Wayne’s lines are sublime… to my ears he’s experimenting with a unique creative approach to what is surely an unfamiliar rhythm section. I love the piano solo especially.. like he’s inspired to come up with a creative response to Wayne. ( Can you imagine the challenge of being booked to play a live tv show with the leading US sax player of the time who was in full creative flow with unparalleled Miles,Ron, Herbie,Tony ex Art Blakey) .. the Norwegian trio does admirably - and the result is a really wonderful unusual document … thanks for uploading
OHH THAT'S MY DEAR STEPFATHER ON PIANO!!!- RUNE AND HIM WORKED FOR YEARS- I GOT TOKNOW WAYNE IN -73 ... AND NOW THEY ALL MEET AGAIN...NICE TO HEAR THIS...
Wow, this is terrific. I love hearing these old recordings of American musicians playing with European rhythm sections; outstanding players who brought something unique to the table. I’d love to see this whole performance. Another fantastic post.
I always find it fascinating to listen to the contrast of the giants in American jazz playing alongside European rhythm sections as opposed to their usual American counterparts. The difference is startling. Of course, I tend to favor the all-American lineups (being an American myself). But, to my ears, there was always a sweetly romantic way that the average European musician from that era (mid 50s into the mid 70s) had of approaching the music. Not as hard charging (of course there were exceptions) but with just a touch more delicacy.
Thanks for posting, never saw this footage before. Wayne sounds great as usual but this rhythm section dragged the tempo quite a bit and they're kind of skittish.
yeah, thats what happens when you throw a group of musicians together like this. it ends up sounding more like a jam session, which is fine, but it really shows how important group chemistry is in jazz
Think Wayne is sloppy he’s waiting for some Etherial moment to project his playing into another dimension but not happening the technique isn’t there to capture it
Great stuff.

Best sax performance on Green Dolphin Street. The masterful creation of melody of Wanye is beyond everything known to date on the matter.

This incredible to hear and see his approach during this timeframe and how he navigates this rhythm section. Thanks for sharing!

They're cookin' here. No doubts about it. These 4 guys on swinging in a solid groove that's hard to beat. Wayne knows what's up. They all know.
Rip, Wayne Shorter.
Wayne Shorter died yesterday… So long, giant…
Good night sweet prince

Love Wayne. So natural

Une culture; une technique, et une oreille monstrueuse, mais on a toujours l'impression que son anche est cassée.
This is so nice, but Miles' and Tranes' versions are top of the food chain. The phrasing, the tone, Bill Evans w Miles.

Not exactly the best jazz performance ever
