It's a pity what Lotus as a brand had to go thru or still going thru. Passed on to multiple ownerships and somewhat lost in between. But the handling and the craftsmanship they offered in these models are crazy brilliant. Great to see this
My "achievable" dream car is an S2 Elise 111R. This Exige S240 is one of those with everything turned up to 11. Absolutely fantastic purchase! I am envious of the purity.
I daily drive a 2001 Integra Type R, gutted interior, track spec coilovers, bucket seats, te37's and street slicks and the lotus exige has been my dream car since forever and I am very happy that you got one and will put it to good use. Congrats!
I just got a new monitor for my computer, and noticed the last two videos have been unnaturally stunning in production quality. If you got new cameras, NICE. Its great to see you guys always improving, I cant wait to see what comes from this new chapter of MCM!
I saw one of these today. Mostly here in England they're driven by 50/60 year olds that can barely get in and out of them! Respect for getting one and hopefully using it properly.
i love how no matter how many production value changes have been made to the show, the intro still seems like an early 2000s saturday afternoon fishing show. And I meant that in a good way.
Since childhood I've always loved how Lotus' looked. I'm very, very happy that you guys bought this car, please give us loads of content on it! I want to see everything you guys do to/with it and you HAVE TOOOO show us your track experience with it! Super excited!
Heh, I remember the day I bought my elise. Those gauge clusters are known for breaking. I need to fix mine as well. www.lotustalk.com/threads/instrument-cluster-issue.104218/ Also, do not allow the battery to go dead for too long, or you'll need to reprogram the ECU. The alarm system will eat the battery in 2 or 3 weeks, so keep it on a trickle charger when parked.
That'a strange... I have a 2014 Elise S3 and i've left it in my garage for periods up to 6 months or even 9 months when I was in the US for business reasons... Just disconnected the battery and never lost any ECU setting or any other issue... Maybe my ECU has an EPROM or ROM instead of RAM (which requires continuous power)
@@StephenCameron Hmmm... The 2005 is the S2 version. Maybe lotus got complaints and decided to switch to EPROM or ROM chips in the S3 version ? If it's an issue for you you might be able to get an EPROM or ROM from Lotus for the S2 model... But I'm just speculating... It should not do this though, as due to the nature of the cars (weekend toys) they often remain unused for weeks or months on end and sit in someone's garage, waiting for a nice sunny summer day to go for a spin...
I daily my '07 Exige S. Always get a sense of occasion driving it! What a great car guys, congratulations! Can't wait to see what you're planning with it. Lot's of great aftermarket options here.
@@gillhantson5318 im curious what the golf R sold for honestly. It was a sweet car and definitely a hardcore sleeper. But the exige is a different monster entirely. Those cars are insanely expensive, limited in their production and quite hard to find. Not a single one you can find online can be had Used for less than 50 grand. Also, the exige is a total gold digger magnet. ;)
Nice car, I got an Lotus Elise S1 ... 120PS 740kg, no AC, no power steering, no cupholder... just pure driving pleasure. Have a lot of fun with your new car!
When you said "No back seat" in the last episode I immediately thought Elise/Exige, or maybe NSX. 2ZZ with a tuned exhaust = drone. The Mrs Celica (ZZT231) does the drone too at certain rpm ranges. She just turns the stereo up louder.
as someone that dailied my series one elise for years, "it'll be fun" was the lie that got me through the leaky winters and scraping the ice off the inside of the windshield..., wouldnt change it though
Admittedly an IT guy here but having to “make do” with a megane sport. I’ve got stuff to carry around! I will say I’m jealous, always wanted one of these but am on more of an MR2 budget. My car makes 260hp and does 0-60 in 5.5s an Elise pretty much matches this with only 120hp 🤯 time to get the angle grinder out! Only 500kg to lose before I have a lotus 🙃
The guys have stepped up - great choice, you cannot beat a Lotus. Plus, for the last 20 years or so they have been reliable. I drive my Elise every day to work (and back) :)
I absolutely love lotus. I live in England, and 5 minutes up the road from me is a lotus/Morgan/Caterham garage/showroom, I've already started doing courses to get a new, better paying job, and I've made it my lifes work to make sure I can buy one of these cars before I die. I can't get enough of them. I'm regularly going to the showroom with the GF to do some window shopping and keeping up with what they're doing with the cars.
