Did you know that Thailand is the only country in Southeast Asia that a European power has not colonized?
Thailand has seen its fair share of struggles. Today, the Thai government struggles to find its place in the world, oscillating between democracy and authoritarian regimes. Even though its name translates to “Land of the Free,” it seems the country has some trouble living up to that name.

Thailand is the only other place I'd like to live.
I spent a month there in 85 visiting my Dad and sometimes wish that I would have moved there.
And really should go back to enjoy the great country that it is.

Thank you very much, from a Thai, for recognizing and give the credit where it dues i.e. to our forward thinking Kings 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Our Kings and the monarch have been the core institution that bring development and unity to Thai people.

It's a shame that despite all their contributions the royal monarchs past and present have brought to the land, That the current powers want to destroy and remove the monarchy. These people are not true thais at heart.

British send they Ambassador, Sir. John Bowring (who remarkable succeeded in Hong Kong from China) for Re-Negotiation to Siam and then after signed the treaty, Siam appointed him to be the Siam's Ambassador to Europe! /// Once again of good examples about "Diplomacy" of Thailand.

Siam in colonial era followed the Japanese model, when Japan got threatening from America. After that Japan started to reform the country to be more westernised.
That's the same model to Siam in that time.
King RamaV said the great phrase " We will act like them(Westerners) but we will never be them"

A bit of luck was there: Located between the sphere of influence of two colonial powers helped, as neither power wanted the other to grab it because it was too valuable to both sides. Kind of like what happened to Iran at around the same time.

Actually the French tried pretty hard. It's a mix of luck of being a natural buffer zone, but some shrewd deplomacy went into making it and keeping it that way, and the fact that Siam was just united and strong enough to defend itself from the faraway European powers unwilling or unable to commit more forces to its conquest.

Nothing about luck. Do you really think that the British and French couldn’t talk to share the land?. The buffer zone can be small city not the whole country. Btw Siam or now Thailand lost like half of their land to save their ass from the colonizer both France and British

The word buffer means that there are at least two coordinated forces that act as buffers.
The truth in past history Colonial hunter nation, Hunting territories all over the world. There was negotiations between the colonizing countries or they cooperated in the hunt. to get that land, Most of them will agree to demarcate the border...
Thailand colonized by colonizers At least two nations entered into colonization, which shows that Thailand had more pressure than many colonial nations that were successfully colonized by only one colonizer.
But, In the case of Thailand Despite the intervention of colonists from many nations It's still not successful.
Therefore, the word buffer is a strategy that Thailand has established. Let the colonizers be fooled. They cannot use the method of conspiring to colonize Thailand as successfully as colonists have done in the recorded history of the world.
    It's not any superstition.

Siam Ayutthaya ended in 1767 at the ploy of the British espionage and Burma. For that the British betrayed the Burmese and partnered with the babysitted Chakri Dynasty to colonize Burma and divided the land of Ayutthaya into Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and Malaya.
You need not to colonize a former superpower after you had broke it apart and get to anoint your proxy as the succeeding monarch.
