As someone who's played most of the games and read the lore on all of the games, I definitely agree with how you ordered the timeline and the different multi-verses. Great video as always, thanks for making great stuff
Thank you for the kind comment. I learned that some people generally hate the whole "multiverse" thing but "The Art of Doom Eternal" confirms it to be a real thing. Thanks for watching the video.
I've watched/listened to this a few times now and I'm still blown away by the quality of it and your ability to tie all this stuff together in a way that makes quite a bit of sense. I'm a relatively new Doom fan, I played 2016 a few years after it released and then picked up Eternal on release day, but I've since played a good bit of two or three of the older ones. I'm amazed at the amount of lore you were able to compile and the visuals you edited together to illustrate all of it. This video has really given me a better understanding and a deeper appreciation for this series.
Thanks for watching it. It took a while to get the actual script together and to piece the games to work. It was a looooong project but I am so happy with how it turned out. Thanks for noticing the effort ☺
@@Skyrionn You should be incredibly proud, dude! Your stuff helps me get through the long nights at work and I appreciate that a ton. Happy Holidays to you and yours, and thank you for everything you do!
Anyone remember the often forgotten, turn-based Doom RPG? It was a mobile game that came out in 2005. The plot seemed to take elements from the first three games. It was actually rather fun and used many of the weapons and sound effects from the original Doom. There were hidden doors and secrets in each level. It even kept the first-person viewpoint. I kept my old barely functional LG phone for years after I cracked the screen just to play Doom RPG. Wasn't able to find it on any other platform after that. Anyways, great video Skyrionn! It took me down a Doom-themed memory lane.
Was that the one where you use a spear to badly injured a giant demon and that said demon went back to hell and become rhe Cyberdemon that we all know in Doom 1 and Doom 2 games?
I want to say since I haven't seen anyone acknowledge it: THANK YOU Skyrionn so much for putting proper subtitles! I don't technically need them, but with this info-dense of a video it was very nice to have, and I'm sure lots of people that did/do need them are grateful!
Thank you so much for this video! I was super confused on why the doom slayer woke up in the coffin in the DOOM reboot, but never really bothered to read into the lore myself. This video is very well put together and I absolutely love it. My nostalgia and love for Doom 3 and Resurrection of Evil was overjoyed to see them included.
I almost feel like the entire Doom story is a parody. Like they thought "no one plays Doom for the story so we're just gonna throw a bunch of contrived bs in and people can read into it if they want to". So it's there, but just in the background but ultimately doesn't matter.
@@sheehase Never said I disliked it. If anything I was echoing John Carmack's take on story. Doom doesn't shove the story down your throat. 2016 and Eternal are excellent, for me damn near 10/10 perfect games, and IMO would be just as good without the lore tidbits but the fact that they're there make them that much better, especially for those who want them. I personally love how the story kind of takes a back seat to gameplay, while still being really, really interesting (though, again IMO has become a bit convoluted).
@@sproinsIt reminds me of the storytelling technique seen in Metroid Prime. You can skip the world building and shun your Scan Visor outside of vital scans if you want to, nothing’s going to judge you for it. But if you’re curious, your scanner can tell you so much and provide so much context about what you see. It’s part of why I love those games so much. Doom’s world was ripe for the same kind of incidental world building, but none of it was required and none of it was created with that in mind - and that’s okay.
I guess this is why people disliked Doom 3 heavily as it pushed the arcade shooter to the side and became more of a Thriller Story driven story Personally tho I like stories in games and I love Dark and disturbing stuff so Doom 3 became my favorite game after a I beat it It's up there in S tier with every other Doom game
It’s really interesting how similar the DOOM and Half-Life stories are. Both are about a secret research facility and accidentally causing an inter-dimensional invasion of Earth.
