Not a fan of Smoke but even i kinda felt bad for him not being barely used in the story. Even if I'm not a fan of a particular character, i focus on the story and the lore and Smoke have a rich history with Kuai Liang and Bi-Han but yet their bond was barely showcased.
The Geras disrespect hurts. While yes, he is severely lacking in the department of winning a battle, his evolution of character from what we got in mk11 shouldn't be overlooked. His story of wanting to be able to choose for himself was always prevalent to him as a character. Other characters like Cetrion and Raiden acknowledged this. And we finally see that story shine in mk1.
@osirisatot19 that's kinda what I don't like, though. We're constantly told he's one of thr strongest and truly unstoppable... Only for him to be nothing more than a glorified dictionary in the game who we barely see fighting. He's just a plot device and I hate that.
@@deadlyqueen9184 I mean I feel like he was a threat in MK 11, he felt intimidating the way they just had to keep running from him until Raiden actually did something for once and trapped him. There was no reason for him to suck that hard in the DLC though; that was just bad writing.
if you listen to the intros that discuss ashrah and syzoths relationship, i feel like its pretty easy to tell that it wasnt immediate. the course of its development spans over an undisclosed amount of time post game. i do wish it got fleshed out though because i feel like the concept of them together works really well :( what i like about them is that they had to face similar struggles. both were used and abused by sorcerers who made their lives hell, both lost family as a result of it (for syzoth its his wife and son and for ashrah its her sisters who she was forced to kill in self defense). and they are both outcasts from society, both living among people who other them and treat them like freaks or monsters. i really like the idea of them together because out of literally everyone else in the cast, they would understand each other the best. but at the same time they both had such different takeaways. syzoths intros show that he is very proud of who he is and where he came from, ashrah is trying to distance herself from her identity and heritage as much possible. syzoth is a lot more levelheaded and thoughtful whereas ashrah is bold and impatient. syzoth lacks self confidence whereas ashrah seems very sure of herself. i think the similarity in origins but differences in mindset and personality make them a very balanced and compelling couple and i want to see them become fully fleshed out
This is a paraphrased repost of my comment from another video: I don’t mind the Ashrah/Syzoth ship on paper, but for some reason they didn’t think to add at least one scene of them together. For example, they could’ve easily had a scene at the Wu Shi Academy with Syzoth sitting off by himself grieving his family. Ashrah commiserates with him, perhaps bringing up her fractured relationship with her sister demons and how she had to cut them off (aka cut them down like you said) and how she misses Sareena or something of the sort. There, easy way to plant the seed of why they’d get together.
Sooo we're still just ignoring Lui Kang's lobotomisation of Raiden?? He's the only character who, mentally, is nothing like they were. Bro, Quan Chi is still Quan Chi but Raiden was punished the most for...
He has raidens oringal role so the new raiden ended up in his role. That’s all that happened even if the oringal raiden existed at the beginning of his new timeline he only existed at the beginning. The new Raiden is a reincarnation who recently came back. He didn’t create the new Raiden he didn’t do much outside the broad strokes with the universe.
@@foreignroninl1555 which was the point of a lot of details shared between the lui kang ending of 11 and some of the details/hints shared in the story itself. Lui Kang gave everyone a choice and he’s blamed for everyone’s choices when he did his best to give most people at worse decent lives, while putting his hated villians through hardships. He’s also a newbie at this which is why he wanted to try again which Gerus warns him about and is why Lui kang gave the job to him. Gerus understands the job better than him and can keep the problems from being worse.
I have to agree/disagree. On the one hand this Raiden is different, but you have to remember the last Raiden was a god and had lived for centuries. However, this Raiden still values the importance of duty and is righteous. Him and Liu have flipped dynamics
that's fair but I'd argue that Bi-Han Sub Zero is a whole lot worse in that regard. I don't know why we can't let morally grey characters be morally grey anymore and instead just make them flat out evil 😞😞
Ice cold take but I would have *LOVED* Reptile and Ashrah's relationship a lot more if it wasn't so rushed. I think the pairing makes a lot of sense based on what we know about them but it would still be nice to see them bond or even interact more than twice. Now fans under the impression that Syzoth "moved on too quickly" even though the intros tell you the complete opposite.
