I do a sweep of the channel several times a day, but these naughty bots have been going wild lately. Anyway, thanks for watching and have a great weekend. 😃

That crispness on half life 2 though. Feels like we might reach "indistinguishable from reality" VR graphics sooner than thought possible not too long ago. Half the reason I try and keep healthy is to live long enough to see it tbh

@@waffleten9750 yes, thats a screenshot. Like i said theres more to making something look realistic than just resolution and textures. Everything changes when it needs to actually be in motion.
I also cant believe anyone that actually plays video games would look at a RDR2 screenshot and cant tell that its not real life with that low res ground covering and lods.
games still have a long way to go in terms of basically everything involving humans and lighting. And environmental animations. And waiting for PC hardware to get the point where you can basically render a CGI movie in real time

Well, a considerable drop in frame rate going from 4k to 8k is not exactly surprising. Most people misunderstand and think that 8k is simply double the pixels of 4k, but it's not (as you mentioned earlier). So you essentially have about 16x as much data that must be processed in 8k mode versus 1080p and about 4x as much as data to be processed over 4k mode (1080p is about 2MP, 4k is about 8MP, and 8k is about 33MP if you put this into megapixel terms). The other thing is that GTA V was likely not written with 8k displays at the time (most likely for 1080p and 4k) so the video card most likely has to do some extra work "upscaling" the game to 8k at the same time. The size of GTA V and the amount of AI (over other games, like Counter Strike) is also probably quite high, even though GTA V is about 7 years old now. At the time, it was a pretty large and demanding game (and depending on who you ask, it may still be).

I'm no expert. And seeing it go to less than 200 FPS at the first resolution made me horrified over how low it would go later. I've seen some GPU tests get over 400 FPS.
Another thing to test the capability is to set a fixed frames per second. Having it dynamic costs performance so keeping it steady could help performance a good bit more. Maybe.
I wonder how indie pixel games with stunning colors and beautiful lighting effects would look on this screen. Terraria could look amazing.

I think the problem this card having in 8k comes from the fact that it only has 4 pci-e lanes. Like hdmi 2.1 has 6 GB/s bandwidth and pci-e 4.0 x4 has only 8 GB/s so just the textures must be taking at least half of that bandwidth.

I've been taking my pc away from my desk and monitor recently to see if I can run 4k. My gpu is a 6600xt. The results have been surprisingly good. Project cars paired with my trusty g27 wheel, will run fine with full settings. The biggest surprise was god of war with fsr 2.0 on quality settings. With original to high settings, I'm getting a solid 60fps. I honestly can't tell the difference between native 4k and the upscaled 1440p, which fsr 2.0 quality uses. Looks like I'll be doing this more often. It works!

It can't even best a 5700XT, AMD's last gen midrange, and costs about as much at retail even without scalping, otherwise known as stagnation. 3070ti performed worse than a 6800 and cost more. 6500XT needing PCIe 4.0 or it'd be even more of a failson than it already was. 6400 just cost too much, otherwise it'd be "fine." @Raven4K I mean who though? GTX 1630 was literally a scam for gamers. Or more specifically, a piece of crap to stick in the "high end" model of Amazon "gaming PCs" rather than the "midrange gaming PC" with a GT710 and a light strip glued to it.
So I think it depends on the model. I mean, they're a soulless, bloodsucking corpo, so of course they'll make every criminal cent they think they can get away with if they think the fines will be cheaper than the profits. It's just that some are so horrible value it astonishes me that anyone even still charges that kind of money, let alone buys them. The 3050 @ $380 USD was just astonishing to me. It's not even a miner's card. It's *not even a good time to mine* and yet newegg was selling it for that, when the RX 6600 was $280. This is partly why I ended up making fun of gamers, when I realized they're all sincerely idiots and not just children. The GTX 1630 is a $70 card and the 3050 is a $170 card and that's being generous. Considering the 980 was $550 not even that long ago, I'm in my right to nail nVidia to the wall without restraint for this when we can clearly see the skeezy shit they've not only pulled now but been pulling the longest time. Trying to bull channels into emphasizing RT while they're selling to miners with already bad products by gaming standards was just the icing on top. What's saddening and ridiculous to me is that somehow these guys got cucked so hard by nVidia into thinking their products are worth something like that, when the sole reason nVidia sold so well this gen is because Ampere was a better mining card--which btw using that logic is why RX 5700XTs sold for $1,000 USD but would you be willing to pay that much for a last gen midrange AMD? Of course not. So I wish they'd get it through their heads how horrendous a scam for bad hardware nVidia has been at this point for many years now, because it's always been nVidia trying to push the overton window as far as possible on normalizing new car tier prices for a midrange GPU and only are going to stop getting away with it when you refuse to pay for it.
That's part of why I switched to AMD last gen and have been laughing ever since, from the bad drivers and POSCAP issues to 3090s setting themselves on fire on and on, while my non-SLI Taichi model only rose in price to the point where it cost considerably more than a 2070s despite being a cheaper card at MSRP with mindblowingly better software. I thought a LOT how glad I was to have listened to reviewers and thought analytically and logically rather than emotionally. I would've bought a EVGA 2070s but went AMD instead and got a 1tb Sabrent Rocket boot drive with the savings in 2020. I'd have done nothing but regretted buying nVidia, as usual, even used. And yes I mined with it averaging $5/day with $10/day at certain points, so I effectively got that card for free. And no, I never cared whatsoever about DLSS it literally wasn't even a checkmark to me, and mainly wanted 2070s because the 2070 didn't have SLI. So to give the picture, as a gamer I cared more about SLI than raytracing in 2020.
I just wish people would realize by now the sole reason Ampere cost more wasn't because of RT but because of the mining and simping for a logo (and a plastic backplate with no LEDs on an 8gb card srsly wtf nVidia?) Like had I not bought my card then in 2020, I'd be considering an AMD card now just because how bad the prices are in the States for nVidia and it'd be more power efficient and smoother too. I'm so irritated by the aforementioned issues coupled with what I now know about Lovelace it's unlikely I'm going to switch back and get a 4070ti. Probly a 7800XT or 7700XT, unless by some miracle Jensen lowers prices dramatically so I can include the 1000w PSU in my budget and AMD fucks something up spectacularly at the same time (the latter far more possible than former). I mean you can't even use the RTX feature set on a 3050 Jesus Christ why are you people buying it

I installed mine into an Optiplex to make an adorable little bebbeh gaming PC, but then my main PC died and I didn't feel like pulling my 1440p monitor out.
It ACTUALLY pushed it with decent settings. 30FPS was not the most enjoyable experience I've ever had gaming, but at least the input lag was sane, which meant it was a very playable 30FPS.

8k tv at a bit of distance is just next level stuff....... do not think tv's need that resolution unless you go to 100" size.
we need pixel size just small enough at viewing distance appropriate for the display. that can be measured in ppi and add the viewing distance. i got 157 ppi at 28" away.

that's legitimately one of the problems with adoption of raytracing, we got REALLY good at faking it with rasterization that the overall visual differences aren't as stark as you might hope.
that said, as good as HL2's water reflections are, they still have some of the really severe caveats that raster reflections have e.g. disappearing when the reflected object is off screen.
