This captivating guide to the Thai people and their history details the interesting events that led the country to where it is today. In this book, you will learn about the country’s rich history, from when the first people settled the land hundreds of thousands of years ago to its modern-day role in the world. Although Thailand’s prehistory and early rulers are discussed in the book, the book focuses more on Thailand’s history after 1238, as this was the year the people broke free of the oppressive Khmer rule and adopted the name “Thai,” which means “Free.”

One of the more thoroughly researched and non bias videos on TH-cam. Besides some mispronunciations here and there, almost all of the information is correct.
I will try to list some mistakes and suggestions on top of my head.
    1. Lavo has been a city of Mon people (and later Khmer) long before Sukhothai or Ayutthaya, not just from the 14th cent. onward. After the rise of Ayutthaya, Lavo lost some significance but later was restored in the reign of King Narai in the 17th cent. as the ”2nd” capital. But after that, it was relegated again to just another city.
    2. Ayuthaya has incorporated both Buddhism and Hinduism since the early period and has developed its culture based on these 2 religions on top of the old Animistic ritual core. not just Buddhism or Hinduism as stated in the video. All of these beliefs can still be seen in modern-day Thailand.
    3. It is still debatable that Sukhothai is the first kingdom of the Tai people in the area of what is known as Thailand nowadays because there were the kingdom of Ngoenyang and Singhanavati situated in the far north of Thailand since the 7th century. I do agree that Sukhothai's achievement of rebelling from the Khmer empire was quite remarkable and has settled the debate about its independence but I still think those northern kingdoms were also quite autonomous and can be considered real “kingdoms”.
    4. The king was obviously named “Taksin” not Taskin😅
    5. The word Tai or Thai actually means the same thing in Thai language (ไท -> ไทย). I believe the ย was added to this word first time in the Ayuthaya according to the known documents. (Still, both spellings were used interchangeably). By adding ย it gave a little quirk of Sanskrit name and had a more refined look compared to just plain ไท.
Actually, when Field Marshall Phibun suggested the word ไท or ไทย to be the new official name replacing Siam. The voting was held and ไท lost to ไทย by a small margin and then Thailand became Thailand officially.

This is wrong information. Although The migration came in from china but around that time there is also other migration of other natives within the region of Southeast Asia who finally joined in with the local habitant who was already there well before the movement.
This part of information is now confirmed by the archaeologists team from all over the world on site studies that revealing more and more as they dig up and discovered cities and kingdoms some of which is much older than the Khmer. Particularly within the last 10-15 years in scientific research evidences which provided many proven results about the Thai older ancestral group going back as far as between 4000-6000 years. The latest discovery found which recently became UNESCO world heritage site in 2023 under taravadee period that is 1800-2200 years old and its known as the Sri-thape Kingdom.
So Thai are not all Chinese. Thai is the group of people coming together settling in one area around the central plain under the name of free people of the land or land of the free before it became a town, city then kingdom and finally empire. This is because around that time there were so many war lord and tribes dotted all over from north to south of the area or country trying to overtake & overthrow the most precious resources which is peoples.
DNA tests collection is a good way to determine who the Thai really are. The results shown only small Chinese DNA to that of India and others of the older bloodlines. The Thai need to stop believing old biased history that written up by others western. It is the right time to re write history using more facts from proven science along with the historical relevant evidences kept in records from passerby who doesn’t just came from European continent. Otherwise, everyone will keep saying that Thai is Chinese.
This is the same belief about the homo sapients, as science gets better the advancement already shown that they weren’t the only developed first form of human form Africa. In fact Southeast Asia have your own too. Do search it up, it is very interesting.

Thailand had been colonized many times, well their kingdoms. Thailand is a reunion of all Tai-Siamese and some Mon kingdoms merged together. Those small kingdoms were colonized by Cambodia and Burma many times. The first Thai kingdom (Sukhothai) was a Cambodian province that gained independence. Not just that but the Toungoo Empire (modern day Burma/Myanmar) once ruled over the whole of Siam (a Tai-Siamese kingdom).