They should’ve just left the wife and child nonsense out of the story completely. What did it actually serve? They knew they were going to have the Syzoth and Ashrah relationship so why even include him thinking up until like six hours prior to them getting together his wife and child were being held prisoner somewhere.
@@adnanjusufovic5177 doesn’t make it not rushed if you can already see the seeds of it being sown in the base game. If anything they could’ve had Ashrah be the one held prisoner and gave the two a pre-established relationship and called it a day. The nameless wife and child who tragically died is basically scorpions backstory.
@ Ok, first of all, that literally has nothing to do with what I said … and second, the reason I called them the nameless wife and son is because up until the NRS reboot that’s exactly what they were. They were always in his story we just didn’t know who they were.
@@adnanjusufovic5177 what I mean is they interacted TWICE in the entire story mode and are never seen again after chapter 7. Meaning that their entire relationship thus far happened entirely off screen
@@adnanjusufovic5177aftermath is out and they both show up at the very end and do almost nothing. They don't even acknowledge each other's presence at all.
Totally agree with you regarding your comments on Kitana. I like Mileena, I’m okay with her being empress. But the way they did Kitana dirty….There’s no balance. Wish they would have focused on her role as titan Kitana.
It’s weird because you’d think without the rivalry between them and the distinct lack of Jade’s existence they’d focus much more on the sisterhood of Mileena and Kitana. You’d also think since the base game seemed to focus so heavily on the “all new all reintroduced” theme of so many of the characters the DLC would in turn focus on the mainstays who haven’t received too much change (like Kitana). Maybe if they do another expansion she’ll finally get some time to shine.
@@mkwhite5054 I sincerely hope so. Cause I feel that Boon and co. have solely given Mileena this title of empress because of the very demanding fandom. I mean, don’t get me wrong, Mileena is and always will be amazing but there’s no need to downgrade Kitana so much.
She's the same as always tbh, she was always pretty bland. Her most interesting stuff was in MK 9 and that was just her realizing her dad was evil; which took thousands of years because she's a moron I guess.
Unpopular opinion: Takeda would be put in the but why tier list ik Takeda is there for fan service but storyline wise of him being in chaos reign is beyond questionable (Takeda’s one of my favorite characters)
I get that, Scorpion is my favorite MK character; but like what the fuck could they do with Hanzo's story at this point? We've seen it done so many times now that I don't see what else could be done with it.
@@osirisatot19 It is a difficult writing task. We've seen his story arc many times before. The main thing i could think of is would be developing new, complicated relationships with others while trying to balance his vengeful urges. It's kind of the same writing challenges that wolverine also has. I would like to see him being sent on a rescue mission into the Netherrealm to save another person's soul. While he is there, he is powerful, but he is on a time risk of getting out of there before his scorpion persona fully takes over Hanzo himself.
I feel like the handling of the characters is a consequence of the chapter-based story mode that NRS has been doing since MKvDCU during the Midway era. Maybe it's time the story mode got an overhaul in structure? Keep the chapters, but keep the focus on a select group of characters?
To be honest I agree with you about putting Smoke on "Okay, I guess". I main Tomas & I adore everything about him; including his first appearance. Although I adore him, I feel like his character throughout the story is: a "Ragdoll" being tossed 🥺. I just wished the story could've added more in-depth to his current storyline [About him being orphaned, being taken by the Lin Kuei & his brother bonds]. Overall, I like the story entirely; but it lacked some explanations. It's also heartbreaking to see how Tomas became a "Main" side character to a straight-up background character
His role is to react to Bi Han and Quai Liang, and he does that well; it just doesn't give him time to be his own person much. I honestly think he isn't in the DLC story because they were ether going to kill him off or make him a cyborg; but then decided not to.
