I think I figured out what prior game Marvel Rivals reminds me of. It's the over-the-shoulder MOBA "Knights of the Elder Orb" / "Fault: Elder Orb", featured in the college esports movie "1UP". Hopefully the issues which hurt other recent Marvel games are not present for this new one, and it finds its audience and keeps it.

Conan Exiles. just look at that. this is a reskinned/engined Conan. Which is actually a very good thing.
Conan' MTX is good and bad. Battle Pass is free if you complete it and doesn't require daily interaction. traditional DLC's are pretty cheap and comprehensive.
Store is complete FOMO because its a revolving stock and has very high prices.
all the things you buy are pretty nice though and there is a ton of it. It's amazing, because, there is also lot of stuff in the base game.
you don't need any of the DLC though. the game is extremely complete without any of that and none of the DLC includes any actual gaming content. all you can buy for the game are base building assets and cosmetics.
Conan is also a "hosted" game. You can host a single player game or a multiplayer game, both for free, or rent a private server, or play on official servers provided by Funcom. Everything outside of official servers is fully adjustable (full server and admin access).
this means you can play however you want. you make the rules, you set the XP rates and a million other things. Creative mode, full cheat menus...anything you want. No content is hidden behind any grind or anything. full on sandbox. full on creative modes.

I disagree. The spice aspect and the fact you can setup individual markets even as a Pve player, you could be a spice runner and never get heavily involved in PvP. Or create factions around trade guilds. Honestly the player market will make this game.
Single player games sucks. No emergent gameplay, everything is prescripted, you are just replaying alone what is designed by devs, that's boring. I'd rather see a movie.

It's Funcom, so you will get half a game with dysfunctional official servers and the mmo part will be in fact 50 ppl per server max.
yep, reskinned conan exiles. Their idea of MMO is 16 people playing together.
I already know I'm not giving them money. My question is, and surely it's almost rhetorical: will this be just conan exiles but improved graphics and different system, maybe some tweaks that they never implemented to that shit show? Probably. And it will still have loads of issues despite having some good features and fancy graphics. F Funcom.

I do think it's a more nuanced subject to get into; steam ratings, "recommended", game flaws that cause frustration vs the fun that can be had. How many of those ratings are a once sentence up or down vote because they had fun or otherwise for 2 hours?
I'm biased against funcom so I'm not the right person for the topic, but it's surely not as simple as "good rating - good game". I would recommend CE to some people with warnings, but in general, not really.
For someone who grew up loving the books it’s been interesting to see Herbert’s world building become new again. That said, I hope they’ve embraced some of the more esoteric elements of the lore. I hope it’s not just some dumbed down, simplistic survival/looter with a Dune skin. There’s SO MUCH great sci fi in this IP to make something really special. To waste it on a meh project would be a shame. Some of us would like some intellectual sci fi to engage with along with the pew pew. Unfortunately it’s 2024 so hope for the best and expect the worst so a miss isn’t disappointing & a win will be all the sweeter.
This is a great point. While the movies did a great job of telling a very focused story, I think the game has a lot of potential to bring in some of the larger lore in the universe.
I hope so as well, I am a bit optimistic due to Conan Exiles treatment of the Conan lore.
They already said they were steering away from Dune's political and religious themes so yes, its just a cheap reskin clinging on to Dune's name
shut up. go play Conan and then say that. all my brother talks about is how much of the Conan books and movies are in the game. so much so, I had to watch the movies to see all the details for myself.
He was right. I've never played a game, not even LOTRO, that honored the original vison of the writers world building and lore like Conan does. It runs deep in Conan.

@@Skullbushi They havent lmao.. The said theyre doing an alternate timeline for main story and stuff, the lore will still be very much Dune. For the religious and political themes you are wrong, the game will be VERY political and thatll be a main focus for people in the later stages of the game. And for religion, its still apart of the world, just not a focus for the player since I dont believe the player is religious.

I wouldn't even call Wow, a classic style mmo anymore. The server "sharding" makes it so that you are basically encountering 1 or 2 people in the world, and then the cities just act as hubs where the game pulls everybody into.
The gameplay we've been shown actually looks pretty solid, but what I think we all really want is a straight up demo that's not a vertical slice. The gathering looks super fun and interesting having to trace all the different patterns, instead of just hitting 'E' to harvest. Climbing and stuff like that looks fun too... I'm not getting hyped but this looks like it has potential to be fun. I'll definitely try it as soon as I can.
The harvester carried by the ornithopter brought me back memories of Dune 2, the classic RTS. So cool...

@australienski6687 i do think there is atleast 2 varients in the game. Ones thst are smaller and only really a threat to small groups. Then the big fuckefs that you cant kill. I might be wrong tho. Just seems like something i saw somewhere.

