    Setup:
    Projektoren: 3 x BenQ TH681 Full HD 3D DLP
    Touch-Interface: Selbstgebautes Amaturenbrett mit 3 Treckstor Ventos 10.1 Surftabs, Software: Roccat Power Grid
    Sprachbefehle: VoiceAttack Software mit Voice-Feedback
    Headtracker: TrackIR (passiv rückwärtig)
    Gestenerkennung: nicht aktiv im Video: LeapMotion Controller
    HOTAS Joystick: Saitek X52 Pro
    Tastatur: Logitech G19
    Grafik: Crossfire 2x Sapphire RADEON R9 290 Tri-X OC mit AMD Eyefinity, Auflösung 5760 x 1080
    Sound: Logitech z 5500 5.1
    Hight of projector: 2,35m
    Distance projector to wall: 2,00m
    Diagonal (projector to lowest point on the wall):ca 2,30m
    Screensize per screen (W x H): 1,8m x 1,0m
    Screen-diagonal: 80'' (2,03m)

    Hi, thx for the great commendations. The extra invest was "a bit" more than for an Oculus Rift, but I had a lot of fun during planing and construction. Priceless! I never tried an Oculus, but I can´t imagine to play without seeing my hands handling with this roccat grid tablet interfaces. Maybe OR is also cool but I personaly prefer to use more concrete things. And btw, this video was not made to start just another competion pro or agains OR. I only wanted to show MY way and did not intend to persuade anybody from my personal way of traveling through the galaxy...
    The perspective in the vid is not the best. To get my point of view, just try th-cam.com/video/AvNL695rJKo/w-d-xo.html (a vid I made a few days before the big one here), and imagine to see it in 3D, a functionality which I deactivate for videos. in 3D the holos are above the real rig... I can say to everyone, the resolution is very very good (5760x1080), what the smaller video (th-cam.com/video/AvNL695rJKo/w-d-xo.html) proofs. All letters can be read very very easily and black is nearly black because in the meantime since this big video, I was able to remove the lights, caused by the trapezial effekt. And last but not least, I only produce a shadow of myself, if I´m, 50cm from the screens. For me, and just for me, it fits!
    And to all who are interestet in Nerd-aspects: I´m not a Virgin, I have a really great girlfriend who also likes gaming, we live in a very cool house and my mother is living hundreds of miles away. I just like to take my hobby seriously :-)
    Again, thx for the comments from around the world, they are ALL a pleasure for me/us!
    Greetings from Germany,
    Markus
    PS.: The beginning of the video has no sounds (it was my very first work with an video-editor).

      I'm sure lots of people are saying 'why not oculus?' As a DK2 owner and user, I can tell you that your setup is probably better in some ways. As you said, seeing your own hands. But also, you can make out each star and speck of dust out there. I love how when a star fills your view, your whole room blooms with starlight. Until DK3 or CV1, I'd probably take your setup over my DK2.

    • @MrMechcondrid
      @MrMechcondrid 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kyle Biggs well ya you cant really see your hand but for something like elite if your gonna splurge for a DK2 your gonna most likely want to grab a hotas system (i have an X65-f from saitek and i must say it is craploads easier than keyboard just because once you set it up the muscle memory almost instantly takes over and commands and controls become almost reflex like)

    • @AurelTristen
      @AurelTristen 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      MrMechcondrid I get that. I have an Obutto cockpit and TM Hog HOTAS, so I'm not skimping on the hardware, but even at 1080, the resolution is ever distracting. Looking at my cockpit and hud, I don't notice it so much, but when I'm scanning the abyss for targets, it becomes painfully apparent.

    • @davidvincent380
      @davidvincent380 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kyle Biggs I would keep my DK2 just for the great stereo (especially since most actions are at short-range in E:D).
      For classic fligh-sims thought, a cockpit + 3 big screens will still be the best for a long time.

    • @AurelTristen
      @AurelTristen 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      david vincent Don't get me wrong, I love my DK2, and the 3D effect is simply unbeatable. It is fun in DCS, but useless, and fun enough in E:D that I play with it exclusively, but I'd run this guy's setup if I could, just for the clarity until the next rift comes out. :)

      @@winst0nsmith733 A HOTAS makes this entire issue go away. I couldn't imagine playing Elite Dangerous in VR with a keyboard and mouse. It just seems so wrong.

    • @Drakey_Fenix
      @Drakey_Fenix 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ThisKory Well that's an issue with you then. The majority of pc players use keyboard and mouse with the game as there are too many keybinds in the game to make it viable with hotas. It's not fun trying to map around 35 binds to a joystick and throttle that has really limited inputs, without having to bind double inputs. Plus hotas just take too much space on the desk for just one game.

