Hi Dr. Ellie, I've been using xylitol mints and gum for a few weeks now and I'm starting your complete system today. I also just ordered some more Zellies gum and mints. The thing that most impressed me about your system is that you have promoted it for so long. I saw a 14 year old video where you basically were saying the same thing. I have two questions. I bought some xylitol crystals. Should I do a xylitol rinse after using the system before bed? And I think you may have already answered this, but should I swallow the rinse? I'm using about 1/2 teaspoon of xylitol and a sip of water for the rinse. Thank you.

Or is there actually a real issue and reall studies to prove it. ??? If you could point us in the direction of real heart health studies pertaining to xylitol. We would greatly appreciate it . I’ve had pretty bad recession on 12 teeth after removing braces at age 21. Been to many dentists since then and they said it couldn’t be fixed. Went to the dentist again recently and 13 years of not healing them eroded gums pretty bad to the point I couldn’t consume anything cold or sticky sweet like caramel or chocolate. The dentist told me they have to put sealants onto the exposed roots and asked for a fortune for 4 teeth even with a discount. I came home, found this Doc, purchased everything in the system for $75 and started following the program, figuring it can’t get worse at this point. I’m at 2 months and the gums completely covered a few exposed roots already, so the sensitivity went significantly down. Thank you lots!

Too bad you don't have before and after photos. That would be interesting to see. The big disagreement I have with Doc is her assertion that caries can be treated with Xylitol amd her system. It would take YEARS to know and to show this and by that time the caries WILL progress. The science of cariology is clear. Once bacteria are in the dentin you CAN NOT stop it without removing it. Xylitol can clear the gut of healthy bacteria. She states this in her video. It's not because of the fiber. Just as it clears the mouth of bacteria, it alters the gut. I use xylitol for as a rinse and also use it to clear the sinus. But repairing caries? BS....

I've been to 5, FIVE dentists in Kalispell MT and NONE of them have been helpful about preserving teeth and gums, ALL of them were however quick to say I needed CROWNS $2.5k to $6k each. This is AFTER they told me I was losing my bone structure, so I asked everyone of these "dentists" "why would I get a crown if the bone structure underneath is eroding?" Dr. Ellie Phillips YOU are so right a/b Lobbyists here in the U.S.A. it is all a/b money, and DUES to the association be it Dentists, Realtors, CPA, etc., etc. THANK YOU!!!!

If they said you are losing bone, that’s called periodontal disease. Perio disease can be stopped. Get a “deep cleaning “ which is called SRP. Then clean your teeth daily with electric toothbrush, floss, and a water pick. Get the crown to save the tooth. Xylitol helps to prevent further decay. It takes time, effort and some money, but you CAN get your mouth healthy again.

    • @MayaMickaMicak
      @MayaMickaMicak 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

I'm not entirely sure if I remember this correctly, but when I did research for my mother's friend who has a similar issues as you, I read that crowns are needed so that you would actually use your teeth for chewing and stuff like that. For example, my mother's friend used to wear dentures but they weren't done correctly so they didn't fit as they should, and after she took them out she stopped wearing them for years, and because of that she started losing the bone beneath her teeth (sorry I don't know the terminology, I'm from Europe), the bone started deteriorating- because she didn't use it for a long time. She needs crowns on her remaining teeth (and fixed dentures of course) so that she can start actually using her teeth and so that she doesn't lose more of her bone. So when you get crowns to be able to use your teeth again and when you chew you press on those bones and you signal to your body that you're using your teeth, so the bone stops deteriorating. Basically, if you don't use them- you lose them, just like when you don't use your muscles for a long period of time, they atrophy.
Take this with a grain of salt of course, I was researching about this a couple years ago so I may be misremembering some things.
Also, be careful with taking too much xylitol (no more than 30-40 grams a day) because it could be dangerous and it will have some side effects, don't take it when pregnant or breastfeeding, and it's extremely toxic to pets like dogs and cats.
I looked at a few scientific studies about the effects of xylitol on teeth and cavities, and most of them are poorly done or they conclude that xylitol isn't really that effective for treating cavities, so beware of the placebo effect before spending a large amount of money on it. I encourage you to research xylitol on your own, if you want of course, and it's better to use reputable sources and to look at several studies, because one small study doesn't mean anything and they are often poorly done.
Anyways, I hope you're having a great day and good luck with your health journey! 🍀

Dr. Phillips, I changed to xylitol gum due to the dangers of aspartame. I only found out about the benefits by accident when I started researching it several months ago, and I have seen the benefits. Dentists in the US don't want us to know about the wonders of xylitol. Many of them are like car garage attendants, trying to make as much from patients as they can. It's great to see a dentist that really cares about prevention.

1)use the right xylitol gum or mints after meals and here and there, maybe like 6 times a day. She has mints/gum called Zellies you can find.
2)morning and night do the following in this order:
A)mouth wash with closys mouthwash sensitive ONLY (do not use the healthy gum one.
      B) brush teeth with regular Crest. Do not use the other options of crest, only regular cavity protection basic crest.
      C)mouth wash with original listerine
D)mouth wash with basic ACT. I think this only comes with flavors, so pick a basic one, not any special extra option.