Li Mei was almost perfect she just needed flashier designs and talk about more than cop nonsense. I still love her so much and she’ll always be my 2nd favorite character ❤ love the fu dog they gave her it was an amazing addition and expansion of her powers. Story too was phenomenal by keeping her an underdog with a sad past just like before . Mileena is my favorite character and i’m not too happy with her story. I miss the days of her being ashamed of her face and being more sinister. They also gave way too much Kitana stuff to her especially having s little bit of a bigger moment with Jerrod THANK KITANA.. Idk I also hate that her tarkat has a turn off button because of the medication 😭 glad she still is FIESTY but idk there’s a lot that her OG story gave her that made her one of the most interesting and best written characters that’s now all missing from this game.
If Raidens arch is going to end in chapter 4, I believe that the tournament and Liu kang sending the others to find Shang Tsung should have happened at the same time and along side each other as Plot A and Plot B.
After thinking about it, I feel like it would have been interesting if the new era version of Quan Chi took some inspiration from the portrayal of Quan Chi in the tv show MK Conquest. Might have made feel less like a blank slate and also given him some interesting chemistry with Shang Tsung by making them both equally charismatic and scheming, while also making Quan Chi a bit more bombastic to help contrast him with Shang Tsung. This could even carry over to Titan version of Quan Chi which would allow the new deadly alliance to chew the scenery some more. Then again, this is just my opinion.
Shao and Havik are absolute bottom tier. Kitana currently has zero character herself, she’s just background window dressing. I’d rank Johnny Cage very low as well due to how annoying he is every time he opens his mouth.
I feel like for Kitana, she's missing something and that's jade. Since Kitana doesn't know Jade that well this era I feel like once they add Jade into the story Kitana will become a great character again. This is just how I feel though cause Jade was someone who always lifted Kitana well, they had that best friend like relationship that felt so real. I hope they do a good direction with Jade as they also always sidelined her so to make Kitana better as a character this era, Jade needs to have a big story WITH Kitana. I definitely see us getting these two a lot in the next game. Another one is if they ever decide to make Mileena Evil again and think that could be a good story line for Kitana as well
Despite MK 1 have many flaws im very happy on how they handle with Mileena and sindel as I agree they are at their best. And I do agree kitana shouldn’t be sidelined nor have it that Mileena has to be superior to kitana or in previous games kitana has to be superior to Mileena as both deserves to be equal even if one of them like MK 1 Mileena is seen as stronger, MK 1 kitana deserves to least be equal to her sister
I would honestly put Sektor in well-rebooted even with the genderbend... Reason?... I challenge you to find two Sektor feats in the previous timeline... It's a fact... The original Sektor were really, REALLY poor developed, bro had like... 2-4 minutes of screentime i guess. I know that people got pissed by the genderbend but, technically saying... The OG Sektor is REALLY inferior, the only thing he is better is on design, and this can change anytime...
The gender change means nothing for the character, and anyone who's bothered by it is just being silly. Also we desperately needed more female characters in this game, even with them it is still a total sausage fest.
I think Kitana should've had more of an attitude, kinda matching Mileena's aggressive personality. Two take no nonsense sisters as opposed to one that's overly aggressive and one that's ultra soft and whiny.
my honest thoughts (pls dont hate me) -Kung Lao: okay i guess -Johnny: but why, im sorry but i find mk1 johnny flanderized, i know this is the first game of the new timeline but i find him a little annoying with his mcu-style jokes and him flirting with most every female character, i find him a very big downgrade specially compared with his mkx/11 counterpart, that was best johnny period, i just hope we get sonya in the next game so we can get some glimpses of their relationship, but on the positive notes i like his bromance with kenshi and the indiana jones reference on his chapter -Raiden: good but flawled, i like his "champion" role, and i hope to see more about his potential relationship with kitana in the future, but i hope he gets his "Own character" take and not become a liu kang 2.0 -Kenshi: rebooted well -Baraka:rebooted well -Ashrah: okay i guess -Reptile:rebooted well -Sub Zero: good but flawled -Scorpion: ground zero, i dont like kuai liang scorpion.....when they announced he would be scorpion i thought it was a very interesting idea, and in the base story he is fine, but then......the whole harumi thing and how annoying he was in khaos reigns, im sorry but i dislike him, and its a shame because kuai liang as sub zero (specially in snowblind) was one of my favourite characters, but now? and unlike johnny i dont see him getting improved in future games -Li Mei:okay i guess -Sindel:rebooted well -Mileena:rebooted well -Shang Tsung: good but flawled -Liu Kang:good but flawled -Cyrax: okay i guess -Sektor:good but flawled -Noob: okay i guess -Kitana: but why -Smoke:okay i guess -Rain: okay i guess -Tanya:but why -Geras:rebooted well -Shao:but why -Nitara:ground zero (i never liked her sorry) -Reiko:ground zero (same with nitara, but i admit his ending is interesting) -Havik/Dairou: ground zero, at least his gameplay is good and i like titan havik, but base havik??? iigh...... -Quan Chi:okay i guess -Ermac: good but flawled, but i can see him in the "rebooted good" in a future -Takeda: okay i guess, he has a good story but as a fan of the kombat kids (specially cassie since she is my waifu) i find kinda weird having the group totally absent and kinda wiped off (since kung jin and jacqui aparently exist in this timeline) and his new take being a little more "serious" gives me mixed feelings, since he was more likable in mkx, but well, since he is a dlc character with no involvement in the base story they can retcon him in the future, who knows?
