I have been trying to expose my now adult children to real music and real musicians for their entire lives. But what I have learned is that these compositions cannot be explained. They have to be experienced. This is a Master Class of Music and Rhythm. What I also really enjoyed was the way that these artists marveled over each other. Herbie Hancock is a World Treasure.

Either you feel it or you just don't. I, myself, don't understand how people can't get into a good groove. I don't know how or why, so I can't explain.

some music is the vessel for the soul of an idea, other's are just noise.
Taylor swift and lil uzi are noise.
some people have the trait to hear the living (alive) part of the music and other's just think it sounds nice. In reality the creation of music like this with the minds of the player intertwined is like the birth of a new life form, if you can hear it you know what im talking about.
music is not subjective, people are. A musician cannot control what he creates, in the sense of the source of their creativity. I hope anyone stumbling across the above comment sees this to maybe understand where we are coming from.

Now the fronts of war are two. Ukraine and Palestine. I dream a world ruled by music. No more wars only music and dancing, hand in hand, all colours, all races, all religions.

I feel like Marcus doesn't get as much respect as he should because of the slap bass stuff with Miles and the smooth jazz sound - when in truth he's really the goods, and he's ALWAYS been a proper bass player and a disciplined, humble, and positive person. I dig Marcus.

Am pretty sure a big part of that is his Buddhist practice. Though he's into the Nichiren (and not Sōtō) school, he it impresses me how he always keeps that Beginner's Mind sort of fresh, playful attitude to the pieces.
(Source: read his autobio "Possibilities" recently. It's a great read, incidentally.)

@@williamshakespeare9815 Perhaps it is *now*. As a casual lay Buddhist, I can vouch for there being an inclination or a bend towards seeking to cultivate and maintain one's original attitude or Beginner's Mind towards things in general. E.g., to see things without the usual emotional or value judgements / other biases attached. Moreover, I did read his autobiography and he does talk about this a few times throughout the book. If you've some other source for your claim I'd appreciate knowing of it as I'd be glad to glad to read it as well, thank you.

It's all about the music: the feel motivator, the now in improvisation, an organic process being creative right in front of your eyes with real musicians real instruments plugged in for your entertainment, from the first to the last note. Herbie always cutting edge w/unexpected rhythms with world rich influence, delving into past memories with a "dash of scat" and sharing with us driving beat and rhythms and lilting melodies that will both rock you out/then melt you in your seat with this rare band performance. Twenty five minutes in a French horn solo that transcends you higher, to a place where Herbie stands on key. This, is Essence of jazz music and a touch of the beginnings master class funk to make you "Busta-move". Enjoy the ride and watch your head.

Been living in Japan 40 years now, seen a lot of Pat Metheny and I think three performances by Herbie Hancock ... Mt. Fuji Jazz, Select Live Under the Sky, and Tokyo Blue Note, but unfortunately not this one. So glad it is on TH-cam now. Even now, early HeadHunters and especially the V.S.O.P. album are my go-to listens when driving down the expressway to the seas southwest of Tokyo. My closest brush with greatness was sitting about 3 meters from Herbie at the old Tokyo Blue Note before they moved to a larger venue. Actually shook hands with him after the show.

I lived there from 97 to 2018 and I absolutely loved the music scene there. I never got to see any of the Live under the Sky or the Mt. Fuji shows. I had the pleasure of seeing the original Head Hunters in 98, RIP Paul Jackson. I saw Mr. Marcus Miller at the original Blue Note with his touring band at the time with Hiram Bullock RIP and Poogie Bell. The new Blue Note is great but the old one had that flavor. Pit In in Shinjuku was another hang as well for locals. I miss those drives on the Shuto. Cheers!

I've literally watched this about 113 times. But every time we get to the @42:00 and they go into Actual Proof, I have to put my hands on my head to keep it from exploding. They groove so hard and Marcus puts his thing on Paul Jackson's already nasty bass line.. its almost too much for me. Wah Wah adding that extra "sauce." Queen Terri Lynn in the back wreaking havoc...I probably would have passed out seeing that live! Man what a joy that must have been!

It’s been 8 years since I came across it and it has stuck with me ever since. I’m struggling to choose between this and good pussy. The innuendos, the expressions, the symphony, the attention to details is unbelievable.
I’m yet to come across a better performance on this internet ever since. Words fail me. It is beyond surreal.

BOSTON GLOBE JAZZ FESTIVAL Headhunters w Wah Wah Watson 77' or78' Sonny Rollins on the bill as well as Gato Barbieri. headhunters had to hold up starting the set because you could see in the dark somebody up front was smoking something. Turns out was Wah Wah sitting out in front They did an encore or two and finished up with a bang and everybody was bowing and exiting the stage. Wah Wah Watson got halfway up, pause for a millisecond and sat back down and played all by himself. After a while bass player came back out and they continued to jam. after a while the drummer came back out. Little by little the whole band was back on stage jamming. Everybody who was on the bill came out at one time or another together, solo etc. and the band played on with one loooong badass jam. they had to announce that the Trains and busses were about to end service for the night. A few hundred of us stayed through the whole jam. which ended around 1:30 AM. Most of us milled around for a bit in total awe of what we had just witnessed and heard. Thank You Wah Wah Watson!

Herbie, Miles, Mingus are just a few intimate gatherings I caught in Denver/Boulder in the mid-seventies!
    I didn't know how blessed I was!

Wah Wah Watson was legendary. I love these Herbie Handcock videos on TH-cam. Great stuff. Herbie's work stands the test of time because it is so very ahead of it's time.

The energy of this joint seduces your spirit here astral lite! Roy Hargrove’s trumpets solid crisp notes shined & penetrated the air as Marcus Miller’s base responded deeply to Herbie Hancock’s electric keyboard conversation. The mystique created as the African brother spit words with multiple meanings captures all 5 senses. the natural rhythm of ancestors whose mumblings could be heard in the background led to the fire that evoked electric explosions of sound! It hit!