Different traversal options is always fun. I remember one of the super hero online mmo's had a bunch of different travel mechanics like flying, speed running, leaping, hovering, etc which was pretty fun.
Solo players are gonna have a reeeaaaal hard time given that one of the primary mechanics of the game revolves around trying to drop a harvester on Spice Blooms, then harvest, then get the harvester out before a worm shows up. Honestly, this seems like one of the better systems MMO's have implemented over the years (Provided it's done right) that will get people to work together.
That's a really valid point. Hopefully you can do something like hire an AI employee to manage the harvester or something similar.
Well you know there's genres for a reason aye! Not every damn game has to be solo and not every game has to be multi-player either. However games were meant to enjoy with other's
@@6Alucard6Tepes6 Firstly, slow down turbo, I never said I play Solo. I simply said that it will be difficult for people TO solo - and that this system incentivizes people NOT TO. Furthermore; games are meant to be enjoyed however tf you want to enjoy them and if Solo players didn't exist they wouldn't even make MMO's anymore because a vast majority of MMO players, are solo players. That's a fact.
@@ericm5315 I'm sure they'll work something out. If they don't have automated AI hirelings or something, there will be probably be a quick LFG thing that links you up with players for the express purpose.

All arcade games is meant to enjoy with others even if it were solo how did that work well that's why there's a score board to compete against other players scores!

I have read all 8 books, not sure where this game fits in the universe. Other than being on Arrakis and having sandworms this doesn't feel like Dune.
@@Cannon1221 it doesnt really have any dicrect connection to the source material, its basically a video game with the aesthetics of the films is how i think about it, and i really like those aesthetics. personally i like that theyre focusing on making the game enjoyable before focusing on making the game adhere to lore restrictions
dune mmo sounds wild. I get that there are other worlds, but what comes to mind is desert desert desert. I love snow, so much. It is my favorite game setting. Coming out in Loch Modan via the tunnels the first time was an amazing feeling. Having this in mind, my thoughts are just to run away when my brain say desert desert desert :P.

The thing that concerns me the most is the gathering system, how complex will it be? If it's too complex it can make gathering high level resources almost impossible under the sun, and if it's too simple it'll be more a bother then a nice thing

That's a cool way to make gathering items a little more thought-provoking, while not making it annoying. This game seems really promising with a lot of ideas like that.
Tracing was fun as a toddler
As long as the grind for resources isn't so harsh that we need to break 1000 rocks with a stupid pattern. Then it might get annoying.
Warframe had something like this and it gets kinda old fast, like short bursts its nice but if you are on grind mode. Meh.
I just hope there will be accessibility options to disable that. My hands are quite shaky due to disability so I can't do a lot of precision movement, not even with a mouse.

Considering how they ruined Conan Exiles with battlepass & macrotransaction trash, and failed miserably with Age of Conan: Unchained. I have little hope for this game being at all good.

The structure building is super nice, have used the exact same mechanics in other games. (blueprints, to others can build it, saved blueprints to copy something you have created for a use elsewhere etc.)

@@TheMasterwitcher You could be right - conversely, at the very least they've shown people 'actual' gameplay and the people who have seen it, all agree that it looked well optimized and they liked what systems they saw. Most of the time with cash-grabs, the developers rarely (if ever) take the time to optimize things. They know they're just going to release and take the money. Doesn't matter if the game tanks because they'll make the money off the initial sales so it's not worth spending time making it run correctly. At least historically that seems to be the case. I'm cautiously optimistic. Having said that - the moment there are red flags, expensive ass pre-orders, focus on MTX etc, I'm fuckin outty-5000. Lol

@@Sabamonster Historically, Funcom does all that and more. Battle passes and MTX. The gameplay looks much better in a solo environment because online in Conan Exiles you wouldn't go 5 minutes without several instances of rubber banding and lost input. I'm on fiber optic internet and it still felt worse than Ark Survival Evolved as far as server response.
I've got to be real here, every time I look at the Dune mmo there is a part of me that has a bit of hopium for it but every. single. time I can't help but go "Yeah but it's Funcom" have they put out okay things in the past? Yeah sure but honestly it's like seeing a nice kebab on a night out, look great but god damn that paper that it's wrapped in that has gone transparent due to grease is keeping me skeptical about how bad it actually might be.
The most skeptical thing for me is the server performance. Because I love CE, but the server performance is the bane of it's limelight. That being said, I only recently learned that CE was supposed to be a single player game that got converted after the fact. I still don't think that's no excuse to not actually create a proper server software, but at least it's understandable.

The Polar regions of Arrakis are also much wetter and have extensive ice deposits. There are also some planted areas, most of which are in the South of Arrakis. (The Spacing Guild has a special agreement with the Fremen, paid in Melange, to not keep satellites over the South of the planet to keep their terraforming efforts and numbers secret)

I started on somthing like that using arks survival stuff, but yeah, build cars, collect materials, create a fleet, tame wild boys. But I scrapped it bc of money and I didn't think it would do that good.

I think the best monetization plan for a release for an MMO is to have a paid game with a subscription model and initial purchase gives 1 year free subscription. They can then add cosmetics or keep the subscription model later.