    I assure you, nothing beats the Rift DK2 experience, the scale he has in the room with his projectors are about the scale inside the rift, thing is you can lean in, look at the floor, get out of the chair and walk around the cockpit, full natural stereo depth. Add in Voice Attack and the ultimate immersion. DK2 is NOT ready yet, it does need 4K, but hardware is not fast enough yet to support rendering these graphics...twice, 1 per eye. BUT!!!! E:D is the grand daddy to experiencing VR of the future. You literally can sit in space and chill out, looking at a planet or hover over the rings of Saturn.
    BUT!!I understand, part of geek culture on this degree, half of the fun is seeing if you can build it and make it work. VR Gaming is the future though. Facebook bought them for 2 Billion, after what I see, I assure you, they will get their money back and then some.

    Ich bin beeindruckt von deiner Zusammenstellung und der ganzen Konfiguration. Auch kann ich deine Argumentation verstehen deine Eingabegeräte während des Spiels sehen zu wollen. Ein großer Nachteil der Rift (ich hab auch n DK2) ist das es bisher keine Spiele mit angepasster Eingabesteuerung gibt. (z.B. Handschuhe die getrackt werden auf einer Ingame-Tastatur oder ähnliches) Allerdings ist der 3D Effekt (echtes 3D) und das Headtracking mit nichts zu vergleichen. Würde man deine ganze Peripherie tracken und Ingame darstellen wäre es wohl die perfekte Symbiose. Man bräuchte ein Mix aus Virtueller und Augmented Reality.
    Als Technikbegeisterter kann ich dir nur raten einmal die Rift irgendwo zu probieren, es eröffnet immense neue Möglichkeiten.
    Ich finds super das es Leute wie dich gibt die versuchen in alle Richtungen die Grenzen zu verschieben.

    I am so overwhelmed right now. This is the ultimate setup for a space sim. And here I thought I was "doing something" with my 3, 31", 4K Monitors. This set up makes mine look like a child's daycare toy (LoL). Kudos my friend. I now have a new aspiration. I too am not a fan of OR for long-time game-play. I'm good with my Track-IR 5. Don't get me wrong, OR is fun, it's just not for me. THIS right here is being "plugged-in". OR only simulates being "plugged-in".

    I can see allot of pros and cons about projector gaming versus headsets. When headsets reach 4k I think we will see a clearer winner. One thing for people to remember is 3D. 3D done right is a big deal. Not seeing hands I don't think matters, since most projector sims are in the dark, but it is nice to be able to see your beer!

    I play with Eyefinity and TrackIR and HOTAS, and I have to say this setup looks EXTREMELY good. Then the flaws start to show, and the major downsides are revealed:
    1) Overlapping projectors.
    2) Low contrast levels and can't play in a lighted room.
    3) All three center panels are 100% totally useless.
    4) Throttle not secured to the desk, and it moves.
    5) Cable mismanagement.
    6) Projectors are noisy, Three of them are VERY noisy.
    7) Takes up waaaay too much space.
    8) Totally useless for any other computing task.
    9) Sound seems pitiful, which is a shame, because sound in ED is incredible in 7.1 HiFi.
    10) Extremely high power draw, and very expensive to run.
    I went the 7.1 HiFi-surrund audio route to enhance all aspects of computing and entertainment, and made no compromises at all, as sound is so important.
    Am thinking about upgrading my screens, but will wait until 4K screens are reasonably priced, and I can afford 3 of them at once.

    • @davidvincent380
      @davidvincent380 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Before buying 4K screens, you may try the customer version of the Rift (somewhere in 2015), maybe the res. will be good enough for you. Or at least the gain on immersion may be worth the lower res.

    • @mightili
      @mightili 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not to mention he still has Saitek HOTAS. I mean, you spend thousands on all the other equipment but haven't upgraded the most important part. Don't get me wrong Saitek is the best entry level HOTAS but if you are going to drop this much money you need to be flying either CH or Thrustmaster.

      Perhaps I´ll try it in future. Now, I´m just happy with optic, feeling and handling of the X52. My right offhand makes some trouble sometimes and I had read, that Trustmaster and CH would need a stronger tug. We will see what future brings, thx for the advice :-)

      Hm, OK, I know something about computer software, but only in business things. This setup here needs no skills in information technology. All components work together in Elite Dangerous without any hack or tweak. I guess, it was one big aim of Frontier to implement all lot of existing interface technologies like TrackIR headtracking, OR, Windows Gaming Interface (which is used by the tablet-software and VoiceAttack), native HOTS-implementation and so on...

