- The hymn, 'Praise to the Lord, the Almighty, the King of creation' (based on Ps 103), originally written in German by Joachim Neander (1650-80), translated into English by Catherine Winkworth (1827-78) and others. Set to the tune, LOBE DEN HERREN, which is the melody to 'Hast du denn, Liebster' in 17th-century German collections. It was first set to Neander's words in 'The Chorale Book for England' 1863.
This was sung at the Commonwealth Day Service 2020 at Westminster Abbey, on Monday 9th March 2020.

When you think of the Nazarene who was rejected and crucified, you must think again , that through Him, the light and love of the highest Holy God has flowed into the world and established itself as a saving grace. Composers and song writers blessed with The Lord Gods' gifts have written hymns so wonderfully inspiring as this. God is not dead, he is patiently waiting for everyone to come back from perdition, to draw close to Him and accept the Saviour He provided in Christ Jesus. Thanks for posting.

Unfoetunately they are not Catholic nor Christians. All Christians are Catholic, all Chiristians are united in one Body, the Body of Christ, the Catholic Church. Anglicans are heretics, they must convert to (traditional) Catholicism, absolutely reject their heresies, the "archbishop" of Canterbury must be subject to the Pope and the ruler of UK is not the head of a national Church.

Her Majesty accepted many changes in 70 years . Because our choices and the environment made her do so. Why do we love and respect her deeply? Because of faith in Christ, she was sure that almighty God was still on his throne. And loved and honoured all people and all faith traditions easilySinging worship is my backbone. Good to read an informed opinion rather than the usual negative agenda. The far left would have everyone believe that the empire was evil and contributed nothing to the welfare of countries but in reality the opposite was true, for all its faults it was overall a positive force that gave much to the building of democratic nations.

It didn’t work in the 1960’s and 1970’s. It made people run from the church. I don’t know what makes them think it would work now. *rolling my eyes* It’s really a joke. Nothing makes people feel the presence of god like a pipe organ rumbling the building.

Of course it was forbidden to sing this behind those walls. But a nearby church community played during that hot summer nights ( and we never knew if it is day or night because artificial light inside, no windows, solitary prisoner cells...) "Moonlight shadow" by Mike Oldfield! And even behind the walls we could hear it. Very different. But it gave me hope as a very young woman then. I truly hope, Germany will be good soon again, cause I live far away since decades.

As an organist in Texas having served many different Texas churches, I love this grandeur and am dismayed at how fast I'm expected to play these hymns in all the churches I've served here! I feel like all the reverence has been lost in American church music. :( Why is it that everything in "traditional" church music in the southern U.S. has to be a toe-tapper, while, for some reason, slow tempos are much more acceptable when a praise band leads the music??

This was to show she was just like everyone else before God. Elizabeth was anointed with the Cross with blessed oil and this marked the moment she became Queen over her subjects under God. As a True Believer, the Queen does her duty as God's divine servant. She said herself that her reign, be it short or long, will be in service to the Commonwealth. Other leaders should consider how they should serve their people.
