Scott Manley You could always try it in an Anaconda... I don't think I'm brave enough to try it in mine, though, not with the size of the deadzone my joystick has!
Well, it got a full video cover on one of the biggest Dutch gaming blogs: www.gamekings.tv/nieuws/gamekings-extra-jelle-en-boris-geven-commentaar-op-elite-dangerous/
Absolutely, I'm on console and have been getting used to not using a docking computer. Many times I have bumped off the back of the station, now I'm able to fly in and land almost smoothly everytime and have only gotten better after watching this.
I don't know what to say. My jaw drops every time I watch one of your videos. Many pilots out there are just going for bigger guns and bigger credit accounts, while you just manage to pull off acrobatics and pure savvy with a simple SideWinder and a couple of pulse lasers. All of this accomplished with a simple Thrustmaster T-Flight HOTAS X ( which I too have ) and TrackIR ( which I'm saving up for ). It just goes to show that true mastery in any skill is simplicity at its finest. Well done, Cmdr.
And thus I find myself back here, 6 years later. This was the video that caused me to buy Elite Dangerous, still every bit as magnificent as I remember it! Wish I knew how to run a ship that cold these days!
doctadrey3000 Yeah, don't get me wrong: I LOVE Solo/Harrison Ford! But The Character Solo has a funny jinxed attitude still (obviously he got caught by imperial forces and lost some goodies meant for Jabba, gets caught by the death star itself, gets caught in Bespin, fucks up his ambush on the scout troopers on Endor, almost fucks up lowering the shield generator on Endor... more of his "wants to be caught" actions? :P ). And my comment was only meant to show Isinona how freaking cool this video and his space-flight skills are! Which is a fact, no matter how good Captain Solo is. *sighes*
keytoyourfantasy i believe he ditched the cargo in order to avoid getting caught by the imperials(could be wrong).. the death star, they were headed there anyway.. bespin (shoulda just said cloud city, i had to google it) i guess i'll give you that one.. being frozen in carbonite was the only time he ever actually had to pay for his actions though
doctadrey3000 He complains/tries to explain to Jabba that "everyone gets entered here and then" (something like that, sorry can't give you thw quote word for word), so no dumping cargo to escape. They headed towards the Death Star anyways? No, there were headed to Alderaan, and ran straight into the Death Star... and only got caught coz our Captain refused to keep a distance in the first place -like Obi Wan told him to do. :) But I'll stop that silly nerd-war right here and will try to get my BF dress like Captain Solo tonight :P ... after I tried Isinona's fantastic stealth strats myself in E: D :)
keytoyourfantasy i had to google, but Greedo: Jabba's through with you! He has no use for smugglers who drop their shipments at the first sign of an Imperial cruiser. Han Solo: Even I get boarded sometimes. Do you think I had a choice? so he dumped his cargo to "escape" getting imprisoned haha, hope to be playing e:d soon
Great editing and storytelling with tension, risk and reward, and of course the amazing skill and precision flying we always see demonstrated in your Vids. Right on Isinona!
OMFG I can't believe you just did that :P amazingly edited and tense video with not even any talking in it. and I think I love it a lot more then if there was a commentary as well. Fucking BRILLIANT you have to live stream some time. id like to watch you just play whenever you do :P
I contemplated whether commentary would help and actually reached the conclusion that his videos are more tense this way. There's a sense of secrecy, like the narration is whispered, it just fits.
