Why does no one acid-bath a rusty frame anymore? Or at least spray it down with Evapo-Rust after using the wire wheel? The rust WILL return. The sealant everyone uses, just blocks the moisture into the metal.
50$, I'd spend 10X that in replacing bolts, bushings and body mounts just getting it back together. If that stuff works like POR15 for 50$, that's crazy cheap, I do like my POR though...
I agree. It's always the bolts and hardware that blow the budget for me the most. I've never found an undercoating that lasts over rusty metal no matter how much I prep it. Mostly just a lack of knowledge on my part
3 obs trucks took em all apart sand , painted and put em right back together. Yea it’s a process but respect what god given you and it will respect you right back. Great mentality is what I see 👍🏽
Wouldn't some sort of zinc primer then POR-15 be a better protective coating after stripping the rust off? Then, after it all cured, spray the heck out of everything with black Fluid Film or PB Blaster's Surface Shield. If a show truck...then no oil spray.
@Metal_Massacre_Fab_Shop Ah. A rust converter in it. Nice. I forgot about the rust converter. Good to get all remaining specks the wire wheels can miss.
There is no way I'd take apart my whole truck and do all that prep work just to slap on some $50 paint. I don't see an advantage to this over a simple oil coat every year unless it's a show truck.
If it stops and prevents rust after yall sanded idk what the big deal is on people. Sometimes the old saying is true "you get what you pay for" but you are doing your own work and fixing it yourself and if it has the same ingredients or similar properties to other things and it works then whats wrong with it? Better than not doing anything at all. Good work 👍
I got it down to shiny metal with my pressure washer and a hydroblasting with sand. I did buy the pressure washer. But that is useful. Material and sand about 100 bucks. Then rattle canned it with self etching primer and black spray paint. Looks beautiful
I wouldn't bother wire wheeling it. Id just use a needle gun to get rid of the rust scale, treat it with rust remover wash it then paint. The needle gun leaves a better profile for paint to stick to anyhow.
So realistically its not under $50. The product itself is $55 for the smallest can, you need the tools, then you also gotta know how long it’s going to take, wether you’re taking the frame off or keeping it on
Did you all get all that info? The most detailed restoration video seen yet! I spent a lot of time rewinding so I can take good notes. I'm ready to restore my frame!!! 😂😂😂😂😂 Just for the record, I was kidding. I assume they are advertising something???
@@Metal_Massacre_Fab_Shop if you can find a good paint shop they will carry it. GM has done it for years. If you’re going to grind it down to bare metal paint only will chip and rust instantly, but the wax coating on top of the paint will protect it even more with weathering and stone chips and dirt.
I simply have plans for a bright red chassis. That's all, I actually didn't realize that was paint. I'm going to be filling my pits and everything my frame will be showing on my build in places so I'll be needing a show finish
What blows my mind is people 1-still brush on por-15. Instead of spraying. Hot mess looking. 2 now, use a product from a tiny new company without years of feedback....with a brush. I guess cause he sponsirs a lit of people on here. But Wtf. Get a cheap spray gun and spray stuff with a hardener on a frame. All that work.and then brush on paint.
What blows my mind is the finish this leaves when you brush it. I know it won’t change your mind and im good with that. But I would be willing to bet you would think the finished product is sprayed when it dries

👍🏻👍🏻
@@Random-ed2xf This is yt shorts buddy
the the pqr-50 they used is $75 a can and that looks like a couple cans worth of it
Imagine the investment you’d have to cough up to gain the knowledge and experience tearing down cars down to the frame

Pluse countless $$$$$ replacing all the broken crap when you disassemble the entire vehicle!!!

Call it preventative maintenance and your savings thousands in towing bills 😂
😂 the paint is like $50 that's about it! Good job!
50 if you buy them by the case using your tax id 😅

This is a comparable product to POR-15. It has a rust converter built in. Pretty good stuff

I guarantee this will look just as good or better than the “expensive” paint you would use 👍🏻
the reason u would do this is if you were doing a body off frame restoration on an old vehicle.
Down here in the south we just spray rust oleum on there and let it ride.

On average, how long does it take to dry? Restoring an '02 Lightning.
Not sure on the exact time. But it was pretty good after a day of sitting
I never buy a truck with a painted frame. I know. I know. The intentions my be pure by the owner. Proactive. Preventative.
I just assume the worst.
What kind of wheel are you using to grind with
It was a scotchbrite wheel.
I hate when a wheel sheds wires! 😅

$50 to paint your frame. Assuming your frame is solid enough to use.

How many quarts would I need to do a truck frame?
I did this one with a single can I purchased a second for suspension parts and rear and still have a good bit left over
$50 .. Rolls wheels away from a metal carcass 😂
Can you get it in an actual factory color aka matte or flat black rather than gloss black?
Black only. But a top coat can be applied 👊🏻
POR15 for me thanks

Couldn't help but have fun with it though LOL
Cost you in time $$$ instead
Sure. I give you 50 bucks. Make it happen.