      Your propensity for vulgarity (and your grammar) really tells me a lot about your intelligence. Please understand that this is youtube and I am entitled to my own opinion. Also note (I'm spelling this out for you as it looks like you have some serious comprehension issues) that I do not intend to "piss on" anyone. I simply stated that I, PERSONALLY, would prefer colors with more vibrance and therefore a triple screen setup is more in accordance with MY personal liking. I really shouldn't have to explain something so simple to you (It's rather pathetic really) but I'm hoping you'll take this a lesson learned and actually think before you post another mindless comment.

      hahaha I'm a software engineer pal and I have a masters in Computer Science from Imperial College London. Not to mention I run my own business and I'm relatively successful, so take your pompous opinion that no one cares about elsewhere, the internet makes it pretty easy to disregard your comments, this guy clearly put a lot of effort and money in to this build and has a lot of passion for the game, for some little mug like you to start pissing on it, jealousy is a terrible thing haha. I bet you couldn't even afford his setup, I play elite on a 65" Curved 4k display and my rig is total overkill. So basically go and fuck yourself you jumped up little tool. have a fabulous day buddy :D

    • @stevealexco2
      @stevealexco2 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      also, still flying the grammar nazi flag? Really? in 2015? haven't you realised that this is not an English lesson? that was rhetorical, I actually don't care. Check out a track called Experts by Skism... that is you

    • @johnparks6936
      @johnparks6936 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I could care less what degree you have... If you have trouble understanding a simple 10 word sentence, you're still a stupid person in my eyes.
      Because you're having so much trouble, however, allow me to break it down for you:
      The colors look really washed out... I'd much rather have a solid triple screen eyefinity setup
      I pasted the original comment above once again for your reference. Now pay close attention to the "I'd" portion and read it once more. As yourself now -- What does that word tell you? It tells you about MY PERSONAL PREFERENCE and what I"D do if I had something similar.... I'm certainly not "pissing on" anyone nor am I expressing "jealousy" for his setup.
      Again, I don't usually reply to trolls like you, but I hope that from this experience you'll learn to think before you speak.

      Markus Boesen Not worth it. In combat (especially PVP) you need the pips to be mapped to one of the HOTAS hat switches. Using voice attack, touch screens, or the key board is too slow.

      Der Kommentar sollte auch keine Kritik an dir oder gar eine Beleidigung darstellen, sondern allenfalls nochmal untermauern, dass ich diese Konfiguration auch nur zu gern selbst einsetzen würde, der Kostenpunkt dahinter - auch die laufenden Kosten, denn Strom wird nicht billiger - mich aber doch arg bei Vernunft hält.

    The problem I have with TrackIR is that your focus is in front of you. If you turn your head, your focus is now say to the left, but that also moves then entire camera view to the left, but your eyes have to stay focused in front of you in order to see what the camera is now looking at, completely defeating the purpose of the motion tracking. I just don't see the benefit in that.

    • @MarkusBoesen
      @MarkusBoesen  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      YES, I have also problem with TrackIR. With release start, Frontier implemented a function called "Disable camera Lock on", which i combined with TrackIR-Trackmapper Software. My view stays in front until I turn the head very far to the sides and Trackmapepr aktivates then the hotkey for the sidepanel. And with the new function, the sidepanel stays activated :-) So far so good, but the panels are positioned too much under the normal perspective so I can also on my big screens only see half of its content. I hope, Frontier will improve that and give us a posibility to configure the position of the sidepanels in kombination with the selected resolution...

    This setup is a million times better than Oculus Rift's DK2!
    What a great setup! Love it!
    Hope I can build a setup like this!!!
    ED is the one and only game I play now.
    I haven't played Minecraft at all since I got my ED!
    ...................................................
    I hope the resolution on the Oculus Rift final product is 4k, that they are not swimming goggles anymore and that the tracking will be better...
    The DK2 is FUN, of course. But to play ED on Oculus Rift DK2 for more than 20 minutes, is for me useless, I can't see the text unless I am going very close, I can't see ships clearly. The reason is that the resolution on OR DK2 is far too low.
    I enjoy testing my OR DK2, when playing ED, but I switch back to play ED on my 42" TV every single time.
    My opinion about Oculus Rift DK2 is:
    DK2 is for testing and developing. Proper screens/TV's/projectors are for real gameplay!
    And of course, I hope the final release of the Oculus Rift glasses will be great.
