You need to pull the motor from the chassis to do major work,. just like the Ferrari F348. Bugatti owners have money so VW is going to move a few more of the owner's dollars into their pockets.
VW is the parent company of Bugatti and they used the basic engineering of the VR6, added and a cylinder to make a VR8 and then arranged both blocks around a common crankshaft. Why waste R&D money when you already have a good basic design in the parts bin?

As good the LS, 2JZ, etc. engines are, this is just another level of engineering. This is probably the best engine ever designed. The fact that they can make a engine design like this is truly astonishing.
i'm guessing the intake is supposed to be that box under the crankshaft pulley? and the turbos have no wastegates. or an intercooler. not to mention the distributors it has and doesn't need. if this engine existed, it would likely develop overheating, detonation, and knock pretty quickly, forcing all that hot air into the engine with no good way to control boost.

if you look at the Honda Indy Car V8 engines, they look like they took two Honda H22A 2.2L DOHC VTEC Engines and kinda molded them together making a V8...I get this same feeling from looking at this, except the two engines they're molding together are like a Studebaker Fireball Straight-8 had sex with a Volkswagen VR6

Take a 90* v8 and bring the banks so close they're only a 15* v8 and all the cylinders are staggered into a single bank and share a common cylinder head. That makes a VR8 or "Vee Reihenmotor 8" or V-straight 8, because germans. Sit 2 of those at a 90* v angle on a common crankshaft and you end up with a W16, Though the more accurate name would be VV16 for vee vee 16 (or VVR16) but most people just call it a W. In the german language a W is also a long V anyway so "Werksleitung" is more like "VVerksleitung". So even if they say "W16" they're effectively saying "veh sechzehn", Which is pretty much "vee sixteen". FWIW I have never set foot in germany, took german language classes and dont have german parents.
This is a generic W16 engine designed by ourselves and is not intended to be a technically accurate copy of any existing W16 engine. We designed this engine to demonstrate our modelling & animation skills. We used Autocad, Cinema 4D and Premiere Pro to create the video.
I know of only one type of engine which has more than one crankshaft and that's opposed piston engines. Why do you think it would have too much strain on the crankshaft? It is possible 😉
@@BastuGubbar I would say it's still a V engine just with two rows of pistons on each side. W I would say is a grossly inaccurate description of this engine. It's not even remotely close to resembling a W. I honestly think they kept the letter W because the concept engine before the "W16" was an actual W shaped engine called the W18. It was made by combining three straight 6 engines in a W formation. But, it was never used in production because it was too big, too heavy, too expensive, non-turbo, and only made something between 500-600hp.
@@Pendragon501 you could call it a VR16 Like VWs VR6 motor except VR essentially means Inline/Vee motor, but is shaped like an inline with one cylinder head. This has two separate cylinder banks but they are arranged like the cylinders in the VR6. I like W, its unique only a small handful of cars out there have this configuration.
The engine has a crossover valve design. The inlet valves of each cylinder are operated by one camshaft and the exhaust valves of each cylinder are operated by the other camshaft. The crossover valve design provides twin-cam operation for each cylinder.

What keeps the two connecting rods from rubbing on each other on the crank throw?
They are separated by a bearing on each connecting rod. Most American V8s only have 4 throws on the crankshaft, so there are two rods per throw.
