Sketchup to Layout works great for this, but Sketchup is kind of a pain to work with otherwise, and these days everyone wants us to use and learn blender anyway that I figured it made sense to do my next project in Blender and Photoshop vs Maya and Photoshop. Found your video trying to find the best way or tool to make a floorplan or scene easier to slice and have done and ready to go for print/orthos. This looks great and so cool it's free!

They load with a default white texture, so if you want any specific materials for rendering that is best done using blender's built in asset browser, I can do a video on taking an Ifc file model and prepping it for presentation, but I just wanted to get the drawing and modelling tutorials out since there arent many videos that deal with that with BlenderBim

Great question, at the moment you can select the start point and also set the wall length, so that should do what you are asking, the thickness of the wall is determined by the wall 'type'(100,200,300,etc). It can be edited in the Ifc material editor, it is a bit complicated so I am busy making a vid with that included but if you want more detail you can ask the question on the OSArch community thread: community.osarch.org/discussion/1206/blenderbim-beginner-tutorial-floor-plan-in-20mins-youtube-tutorial#latest

Thank you very much for these great tutorials. I am trying to recreate our home in blenderbim and it really works quite well. Unfortunately, when I try to change the door swing in object mode by mirroring as you do it via a rotation, it messes up the whole object. So it does affect not only the 2d representation. Do you have any advice on this? I am looking forward to your next videos. Thanks again!
1) If you want to affect the 2d representation alone go into edit mode, that will change all doors of that 'type', 2) if you want change the direction (out or in) of the door swing that is best done in object mode. (you can now do this easier with 'Shift F' to flip the door, things change fast haha) 3) If you want two door different swing directions (left or right) you need to save a second door 'type' with the opposite swing For now that is best practice but it will be simpler in the future
I have another question if you don't mind: What is the best way to move an already inserted door? When I try to move just the door, the cut in the wall stays the same. Is there an easy way to move the cut along the door somehow? Thanks!

Hi Lev, these doors and windows are modelled in one state, so you would need to model a separate door in an open position to achieve what you are asking

Beginner to what degree. I admit, I get ahead of myself.
@@RC_Russell_Designs It's supposed to be for those who have some familiarity with 3d programs, Blender is quite straightforward and there is a lot covering it's uses, but I think I should make that basics video aswell
@@IfcArchitect I'm familiar with programs with a more drag and drop approach. An advantage and disadvantage at the same time with a free open source software. I guess I have to break down and learn shortcuts. There are more shortcuts than there are add-ons. I'm trying to be civil than snippy.
after hit "create a drawing" the file comes out with extra doors and wall. Even the deleted walls also not updated
This seems to be a bug, I'd recommend installing a different version of Blender with just BlenderBim installed as an addon and start from scratch there, if the error persists you could report it as a bug to the github page:
github.com/IfcOpenShell/IfcOpenShell/issues
How to open/close the doors or windows easily?
Hi Lev, these doors and windows are modelled in one state, so you would need to model a separate door in an open position to achieve what you are asking
Trying to insert wall, getting a python report error. Observing a warning "No Git installed" assistance requited!
Hi @michaelpenco546 you shouldn't require Git to insert a wall, I'd recommend reinstalling your blenderbim and trying again,
You can see how to reinstall here:
th-cam.com/video/I-937k6fvKk/w-d-xo.html
Try install this latest version:
github.com/ifcopenshell/ifcopenshell/releases
If you still have issues, I'd recommend posting on the OSArch community forum where others including myself can assist you:
community.osarch.org/discussion/1192/ifctype-furnishing-set-for-plan/p1?new=1
It sounds like you might have accidentally touched the IfcGit panel, which requires git to be installed. But you dont need it so this should solve your issues.
I don't think it's a bug but if all else fails we can report it and find you a working version.
@@IfcArchitect Thanks much. I reinstalled it and so far, it is working well. Thanks again.
when I open the BIM Tool the menu does not show ifcType or else, just No IFC Class and No Relating Type, any help?
thanks
Hi Stefano, I think maybe you missed adding the Ifc4 library when you created the project, see here @th-cam.com/video/PNoOyCHa_V0/w-d-xo.html If that isn't right you can ask on the OSArch community forum thread: community.osarch.org/discussion/1206/blenderbim-beginner-tutorial-floor-plan-in-20mins-youtube-tutorial#latest and people who are familiar can help in detail including myself
@@IfcArchitect thanks for the quick reply. The URL links to this floor plan in 20' video (couldn't find any info to load the library)
will try the forum 👍
Hi good people..
Thank you for this informative tutorial. But I'm having a challenge, when I click on the BIM tool, Press "N" on keyboard, it doesn't give me the click n Add refresh button.. I also can't manually l add values of length , I only have keyboard shortcut option. Can anybody help me.. Please
Hi Chris, I think maybe you haven't selected the 'tool' tab on the n panel, it needs to be selected to see the shortcuts and the buttons, alternatively you can find the buttons in the "Active tool and workspace settings" tab it's the little screwdriver & spanner icon.
If that isn't the answer you are welcome to come to the OSArch community thread and ask in detail there:

For me, I would appreciate the instruction to slow way down. Moves to fast.
please slow down for a real beginner (((
Change the options on the video I do it all the time 😊
I think this bad idea)
@lfcArchitect. Is there a place where we can only see the latest videos and on which RELEASE of BlenderBIM they refer to please. Look at some of your videos and get to a certain point and then get stuck as I don't see what you see. any longer, e.g adding sanitary from download link ( in plans 101) I see the ifc but can't integrate / grt error message. Thanks.
Hi User,
The version of blenderbim I use for each video is found in the description of the video,
Unfortunately Blenderbim is under constant development and changing quickly, I try to update videos as much as possible while covering new content but will take a new approach for the new year.
Same for me, I have been trying to use it for a few weeks now and I keep running into road blocks.. one after another. Right now when I save it doesn't save everything with correct dimensions... quite frustrating