The way you describe Johnny is the way he is at the start of every timeline, even in the live action movie and animated movie. That's just how Johnny has to start; I think MKX Dilf Johnny was his best incarnation; but if you look at the MK11 young Johnny he's actually worse than this one. Johnny also gets a lot better after he gives the sword to Kenshi. Also the MCU complaint is so weird to me, as if the MCU invented quips and stuff like Buffy, CSI, and the non Raimi versions of Spider-Man hadn't made popular well before the MCU showed up.
Yeah, what they did to Kitana is a clear consequence of the Mileena stans. They were so loud that nrs bought the narrative that Mileena is more popular so they removed Kitana status as the female face of the game and relegated her to a side character. Really disgusting. I think Mileena is great and deserves a good place but that doesn't mean Kitana should be stripped of her prominent role
The reboot era really has it against Shao. The fact that he still remained a villain. I mean what if he was still emperor but a noble and just ruler who defeated the evil Onaga. Raised Mileena as his own and probably died instead of Sindel. Not sure if here Titan Shang or a returned Onaga should have been the main Villain. But in thr post credit scene had Midway Shao Kahn arrive at this timeline setting up story expantion.
Spot on analyses for the characters overall. Smoke and Ashrah were definitely underutilized in the story. Your analysis of Reiko was spot on - a glorified simp frustratingly so. I felt like nothing has changed with Kung Lao’s characterization. Instead of being Liu’s sidekick he is now Raidens…especially after the implications following MK11 of the Great Kung Lao for us to get this version was definitely underwhelming. I think a lot of these characters suffer lore wise in the sense that they cant all be main characters. It would be cool if NRS created world-building for each character more in-depth and called it MK: Chronicles similar to how Pokemon have episodes dedicated to Pokemon who aren’t as popular or have as much publicity.
The fact that this game has a pretty solid roster of MO Kharacters kinda sucks because pretty much all of them are either butchered or bastardized versions of their true selves.
They're just too new... You guys need to remmember that the previous characters (some 💀) had a lot of time for char development, these ones are just in the start of their lifetime... Obviously they wouldn't be levelled with the previous, at least not with the most developed...
Kronika's Geras > Liu Kang's Geras. Geras from MK11 felt like a threat, even tho he lost to Cassie and Geras isnt weak to the Cage's powers, he had a very strong showing
If Geras has been as powerful in MK1 as he was in MK 11, the weaker villains in the story up to the reveal of Titan Shang Tsung would not have stood a chance; they kinda had to nerf him. He fucking sucks in the DLC though, no getting around that.
I feel like i completely agree with this entire list, but its tough to leave reptile in okay i guess when hes the absolute best hes ever been, in his entire history. Makes me feel like he should be under rebooted well
I still miss old mortal Kombat games era because currently power scaling makes no sense in mortal Kombat games anyone beats anyone now in mk games so NRS should cut this every character chapter system mode from mk games only mk 1 - mk 4 was golden era of mk games after mk 4 mk game franchise was destroyed.
