  • Today we compare two great Laphroaig's, Lore and the legendary 18 year. Both come in at 48% abv. The 18 year-old is one of Mike's "Top Three Purchased" whiskies. Two whiskies we know well from a distillery we love.

I love the Lore and only have one unopened bottle left. Can you believe the distillery sells it on their website for $65 a bottle?? Bummer is they will not send to the USA but only to specific countries. You buys are really great together and really compliment each other with your knowledge and tasting notes!...Thanks again

Thanks for the review guys! Lore is one of my favorite whiskies and here in the Netherlands it's less than half the price of the 18. Until recently one online store sold them for 60 Euro. I better stock up some more Lores if it is really discontinued. The prices will probably rise like the 18 did, which is now hard to find for less than 175 EUR.

I liked both of them, but they were expensive when they were in the liquor store catalogue, around $200 CAD including taxes... My money's on the 10 year old at just a bit more than $80 CAD all in, or the Triple Wood at just a hair more than $100 CAD.

islay whiskies are so weirdly priced based on where you are, it's almost impossible to even discuss prices or even price tiers. It's one of the many reasons I hate having price discussions on whisky scores. And yet you kinda have to. These were both about 100 USD when purchased and while lore has gone up I can still find them around that 100 mark here and there.

Since the Lore here in Ontario Canada is a "gone down the road wacko" price of $200 I will never get it but a few years ago had family visiting from UK and they brought me a bottle that only came to $118 (from Amazon UK) all in so that bottle went quick, very nice, found that initially it was more powerful and peaty when first opened but over time it mellowed out as it went down. I strangely enough rather preferred the more potent taste from the first part of the bottle. The 18 has to my knowledge never been allowed in Ontario ( or anywhere in Canada for that matter) so that's the end of that story, I'll take your word on how good it is. Cheers!
