Bob Hope
Bob Hope rose to the top of every medium he touched: headliner in Vaudeville, Broadway star, radio icon, movie idol and superstar on television. His persona reached audiences of every age in every decade of the 20 th century.
A popular star in Vaudeville, it was Broadway’s “Roberta” where Bob eventually caught the eyes of critics. In 1938, NBC signed him for a radio show that became a fixture in American homes. It wasn’t long before Paramount called on Bob. He went on to make 50+ feature films, including the hugely popular “Road Pictures” with Bing Crosby and Dorothy Lamour. In 1950, his TV career officially launched with “Star Spangled Revue.”
An accomplished man, Bob’s greatest legacy was his commitment to American service personnel. For nearly six decades, at war or at peace, “G.I. Bob” crossed the globe with 57 USO tours for troops in WW II, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, and the Persian Gulf War. In the history of show business, no one traveled so far, so often, to entertain so many.

I will never get over how cute Olivia was. RIP.
yeah she was... unfortunately I was born in 1977 so I missed these days :)
Well she was cute even when she got older. Phenomenal talent and beautiful woman.
Cute, beautiful, amazing, and should I dare say sexy at times?
The thing about Olivia was that despite those adjectives, and so many more, she had that girl next persona, that you couldn’t help but fall in love with her.
The very first girl I had a crush on was Olivia. Her first album sounded great and the cover photo is beautiful.
@@drewgeraci8434 To be honest, the first girl I had a crush on was a blonde Canadian girl in second grade in Vienna, Austria, who was my classmate. Soon after I fell for Olivia’s voice and then her beauty. The third woman I fell for, who I am still in love with is Agnetha Faltskog, the blonde from ABBA. Just like millions of other boys and men.
Olivia was the absolute classiest! I can't imagine her ever being rude or obnoxious. So missed. Always great to watch or listen to.
My friend was on a TV special with her,ABBA and Andy Gibb that was taped on May 5th 1978 when he was 11 years old and a part of an acting troupe for kids.He walked up to her between takes and tried to introduce himself...she just stared at him, ignored him and walked away.Heard also she did drugs occasionally so maybe she was high? She had a lot of street cred in Hollywood and the media protected her from any bad press
Lol, never thought I'd see Olivia Newton-John, Perry Como, Bob Hope, and Mark Hamill altogether. It was like another Spaceballs. 😅
Olivia was always a feast for the ears AND eyes. And because she'd had MANY years of experience as an actress, she was quite good, and had GREAT comic timing - as can be seen here.
She was an absolute treasure, and she is missed.
Bob Hope specials, something else a generation of people have never experienced. 📺
They are lucky. I'm 66 and this is shite. Except for Olivia obviously.
@liquidsonly -
This was ahead of its time. This seems to be the template for the greatest spoof movie of all time - 1987’s Spaceballs.
- Especially the Darth Vader and Princess Leia characters.
Thankfully
The "True" Star Wars Holiday Special.
Nope.
*Mom* But we have Holiday Special at home
@@jasonmusic9938 ?
@@MaskedMan66 youve never seen the Mom: "But we have McDonalds at home" meme? I tried doing * and one of those after, but it just made it in bold. *bold*
@@jasonmusic9938 Nope. I'm not into memes.
RIP Olivia, Bob and Perry.
RIP Star Wars
You forgot Mark Hamill. His brain passed away.
@@depalma13 What do you mean? Classics never die.
And Luke, and Han, and Leia.
And Ben and Anakin and Padme and Anakin's mom. And... holy cow a lot of SW characters died! Not to mention all those baddies, ALL the Jedi. And the younglings. And Alderan. I mean, I thought Game of Thrones was bad, but that's really just small time. (And yet somehow, no one managed to kill Jar-Jar.)
Sorry to hijack your post. I genuinely miss all those great entertainers too. Olivia was my teen crush.
And Carrie Fischer
Olivia Newton John was such an Incredible Incredible BEAUTY.
This Luke is more accurate that what most of Dizney did
R.I.P Olivia Newton John, always a good sport. Their own laughter back in the day as they tried to keep it together for the script was what made live tv so entertaining. Not the brain dead reality crap we get now. 👍🇦🇺
She was the sweetest girl in the world. God bless her soul.
Olivia Newton John looked scrumptious in that Leia outfit ❤
Would've been better if it was slave Leia, but that movie hadn't come out yet when this aired.
@@1977rw Shut up. Livvy never played dat, and Leia was never no damn slave. A prisoner yes, but never a slave.
She looked scrumptious, period. 🙂
@@MaskedMan66 A prisoner is kept in a cell. A slave is made to serve against their will. And Chebacca and Han were prisoners, Leia was a slave. There is a difference.
@@gutz1981 LMHO A chain is as good as a cell. Leia, as far as the movie showed, wasn't made to do anything; all she did was sit by Jabba's side.
I love Star Wars! I love Olivia Newton_John! RIP angel.
Perry Como's voice caught my attention. What pipes!