I’ve just gotten off of three weeks of antibiotics due to a terrible infection actually caused by using dental picks and brushing too hard. I just wanted to share that cleaning too much can cause you potentially life threatening infection. I now understand that I must brush very gently, I use a small children’s brush now, and I stopped flossing and tooth picks. I only rinse with water, mouth wash, apple cider vinegar in water (making sure to rinse with water after very very thoroughly), and very soft rubber intermittent brushes. Rinsing with water is very important. I also take Xylitol. On a different note. After starting Xylitol, by tummy is now flat. No longer bloated. I used to bloated for so many years despite eating healthy and excercising. 😊 Very pleased with Xylitol. I have a beautiful jar for tea, filled with Xylitol pastilles, on my desk now. 😊

To understand why the group of P & G / Pfizer + private equity funding from Germany did the study - understand they are looking to have a patent for a blood test to measure blood platelet activity.
This test was all about blood platelet activity - and activity is always increased when there is a need for "healing" or stress and in faact when people have gum/periodontal disease.

No one had any clinical symptoms - and 30 grams in one shot after fasting is a LOT of xylitol.
Our body makes 15 grams of xylitol daily by metabolism - and so we should be able to extrapolate that 15 grams over the course of a day is something the body understands easily.
For oral health I recommend 5-10 grams a day AFTER meals and spaced out as 1-2 grams x5 daily.
This means your platelet activity could rise if you drink 30 grams after a fast and may be high if you have risk factors for heart problems - (the 10 people were at a heart clinic and may have been overweight, had diabetes, gum disease etc....we have no idea about them.)
In fact at the end of the Cleveland announcement it states that the amounts in mints and gum are too small to be considered.
The news media obviously missed that part of the article.
So the take away at this time - maybe have some caution about drinking quantities of xylitol after a fast.
I would say the same about salt - and maybe they should test that next - it is great in small quantities - but don't drink 30 grams in one sitting.

I've been chewing gum with xylitol in it for two years!
I had to have an implant where a previous dentist had made me a partial after I went in asking for an implant. The first dentist really messed up the tooth next to the one that was removed as well. The second dentist fixed everything and in doing that he had to do a bone graft. It was pretty involved and took quite a bit of time and I was 70 and took some time to heal.
Now I'm healed and love my second dentist. I thought he had somehow made all my teeth feel tighter & stronger. After all I've heard now about xylitol, I'm not so sure that IT didn't make the difference in my teeth! I had a lot of stress over my teeth and was chewing the mint gum for constant indigestion!

There is a fluoride industry here in the United States. They put it in our tap water whether we want it or not. And there is a heavy push to use it at any dental office. Suppression of information or even just omission is still suppression imo. Xylitol is not carried everywhere here in the US either. There has been a study reported in the media lately that xylitol may promote hazardous blood clotting, though the one actual paper I could find did not present definitive conclusions and involved giving people 30g in one drink, which temporarily raised their blood level by a high amount. I would love to see Dr. Ellie comment on this, and if she sees a net cardiovascular risk in xylitol consumption at this time, given the excellent dental benefits that are known and proven.

It was an observational study on 10 really sick patients - and they gave them 30 grams of xylitol to drink in a few minutes - immediately after fasting. All subjects had experienced heart problems, a large number were diabetic and their gum disease status was not recorded ( a risk for heart problems).
Study was funded by private equity groups - a red flag.
To dissolve that much xylitol requires you heat it up and then cool it down - quite a procedure.
      Who drinks 30 grams.
Anyway, no one had any clinical symptoms - just their blood showed an increase in platelet activity - which can mean a number of things.
The media went wild within 2 hours of the study - skewing the message - almost purposefully.
The study is behind a European paywall - and it costs $45 to read it.

I think anything that looks like it might "interfere" with ideas about health care previously established will come up against those who'll try to discredit it. She’s promoting 5 grams per day. The research on cancer is at a dose of 30-40 grams and likely that’s the folks who are using it as a sweetener and insatiable as many who are using non sugar sweeteners are often seeking so much sweetness because they are addicted to sweetness.

Appreciate your pet warning. It's been ignored because of that toxicity. Friends had some mints in their handbag and their dog got into them. He nearly died. There are many such cases. Xylitol was added to some peanut butter brands and pet owners were unaware and gave it to their dogs for treats. It was all over the news. Sadly, I can't tolerate any of these sugar replacements. They trigger my vertigo migraines. I wish their were other options.

Hi Dr. Philips. I think it is OK to rinse mouth and spit out. But I wouldn't recommend to digest it so frequently. Because modern mass production technics can involve heavy metals in trace amounts which seems to be dangerous to be a regular food. You have to learn that from factory data, the second hand distributer doesn't care about it. For example, the xylitol I have very probably has these specifications: Lead ≤ 0.5 mg/Kg, other heavy metals ≤ 10 mg/Kg, Nickel ≤ 1 mg/Kg. I wrote "very probably" because most of the manifacturers of the origin country of xylitol I bought have these specifications.
