H/T to Steve Guttenberg the Audiophiliac for covering this on his July 16, 2020 show. Very impressive sound, room acoustics sound great. Would love to hear this on my stereo in CD quality.
Philip Donovan. I’m listening on my phone. This recording style for vocals makes you want to turn it up instead of just putting a pillow over the speaker.
A écouter absolument, belle chanson, super enregistrement, superbes images, excellents musiciens et magnifique interprétation au chant . Great. Love it
Absolutely amazing sound! great recording, paying much action to volume an instrument placements/ vocals. love it! thank for your intuitive performance.
OneMic - the minimalist recording series. What else I the chain? Pres, limiter, recorder? I’m sure it would make a huge difference depending on what you use.
@@nathan7265It did the job - I have used other preamps and A/D converters for a lot of the other videos and they also did the job. I don't get into the weeds with the gear as long as it's high quality and reliable.
@@onemic-theminimalist I’m a hobbyist level recording engineer/ producer and your one mic series has really made me re-evaluate everything I’ve been doing . I found myself taking all the life out of the music when perfectly imperfect blends with minimal approach and a good room is key. I guess that’s why I’m such a big fan of 50’s music.
This is so magical. It truly reveals what music is about. When you listen to it on high end headphones it's sort of like atteding a concert where the band is playing just for you ;) One of the best series I've ever seen on TH-cam. (I have a siderite question: I got to this video because I'm interested in buying the r88. I read that you're using the millennia pre with it. I have an earthworks pre amp. That's pretty much similar, right?)
i really like the way this sounds. no more isolation booths or worrying about bleed through. if you want your music to be timeless this is the way. no production from some full sail dude. not only does this sound great, it is an impressive video. ive never heard of this band but I like what they did. its timeless. thank you to whoever uploaded this. i enjoyed it. I can think of lots of songs that would still be cool if they had been recorded this way.
@@onemic-theminimalist awesome! Love your work! I obsessed over this channel about a year ago. could never bring myself to try this method, but hope to some day!
A bit of a noob question.. how do you process the audio file in the daw to make it stereo? as I understand it records in mono? Double the track and phase shift?
Well done! Rewatched it many times already, so catchy. May I ask you, what was the mastering chain for that particular recording? Keep up the good work!
John, is it possible to hear raw audio from this recording (or any other sessions in that room) for learning purposes? 20-30 sec stereo sample would be enough, thanks!
How many channels were actually used? There is some serious stereo imaging and instruments in the recording that I don't see in the video. It is truly a 1 mic recording? I'd have to say no.
This is way underrated. OneMic is a great concept.
Thank you Jose.
Best music series on uTube, period!
wow, thank you!
That's what a recording *should* sound like; simple, intimate, and you should hear the "room sound".
Thanks for listening

Still one of the best recordings ever.
Wow, thank you Dennis
@@onemic-theminimalist thank you for making these recordings, there’s nothing quite like them.
@@dennisprestonmusic thank you - more coming in a few months

This a great approach. Performance oriented, everyone really has to know their part in the song and how to play it.

Magic... great song, great performance, great ambience & recording.

Same feeling here about the process and the results. I with the 24/96 was still around for the series.
@ 1:49, the background vocal sung, "being lame", moves off center. Did the 2nd guitar player move his head to look at his fingers? Love it.

UAD Precision Limiter
Thank you! So just to clarify, the audio in this video is just one stereo track coming from stereo mic, which is getting mastered as a whole, right?
Correct, only 2 channels from the mic.
John, is it possible to hear raw audio from this recording (or any other sessions in that room) for learning purposes? 20-30 sec stereo sample would be enough, thanks!
What would you hope to learn?
wait, but the guitar is on my right......how?
Two amps for the guitar players placed on each side of the stereo mic. Bass is center with the kick drum.
i can't see the drummer?

It's a dual capsule mic in stereo...
AEA R88 Stereo Ribbon mic
your disbelief says a lot about how incredible this mic is. and such a good job mixing with distance and placement! oof wow. good job worth too
What mic are you using?
AEA R88 Stereo Ribbon mic
Bass is little bit too loud in the mix, but otherwise it's awesome.
That's what Worth wanted. The bass plays an important roll melodically in this song.
Hey what mic are you using here?
AEA R88
