  • Laphroaig Lore Islay Single Malt Scotch Whisky Review
    This one is one of Jen's favourite drams! First tried at the distillery 4 years ago. Laphroaig is a whisky we talk about in the shop a lot. It is loved by many but it's not everyone's cup of tea!
    The Lore is matured in bourbon, quarter casks and sherry casks and aged between 7 and 21 years so its a wee bit of everything that Laphroaig do all in the one bottle!
    What you do thing of Laphroaig and have you tied the Lore yet? Let us know in the comments!
    Sorry about the whooshing noise in the second half of the video. It was very cold and our heater came on half way thought and we didn't notice as it was closed to the camera than us!

    Got one of these last year as part of a UK online order. The price it's available for that way (around $85usd) it's definitely worth it. However over here in the US for $130 that's a no thank you. A very nice dram. Cheers lady's

    La Frog 10 was my "rabbit hole" whisky that took me from the occasional sip of a cheap single malt, to having more than 60 different whiskies in my collection at one point. The flavour just blew me away, although I don't drink peated whisky very often now. Lore is easily the best peat I have tasted. Cheers ladies 🥃🥃

    I've been into whisky for a couple of years, and find I am a peat head. Have a bottle of Laphroaig 10, and love it. I will try to find the Lore. Really enjoy your videos.

    The Laphroaig 10 was my entry into peated whiskeys years ago and I just now picked up a bottle of Lore... OMG it's so good..... and don't ask me to pick a favorite I love em all especially Ardbeg Corryvreckan!

    Sometimes I'm genuinely surprised both of you don't throw whisky all over the place, with how much you wave the glasses around while describing the tasting notes. Entertaining as always 🤣🎅🥃

    What I love about Laphroaig is how distinctive it is. Its amazing to be able to pick up a dram and have a good chance of identitying the distillery. Not sure how many distilleries that could apply to.
    I loved my trip to Laphroaig. Definitely enjoyed the warehouse tasting there more than Ardbeg. Bowmore was also great and arguably Bruichladdich was the best.

  • @blindtomuk

    I certainly think that Laphroaig 10 was divisive for me. Tried it when I was young and it put me off peat for years. Some years later I was at the London Whisky Show and was convinced to try Octomore. Really liked it and embraced peated whisky. The 10 still isn't a favourite of mine among their range. However, the Lore is lovely and offers a really rich experience at a very reasonable price.
    PS my English mother also calls Scottish pancakes drop scones.

    I really like Laphroaig as a distillery. The 10 is a bit on the anemic side for my taste but the quarter cask is great, I love the 10 year old sherry oak. I’ve also had the opportunity to try the PX cask cask strength and I’m still sitting on a bottle of Lore I bought a few months ago. I’ll be opening it up over the Christmas holidays very soon.
    Great video as always you two. Your energy on camera is infectious! 😃🥃👍

    Laphroaig 10 was my gateway into whisky. I was just Jack Daniels and Coke until that point. I have really struggled to get off Islay /Islands and into the mainland whiskies ever since.

    Finally tried Laphroaig 10 the other week after not having the best experience with peated whiskey. I thought I was going to get a mouthful of a cigarette ashtray, but was actually really surprised on the sweetness of the finish and quite enjoyed it! Made me curious to keep trying others out there.

    Another great video, thanks a lot! Loved it when Rachel went all Han Solo saying ‚I know’ to Jen’s ‚I think you are right.‘ 😅 I really like Laphroig at a higher (46%+) strength and basically from all kinds of casks. Leapfrog rocks!

  • @DJMJRyder
    @DJMJRyder ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Laphroaig is amazing.... With decent abv.
    It's a shame I have to search out 10 cask strength to drink the standard Laphroaig profile without it tasting watered down.
    That said, Laphroaig 10cs is one of my absolute favourites and batch 13 may be my favourite Laphroaig of all time. Lore is delicious too, just hard to choose over a cheaper 10cs

    I'd like to try the Laphroaig Lore but I think it's insane priced in my market, which is Ontario, Canada. It's €160 (£140). On Laphroaig's website, it sells for €55! I can't buy on principle.
    I realised that the two of you have your own store. That's great. I wish we could have places like that here.
    As it is, the provincial government has a virtual monopoly here. Unless it's local and produced here and you are able to get to the distillery, winery, or craft brewer, your only choice is the government store.
    I think your website is fabulous, as are your youtube presentations.
    I wish you both the best of luck!

    Needless to say I love peated whiskies. Laphroaig QC in fact was the first peated whisky's I've had and it blew me away. Still love it and prefer it over the Lore. Next to the QC, the 10CS is my favorite (of the still affordable that is)

    Loving your videos, especially this one having just bought a bottle of Laphroaig Lore! And having a huge laugh watching with captions on... ah, those Iowa whiskies - the groin/Leroy, art bag, like a villain... and the ex-medic, bourbon, Shady Cask and Quarter cast. 🤣

    Hi ladies,
    really enjoyed your video. I like Islay whiskies, but I am open for the other regions, too. I like Laphroaig 10, the quarter cask with 48 abv and I tried the Lore in a tasting and it was really good. In the moment I enjoy the Willamson from Carn Mor from a sherry cask a lot. This is an independant Laphroaig.
    It would be perfect if you could go to Islay for the festival in 2023 and you do a video from each Islay distillery and from Jura, too.
    Cheers from Germany and a happy new year to both of you

    I really did not get along with Lap Frog when I first tried it years ago. Something changed and trying it again recently I really enjoyed it. Maybe my taste has matured, or quite likely my senses have simply been numbed over the years. Either way, I suppose I need to give Lore a try.

    Love a Laphroaig! Right now I am enjoying the ominous Ileach which contains undisclosed Islay. Excellent stuff, more smokey than peaty. For some reason a lot of colorant in it, would do even better without it.

    I feel like I ignore Laphroaig in general. I have a bottle of the 10 Year Cask Strength that I haven't touched in years. Though, on the random times I do have it... it's good. Never been blown away and prefer less abrasive peat to be honest but ya know... it's there 🤣

  • @JamieFitzgerald

    I've had the 10, the cask strength 10, the sherry cask 10, and the PX Cairdeas (which I adore). I'd love to try the Lore but in the US it's routinely around $125 - $140, and from what I've heard, it's not so much better than the other available bottles to justify the additional cost. Hopefully someday I'll find it for a decent price and can give it a shot.

    • @TheGrailTastings
      @TheGrailTastings  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, they all all good so may as well go for value! Agree!

    • @jackthepickledhound
      @jackthepickledhound ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The triple wood ...is a blend of all those. I scored my Lore for $99 but I typically see it for $150 and since the next Cairdeas will be well over $100 the allure is diminishing.
      I'm all about value and quality and the amazing subtlety of Laphroaig, but the future is changing. Will batch 15 still be less than Uigeadail?
      The Lore was supposed to replace the 18. Which justifies the cost. That's like saying committee releases are supposed to be great whisky.

    I think you might be interested to compare the Laphroaig with the Finlaggan Cask Strength and the Finlaggan Red Wine cask. I think they are excellent. There is a sherry cask which I have yet to try. I’d love to hear your thoughts on them.
