I've had the GoPro 1, 2, 3, 4 5, 7, and 9..... and now the Insta360x3 and LOVE IT. I use it all the time.
At the point where you explained that exporting reframed 360 video as 4K makes it similar to 2.7K, you've actually earned yourself a Like and a Subscriber.
It is something that most reviewers pretty much "forget" to mention as they praise the virtues of X3.
In fact, this doesn't make it much better (quality-wise) than the GoPro Max.
Being an owner of a ONE RS, I thought about getting myself a 360 module for that camera, but I believe that it will be the same with that module, and since my channel has fewer than 1,000 subs, my sub-4K videos get butchered by TH-cam after uplopading them, forcing me to dish out 4K videos just to keep them on watchable quality...
Maybe the 360 1" module behaves differently and actually reframes 4K as 4K.
Or maybe I shouldn't bother at all since I've already sold my GoPro Max because I didn't use it, and this will probably be the case with any current 360 camera out there...

Wish I would have watched this two months ago before my Cancun trip! I bought the GoPro hero 11 and I agree I felt like I was worried about getting the best creative shots every time I turned on the camera and didn’t allow me to be fully present in the moment to my surroundings because I was so busy focusing on my camera and making sure I was getting the best angle and making sure my battery didn’t die…. When I’m on vacation I’d rather have a camera that I can just turn on and allow it to record so I can edit the footage later, and be more creative later during post production

I want to get an action camera for recording my car trips/overlanding. Which of these 3 do you think would be best for mounting on the outside of a vehicle? I'm afraid the magnet on the Action 3 wouldnt be strong enough. I like the video of the insta360 thats from up high as it looks similiar to a drone shot. Is their a way to mount it high on a vehicle?
The 360 X3 has just floored me over the years of its development. I absolutely agree. Not maybe the best but the absolute most versatile and price of the batch.

I wanted an Action 3 but it was sold out everywhere. I bought the x3 and then the Action was restocked at Best Buy. Might still snag it on Prime Day if the deal is good but happy with the x3 so far (just need to start learning the editing software).

I enjoy not needing to frame any shots while filming with the x3. I do that at home. So I'm able to keep having fun while it's filming. No need to stop and set up for shots.
Plus...I know I got a shot of anything that happened

I am thinking of replacing my GoPro with Action 3 because GoPro requires media mod or their own adaptor for external microphones, and Action 3 you can just plug almost any USB-C mic or using 3.5mm to USB-C adaptor and works

I love the image quality of GoPro and my Hero 5 mini and Hero 9 just died and stopped working with no explanation. All I use them for is vlogging, no underwater or hammering them. I’ve always had frustrating software issues with them. A new “Hero 11” replacement is another 500+ euros and I’ve had it with them. The DJI in my honest opinion doesn’t quiet have the quality but it seems to have reliability and good software and at 369 euros I think I’m going to switch

I also own the Hero 10, and what solved all my issues with it was Enduro battery. It works fine now, I no longer have any issues. I have Insta360 One X2, and I’m happy with, but I don’t edit as well or as quickly as I do with standard video. And that is not the fault of the Insta360 app or desktop, I just can’t get my head around it. So I edit faster with GoPro footage. And I have never owned a DJI Action camera, I held off on the Action due to the focus issue. Great video, I really enjoy hearing your thought on all three cameras. Thanks sharing.

What issues were you having with the Hero 10 that were solved with the Enduro battery? And are you saying the problems were caused by the Enduro, or went away when you started using the Enduro?

As a motorcyclist, I have the GoPro mounted on my helmet, attached via a waterproof connector to an external battery pack in my pocket, with the Smart Remote to operate it. Weird thing is (also mentioned by other people) is that whilst you can leave the internal battery in when using an external battery pack, you can’t when ALSO using the Smart Remote (it crashes the camera)! Without the internal battery in place, connecting the Smart Remote each time is generally a chore, often requiring resetting the connection, and re-connecting…..
I would love to see a video comparing action cameras using external battery packs and wifi remotes to see how they all perform, and how easy & reliable this set-up is. Thanks again. Paul