As opposed to the old power scaling of everyone loses to Liu Kang and every villain is super powerful until they lose and then are just a pussy going forward.
@@scottchaison1001 Hsu Hao is just diet Kano. And there’s already a worse diet Kano. Hsu Hao has far more relevance to the plot of DA, and he’s the only Mongolian fighter
I'm kind of sad but understandable about Reiko cause i do feel he was improved from mk4 & mka move wise, but yes story wise he is(as u called him) simp....but im just glad Liu Kang, JC, Baraka, Kenshi are not on the bottom list and yes interesting stories made....Considering Liu Kang based on Bruce-Lee is given more love in Mortal Kombat compared to Tekken story wise
Reiko was never interesting and always a simp tbh; with the exception of the supposedly non-canon comics. I do agree they did a great job with most of the jobbers not being jobbers anymore.
To me New Era Tanya was the worst iteration of the character/insulting to even refer to her as Tanya and it's because a lot of her past identity was uprooted save for very some surface-level elements. She doesn't really engage in deceptive behaviour. Even if you wanted to change her morality she could've been a spy or she engaged in covert ops for the good of Outworld, this way you honour her past of being deceitful while trying something new. As for her relationship with Mileena, In MKX I interpreted that as not being genuine at all from Tanya's POV. Her character viewer said, "what becomes of her relationship with Mileena, none can say" which imo implies that she'd probably betray her in the end, and she'd probably have some ulterior motive for wanting Edenia restored which would make more sense given her character. In this New Era, I feel like they only included that as a surface-level element to tie her into the previous rendition. I like the Umgadi as a concept but they should've at least made them look unique to Outworld instead of blatantly copying the Dormalage. Again with her fighting style, her choice of weapon, and morality they essentially made her into Jade. Which begs the question how they'll change her if she comes back. Honestly I just want another reboot and for Liu Kang's fanfiction to be deleted. Sorry for the rant, but Tanya is one my favourite characters and she was done a huge disservice imo.
You know what makes this worse? Empress Tanya acts more like the previous Tanyas. She infiltrated Havik’s citadel by pretending to be one of his generals. That’s Tanya shit. She isn’t just a warrior, she’s a spy, a secret enemy. She’ll use you for her benefit and then sell you out.
@@osirisatot19 I blame that more on the writers, than the character itself. And I strongly believe the answer wasn't to completely change everything about her. I could see the old Tanya getting a redemption arc at some point where she's more morally grey, making for a more interesting character. In my opinion, there's more potential with a duplicitous character who uses seduction and other less direct means to achieve her goals. Again they missed an opportunity with the Umgadi. She should've had something to do with the cover-up of Jerrod's murder and maybe she resents the royals. The edict of giving up first-born daughters was good because maybe Tanya felt that destiny dealt her a bad hand forcing her into a life of servitude, while many consider it an honour she wanted her freedom. She could've even been groomed by Shang and he's the one who taught her the art of deception in exchange for keeping tabs/spying on the royals. And Mk1 Tanya also felt like a jobber, I mean in the base story she is essentially there to get beat up or thirst for Mileena, that's it. They didn't even bother continuing her arc in KR and replaced her with a bullshit multiverse version.
As if he wasn't like that in MK11 until the dlc. They ether had to make him weaker in this one or get rid of him entirely; because he can't be the Big Bad every time; that just gets old.
honestly i feel cyrax and sektor should've just been 2 new characters. we have alot of paletswap male and female ninja's but not of our cybers. i wouldn't have mind that they would've been 2 new colors and being female. kinda hate genderswapping in general and especially 2 fanfavorites. are gaming and moviestudios legit afraid to invent new characters? paletswaps always worked for mk and i still have no doubt it would still work this day. look how wel tremor was received and this was a character only die hard mk fans kew about. most casual fans never heard of him before mkx.
Well gender swapping characters is just a lazy concept. It's like netherrealm isn't even trying with introducing new female characters or bringing the old ones back.