Mark was always a great sport about poking fun at himself and Star Wars. He's lampooned Star Wars on The Muppet Show, The Simpsons and this and probably more I don't know about.
Have you ever seen the German commercial he appeared on?
he is and will always be a legend
@@MaskedMan66 Is it this one? th-cam.com/video/PCcgBLizbzc/w-d-xo.htmlsi=S5524w25dgIASBwF (Mark appears around the 1:23 mark) VERY SILLY!
@@JustWasted3HoursHere Ja, zat's the one! He made mention of that not long ago, words to the effect of, "You do something, you think nobody will ever see it, and then along comes TH-cam!" LMHO
Yes. It's a shame he turned to the Dark Side and became Jake Skywalker in real life.. 😪
Fun how Olivia has her hair in almost the same style as Rey's in the new Star Wars movies. Also this is hilairous.
Princess Olivia is having a little too much fun there 😂
Perfection - Bob, Perry, And Olivia - i love seeing how Olivia enjoyed herself to the highest degree ! Chester
They were lucky to act in a comedy skit with such an extraordinary Woman such as Olivia Newton- John.
Watching them trying to keep a straight face is fun.
THEY NEVER TRIED...
@@jonathanswift2251 Of course they did. It just didn't last.
yup. Made me smile. Then Mark comes on at the end being super professional :)
@@RobertMcGovernTarasis Don't talk so snooty. It's not "unprofessional" to have fun. Besides, he didn't have enough time on stage. He would tell you to lay off the others, who, by the way, were far bigger stars than him, and of whom he was in awe.
Great to see Olivia.🕊💙
Beautiful Olivia 🥰
Olivia Newton John, had a major crush on her 😊❤
WOW. Is there more of this?
This is so much better than most of "modern" Star Wars...
this would have been one skit in a Bob Hope TV Special. Maybe more of Olivia, Perry Como, and Mark Hamill, but I doubt anything else star Wars related. I don't remember seeing this. I would have been probably 11 (if aired in 1978) and was/am an Olivia junkie. I can't believe I never saw this.
Of course there's no more; it's a frigging comedy skit. And it isn't "Star Wars" at all; it's "Scar Wars."
It's sad that we can no longer be entertained by these stars. Yes, I mean all of them.
How did I miss this? This was way better than the Star Wars Holiday special. Bob Hope, ONJ and Mark.
I saw it at the time, and both shows are equally fun.
Anything is better than the Holiday Special LOL
@@machupikachu1085 You obviously haven't seen it, or at least you haven't watched it with the right spirit.
@@MaskedMan66 wow. What a smug comment. However, I HAVE seen it, and it is shamefully embarrassing. So, you are wrong on both counts. Par for the course for you though, I'd wager.
@@machupikachu1085 I offered two alternatives, and you proved the second one correct. You see, it was necessary to have a sense of fun in order to watch it.
I never knew this clip existed. Good to see material where wit was funnier than gimmicks. Great find.
There whole thing is a gimmick. What are you talking about? They even have comedy as lazy as "I have words on my back, let me turn around so you can read it". And at least twice!
It's unadulterated DREK
@@YodatheHobbit What do you mean, a "gimmick?" It\'s a comedy skit, that's all.
Bob was one of the greatest performers of all time and did countless good with his war time USO shows !
When Hollywood was Great, All the Wonderful Talent of those times; at least we can hold their memories on film (ok a computer chip) and in our hearts.
She was a goddess!!!!
Scar Wars A New Bob Hope
0:55 Olivia always had one of the best and cutest WTF expressions on her face.
This was very enjoyable and fun to watch. Thank you for sharing this content 😊
“A credit card force.” LMFAO!
Loved that Olivia couldn’t help but crack-up.
With her hair tied back, Olivia probably had the most kissable face in The Universe.
I like when they try not to laugh. Those were the days when comedy was really funny.
This is great so much pure fun,Olivia is so fine and gorgeous although the princess outfit is not worn as Leia had worn it but that would have been a definate plus. The improvisations of Bob hope made everyone not be able to keep a straight face, how have i not seen this over the years ?!
"not worn as Leia had worn it?" I don't understand.
That spike on Bob's helmet just about brings him up to Dave Prowse's height!
1970s and Bob Hope was a million years old back then!
"Malicious mutilation of a marvelous movie." Brilliant alliteration delivered by our dear Mark.
Prophetic
@@Ometecuhtli That too! Especially coming from Mark here, the one who decades later would deliver the bad news before The Last Jedi was released. I've never seen anyone campaign like that to tank a movie they were envolved in. But we know why he did that.
Olivia ❤😍😘
Thing is, I probably saw this back then, but i have no memory of it. Genuinely funny, but then, you know, Bob Hope.
Before Leia and Vader were related, they were apparently trying to get related 😅
I saw this when it first aired in 1977! The " Looking for Mr. Goodbar" reference always gets me because when I first saw Star Wars, the other movie that was playing at the theater was "Mr. Goodbar!" Never saw that one until the mid-90s!