Same goes for Quake they are working on slipgates rather than teleporters and they create a portal to another realm which demonic creatures come out of except they are not hell demons don't know if the realm from Quake was given a name
@@smelkus In Quake you travel to 4 different dimensions, each dimension houses a rune that you have to collect, The first realm is the realm of earth magic known as dimension of the doomed, the second is known as the realm of black magic, the third is the netherworld the realm of hell magic and the fourth is the elder world, the realm of elder magic.
i used go think doom lore was just a throwaway of confusion and unconnected plot points, with a generic world and history, but oh my god this video changed my mind, i didnt know the story went so DEEP, i love all the stuff about the maykrs and argen d'nur, this was a great video, my only confusion is when will the dark ages take place
I find it interesting that the first structures created in Urdak and Jekked were almost organic looking white with black orbs. It makes me think of when Hugo Martin mentioned that "some believe the realms of Urdak and Jekked are alive in a way that's incomprehensible to human minds". Another thing you will notice is that even the super advanced technology almost acts as wallpaper for the organic white structure and black orbs. For example when you look at the room where the Doom Slayer was Imbued with Davoths power, the machine itself has an almost organic look to it, that is just masked by the technology and metal plates. Even the black orbs of the original white structure are apparent even when covered up by the metal plating of the late realms of Urdak and Jekked. I also find it strange that the Mykers rationale behind sealing away Davoth was because he was being a meanie to the humans in his realm, and that giving the Humans the secret to immortality would somehow danger the rest of reality... So the Mykers locked them up together for eternity... LOL? How does that help the Humans that are allegedly being abused by Davoth? If the Mykers cared about humans that much, why deny them immortality? We are clearly being lied to about this whole thing. I believe that Davoth was created by a Supreme being from a realm unseen. He was created for a purpose, to create immortal human souls. His job was not to make sure that they lived forever, but that they lived at all. This is why Davoth and the humans in his world were deemed a threat to creation. They wanted to live forever which means that their immortal souls wouldnt be fueling the supreme realm. This is why when the Khan Myker was killed, she said "your actions have jeopardized all of creation". Fuel HAS TO be fed to the supreme realm for it is what fuels existence. I think Davoth wanted to end this cycle that has probably occured for eternity and thats why he was sealed away. Human immortal souls are fuel not just for Urdak and Jekkad, but for the one True Heaven. This is why the sky went red in Urdak when the Doom Slayer killed the Khan. No longer will that fuel be provided and I think this is where the next game will come into play. The Supreme realm where Davoth was sent from will be forced to act since Urdak has been utterly destroyed beyond repair. Will the remaining Seraphim use the engines of creation to make a new dimension? Well.. perhaps that's why the new Doom game is titled "Doom Year Zero". (CONTINUE IF YOU DARE) This is extreme speculation and it sounds like Fractile Storyline theory, but... It's possible that the realm where Davoth came from was not "Heaven" as we would know it, but the fallen heaven where the true Lucifer/Satan resides. When Lucifer and the angels fell, they were cast away from God and Heaven. Perhaps Agent Energy is how the fallen heaven is able to remain in existence away from True God. The fallen heaven uses stolen pieces of True God that they stole before they fell, that they used to create dimensions that would provide them with the matirials to create Argent Energy. We see these stolen pieces as the blue hollow human men on the mission Urdak. This is why Hugo Martin said so many times that what is occurring in the game is a ritual, a cycle almost. These pieces were used to create Primevals which the saraphem would then create new dimensions and cast the primevals in there to create new human life that could be harvested, and the ritual begin anew.. With Davoth gone, and his remaining power transferred to the one who killed him, the only one capable of ending the ritual and eternal cycle is the DoomSlayer...
