Elite Dangerous - Sidewinder full interior - walk inside my ship concept

  • Take a walk inside a Sidewinder in this one of a kind first person perspective 3D rendered concept animation. Interior layout is based on my Sidewinder Interiors Boxed Edition video.
It took 9 months of working in my spare time to get all the details modeled and probably around a month of GPU time for the raytracing.
I'm working on more videos like this one, but looks like I will have to cut down on quality to achieve realistic delivery times...

@@berniwsgamingstuff3364 I have to say, with just a bit over 100 people working on this, they achieved quite a lot.
And knowing from other game developers that are a little more proficient in communicating their work, I know that new features aren't that easy to implement. Many times, the process starts with building some new tools. In case of the interiors, I would imagine a tool to create the assets, one to build the internal structures and one to put all this together into a map of the ship interior. In other companies, this process alone takes about 20 to 50 people. And you still have to keep the game running, ironing out bugs as they show their (mostly) ugly faces and so on...

This space also serves as a fighter hanger, with the front and base opening for launch / recovery. Theres obviously also a super cool viewing platform at the bow of the ship where you can see that glass looking space in game. Lol, it’s never going to be released at this rate. Horribly mismanaged, they actually need a publisher to kick them in the ass to get shit finished. Unfortunately, Chris Roberts refuses to let anyone go forward with any aspect of the game until he gives his explicit okay and even then he often goes back and cans the progress they’ve made. It’s just not going to happen with his style of over micromanagement.
SC was supposed to come out the same year as Elite and it never did and is *still* in Alpha 5yrs later. I dropped some money on it when I thought it would be finished in a reasonable time-frame, hell, even two years I’d be willing to wait on a delay, but I’ve seen the light and the fact is, SC will likely never be released without a publisher to come in and make them move their ass and I’m not dropping thousands of dollars just to get some fucking dumbass ships while I wait.
Elite is simply better, yes it lacks a handful of features that SC has, but it’s not outrageously buggy, is finished and getting added to, and the developers have done it with a teensy fraction of the budget. Elite is here, it’s done, and it’s damn good for what it is. SC is a fun dream, but that’s all it’ll ever really be

Ship interiors will probably be added in the future. Makes no sense to create outpost and station interiors but no ship interiors.
If you think about it, adding ship interiors will fundamentally change E:D, FD needs to consider how to best implement this, since there will still be people who choose not to buy Odyssey.
Also, FD might be planning to add space EVA in the future (while not in supercruise), if that's the case, there's plenty of changes that need to be made (ship components, cargo holds, containers, airlocks, new gameplay mechanics, ability to board ships, etc.).
It's a lot of work, if you think about it.

"As I drove home from my parents on Bank Holiday Monday, I was passing close by Cambridge. I had plenty of time so I thought I would make a slight detour and take a look at Frontier Developments HQ. I found it easily enough; an impressive looking building on a rather posh industrial estate. I followed the signs and parked in the visitors car park. I walked to the main entrance, but there didn't seem to be anybody about at all, so after a few minutes I made my way back to the car. It was then I noticed something catching the sun in the fields behind the main building. I couldn't make out what it was from there, so, taking a cautious glance back at the Frontier building, I climbed over a gate and made my way gingerly towards the structure......."