Hey Isinona, I wanted to add a few things since this video's gone viral in such a short space of time and to see the comments people have made, the more you watch it there are so many little details that at first arent obvious but as a whole work so well to make this one of the best game video clips Ive seen, perhaps viewers have noticed these little nuances subconsciously, but as far as I can tell no one has commented on them yet, so I thought Id share what I have noticed, that these are all clearly by design and on purpose. For starters and most obvious, the audible crescendo of the ice forming in the cockpit that then cuts the intro, is brilliant, really gets ones attention, plus to add about sound, may be Im hearing things (perhaps its just the proximity to the station and that's what Im hearing) however if not and it is by design Im convinced there's a low (key A) drone whilst we're watching the Fed's station exorcising its wrath on dubious smugglers that really emphasises the danger. Secondly, throughout the cargo gathering Isinona seems to have made a conscious effort to keep the head down in the cockpit as if trying to hide (I know using TrackIR myself my head drops sometimes perhaps when Im tired, but I dont believe Isinona's TrackIR is normally set like that!), very good in making us all feel we mustn't be seen. Thirdly, last but not least, if anyone was dubious to the mission as a whole, proof Isinona had picked up the cargo and subsequently went on to the station is all one effort, when one activates Silent Running, any engine noise thereafter is slightly muffled from then on, (some sort of game glitch at this point that Frontier may/may not be aware of), not that I personally had any doubts (maybe that it was pulled off first time, but Isinona cleared that one up) but if anyone did, this indeed proves the whole video is one complete genuine mission. Congrats again Isinona, I thought Id point out these strokes of mastery as it seems no one else has, as yet. To set a scene, accomplish what you did all in one take (bar the editing out of the dreary journey to the Hercules System in hyperspace), all adds to, like I say, one of the best homemade videos Ive seen in a long time. Forgive yet another geet wall of text from me, hogging the page, but wanted to share my thoughts.
Great video, great mood, great flying skill! Very interesting to note that you could land, apparently on a random landing pad, without having a docking permission. Normally you should have got a loitering warning and be expelled. You truly beat the system!
IncineratorX2 He was lucky anyways... I get 50% of the times a "docking denied" from tower control... he would have been SO screwed... ;P I am even more impressed with his storytelling ability and the slick cutting of the footage. 6:10 is a marvellous capture, woven brilliantly into the story!
As long as you have docking permission, you're good to go once you pass the port, you won't get destroyed. However, if you were to land in a dock you don't have permission for, you have about 30 sec to move or be destroyed. Even if he were detected, once inside and docked at worst he'd get a fine. It's getting past security outside the dock that was truly impressive
I feel like every week or two since this was posted I end up coming back to it and viewing it again. Such an incredible example of the kind of emergent game play possible with E:D and similar upcoming titles. Exciting stuff. :)
This is the best video of Elite I've seen yet. Spectacularly done. And your 'commentary' was clear, well timed, and built amazing tension for the last bit. Excellent flying skill.
This was like watching a sci fi movie. I would watch 2 hours of your space adventures any day and I have never actually played a flight sim nor do I own a stick. These videos have single-handedly made Elite more attractive to me than Star Citizen despite the latter being much more noob-friendly. Stellar work.
You are by far one of the best pilots ive seen, damn near the skill of some of my friends who run a piracy/smuggling ring, they use the same tactic pretty much...its quite lucrative once you get the hang of it and the thrill of sneaking by the security alone is enough to justify the risk...awesome video had me on the edge the whole time im definetly subscribing!
every one of your videos is a pleasure to watch...please keep them coming...you're making me consider learning this game, you make it look so real and engaging...i watched a vid for Star Citizen earlier for comparison and Elite just looks so much more...in every way. The sound and graphics design are spot on...i think i would just be happy flying around listening to the sounds and taking in the sights...it's the controls that scare me. Last time I used a joystick was on my Amiga...
You are a genius! I am truly impressed... not only with the ingenuity and skill behind the whole operation, but also because you know just how to make an entertaining video, and apparently how to write well. Unusual skills amongst gamers these days. Well done!
Liked and subbed. This was an incredibly well produced video, clear and concise, yet simple and fun to follow your illegal adventures. And that last burst into the station was magnificent.
I come back to this vid at least once a year to remind myself just what real skill looks like. The lateral slide alone is a top-gun level maneuver and then to polish it off with a high-speed manual rotation lock... incredible stuff.
As soon as I saw the intro, I was sucked into the video. This is pure editing genius ! This game as a magnificent audio atmosphere ! The graphics are cool, but that engines sound, damn :D
So good to see the good old version of Elite ... as usual great flying skills but wait ... that was 5 years ago!! Has to be the best landing I have seen, I did think you were going to forget to request a space but you still managed it and switching thrusters on and nailing the slot ... brilliant!!
Ohhh man the whole thing was door I love the text!!! Went perfect with what happened, it painted a perfect space story in my head. But that 300k dash to the hanger ohh man!!!! Straight up out of the best sci ci stories. Keep it up!
Insane skills as always Isinona. I try to fly with FA OFF all the time, but I wouldn't want to end up on your scanners in a dark sector of the galaxy. ;) Brilliantly edited also. Hats off to you.