That joke is extremely dark and mature, if you know the movie.
Thats better then the Star Wars Parts 7-9.
This was really funny to watch even in 2024. Comedy is always funny. 😆♥
If not the GOAT, Bob Hope was one the goats of comedy.
This is great. It's like watching The Carol Burnett Show with Harvey and Tim
Mark Hamill should charge Disney with the same crimes
Why? They didn't do a thing to the first movie.
He's as soulless and twisted as they are now.
@@rjones6080 He's part of that whole woke mess anyway.
He’s more machine now than man, twisted and evil
@@sagiriizumi8079 It's all those years of playing the Joker that did it!

My lovely Olivia..God I miss her.
Directed, Produced and Written by Rian Johnson.
Explain.
Very entertaining to watch! Thank you for posting this! Subscribed!
Olivia was so beautiful.
Now that is comedy gold, I couldn't help myself, so funny!
Darth Vader reads cue cards for his one liners.
BART Vader.
it's all he could do. never Ad-lib. and a war monger to boot.
@@stewarta5993 On the contrary, he adlibed a lot, including in this skit. And having made that idiotic "war monger (sic)" claim, it now falls to you to back it up.
@@stewarta5993 😂 for the ad lib and 😢 for the war monger. PEACE NOW!
Olivia would have made a great Leia
And Paul Hogan would probably have played Bail Organa. ;-)
That was actually pretty funny! We can all use more laughs nowadays. Thanks!
Oh, I thought this was about what Rian Johnson did to Mark, me and millions of Star Wars fans.
I love how Mark is completely breaks character while dressed as Luke. 😂
Good God!! Olivia Newton-John was a stunningly beautiful woman.
What a classic
Still better than The Holiday Special
Just as good as, actually. You've evidently never seen it.
I saw this when it was first on TV. Campy as hell then, campy as hell now. Laughed then, laughed now.
I'm glad I waited till the end. Lol funny show btw.
Simple fun. Glad to have seen it.
@@stevewegling8070 me too
In London Star Wars just opened when this was made for TV, went to a midnight screening that December.
Haven't we suffered enough? But seriously, a fascinating look-back into the time & place. I miss Olivia
The only thing I remember from this skit is Hope singing I'm the Pits and Mark Hamill having him arrested at the end.
Reminds me of Spaceballs.
Olivia was so gorgeous,a great time to be a kid before all nonsense now
That's the set of the price is right at 0.38 seconds
I wouldn't have read her name, I probably wouldn't have recognized Olivia Newton - John😮😂❤
Bob Hope was the best.
That was really cute. They were obviously having a blast too!
That lady broke character is so cute.
Mark doesn't even appear for 30 seconds. Crazy.😂😭💔 Otherwise, this was part of my childhood and I enjoyed seeing Olivia, Bob, Perry and Mark. I had just turned 13 when this ran. Those were the days.🥺❤️
Interesting how Livvy's hairdo somewhat presages Rey's! 🙂
as a 70's child GASP a star wars holiday special which makes MORE sense then the "REAL" ONE :D and WHAT makes that special worse is EVEN the pop up books for the "star wars holiday special were better then the true special.
This isn't a SW holiday special, and the real one's bad rep is undeserved.
Olivia Newtron-Bomb! Yowza!!
She sure was gorgeous.
The Muppet episode featuring Star Wars characters was more my scene but this provoked the odd smirk.
This was ahead of its time. This seems to be the template for the greatest spoof movie of all time - 1987’s Spaceballs.
- Especially the Darth Vader and Princess Leia characters.
love Bob Hope
always a good laugh
Well this is way better than the accolyte 😂😂😂😂
This was fantastic ❤
It’s amazing how much if this inspired spaceballs
Great upload! Thx
Everyone is having a good time! Some lines were ad lib’d (?) Very well written
Man, we are old.
1:05 See kids…..Pluto IS a planet.
Giggity Giggity all right
Ironically, it looks like Mark Hamill before his scar.
that's not ironic
You must be fan of Alanis Morissette. ( I do get your point, but i always wanted to make a stupid comment with Alanis in it)
Definitely after his car accident. You can tell by the shape of his nose.
So this is where modern Saturday Night Live learned that it was okay to laugh at your own jokes.
I literally never saw this. And ONJ was obviously gorgeous yet also too shook up to avoid breaking character, lol. 😂
🤣🤣🤣🤣👍🏻 love this.
When Pluto was still a planet
Bob Hope looks like Quagmire giggity
This is better than star wars
Bob Hope still got it!
NICE MARK REALLY WAS HERE!!??!!! Too cool!!!
Mark probably couldn't resist. After I saw his appearance on The Muppet Show, I figured he loved showing off his comedic side.
@@shuboy05 Nobody would have passed up the opportunity to work with Bob Hope! 🙂
@@MaskedMan66 Agreed!
Better than Disney
Last time I saw this, it was a rerun on a black &white television.
I huge improvement over Star Wars, the Holiday Special.