@@ultron_sigmatruthfully they could just made the duo either the sisters of Sektor and Cyrax (the women get power suits, the men undergo actual cyberization) or even the daughters of them (though we’d have to cut out that subplot romance) instead of doing the gender swap. I understand they want to introduce a more balanced cast and it’s not like Sektor or Cyrax were the most well rounded characters to begin with but this change is still fairly arbitrary and it’s true we could introduce more color palette cybers (still rooting for Tri-Borg to become its own character, Frost to be the cyber blue ninja female and Hydro to become canon as the cyber blue ninja male). Maybe they’ll introduce versions of the original Sektor and Cyrax down the line. I do have to wonder, would NRS have kept the Bi-Han and Sektor subplot romance if Sektor had been a man still?
@@mkwhite5054 People would go crazy on hate if they didn't included Sektor and Cyrax in the game again... Belive me when i say, that it would be WAY WAY worse then it is now They needed to bring them somehow, and they did a bad choice... not like i mind the genderbend anyway, even as a main-Sektor...
I think Smoke is great, but doesn't have time to shine because they give the spotlight to so many other characters, he at least has a personality and makes decisions in this game; which is more than I can say for his other incarnations. I agree about Sindel. Liu Kang is good; he succeeded in making his timeline better, even if I think he could have just killed people like Shao and Shang Tsung to make sure they didn't do what they always do, but clearly Netherrealm didn't want to rely on other villains. He also is a far better god than Raiden and can admit fault and also doesn't fuck up nearly as much or as badly as Raiden did. Mileena is peak in this game, and this is coming from someone who was tired of her after X and 11 because her fans are so fucking obnoxious; she finally gets her queen status and gets to be kind and caring, yet also murderous and crazy; perfectly balanced. Kitana is fine in this game, people say she is bland; but honestly she's always been bland. Kitana and Liu have never really had a relationship in other timelines; it always gets snatched away from them, which I think is an interesting thing about them and I liked Titan Kitana's interaction with Fire God Liu. Baraka has a personality in this game and isn't just a jobber; Baraka fans finally won. Dilf Johnny was best Johnny, but I like this one moving in a different direction and not constantly trying to relive his glory days of acting; also his relationship with Kenshi is great and if they keep the bromance (or actual romance if they weren't cowards) then I'm excited for more. Geras is still functionally a jobber; just for Liu this time; though he does have an actual personality this time and I like him being Liu's friend, so I think he's much improved from last time. How can you say Geras isn't important to the timeline when we spend a whole expansion trying to rescue him? Ermac is also actually interesting for once. Cyrax and Sektor are both fleshed out better than they ever have been, and are more complex now; to anyone complaining about the gender change, it doesn't effect the character and this game is a sausage fest even with them added. Shao being weaker in this timeline makes sense, and he ends up being a jobber in MK11 anyways; so him being the way he is in MK1 doesn't bother me, he has to be an arrogant asshole and he can't be the main villain every time, so it was ether this or not have him back at all. Tanya is also great and actually interesting for once; too bad the better version of her was from another timeline. Havik is dogshit in this game, just a jobber; and Titan Havik is fine but never really did anything other than mess up Sub-Zero so he didn't earn the threat in my opinion and was defeated too easily. Shang Tsung is pretty much who he always is, just with more of a chip on his shoulder this time. Reptile is great and finally has a personality and isn't just a jobber; 10/10. Yes, thank you; Bi Han has always been a dick, and unlike Scorpion he's always fully embraced his revenant form and even after Quan Chi's death in MKX when he shows back up in 11 he's still evil; because that's who he is deep down. Him as Noob is interesting in MK1, but the rushed as fuck ending feels like a sharp cut off point for his character and not a resolution. I like Quai as Scorpion, it gives him something different in this timeline and makes him stand out more, and it puts Hanzo not in his horrible torture and misery time loop; plus as much as I love Hanzo, that story has been done so many times that I don't see a way of doing anything new with it. Scorpion is a title just like Sub-Zero though, not from an in universe perspective; but from a player perspective. You have to have a Scorpion in your game, and when