Fun fact, today I have recorded a bicycle trail and use the whole batery without stopping it . Total of 2 batery. I have 1 tb sd card . Some people actually care about overheating.
Ps: I own an X3
One thing that I think should be mentioned is horizon leveling. The hero 10 is able to shoot in 5.7k so that when paired with the max lens addon it can do a complete rotation of a 4k video inside of the 5. 7k frame. This allows for shots where it'll maintain a level horizon regardless of the rotation of the camera. Since the action 3 doesnt shoot any higher than 4k, I think the only other camera in the trio that can accomplish this would be the insta.
I've been using my hero 10 as a helmet pov cam since it came out and have had only minor issues here and there. I had the original action but due to the horrendous way they handled the external mic adapter I stopped buying their cameras. Looking in to the x3 though, thanks for the review.
gopro is a pure crap - recorded only sound, w/o image, just right after i was indoor for a minute..
DJI MIMO App is also a failure app, when you edit a video with their AI it creates 15-30sec video clip with 5-20 scenes only, it takes forever to do it, and most of the times it just stops in halfway and there is no draft so you have to start editing from scratch.
I want one to mount over head for my football footage but the x3 headmount is ridiculous , maybe a one rs , what do you think ?
I agree that ease of use and the 'fun' factor is a much bigger factor than you realise. I've had a few action cams and they all end up gathering dust because after the initial excitement, I just can't be bothered messing around with it and don't take it out with me. If I could just grab the camera, go and not dread the hours of post headaches, I'd take it out much more often. I have a GP 8 and while it's capable, I rarely use it which is a shame. I find it's connectivity hit and miss and usability on the bike (bicycle) pretty poor. I do wonder though how the Insta 360 would mount on my bike though, it's a much taller form factor. The Insta 360 is also noticeably more expensive than the other two, but again, if you get more use out of it, it's worth the extra money.
You could get the X3 cage which makes it mount sideways as well as adding more protection. This makes the height the same ish as the Action 4

not a single word about the overheating of the GoPro and DJI - also not a word about the crashes / freezes of the GoPro. These are crucial disadvantages that do not occur with the Insta. Reliability is the most important criterion - what good are all the features if I can't be sure that the one-off events I film will end up reliably on the SD card and I can use them.
I have a GoPro, albeit it’s the hero2. So it’s very old. I stopped using it cause of the freezing and battery life. It started shutting off and freezing so much it was unusable. I kept loosing video. Hearing in other videos that it’s still an issue is keeping me from going back for a new camera. Even though I have all the GoPro stuff still for mounting.
nice review, I have the gopro 7 (don't really use it much as battery life sucks, I could buy new ones), I have used the X3 quite a bit and I have and use my DJI Pocket 2 a LOT for Vlogging. Thinking of upgrading to GP 11 or maybe wait to see what 12 is like.

My GoPro 8 over heated and burned the battery. The original GoPro was very rugged. I am staying away from GoPro for now. The 360 X2 is working out well for me. I can see the X3 is that much better.
Starting a mowing company and my insurance policy for damaged customer property is $350. I went with the action 3 for the battery life, ability to work in heat without shutting down, the fast swap battery (and charging bank). I figure if I have 2 instances of a customer claiming damage, and the footage shows I did not cause the damage, it pays for itself. Between the camera and all the accessories I bought it was around $600. But now I also have a camera to be able to use fishing, kayaking, etc. But yeah battery life and reliability far outweighed image stability, color balance, or editing perks.
Couldn’t agree more! Still prefer the X3 personally, but X3 + Action 3 is a winwin.
Imo GoPro is getting behind
its not just the go pro app or lack of desktop software, the codecs go pro puts out seem top heavy, problematic in some video editors. Insta 360 x3 output is only 1080 from wrapped footage once you export it in 264/265/Prores to a final product. It is NOT 2.7k. it is good but not as good as it could be.

I never succeed to connect to the DJI action 2 and DJI Gimbal with Samsung tab S7 or Google Pixel 7 ! In addition DJI app can not be downloaded from google play store ass it contains some security issues !
In comparison a potential bug in the Gopro app is less an issue ...

wow, gopro still has that issue where they randomly turn off? that was a thing years ago and caused many people to stop buying them. even now with their latest models it's still happening?
I've heard the dji does good for night recording. Can the x3 do night time too?
GoPro sold me with their reasonably priced unlimited cloud storage and auto upload when plugged in w/ wifi, I don’t remember what the others offer, but this was the deciding factor for me.

Great material as lawyers Rob! One question, planning a Long trip in the desert. Can I just copy ALL material footage in my disk without editing and then format my card to shoot new material? Without exporting anything from the camera, I mean will I lose any quality if I just copy ALL files from my SD to my DISK and after the safari I come back and edit it in the desktop studio?