As far as I know, they didn't seal of Jekkad because they wanted to help humans, but because they saw to what lengths Davoth would go to to get said immortality. My best guess is that the secret to immortality is actually Argent energy, or something simillar, which would mean that he would probably create worlds, just so he could sacrifice them (the only way you can get Argent is by torturing a being and combining their soul with magic - Wraith energy). Basically: "I sacrificed a world to save a world", type of situation, hence why they said that he was a threat to all creation
@@tomaspirek1623 Correct. Death and tbe harvesting of immortal souls is fundamental to creation. This is why the Mykrs betrayed Davoth and the humans. This is why Samur Mykrr was so intent on keep the agent energy fracture alive during 2016. This could also be why the sky turned red and the violent after we killed the Khan. Because the Khan was providing energy/souls to the realm above all.. The True Heaven.
Soo happy to find soo much souls gathered in one place and enjoying the video above which includes Doom lore one of the best lores of all time for me personally! Keep going More Loregasam 😂😅
Doom3 came out when i was 10 and i was absolutely into this new style of doom because it was the first time since RE3 that i got really spooked. The graphics at that time looked basically photorealistic. The atmosphere and pacing of the game was well made to create lots of tension. Its not the most popular doom to play nowadays because its not all that about action but i very much miss games like that and quake 4.
Can we talk about how thia guy not only spent countless hours researching the Doom games along with the alternate media (books + movies) and compiled all of it into a 3 hour long video, BUT PUT SUBTITLES ON IT?! Like, the dedication, man!
I like how that by the time of DOOM3 the writers had to resort to alternate timelines within the same universe. And then the 2018 Doom leaned into it by declaring the main protag is the same original doom guy but in the new timeline that seems to have splintered as a result of him being flung back by the mother of demons. So there's three universes and three protagonists but they do not necessarily have each their own timeline. Also I like how it is implied that that despite Earth being in alternate timelines, the Paradise and Hell are still the same for all timelines which technically binds all three narratives together in a sense.
Alternate timelines/universes were not a thing in the original Doom and Doom 3 games. Doom 3 is just retelling Doom 1's events in a more modern engine and is truer to what Id Software envisioned the original Doom to be.
@@pavelvers3156 Earth in Eternal is the same Earth from Doom 2? So it got invaded twice but Eternal makes it out like it's only happening for the first time. They really messed the timeline up.

lol, weird praise. "Monger" has a negative connotation too, so this weird ass comment is almost a back-handed compliment. ANYWAY, Skyrionn consistently produces great lore in-depth lore videos and ALREADY has 165k+ subs, so I would he is already well respected.

That's cool and commendable when you pivot into the original game's story and start using low fidelity stuff to explain the story while trying to keep with the look and feel of the old games. Good work!

I also run this channel alone, so all the videos are solo projects. This was a love letter to a series I love. I'm glad you enjoyed it! Most of the footage was from the game with a lot of effort with photoshop, after effects and premiere pro. Thanks again!

I got chills during this !! This was incredible. Doomguy/Doomslayer is the embodiment of "You cannot stop him, you can only hope to contain him." He saved earth, just to get stuck in hell for countless years, just to get sent back in time, too fight for a long forgone alien race who crowned him the champion of their people, just to get locked in a sarcophagus because they LITERALLY couldn't kill him because of his rage and ambition, just to be awakened by a dormant GOD/MAYKER of the universe- when they needed him most. What an amazing story and thank you Skyrionn for telling it. And Thanks Doomslayer for kicking ass for millenniums to come !!
@@Skyrionn I will patiently await the next big one! I've watched all your other DOOM videos + some others. Ya do great work, and it is very helpful that you don't use an annoying "TH-cam" voice for your narration. Again, thank you for your hard work!
