  • The City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works sanitation workers, in collaboration with Clean Harbors Environmental Inc., conducted a cleanup operation of homeless encampments at the Venice Beach restrooms and on and around the Venice Beach Boardwalk on Friday, April 21, 2023. The operation was prompted by significant health and safety concerns for both the unhoused and the general public, as many of the unhoused individuals had been using the restrooms as living quarters.
    Sanitation workers, donned in white hazardous materials suits as part of the safety protocol, worked alongside LAHSA (Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority) to provide homeless outreach during the cleanup. To ensure the safety of all involved, Los Angeles Park Rangers were present at the site throughout the operation. The cleanup takes place every Friday in Venice and aims to maintain the cleanliness and hygiene of the area.
    There are two separate waste management teams with different roles working in collaboration. City of Los Angeles Department of Public Works, wearing the yellow safety vests, and Clean Harbors Environmental Services Inc., wearing the orange safety vests. The Clean Harbor team goes in first to sort through the garbage to identify, collect, and segregate the hazardous waste items such as batteries, urine, syringes, etc. Once they finish collecting the Hazardous Waste, Los Angeles Public Works sanitation workers take over and collect the remaining garbage.
    The City of Los Angeles has been actively addressing the issue of homelessness in the area and sees the Venice Beach cleanup as just one part of their ongoing efforts. While these cleanups are essential to improving public health and safety, they are not a solution to the larger issue of homelessness. The City of Los Angeles continues to work on implementing long-term solutions to address the root causes of homelessness and provide resources to those in need.
    The Venice Beach cleanup is an important step in providing much-needed resources and support to the unhoused individuals in the area. The City of Los Angeles remains committed to addressing the issue of homelessness in the area and will continue to work towards long-term solutions.

      Their was one man who had received enough tickets to "make a roll of toilet paper" out of them. If he could not afford to pay the first fine, then was the City really expecting to receive payment from any subsequent fines? I see his point on that.
      But clearly they need a better approach than this as they are literally shuffling the problem around.

They've never had direction, responsibility, Those programs would help so much...Many of the homeless problem is the fact that once you have a felony,or some type of drug arrest or even one eviction will turn your life upside down...We need to be compassionate to our American Citizens, Not just Migrants...

    I think carrying all that crap around just makes the unhoused a target. Basic backpack w sleeping bag and tent. Toiletries. Clothing? Couple pairs of jeans, tshirts, underwear...depending on season. Survival until change happens. God moves.❤️🙏🇺🇸

      You're thinking rationally, that's not what we're seeing here. Mental illness, drug addiction and/or a hoarding compulsion. Now combine 1 or more or worse all 3 and you get the daily circus fire we see here.

    • @MrFlexaBill
      @MrFlexaBill ปีที่แล้ว +2

      WTH does god moves mean? You obviously are not seeing the big picture. If these people could get it together to "backpack" they probably wouldn't be homeless. We need better and mandatory mental illness care. Just moving them on and doing nothing to address the main issue isn't working.

    There has to be a way to lock the changing rooms at night.most are looking for a safe place to do drugs so their not botherd.and to cram 3 people,and 2 carts in a barhroom stall should speak volumes.there are shelters for the homeless,but the rules are you cant be drunk or high.when i was homeless,the shelter i stayed in made everyone do a breathalizer,and random urine drops just for a safe place to stay.but hey,its a roof over your head,so being clean is worth it!!!!