Then there's me. trying to figure out how to land and use the cargo scoop, with no idea that you could toggle engines, or that there was a black market
Well I just spent nine minutes and 37 seconds completely transfixed at what I was seeing. Nice one Mr Braben, I've waited 25 years but you've finally done it!
I've watched this about 5 times now. Just an astonishingly immersive video, wonderful flying skill. Can't wait to see someone using these stealth tactics to set up pirate ambushes on unsuspecting traders. I got more thrills from this video than from some professionally made CGI cutscenes for other games. Elite: Dangerous is going to be amazing.

This is still my absolute favorite video about Elite. Plus the old Witchspace sound, my god we need that back in the game, sounds so brutal from the dulled down version we have now.
"Without precise calculations we could fly right through a star, or bounce to to close to a supernova and that would end your trip real quick" - Han Solo
While everyone is jumping on Robonator for questioning physics I was cheering. Challenge science! Have a great conversation about whether something would work! Don't just accept what you're presented. Think with a critical eye! That makes life into one long thought experiment and learning experience.
Robonator Play the game! Learn that there are full-speed reverse thrusters! Yay! Logic is great when it's well-informed. Your's isn't. Also, it's a sci-fi game, not a science game.
I would agree, critical thinking and questioning is what drives sience forward. But in the end its also a game, and a sci-fi one at that, so inevitable some things MUST be left UNrealistic or it would be utterly unplayable and extremely boring. The ice on the windows, realistic or not (i wouldnt know) at least add to the immersion and effectifies a solid gameplay mechanic, where other developers would not even have noticed it. Its effectful and fun and thats enough!
Marcus Sundbom Agreed. What would Neal deGrass Tyson do? He'd call out the physics inconsistencies and then enjoy the game - going by his reaction on twitter to the movie Gravity. www.buzzfeed.com/adambvary/neil-degrasse-tyson-trolled-gravity-on-twitter#z8ba3h
Your video made me so happy I bought this game. I stumbled upon it randomly. A good thing, in fact, because I'd given up on selling stuff I found floating around since I'd always get huge fines. I didn't realize it was possible to sneak past security!!
This pants on head security is still far more fun than brackets in space. I will gladly accept this. Realism ≠ fun anyhow. Remember the vehicle physics in Halo 1 and how they were indestructible and how you could launch them into space with a heap of grenades on the ground? That was so damn fun
this is extremely cool! In eve online I'm a drug smuggler, but its nowhere near as fun and involved as this. Your knowledge and ability is clear. Nice work dude!
This is amazing, i dont think ill ever get tired of that hyperspace animation and those sounds. Game looks amazing. cant wait to play this, when the price falls a bit lower.
Great story. Reminds me of a little trick pulled by Hoban Washburn during a space station assault in Serenity. The subtitles go by a bit too fast though. :)
this is so amazing! Never even thought of entering the station that way! You should get hired by FONTIER so make some official vidoes. this is excellent stuff you are performing here =D
Hey Isinona, saw your video posted in a PC Gamer article, very well made, keep making them! This game is shaping up nicely isn't it? I can't wait for final release.
Excellent stuff, I had planned something along these lines, but now I'll have to find something else ;)
Hey! Two of my subs in one place.
sup man love your vids.
Scott Manley You could always try it in an Anaconda... I don't think I'm brave enough to try it in mine, though, not with the size of the deadzone my joystick has!
You could do a more "manley" variant and go in guns blazing.
small world.
Hey Scott you and Squirrel should get together and do some missions or something, That would be really awesome.
This video deserves more views, it shows exactly what is possible in Elite and what for roleplay is possible. +1
It looks like you know exactly how your ship handles, because your manouveres are so freaking fluent :-)
Well, it got a full video cover on one of the biggest Dutch gaming blogs: www.gamekings.tv/nieuws/gamekings-extra-jelle-en-boris-geven-commentaar-op-elite-dangerous/

So this is why I keep hearing about "The Isinona Maneuver" in smuggling forums
Dude goes hard as nails in his sidewinder to smuggle in 1k worth of illegal alcohol.
This is how I imagine everyone who is not me plays this game.
lmao right? I just got the game and I can barely complete training XD
I don't know what to say. My jaw drops every time I watch one of your videos. 300 m/s not 300 km/s into the station :) km/s is only in super cruise - normal drive is in m/s...great video though.