people click on that character to play that, they have to be a fire ninja that teleports and throws kunai. Kenshi is different, but familiar, I like what they did with him; I'm just sad he doesn't fit my play style in this game. Quan Chi is fine, he feels like pretty much what you'd expect. Reiko is a Shao fanboy as always, he's pretty unchanged from everything outside of the supposedly non-canon comics; he shouldn't have been in the base roster from a story perspective, though no one would have given a shit about him as DLC. Nitara is another jobber who has no point and is completely unexplored, she was just brought in for some 3D rep and because some people wanted her back, I'm assuming WB wanted a celeb to advertise and they picked one who struggles to act at the best of times, and really sucks as a voice actor; still better than Ronda though, but barely. Rain isn't interesting and his alternate timeline counterpart was far better and I wish we could have traded; making AU versions of him and Tanya for the DLC was a huge mistake because it made us get to know new and better versions of the characters that we'd never see again. The new Raiden is pretty much Liu Kang, which is fine since Liu is the new and far better Raiden. Raiden just took L after L in both previous timelines, and giving him a fresh start while giving Liu the mentor role he's more than earned is maybe the best choice of this game. Li Mei was not interesting or well done in the 3D era, she's a lot more interesting now and her move set is a lot more unique and fun; so she's a vast improvement. Lol rip I guess Takeda doesn't get a mention. He's fine; feels shoehorned in though, but I'm glad to have him back. Now I just need Fujin.
Personally, I would just throw away the new Cyrax and Sektor. The gender bending was unnecessary. New female characters could have been added, or other great female characters from past games could have returned here. But no, needlessly gender bend 2 classic characters. Trash.

what i like about them is that they had to face similar struggles. both were used and abused by sorcerers who made their lives hell, both lost family as a result of it (for syzoth its his wife and son and for ashrah its her sisters who she was forced to kill in self defense). and they are both outcasts from society, both living among people who other them and treat them like freaks or monsters. i really like the idea of them together because out of literally everyone else in the cast, they would understand each other the best. but at the same time they both had such different takeaways. syzoths intros show that he is very proud of who he is and where he came from, ashrah is trying to distance herself from her identity and heritage as much possible. syzoth is a lot more levelheaded and thoughtful whereas ashrah is bold and impatient. syzoth lacks self confidence whereas ashrah seems very sure of herself. i think the similarity in origins but differences in mindset and personality make them a very balanced and compelling couple and i want to see them become fully fleshed out
This is a paraphrased repost of my comment from another video:
I don’t mind the Ashrah/Syzoth ship on paper, but for some reason they didn’t think to add at least one scene of them together.
16:42 I guess Geras having the same voice actor as Kotal Kahn is the reason he got jobbed this bad
@@SuperGamefreak18 Yeah I always assumed that Raiden of the reboot timeline was a descendant of the Raiden of old.
Mk1 Baraka is a miracle.
As a Scorpion main. Scorpion 🦂 Not being Hanzo Hasashi Still pisses me off to this very day! Shame on you NRS! 😂👊🏻🎮🐉🦂🦂🦂✌🏻🙏🏻
Without his rage, it's just not the same. Everything about him is less intense. I feel the same way.
In my own head cannon, Liu felt pitty for Honzo and tried to engineer a happier life for him, although I don't think it is gonna work out that way
Awesome always excited to see your video as my friend
Then again, this is just my opinion.
let’s just hope the sides kitana wasn’t given a chapter cause their waiting for jade in kp3
I completely agree with the Baraka placement he is so badass in this timeline
Shao and Havik are absolute bottom tier. Kitana currently has zero character herself, she’s just background window dressing.
I’d rank Johnny Cage very low as well due to how annoying he is every time he opens his mouth.
That's always how Johnny is though.
@ He wasn’t that insufferable in 11 though. Now almost every line of his is some pop culture stuff.
@@arrownoir In 11 he was so insufferable that his future self punched him in the face.

If only they had made the reboot's iteration of Quan Chi to be the one in Mortal Kombat Conquest.
So no Takeda?
I think Kitana should've had more of an attitude, kinda matching Mileena's aggressive personality. Two take no nonsense sisters as opposed to one that's overly aggressive and one that's ultra soft and whiny.