I really hate this type of skill system where your character knows a lot of skills but some reason you are forced to pretend you don’t know them and only allowed to use a few when in the world. 😢
yeah, that's more of an arpg thing, and it still irks me in games like PoE, D4, Last Epoch, etc.
That's necessary to have any potential balance and it also allows many more powerful skills to coexist. I'd rather be able to use a few really impactful skills than have a million skills that are all just meh and managing all of them is just tedium. It also allows for more builds to exist and more potential to have choices to make (as long as the system is not too limiting).
Too many skills and you end up with one of the many Rust but 10x more complicated knockoff survival games. There's a balance to strike and I really hope this game hits it.@@piktasniekas8124
I honestly had a blast with conan and still go back to it time after time. So I'm glad that the team is doing a good job with Dune so far

I saw a live stream from Force and he really doesn't like story or low combat based games. I was able to deduce this by the fact that he skipped all of a story on a game he was going to review that he was live streaming. He just wants combat... So this 5:10 came to no surprised to me.
He also doesn't like to spend a lot of time with a single game, which is understandable as his job here is to cover a lot of games, but I think it also makes him separate to regular players, who DO want to get immersed in games and spend a lot of time in those worlds.

It looked like one character had maker-hooks which (in the books) the Fremen use to ride worms. Was there any indication that worms could be ridden in game?

I'm just so curious how the loop will be. Classic MMOs you have dungeons and heal/dps/tank battle style where you level up to get more and more incredible looking/damaging skills. Curious how they're going to bring this to a bunch of human-style characters in a desert. A Sci-Fi MMO seems more difficult to get right than a fantasy one.

It's Funcom, they've earned their sh*tty reputation multiple times over. Wait for release and review before investing as the initial asking price is FAR from what they expect you to pay to enjoy their game.

Kind of tired of this "Base-building survival MMO" meta we seem to find ourselves in. The emphasis is always on the building as opposed to the world/combat/character progression, which is sleep-inducing to me.
It's because they are cheaper and easier to make and they can just pump em out..

I dunno man... I don't know if I can handle an MMORPG that's all desert. Desert levels are my lease favorite.
The thing I am confused about is the base building mechanic. If servers are layered phases will your base just be hopping from layered phase to layered phase? What happens if someone built a base in the exact same location and you both happen to be on the same layered phase?

@damianramirez5292 it's not though. It's only giving you a fast travel location, but the game gives it to you also. It's just for lazy people who want that item from thr beginning of the game, which is stupid because you don't have the fast travel consumable until later. And that consumable is only earned in-game.
Oh course. Everyone knows built in fast travel is for boring games. Exciting games only have fast travel as a DLC!
Is anyone else getting tired of the survival crafting simulators they are calling MMOs?
Warframe had that mining system and it got old super fast... they later changed it to a timed click thing where you'd have to target a smaller area to get better loot while the "cursor" moved back and forth
I think the system Atlas had was good. Where its a giant map, with eqch square of the map its own server, and you would float to the edge of the map section to move servers.
MMO means Mass Multiplayer Online. Seems to fit that exactly.
Most people think MMO and what they are really thinking about is MMORPG or whatever.

The template building style is so much better than most traditional ways. Nightingale did the same, and it made base building much better.
Conan Exiles is the only game where I liked the base building system - I built them all over - so hopeful for this. Didn't particularly enjoy base building in Nightingale.
I sure DO HOPE that when flying an ornithopter, there is an option to lay back the wings to perform a brief free fall like in the movie.
That would be so incredibly cool and I will curse the developers if it isn't there!

16:05 Are we sure it is phasing? I know phasing from WoW where raids can have multiple phases which can change the level and instance more or less seamlessly. Wouldnt be instancing be more suitable here? Although, it seems they are hinting at technology being used such as SpatialOS, with the servers being connected seamlessly. But we will see. It seems it would be a mix of both.
When devs start releasing extended sneak peaks instead of trailers, the game will be an 8/10 max on release if we're lucky.
I've never watched the movies or even read the books but I do love an MMO. Seems pretty interesting so far at least.
It really does take a good movie adaptation or great video game for people to start caring about the books. I was lucky enough to read dune before i had seen the Lynch version. But I definitely played Witcher before even thinking about reading the books. It’s brilliant that adaptations can spark interest in the literature. Its cool to see.

C'mon guys I'm not talking about the development or anything like that , I'm talking about the gameplay. Last Oasis had some serious problems but it was a very unique game, nothing like we ever had before. And this one seems to be going to a similar direction, just hopefully it's going to choose a better path
but do they have blue-within-blue as an eye color option in character creation?

you can play conan exiles which is free to have an idea what the game will be like and it will be improved in many aspects ..so you will ahve a pretty good idea and yes sandstorms are a thing and beauty at exiless too :D
I hope it also has 1st person, also in the vehicles.. I’ve been flying the orni in vr in msfs2020 & it rocks

Well hopefully not too soon. The game is clearly still pre-alpha and nowhere near finished. This looks like a game worth waiting for and I hope they take their time.
I like the resource harvesting mechanics. I hope that won't be nerfed 🤞