Although I don't mind it as much, I love my Camaras working independently, and having the choice whether or not to ever use the app.
I never use the app, only if i really need to see the framing

I am staying with the Go Pro Hero 9 which works well with the Quick app, and may add the 360 for more versatility. I do have a couple questions about the 360, can you easily remove the fish eye look from the video like with the Go Pro level horizon? Also can you use a wireless mic with it?
I got mine a couple weeks ago and you do have the capability to add a mic. I did play with the fisheye and it didn't seem hard to get rid of it

My Experience with all three:
GoPro: I've had 5 GoPro's since the hero 3 and they ALL had issues and let me down when I needed them most. I will never purchase a GoPro again.
Insta360: I got this after not wanting a GoPro but the design is annoying and if you scratch the lens it's game over trying to deal with insta. It also overheats a lot for me.
DJI A3: My favourite of the bunch by FAR. The only reason I can see to get a 360 over this is for the 360. But if you want a standard action this is the one.
What about the focus issues on the Action 3?
@@noodlessoul8356 As far as I've seen they've fixed the issue with the newer models. As for mine I don't really notice anything though I'm not a perfectionist when it comes to quality I'm more focused on something I can rely on when I need it to work. I just did a quick google/youtube and it seems like most people say it's been fixed in the new ones but idk check it out yourself.

I recently bought insta 360 x3, just wanted to know, how many minutes footage we can record in 4k at 60fps in single shot, cause i am hardly able record 10mins of footage after that camera is getting stuck and file is getting corrupted
Hi Rob so do you think the X3 is really good to get and worth my money. I have been using my Hero 8 Black, DJI Osmo Pocket and Insta360 Go 2 as my tools for filming videos on my channel here and contents are mostly my RC Trucks.
I had the Insta360 One R with the 360° lens before but I didn't like it as much, the quality was not as good and editing it from the Insta360 software was cumbersome for me.
Filming my RC crawler trucks on my own, I like the idea of the X3 that I can just place is on one spot and re-frame later or track the trucks where they go.
So I'm still not quite sure if I should get the X3 but if I do I'll have to sell my trusty Hero 8.
The X3 isn't that much better than the one R. If you didn't like the one R, you probably won't like the X3.
i want x3 but due to my system is low and my phone is budget i pick action 3 reliable than goPro.
i researched that you cant directly export video from x3 cause you need app.
I have 2 questions: Is it possible to use the DJI as a dashcam, so it overwrites the oldest footage and keeps recording ? Can the DJI battery be charged by the usb connection while using the camera ? ( I know it does not work on a Gopro) . Thanks for helping me out.
With action 4 yes, loop recording and you csn use with and without battery
The Osmo Action 3 has had ots of issues from the release and DJI are not forthcoming eith tesolving a lot of the time. Soft focus issues on the earlier batches sold. Also, the MIMO app is only avaulable for a very limited amount of mobile devices, which makes updaing firmware impossible unless ypu have a compatible mobile phone. It is a good camera however it may take a few replacements before you get one that does what it is meant to do without issues.

seems like there is a lot more data being recorded with the insta 360. Does this make for substantially larger files? Slower computing/editing speed?
No, the studio app and file’s imported is not the typical mov/mp4 it raw files which basically makes editing in the studio app much faster than a normal 1080p file on a specced out computer. Export is also extremely fast

I bought the Hero 11 with Volta (creators edition) and have used it for the last 4 months with no problems. I primarily film videos while riding my bike and the one-handed operation of the volta is perfect for me and the battery lasts an entire day of filming. I also use a Go 2 and an original Osmo action for stationary filming shots but I couldn´t be happier with my Hero 11.
Also nobody talks about GoPro Labs firmware, but I admit that GoPro Quik app is a pile of steaming garbage.

@@vulvamare I meant using the Volta grip, I can go for a day of shooting by a bunch of 10-20 second clips. I have no idea how long I could shoot for in just one sitting as I have never shot for more than 30 secs.

It’s bit difficult to call Insta 360 an action cam. If you’ll drop your GoPro, or DJI it’s 99 percent of chance it’ll still work, but if you’ll drop INSTA… you’ll end up with broken lenses.

I think the 360 is cool but, yeah, the lenses are the Achilles heel. While on vacation I had an accident that shattered the rear lense. Would have happened even with those cheap plastic covers they sell as an accessory.
I almost bought the DJI Action 3. However, the image quality is just not good enough. It still has a long way to go. It's not a match for the GoFreeze 11. Yeh, the freezing of the GoPro is such a huge problem that I don't think I will be able to put up with that. I need to record for at least 45 minutes at a time. So, my question is, what video camera is best between $1,000 - $3,000 for a food channel? Any comments will be appreciated.
I need to film for 45min + myself, and have the same question. Quality on Action 3 is good enough for me, but it splits up the files which I am not sure if it will affect the video itself.