This was incredible! I've never been the biggest fan of Doom-style gameplay, so I never really got into any of them beyond Doom 3 which I rented on a whim and then proceeded to get stuck with during a week-long snow storm. Never had any idea there was this much lore going on behind-the-scenes! What an amazing feat of world-building that came out of a super basic shooter whose creators themselves admitted didn't really have a story. I wonder what John Carmack thinks of this whole universe 😂
I just finished Doom Eternal today and it took me an hour to finish the damn Dark Lord. I looked for a good supplement of the lore to remind myself of what had previously happened again (lol I've savored this game like Fallout, GTA Series, RDR, and singleplayer games. I always feel that games are literally artform and a great way of storytelling.) This is the first game (Doom 93') though I got nauseous and played this game without any sounds but still was able to finish myself without any help from anyone. I was confused and disappointed though that the ending is that I only got overrun by tons of demons in the end. Thank you for fully connecting by your dedication and following to this lore as I watched this to video to bring more clarification and cohesiveness. I played on a slow Windows 98 when everyone was having Windows XP. Back then I admired people who could get a decent computer to play Counter-Strike and GTA Vice City. Doomguy/Doom Marine/Slayer is truly one of most badass yet tragic characters in video games. He deserves a happy ending. Also anyone else kinda want a crossover teamup of Slayer and Doom3Guy and/or ROE Marine?
The tragic characters are sadly the ones with nothing to lose and will do anything to stop the people that hurt them. I'd love to see a team up of them.
Doomguy/Slayer is quite the tragic character much like kratos or scorpion they all had a wife and child only to lose them in a tragic situation that left them scared and wanting revenge Which is why Doomguy/Slayer should had been reunited with his wife, son and pet rabbit daisy

Awsome video, I am a huge fan of HL and Doom and love your videos, but I do have a suggestion, a Wolfenstein/Commander keen video would be cool because it could help us understand the backstory of the Doomguy and why he was chosen.
Just a heads up, Hugo Martin himself said that Davoth returned at full power and was further amped by the mech suit. Look up Hugo Martin Doom Eternal playthroughs
@@Skyrionn he is. It's just that Doomslayer is basically a balancer against him if that makes sense. He wanted everyone to fear the end, so he wanted to basically rub it in before just ending everything. But since Slayer is basically immune to his reality warping, he had to fight him before he could do anything. Where's the pleasure in revenge if you can't take the time to savor it sort of deal. On top of that Slayer was stated by Hugo Martin to canonically absorb the power of EVERY single foe he's defeated. And to have the ability to amplify his weapons to ridiculous degree. He stated he didn't show anywhere CLOSE to the Slayers actual levels of power, because it would have made the game insanely boring. I mean, where's the fun in someone who one shots everything and is practically untouchable? Fun is in challenge. He did show battlefield removal and time manipulation during the fight however. Hugo also stated that Slayer would be back in the future, but following a more Lovecraftian path. And that he would be facing even greater threats

The exposition of the last couple of Doom games flew over my head, and this excellent lore video is well-appreciated. I will say that I still prefer leaving the backstories vague. To me, the games have always been much better with a less-is-more approach when it comes to its story.
I felt the same after I finished Eternal and Ancient Gods for the first time. It's a lot of information to uncover while ripping and tearing. I personally love more of a story but I know this is something that has split the community.
@@Skyrionn I don't mind a bit of narrative myself. But for games like Doom, I think it's best to leave certain things to the imagination. But I will say that I do like the way the original games are connected to the N64 title and its DLC and he's ultimate fate as the Doomslayer.

This was a great Christmas present. Thank you. The doom lore is often overlooked.
I agree. The story is fantastic!
there is a type of person that ignores the doom story, lmao
Just when we needed him the most, Skyrionn is back with more lore for me to fall asleep to
Thanks for watching!
one does not sleep to doom lore
One must be aware
Falling asleep to this was my plan too. I failed. It was too amusing to read. All I can think is that Hell just keeps trying. Over and over.
😂😂😂
Anyone remember the often forgotten, turn-based Doom RPG? It was a mobile game that came out in 2005. The plot seemed to take elements from the first three games. It was actually rather fun and used many of the weapons and sound effects from the original Doom. There were hidden doors and secrets in each level. It even kept the first-person viewpoint.
I kept my old barely functional LG phone for years after I cracked the screen just to play Doom RPG. Wasn't able to find it on any other platform after that.
Anyways, great video Skyrionn! It took me down a Doom-themed memory lane.
