A young farm boy, who dreams of adventure, lives in a galaxy torn by rebellion and war. He is pushed into the conflict after his aunt and uncle are killed by the Empire for the droids he possesses. Ben Burtt is such a master and legend. It's astounding to think he was the one who stumbled upon the lightsaber sound....amazing.

when Star Wars was actually new and exciting
Why in the world did I, a 56 year old grown man, tear up when C-3PO and R2 came out on stage? Maybe it's because I was 10 years old when this movie came out and it meant, and still means, so much to me. Anyway, everyone should watch the Disney+ series, "Light and Magic" about the formation and innovations of ILM, especially as it relates to the original Star Wars trilogy.

I saw this when it originally aired. I always wondered about Mark Hamill's remark to Bob Hope: "May the 'farce' be with you". Now I know that Mark was just being funny and that Bob didn't say that.

Ben Burtt deserved an Oscar. If you ever listen to _Star Wars: the Original Radio Drama_ you can just feel the adventure due to sounds, and sound effects, not to mention John Williams' musical score. It's too bad he couldn't do more 22 years later as the editor of _The Phantom Menace._
I remember watching this on TV as a kid. I got really excited when C3PO and R2D2 came out. Thanks for sharing.

When I was 7 I saw this live on TV, crazy to think how excited and mystified I was to see both R2-D2 and C-3PO on the stage, I was running around the living room screaming "Look mom look, they are all on stage at the oscars!!!"
l even wrote about it the next day in my journal at school...

Ahhh! Just checked out the journal. That is so amazing. "I watched Oscar's 50th birthday..." Oh my gosh that is priceless.
Yeah, it was my first time seeing any awards so I had no Idea what it was about, All I knew is Star Wars was on the show and it was the 50th anniversary wich made me think it was a birthday for some important guy named Oscar.
Also we only had one channel... the CBC so that is all we had to watch that night.

OK... Mark, 3po and r2 are my childhood and this oscars was years before I gave the first step into this larger world. Almost shed a tear. Thank God I was born in the 80's.
R2D2 is my FAVORITE out of all the Star Wars characters.