I use the same three cameras. And my take on it is exactly the same, love the Action 3, the Insta360 X3 is a creators dream and the GoPro has all the problems you describe. Me as a kayaker want a remote control for my camera and atm only GoPro provides that. This is actually the only reason I still use GoPro cameras. Good comprehensive video.
X3 has a remote too 👍 had it for a long time

Is the X3 good for recording just front facing videos like vidoes that are not 360 cause i heard the DJI has focus issues and gopros are just trash always overheating.
It has a single lens mode which works pretty good👌 limited to 4K 30p tho
Rob, what action camera do you think has the best close up vid definition. A lot of guys that use GoPros when out metal detecting, will switch to there smart phone for close ups on old coins the find, for better definition.
Well, Action 3 is known for the bad focus, idk how it is with the second batch since mine is from the first.
The X3 is a 360 camera which work best for a overall mid-to-distance shot. So i would say gopro, but thats given if you actually get a perfect gopro with no hiccups 😅
If you really want the best for those shots, i would get a sony zv-e10 or what its called and small prime lens and a dive case

No straight lines and the edges of the video are rounded just like the spherical lens. Also, I heard its really easy to scratch the lenses of the 360, no way to protect them. I’m guessing it offers the best stabilization, but wondering how it does in low light conditions, and how easy it is to use the app to control recording. Don’t you feel out of place using the 3 M extension stick with the 360?

What clamp were u using to hold the x3 to the handlebar of the bike ?
I use a few different. The motorcycle mount from insta and the smallrig clamps. For using multiple cameras i prefer the smallrig with the magic arm.
But X3's lenses are very easy damaged if you use it as a action cam
Its true though.. never used Gopro quik app as its always fail to connect with my gopro.. until the day i sold the camera 🤣

I use a GoPro 10 the quik app is very buggy and limited on what you can produce as a end product but as a point a shoot camera it is pretty decent for 4k60
I'd love to have the X3 but as a Quality Lover I can't get over the fact that it simply doesn’t look good imo.

I need a camera with a helmet mount for my 2 hour long dirt bike rides, too bad there is no helmet mount for the X3, so cannot use it. I just smashed my GoPro 9 hero into pieces today after the battery would not come out of the camera. I am tired of all the other issues GoPro has. I use Canon professional DSLR and video cameras, and have no tolerance for junk, GoPro used to be a great camera.

Thanks! Already have the X3! What do you think about the sticky lens guard? I have it on mine and I feel like the quality isn't as good as the one's I see on your videos. I did put it on to protect the 360 lens but do feel I'm not getting the best quality.

4:40 I am! It could take hours to get one bite from a fish. Catching that one bite is impossible on some cameras.
Pre-record/hind sight or whatever gopro calls it, most cameras have this so it pre record the first 30-40 seconds.
Same with the X3. Definitely saves storage
@@RobHK Yeah wish more cameras had the hindsight feature. Sony had it on its big cameras in the mid 2000's. If DJI tweaked its image quality and added hindsight it would put GoPro out of business.

I have seen reviews where the lens is less durable than the Go Pro and is more prone to be easily scratched when filming if dropped.

Yes it is, but i guess it comes down to use.
I’m quite careful with it because it is fragile. So i always clean the lens with a lens pencil and then put it in the pouch. I also have a hard case for it, but when I use it i make sure it’s secured and rather put a few extra mins into that part.
Adding a lens guard will make it more secure but quality will or will have a bigger chance of being worse

Not from my experience, gopro 10 is by far the worst i have of these, hero 11 which i recently got is better tho, but i have a comparison on that coming soon
The only thing you forgot is that out of the Box the GoPro and the Insta360 out of the box can only do 33ft in the water, while the Action3 can do 55 ft out of the box.
Content creators and TH-camrs only need 15 mins at a time when the edit a story. When real world living requires you to record the day’s memories battery and not overheating matter

I have bought the X3 three months ago. And what to say: If I take a longer video, I use my iPhone. Especially with sun the X3 has big big problems.
Now I will buy a GoPro 11 additional.
The X3 for me is just useful for shorts or some crazy stuff. After a while it gets boring and, to be honest, I would not miss it, if I had it not any more. Unfortunately!