I have doom rpg 1 and 2 on my phone right now.
Was that the one where you use a spear to badly injured a giant demon and that said demon went back to hell and become rhe Cyberdemon that we all know in Doom 1 and Doom 2 games?
That's actually wolfenstein RPG@@thegoodwin
@@Officer-Balls , yes
Damn they had moible games like that in 2005
I want to say since I haven't seen anyone acknowledge it:
THANK YOU Skyrionn so much for putting proper subtitles!
Happy to help! We have to send love to Doom 3 and ROE. They're great in their own way.
As someone just bought doom 2016, I can't wait to hear a lore break down of stuff I'm pretty sure I missed.
It's such an amazing story.
lol most of this isn’t in 2016 I think. Most of this is in Doom Eternal. Hopefully you skipped around a little!
Almost none of this is 2016. It's all doom eternal and especially its DLC
I almost feel like the entire Doom story is a parody. Like they thought "no one plays Doom for the story so we're just gonna throw a bunch of contrived bs in and people can read into it if they want to". So it's there, but just in the background but ultimately doesn't matter.
Oh I've read into this so deeply 😂 The doom gameplay is great I personally love a good story!
You kind of just described world building as a thing in its entirety. Don't know why you dislike it, but you do you
@@sheehase Never said I disliked it.
I guess this is why people disliked Doom 3 heavily as it pushed the arcade shooter to the side and became more of a Thriller Story driven story
Personally tho I like stories in games and I love Dark and disturbing stuff so Doom 3 became my favorite game after a I beat it
It's up there in S tier with every other Doom game
This is what I needed! I haven't even played any of the games, but I was interested in the lore and now I can finally fully understand it
You're in for a wild ride.
Oh you gotta play these games. They're legendary. Doom eternal really impressed me when I played it for the first time this year.
And somehow you don't think it's time to go get and play all the titles in this timeline's order? 🤨😏😎👌
It’s really interesting how similar the DOOM and Half-Life stories are. Both are about a secret research facility and accidentally causing an inter-dimensional invasion of Earth.
Half-Life was very much inspired by DOOM. It makes sense why the fandom loves both series
You do know Half-life runs on Dooms source code so doom is Half-life's dad they added physics to the engine
Where do you think Half-Life got it from? There are definitely worse works to be inspired by for sure.
i used go think doom lore was just a throwaway of confusion and unconnected plot points, with a generic world and history, but oh my god this video changed my mind, i didnt know the story went so DEEP, i love all the stuff about the maykrs and argen d'nur, this was a great video, my only confusion is when will the dark ages take place
The new game will be happening between the Extra Levels of Doom 64 and Doom 2016.
(CONTINUE IF YOU DARE)
This is extreme speculation and it sounds like Fractile Storyline theory, but...
I had the same thought. I noticed the bulbs properly when exploring the Tomb of Souls. I'm hoping we get another DOOM game to explore this.
Hugo, brilliant chonky bastard!
That's a good line!
😍😍😍
I really liked doom 3 and the story
Maybe not as much as eternal but I appreciate how unique it is
You should read the Doom 3 novel adaptation by the game's writer; Matthew Costello.
They are called Worlds On Fire and Maelstrom
Doom3 came out when i was 10 and i was absolutely into this new style of doom because it was the first time since RE3 that i got really spooked. The graphics at that time looked basically photorealistic. The atmosphere and pacing of the game was well made to create lots of tension. Its not the most popular doom to play nowadays because its not all that about action but i very much miss games like that and quake 4.

Ok
On Stream, Hugo Martin stated that Earth from Doom Eternal = Earth from Doom 2
@@pavelvers3156 Earth in Eternal is the same Earth from Doom 2? So it got invaded twice but Eternal makes it out like it's only happening for the first time.

