakage.
    One concern about the mesh on this one tho, how does it effect the durability of the pack?

      fontanell Durability is a great question my friend; we will have to see once it hits the trail.

    Hey Luke, thanks for the review. Quick question, does the Atmos have a raincover?

    • @v-glave
      @v-glave 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrGosh According to Osprey's website: yes. ("Integrated & detachable raincover" / "Integrierte und abnehmbare Regenhülle")

    • @TheOutdoorGearReview
      @TheOutdoorGearReview  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrGosh It doesn't include a raincover my friend. I have only seen this feature listed on the REI website in what they call the EX edition. - Luke

    Love it man, but why so heavy? Drop 16oz and it's a perfect pack. But 4lb for 50L pk is too heavy. Strategically lower the denier density we'd have a segment dominating product...not only today (7/15/15) but for years. 4lbs 50L's? Frageltharp! Who is the nincompoop who thought THAT was acceptable? We're still better off with a Gregory Z55. That kills me! Give me the weight savings of the Gregory and the brilliance of the AG suspension and BAM! The best pack on the market. So close to perfect you gotta wonder, "what the hell?"

    That's a really nice looking bag with lots of bells and whistles...but at a cost. It weighs 2 full pounds more than my comfortable mainstream manufactured (not ZPacks etc.) 50 liter backpack which I purchased for $50 shipped. I see the usual, "but it's so comfortable" argument below, which in reality means nothing to your legs, knees, ankles and feet. Pack weight is nothing more than weight to your lower body weak points and these are the areas most likely to fail you on a serious hike. I'm subscribed to your channel because I like your reviews but don't always agree with your observations and conclusions. Thank you for your videos and keep up the good work!

    Golly what a comfortable pack! But what on earth possessed them to do away with the front pockets on the 50 liter pack? I don't think I will ever forgive Osprey for that! And why does it not have ANY attachment points at all; no daisy chain, no straps, no nothing? I'm amazed and greatly disappointed at the same time....

    4 LBS. for a 50 liter pack? WAY too heavy. Certainly not Anti Gravity.

    • @TheOutdoorGearReview
      @TheOutdoorGearReview  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Rob Cook The weight of the pack doesn't have to factor into the comfort. I have a number of heavy packs that you can't even feel when wearing it and some lighter packs that you definitely can.
      Cheers.

      I know that I love my Mountain Hardware Thruway 50 at an even 2 lbs. Even at that, I've got my eye on a Zpacks Arc Blast, which I believe you have, at 1 lbs. Thanks for the great channel.
