- The hymn 'Immortal, invisible, God only wise', based on 1 Timothy 1:17 and written by Walter Chalmers Smith (1824 - 1908), set to the tune ST. DENIO, originally a Welsh ballad tune, edited and arranged by John Roberts (1822 - 1877).
This hymn was sung at the Service of Thanksgiving for Her Majesty The Queen's reign, at St Paul's Cathedral on Friday 3 June 2022.

Absolutely beautiful! One of the most wonderful, majestic hymns of all times. And is such a setting as this! To God be the glory!
That's how I feel
This hymn was a favourite of the late Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, and was played at her funeral in 2002.
Amen. Entirely agree.
Amen! What a God we adore!
Yet another beautiful, Godly hymn from the United Kingdom. 🏴🇬🇧
I love the sound of the pipe organ,, Glory be to God
especially on final stanzas when the pedal 32's are on
*Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.*
*- 1 Timothy 1.17*
⛪❤🙏
Beautiful Music. To our Ears / message so wonderful and True . Thanks St. Paul’s .
Amen. His Glory will appear in our land soon!!!
used to sing this at morning assembly at school of which we had morning assembly every morning to praise God and pray the Lords prayer something that should never have been scrapped
In my opinion I half-agree, although I believe that people should not have been required to do so by the rules, let alone have to risk all of the trouble that they might have gotten in if they refused to. I believe that there should be time given for such a thing, and that should be optional. I want religion to be recognized better, but I am for that being optional. I feel the same about the Pledge Of Allegiance. I'm not strictly trying to change your opinion; rather, I'm making mine known.
@@s.p.3587if a child goes to a Christian school, they should be required to fully participate in the assembly or parents need to find another school. These rules should be understood during enrolement. Also, if you are a law abiding citizen of a country, then you automatically pledge allegiance to that country or state
My school did too 😊
Here in Nigeria, in schools we are been led to sing gospel worship songs during school assembly
The hymn singing tradition is so much more wonderful in the UK than the US. Their joyful expression of worship is both thrilling and humbling. Thank God for these majestic expressions of worship. To God be the glory.
They get a lot of practice in their soccer stadiums.
GB has a richer church music tradition than the US, but the special occasion here, the invited congregation, and the broadcast mixing with heavy bias towards the choir, are far from the small parish church singing on Sundays.
@@darrinsiberiaBut the funny thing is they are good at singing in football stadiums because they are taught to sing in UK primary schools. In the states we are not. There's an amazing video somewhere of a UK stadium crowd singing along to Bohemian Rhapsody. It's not an easy song. They hit most of the notes. An American sports crowd could barely hold the tune to 'Happy Birthday' if they tried.
I've been to one standard mid-size town parish service in the UK...I couldn't believe how well the congregation sang compared to US churches.
Amen.
Goosebumps and tears ... even the mightiest people is nothing before the holiest presence of The Lord God Almighty, from Him we came and to Him we're called back! Halelluja, Hosanna Maranatha!!!....
I teared up. God is all immeasurable
For the Lord Most High is awesome, He is a great King over all the earth. Psalm 47:2
Hearing this anthem is like dug up treasure. I sang this with a choral ensemble in New York, approximately 30 years ago.
For me, it was beautiful and novel then. It is still beautiful now.
Thanks for posting.
This hymn is what I call an Anglican standard. One which is widely known and beloved. We sing a lot of English hymns in the Episcopal Church and this is one of my favorites.
it is in my top 10, too
Actually, the tune is Welsh and the words are by a Free Church of Scotland minister, Walter Chalmers Smith.
Absolutely beautiful! The acoustics in this cathedral are exquisite! And this is one of my favorite hymns!
St. Paul’s is a magnificent church and it houses one of the greatest organs of the world!!
Location?