Utterly, utterly amazing! Great flying, cool tactics, and what a great atmosphere as you drift away!
Han Solo couldn't do it any better... in fact, I bet they would have caught Captain Solo. You're the man, Isinona! Great video, loved the tension!
hey now! lets not forget when han solo hid in a fleet of star destroyers, no one catches the solo man unless he wants to be caught
doctadrey3000
Yeah, don't get me wrong: I LOVE Solo/Harrison Ford! Right on Isinona!
Chewie: **incomprehensible Shyriiwook question about how to get past Imperial security**
Han Solo: "I dunno. Act casual-like."
OMFG I can't believe you just did that :P amazingly edited and tense video with not even any talking in it. and I think I love it a lot more then if there was a commentary as well. Fucking BRILLIANT you have to live stream some time. id like to watch you just play whenever you do :P

An excellent video with some very good narrative. You're really taking this game to the next level. I loved watching this :)

he got authorised for the pad 19. ^^ so that doesn't counts..
IncineratorX2
Oh my bad, happened so fast I overlooked it.
Falkenherz np just pointing it out ;) still pritty slick flying! (i'm impressed by this guy)
IncineratorX2

What a superbly put together video Isinona, congrats!
that last second engine burst to avoid hitting the wall was beautiful.

This was incredibly fun to watch. Very well put together little demo. Thank's for making it, keep it coming.
You are a genius! I am truly impressed... not only with the ingenuity and skill behind the whole operation, but also because you know just how to make an entertaining video, and apparently how to write well. Unusual skills amongst gamers these days.
Well done!
Dave Braben linked this on Twitter
Thanks for mentioning this, I would have missed that, cheers!
Liked and subbed. This was an incredibly well produced video, clear and concise, yet simple and fun to follow your illegal adventures. And that last burst into the station was magnificent.
Nail-biting from start to finish. Pure skill. Good job!
David Braben just mentioned this video in his EGX stream demoing Beta 2. congrats Isinona!! The Big Chief is watching you :)
i really enjoy your work. Story, suspense and skill.
I come back to this vid at least once a year to remind myself just what real skill looks like. The lateral slide alone is a top-gun level maneuver and then to polish it off with a high-speed manual rotation lock... incredible stuff.
Actually shouted out when you got through the entrance! Nicely done man.
As soon as I saw the intro, I was sucked into the video. This is pure editing genius !
This game as a magnificent audio atmosphere ! The graphics are cool, but that engines sound, damn :D
That's one of the most intense & exciting videos I've seen in ED. Excellent skills demonstrated sir :)
So good to see the good old version of Elite ... as usual great flying skills but wait ... that was 5 years ago!! Has to be the best landing I have seen, I did think you were going to forget to request a space but you still managed it and switching thrusters on and nailing the slot ... brilliant!!

Wow, that was a beautiful run. I especially liked the accuracy on your entry, well done.
Insane skills as always Isinona. I try to fly with FA OFF all the time, but I wouldn't want to end up on your scanners in a dark sector of the galaxy. ;)
Brilliantly edited also. Hats off to you.
That was by far the most entertaining E:D video I have ever watched.. Bravo, sir.
Then there's me. trying to figure out how to land and use the cargo scoop, with no idea that you could toggle engines, or that there was a black market
Those cunts shot me down just for taking too long to land.
AnGeL MiST Your comment combined with your avatar picture is pure gold my friend.
Simply WOW. That was some awesome flying. Very well done! o7
Great video. It shows off the potential for interesting emergent gameplay. Well done on the video and well done Frontier for the game's open universe!
One of the best ED videos yet. Excellent stuff.
This is by far the most impressing thing i saw from ED and im a premium backer myself
Well I just spent nine minutes and 37 seconds completely transfixed at what I was seeing. Nice one Mr Braben, I've waited 25 years but you've finally done it!
Well done sir! Well done indeed!
Love the effects on the windows when things cool down.
Its very rare I will post on a TH-cam video, but damn fella! Kudos to you for an outstanding manoeuvre!
Very nicely made cinematic demo! Enjoyed it thoroughly!!!! Nice work!