Then they wouldn't be distinct though, that isn't an interesting dynamic.
my honest thoughts (pls dont hate me)
-Kung Lao: okay i guess
-Johnny: but why, im sorry but i find mk1 johnny flanderized, i know this is the first game of the new timeline but i find him a little annoying with his mcu-style jokes and him flirting with most every female character, i find him a very big downgrade specially compared with his mkx/11 counterpart, that was best johnny period, i just hope we get sonya in the next game so we can get some glimpses of their relationship, but on the positive notes i like his bromance with kenshi and the indiana jones reference on his chapter
-Raiden: good but flawled, i like his "champion" role, and i hope to see more about his potential relationship with kitana in the future, but i hope he gets his "Own character" take and not become a liu kang 2.0
-Kenshi: rebooted well
-Baraka:rebooted well
-Ashrah: okay i guess
-Reptile:rebooted well
-Sub Zero: good but flawled
-Scorpion: ground zero, i dont like kuai liang scorpion.....when they announced he would be scorpion i thought it was a very interesting idea, and in the base story he is fine, but then......the whole harumi thing and how annoying he was in khaos reigns, im sorry but i dislike him, and its a shame because kuai liang as sub zero (specially in snowblind) was one of my favourite characters, but now? and unlike johnny i dont see him getting improved in future games
-Li Mei:okay i guess
-Sindel:rebooted well
-Mileena:rebooted well
-Shang Tsung: good but flawled
-Liu Kang:good but flawled
-Cyrax: okay i guess
-Sektor:good but flawled
-Noob: okay i guess
-Kitana: but why
-Smoke:okay i guess
-Rain: okay i guess
-Tanya:but why
-Geras:rebooted well
-Shao:but why
-Nitara:ground zero (i never liked her sorry)
-Reiko:ground zero (same with nitara, but i admit his ending is interesting)
-Havik/Dairou: ground zero, at least his gameplay is good and i like titan havik, but base havik??? iigh......
-Quan Chi:okay i guess
-Ermac: good but flawled, but i can see him in the "rebooted good" in a future
-Takeda: okay i guess, he has a good story but as a fan of the kombat kids (specially cassie since she is my waifu) i find kinda weird having the group totally absent and kinda wiped off (since kung jin and jacqui aparently exist in this timeline) and his new take being a little more "serious" gives me mixed feelings, since he was more likable in mkx, but well, since he is a dlc character with no involvement in the base story they can retcon him in the future, who knows?
I really liked Ashrahs re design 🧚 Kitana is fun to play as so is Mileena and Tanya
My favorites are reptile and Kung Lao! In this timeline
It's funny that all 3 of the Blood element characters wound up in the bottom tier. Maybe Scarlet needs to return to redeem that catagory.
Thank you for recognizing the disrespect HAVIK got. I have no idea why they chose to go this route...
I wish liu kang had a super mode that gave him is white hair back
I feel like i completely agree with this entire list, but its tough to leave reptile in okay i guess when hes the absolute best hes ever been, in his entire history. Makes me feel like he should be under rebooted well
"tell me when im telling lies" - CM Punk
I still miss old mortal Kombat games era because currently power scaling makes no sense in mortal Kombat games anyone beats anyone now in mk games so NRS should cut this every character chapter system mode from mk games only mk 1 - mk 4 was golden era of mk games after mk 4 mk game franchise was destroyed.
Ehw... Unpopular opnion... Probably based on nostalgia...
I agree that midway era story is better... But saying it was the best era? Really?
As opposed to the old power scaling of everyone loses to Liu Kang and every villain is super powerful until they lose and then are just a pussy going forward.

The old Tanya wasn't interesting though, she was just a jobber.
They didn't even bother continuing her arc in KR and replaced her with a bullshit multiverse version.
they fucked my boy khan so bad I will never forgive them for that
As if he wasn't like that in MK11 until the dlc.

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Personally, I would just throw away the new Cyrax and Sektor. The gender bending was unnecessary. New female characters could have been added, or other great female characters from past games could have returned here. But no, needlessly gender bend 2 classic characters. Trash.
I love Reboot Li Mei, honestly I like Cyrax too