@@chucklambooy8457 Oh okay.
Was it just a service or was there a particular occasion?
Also, is it a Catholic Church?
@@obinnaobiekwe4910 As noted in the title, it formed part of the service commemorating the Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II. It is an Anglican Cathedral.
Good to hear one of the great traditional hymns in such a place
I love it. Greetings from Germany to all my Sisters and Brothers in God !!!
Haunting, beautiful. Brings back memories of High School Final Assembly.
Awesome rendition! And the lyrics of this hymn absolutely describes God . Immortal invisible and only wise God! Hallelujah!
Could not agree more. Had to download it.
Happy to attend this blessed service. Nice old hymn. Thanks.
Always gives comfort to the people who listen to this hymn.
M
Magnificent. There is hardly anything more moving than a well-played pipe organ.
I am so glad, thank you. It is always good to listen to God’s praises
Beautiful and up lifting. Good to see The Monarchy and Royal Family acknowledge A Power beyond all human Power to guide and guard
All God-fearing kings and queens do!
Powerful hymn. As a classically trained pipe organist, the pipe organ has been an extension of myself and I delight in this post. Thank you, and God bless the Queen
The beauty of the pipe organ is that is comprised of four major voices; the principles, flutes, strings, and reeds. It is a self-contained orchestra worthy of reverence, sacredness, transcendence and propriety. More importantly, the church pipe organ was designed for one purpose and one purpose only; that being, WORSHIP to our great and glorious God. This is what constitutes authentic worship music as opposed to the vortex of American Christianity which uses rock bands along with their pop/rock musical genres glossed over like lipstick on a pig with simplistic ecumenical theology, akin to a musical Prozac;😢 lots of feeling and experience but little substance…….
This is one of mum's favourites
Beautiful majestic praise to our King 🙏❤️
maravilhoso hino nessa belíssima catedral, que Deus abençoe a velha e boa Inglaterra ♥️♥️♥️
All Glory and Praise to Almighty God who so loved the world that He gave us His Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not die but have eternal life.
God is always good.
my favorite hymn since the day I heard it for the first time. Our God is Eternal!
Beautiful!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
The organ is superb.love the movement
This reminds me of my high school days in Jamaica.It was definitely ono of the top tens hymns which we sang during morning worship.The use of alliteration is superb,not to mention the glorious melody.I sing this in the shower all the time.
So moving. I can't remember the last time we had the opportunity to sing this wonderful hymn in my church. Sadly it seems that now even the beautiful old hymns are reserved for rarefied settings.
1 Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
in light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
almighty, victorious, thy great name we praise.
2 Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might;
thy justice like mountains high soaring above
thy clouds, which are fountains of goodness and love.
3 To all life thou givest, to both great and small;
in all life thou livest, the true life of all;
we blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
and wither and perish but naught changeth thee.
4 Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight;
all praise we would render, O help us to see
'tis only the splendor of light hideth thee.
Most blessed and most glorious God...
Thank you for this. This service could not be seen on any free to air station in Australia.
There is some beauty, when creatures praise Creator. Glory to God of mercy and love.
Wonderful to see a big gathering of people singing God's praises without a mask in sight.
Everything is beautiful in this clip. The organ, the congregational singing, and the worship space.
Thanks for beautiful song reminding me of God's awesome power and majesty.
This is a very INSPIRING HYMN that really takes you along !!
Praise the Lord!
Only god know us minds and hear❤ People would like to also know us mind, but they can us well heart, becouse The Lord only can us mind❤
Spectacular. So moving musically and with such powerful words. The view of the immense crowd of people packed in and boisterously singing is breathtaking.
It's beautiful to see that the biblical ordinance of women's headcovering (1 Corinthians 11) is still preserved in many English churches.
Yet they ordain women and allow gay marriage
@@landonsmith6401 Cry harder. God isn’t real either.
It’s a great Welsh melody
And to think the daring duo get to be in such service in such a place, and they wear wires and are unmoved by the hymn words and glorious sounds of singing and that cathedral. Such great privilege and beauty, and to be disrespectful of the whole situation in one' s mind, as to wear listening devices, and apparently still be unapologetic about their misdeeds. I guess this is a classic example of pearls before swine. I really hope that everyone else there had warmer hearts toward God.
Especially when he grew up with all this tradition.
When I see beautiful services like this, it's one of the few times I wish I moved in those circles...but sadly I suspect quite a number of the people who are privileged enough to attend regard it all as rather dull. Meantime, the rest of us plod along to our local church week in, week out, singing drab contemporary hymns off a projector screen while the church wonders why attendance continues to fall.
Simply Magnificent!
Thank you Jesus Christ for the Church on earth!
Hallelujah!
I am playing that for the first hymn tomorrow congregational singing.
Thank you for sharing this beautiful hymn with the public!
Wowww...!!! Beautiful✨😍✨❤❤ ☺🙌
Rimango sempre affascinato dalla bellezza di questi inni inglesi.
Soul soothing melody. Thank you so much 💓 💗 💛 💖
This song is just beautiful in my eyes. He’s a wonderful almighty God
Very nice!
Makes you glad to be a believer.
I think of the talented and inspired writer of this hymn and how his magnus opus has won him enduring fame, and yet he is at the same time anonymous as I am sure he wishes to be. Because this hymn is about God being the center, the circumference and everything in between.
Lyrics given in most English hymnals:
Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
Most blessèd, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
Almighty, victorious, thy great Name we praise.
Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light,
Nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might;
Thy justice like mountains high soaring above
Thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.
To all life thou givest-to both great and small;
In all life thou livest, the true life of all;
We blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
And wither and perish-but nought changeth thee.
Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
Thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight;
All laud we would render: O help us to see
’Tis only the splendour of light hideth thee.
- New English Hymnal
The original version of last two stanzas from Hymns of Christ and the Christian Life, 1867.
[vv1-3 as before, then]
Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
Thine angels adore Thee, all veiling their sight;
But of all Thy rich graces this grace, Lord, impart
Take the veil from our faces, the vile from our heart.
All laud we would render; O help us to see
’Tis only the splendour of light hideth Thee,
And so let Thy glory, Almighty, impart,
Through Christ in His story, Thy Christ to the heart.
A hymn that praises God in his perfect attributes
I will be walking down the isle in less than 50days and I've chosen this song as my hymn for walking down the isle.
Best choir,👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I grew up singing this glorious hymn of praise to our Great and Almighty powerful Holy God, of heaven and earth, who created us in his own image and his own likeness
How Comforting to see and here this. Also, to sing with them all. God and His wonderful, caring love for us.
Glória a Deus❤

Lovely singing people
The closing song in the "Funeral episode" of Mr. Bean.
This is a beautiful song and very poetic - and very Orthodox in teaching. Though I'm not an Orthodox Christian anymore.

Take a second to think of the sheer might of the empire at a certain time, for example just the cost of this cathedral is unfathomable. Then realize the order of power and might of the creator of the universe, for example the energy of the collision of 2 galaxies is commonplace. We are so nestled and coddled on this fair planet, relatively speaking, and we should look after it at all costs.
The magnificent St Paul's Cathedral London: masterpiece of Sir Christopher Wren. This is really London's most iconic building even today, 400 years after its creation in wonderful Portland stone. Divine inspiration indeed.
