    Am a professional mechanic. K&n has been around since the 70's and always quality if you maintain them well. As for every product , some people don't , and for some reason these are the ones thar bad mouth it. In Canada gas is 6$ a gallon and these filters instantly added almost 3% of fuel economy on all family vehicule , so they pay for themselves. For those who fear engine damage (?) , we have 3 Toyota's , one with 350 thou miles and the other 2 above 250 thou miles , all running k&n replacement air filters , for more than 10 years

    I recently replaced my paper air filter with a K&N one, and it woke up my 2014 Police Interceptor Utility. Much more responsive, and ever so slightly better gas mileage. Word of advice! Never oil your K&N filter, it will destroy your MAF sensor. Just take it out, and clean it with 99% alcohol, and a spray bottle. It’ll get most of the crud off of it. And let it dry afterwards, since alcohol is very flammable lol.

    I just remember in the past with my 1993 G20 conversation van 5.7 going up a hill losing power doing like 55mph with a paper filter, then a k&n on the same hill and a decently loudish WOOOOOing sound not losing any power. Getting of at the exit on the same road from being in Overdrive with the paper filter... OOPS, give it the gas vehicle cuts OFF at the traffic light that just turned green! Same road OOPS left it in Overdrive Again WOOOOOOO! LOTS of power!
    Those conversion van filters small! The 6.2diesel filter in the same g20 van was much bigger🤷🏻‍♂️

    I’m using K&N drop-in air filters for a year now.
    The immediate benefit I observed was the cleaner airbox with the K&N.
    Using the OEM filters, it still allowed some dust through the filter and leaves a very very thin layer of dust on the, supposedly, clean side of the filter and airbox near the MAF sensor.
    Now, I know that with the K&N filter, clean air will be go through my engine. Everything else like increase in engine output and better fuel mileage is already cherry-on-top.

    I bought a K&N air filter for my 2019 Mazda3 awd hatchback after watching this video a few months ago. 186/186 HP and TQ stock is pretty sad. Mazda took a 2.5L at 13:1 CR and made it into an economy car running 87 octane instead of making it into a little NA ripper. The car is so insulated that I couldn't hear the induction with the OEM filter. K&N gave it some needed induction sound. If my car is making an extra 5whp in a car that weights under 3200lbs with AWD, I'll take it. With the K&N and 93 octane without a tune, read an article with dyno numbers that the Skyactiv is capable of self learning and adjusting for 93 octane, the car is pulling more at the top end without pulling timing like it did on 87 octane.

    Great video and very informative!! I wish more people compared air filters. I didn't expect that with no air filter. My advice after watching 'Project Farm' testing 6 different filters, including K and N is to use paper because it catches way more debris than K and N, and K and N tends to cause problems with the intake sensor due to the oil from what Scotty Kilmer says. The few horsepower isn't worth it unless you're on a track. Wix did best on Project Farm and second best was that Purolator One you had. I just put a Wix in my 2013 Lexus RX350 and a Wix XP cabin air filter also. The Wix also did well in Project Farm's 0 60 test.

    Most of the complaints I've seen on TH-cam about K&N filters is not about performance, Most of the people that don't care for them seem to think that they do not filter the air good enough compared to OEM filters. I've been using K&N for 35 years on over a half dozen vehicles so can anyone out there dispute the fact that K&N filters out particles as good as or better than K&N? One way might be to take a survey and see how many off road races through the desert are using K&N filters and what is the engine failure rate because they use K&N?

    • @TheMinuteMasters
      @TheMinuteMasters  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You make good points. I read a study a while back where the guy tested 7 different filters on some type of particle reading equipment. His findings were that the K&N allow more of these micro particles through than a paper filter. His study also concluded that as the K&N filter collects particles it becomes far more restrictive than a paper filter with similar build up.
      Now, how does this test stand up to real life? Who knows. As you said, you’ve been running these filters for years with no problems. Are guys being too picky about the kinds of micro particles that get through a filter. Probably.

    • @SlikLizrd
      @SlikLizrd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      YES !! The K&N RULES , and desert racers have been proving it for decades !!
      Desert racers encounter more filter-clogging dust and dirt in one afternoon than Joe Syxpak sees in 2 years !!
      U-Tubers that test 'em use faulty methods that give false results, and the bad info gets repeated over and over.
      One problem is that people want them to LOOK CLEAN , so they clean and re-oil them TOO OFTEN, which degrades the filtering quality and leads to the MAF Sensor problem.
      K&N says to clean your K&N filter every 50,000 MILES -- but do they listen ??
      NO !! They don't pay any attention to the manufacturer's instructions, 'cause they think that the resident Screeching Geezer knows EVERYTHING about anything, but he does not.

      bax442 I think most American car manufacturers had large displacement engines with very little horse power. The Pontiac Firebird from the 80s had a 6 liter V8 and it only made around 170-180 hp. Now the different for trucks is the torque. I have almost 70 pound ft of torque than horsepower. Cars are usual equal torque and hp or more hp than torque. I guess you could say torque was more important for a truck than hp. Either way, they definitely could have improved the hp number. Lol

    Don't deviate from the manufacturer's specs to try to gain some cheap hp. Remember anytime you do something to gain hp, you impact performance or the life of your vehicle. Filters are supposed to filter air.... and provide clean air to the motor. These aftermarket filters that claim they increase hp don't filter the air as well as the manufacturer's paper type. And many use an oil to attract the dust and dirt because the mesh is not as dense. So you always end up under oiling, over oiling, or not oiling enough. You think you're saving money by buying a washable filter, but the cleaner and oil costs around $50 and you need to do it every 6months or so. Not to mention, the Vehicle's ECU is preset for a certain fuel air ratio, so you're achieving nothing. I'd go oem every day of the week!