I know the people involved with All the Visuals could have of course made things better but for a great artist/editor/etc, there always comes that time when you have to move on even though your fighting yourself to want to make everything perfect and it usually leads a (feedback loop) where you could spend hours on something so small like...how much contrast should this shot have or with Audio (My Expertise), If I let my brain do what it wants I'll spend an entire night, sitting there tweaking one effect for my Guitar Tone that I would still not 100% happy about! @@Skyrionn I don't mind a bit of narrative myself. But for games like Doom, I think it's best to leave certain things to the imagination. But I will say that I do like the way the original games are connected to the N64 title and its DLC and he's ultimate fate as the Doomslayer.
I'm so stoked for you! That's so cool you get to stand along side your heroes. Now I'm even more keen to play the game when it come out
Christmas came early this year! Thank you Skyrionn!
Merry Christmas!
@@Skyrionn Merry Christmas to you too!
Wish I had more time to watch this! I've been watching for a week and I'm only an hour and some change in. Excellent vid and quality! SUBBED
Just keep coming back :) Thanks for the support!
Wolfenstein exists in Doom's universe in some way.
Just a quick thank you for all the work you put into this. Doom lore is incredibly rich & complex, had some catching up to do and this vid was just perfection !
So Doom 64 is more Doom 3 than Doom 3.
I cant believe you have only made 2 timeline videos, man i love these 2 videos i wish you just made these types of videos for everything
Yes I have been waiting for this
Enjoy!
You know it has been hard to actually understanding the plot of doom 1&2, doom(2016)&Eternal all the while I was slaying those demons, collecting the keys and just beeing a badass... thank you for putting this together. I'm really shocked to see how big and exoansive the lore ui 😮. It was just awesome to see and hear. Stiching all these games together was no easy task.
It is probably the most stressful and hardest video I have put together. It was absolutely worth it! Thanks for watching!
@@Skyrionn And yet you took your time and delivered something this big, informative and absolutely epic ( and trully worth a watching for every Doom fan out there) as this. You even included games I did not know existed like Doom RPG 1&2. Now thats dedication friend. Thank you for responding and keep the good work :).
Subscribed! 😇
Wait so doom 2016, doom eternal and the ancient gods part 1 & 2 take place after doom 1993, doom 2 hell on earth, final doom and doom 64 while doom 3 and doom rpgs are in there own timelines
Yea basically.
This video is an amazing work of art. I cannot help but be amazed at the sheer amount of detail that is present in this and the amount of work put into it. I started with DOOM 2016 and nothing made sense except to kill demons and effectively everything else in the way. This has given me a deep insight into the entire series and I am so pleased that I spent time to watch this in its entirety. Kudos!
Thanks for watching it. I appreciate the time you put into it!
Doom is the kind of game where you can make the dumbest storyline you want while playing and the main story somehow makes less sense.
Great job man. I love the new lore added with the most recent two games, and your videos lay it out very well. Oh, forgot to mention, I can't believe you fit the Doom RPG games into the timeline. Lol, somehow it fit well. Thanks again.
Hey! It was a really tough one to put into the correct order but it finally worked like a jigsaw! Thanks for watching!
Omg i forget Commander Keen is canan in the doom universe!
I love your vidoes dude. They're so well crafted and your narration is unique and smooth. Dont ever quit youtube or I will too 😂 Happy Holidays!
Thanks for the super kind comment. I'll continue to make these videos. I love lore and exploring these worlds!
So doom slayer is the boss
Feels like - John Wick was like - if the doom slayer can kill the multiverse over a rabbit and no one got pissed John can take out a few 100 bad guys over a dog lol.
This was a great video - thank you - I liked and subscribed because of this video 🎉
So in short doom lore is about highly god beings always making chain of bad decisions in good faith and doom guy always need to clean there mess up
Basically yeah
Please keep making more video's this long. It's really nice to listen while i fall asleep
"Betrüger" is german for 'con man' or in a wider sense 'scammer'. So the name is really on the nose
You did great in compiling and detailing every information about Doom storylines. It made me watch it bit by bit!! Thank you for making this