Perfect use of flight assist off feature. Man, you rock, I got goosebumps watching this! :)
That is awesome. I hadn't really looked into the new Elite much, but this video has me salivating.
This was absolutely fantastic. I hope you post more of these videos.
Woah, that is impressive.
I've fiddled a bit with silent running and FaOff, but I have to humbly bow to your skills!
It's a proof of concept more than anything else. Doesn't matter that this run didn't make the dollar dollar bills, it shows a technique that can be endlessly repeated with the high value illicit cargo of choice.
Well done that pilot! You see so many explosions outside federal stations these days because of viper efficiency, it's like a firework display!
I've never played this game and I don't plan on ever doing so, but I still found this incredible. Job well done.
This video sold me on the beta. Hope to see you in the skies.
EXCELLENT JOB!!! best Elite Dangerous video yet.
This has really inspired me to finally give in to buy the game xD It was so much fun to watch. I'm also glad you put text instead of talking a lot
Excelent video, very informative about how the heat affects gameplay.
Very very smooth! This looks like a really fun experience - am totally going to try this some day :)
This is still my absolute favorite video about Elite. Plus the old Witchspace sound, my god we need that back in the game, sounds so brutal from the dulled down version we have now.
Awesome video thank you for sharing this. I let one of the producers know about sneaking around to avoid scans, they love the idea :)
You are the greatest Elite player alive. Truly taking the game to another level.
"Without precise calculations we could fly right through a star, or bounce to to close to a supernova and that would end your trip real quick" - Han Solo
balls of steel my friend. I would have ditched after I saw that explosion, especially knowing how common it is to get popped at that station
Then again, it's easier to take risk when you're in a sidewinder! Impressive flying by the way, I assume you are using a hotas setup?
Great skill commander. That was SERIOUSLY impressive.
*hat tip*
you got into the newsletter this week! grats!
that looked very difficult to pull off as well as badass!! and I havent even played this game before! Everyday im tempted more and more! kudos to you
That's outrageous eying the thread of a needle, yet again, you dont fail to impress. Jolly good!!!
The sounds in this game are just fantastic.

Most awesome thing I've seen in a while, totally excellent.
Your video made me so happy I bought this game. I stumbled upon it randomly. A good thing, in fact, because I'd given up on selling stuff I found floating around since I'd always get huge fines. I didn't realize it was possible to sneak past security!!
Great Smuggling Run. Great Flying. GG my friend !
The best videos ever! Go commander!
This pants on head security is still far more fun than brackets in space. I will gladly accept this. Realism ≠ fun anyhow. Remember the vehicle physics in Halo 1 and how they were indestructible and how you could launch them into space with a heap of grenades on the ground? That was so damn fun
I tip my hat to you, sir. That was some fine flying and I really learned a thing or two here.
Awesome job, this was truly satisfying to watch. :)
Absolutely awesome flying Commander
I just started playing , and I am so overwhelmed and this just blew my damn mind.
this is extremely cool!
You sir - have earned yourself a subscriber! Great video!
Holy balls! That landing was amazing! You'll never ditch your trusty sidewinder, will you?
That was a very entertaining video. You have some raw skill there.
And this is why i Subbed! Good work :)
That was like a prohibition space thriller, so intense! More so than a movie because anything can go wrong in a game.
Great story. Reminds me of a little trick pulled by Hoban Washburn during a space station assault in Serenity. The subtitles go by a bit too fast though. :)
Very nicely done!!! And also a very good small movie in itself!!!
that is so cool.
im impressed on the depth in game mechanics. very cool nice vid.
those old feelings of something new exploring like it was in original Elite )) Good stuff
Excellent hand on the controls and cool nerve. I'm inspired to give this a shot now. :)
Great video - thanks for sharing! :)
Loved the approach right at the end.
6 years ago this was the video that did it for me. I bought ED and I bought my 1st VR headset, and haven't looked back.
this is so amazing! Never even thought of entering the station that way! You should get hired by FONTIER so make some official vidoes. this is excellent stuff you are performing here =D
Sir I enjoyed every moment of this video.
Hey Isinona, saw your video posted in a PC Gamer article, very well made, keep making them!
This game is shaping up nicely isn't it? I can't wait for final release.
impressive!
btw: its m/s not Km/s.
Km/s is only shown in supercruise