Yeah its pretty cool seeing them driving around daily, must admit they not really my cup of tea but the fact they are so rare and the waiting list for a new 1 takes years apparantly makes them extra special
one word. RESPECT. for all that years where we as first followers came from. this is one off the ultimate moments! pleasure buying stuff from you boys and watching vids to sponsor you!
Phew, I am so happy that there is work that needs to be done to it. Hope to see some modifications in the near future. I feel like 2 or 3 screws are lighter than velcro, kinda weird they did velcro. I suppose you could make it even lighter very easy with velcro.
Congratulations Moog, from the humble Mini to the UK's greatest the Lotus (imo). I owned a tuned Elise for 5 years and nothing else I've every owned gave so many smiles and basic thrills with so little power, these things can rip your face off in all directions with good tyres and road conditions. Yes I daily drove it for those 5 years and loved it, racecar purity for the working man that's street legal.
I live within like 30 minutes of Hethel (where Lotus are based), my first Norwich City football kit I got when I was a kid had a Lotus sponsor on it, my friend's dad used to have a Lotus. About 4 years ago me and a good friend (sadly no longer with us due to cancer) went to the Lotus factory, parked down the road and snuck through some bushes so we could see cars on their test track. Also they just make incredible driver's cars. There's a bunch of reasons why Lotus is close to my heart, I need to own one some day.
my next-door neighbour had one he was in his mid 60's and is a structural engineer for the mines and has his own private jet ect the area I live in is average suburbia houses go for 500-800k so he lives fairly modestly for the money he has (he now has 200 series Landcruiser is in his 70's and rides an E-bike every day the man is a god in my eyes)
Wow stepped up... I have a Gen 7 Celica which has the same engine 2zz-GE . Mine doesn't have the Supercharger that comes on the Lotus, Watch out for 6200Rpm when the Valves kicks up... Engines a 8400rpm screamer and sounds a little like a Yamaha Bike at top end... The Valve lift is locked out until the engine oil temp reaches about 60 degrees C, so no "extra go" until it warms up fully, if you were wondering whats going on , when the engines cold. I've had mine (Celica with the same engine) for 10 years... very trouble free...
Whoa, super excited to see a Lotus on the show, let alone a black Exige! I daily my Elise (205k miles so far). What a car! No ones ever going to dry hump a golf. The drama of getting in and out, it’s all part of the insanity that’s fun. In all honesty, if you had quite slow mode “sensible” button in your car. What boring person presses that. Life is only once, it should be mad and exciting.🥳
You say that but like half the UK car scene is obsessed with boring modern VAG cars these days, reckon they'd go balls deep in a DSG polo if they could
I don’t get the vag thing. I reckon it’s a no thought fashion thing. If they put a turd on the head of a mannequin in top shop, the same folks would be driving their vag with a turd on their head 😂
I think we all wanna know how much was the car bought for too. I got a Mooney recently and I have to enter and exit the same way you lads do in that car. Love that Lotus.
I would prob say around the 50-60k mark especially since there is a bit of broken stuff going on sounds like a whole ecu box died with all that going on. I know nothing about these cars but
Fantastic choice especially since it's still got a bit of JDM flavour in there! Thrashing an Elise on track is still one of my favourite driving experiences.
Incredibly happy for you guys. Fortunate to have had the experience of driving and autocrossing one of these back in the day and it immediately converted me to RWD. Traded my WRX for an S2000 and never looked back. That being said, can't wait to have one of these in the garage.

Congratulations from an Ex-Elise owner! You will have a lot of fun in that car! I always wanted to have an Exige but it was too expensive at that time. Can`t wait for more content! That`s a great surprise!
I’d argue that this car is all about one thing, but it isn’t speed, it’s grip. One of the best backroad and track cars out there.
imo supercars are excellent at 3 major areas - power, weight, handling. The Lotus is excellent at 2 of the 3.
Ya, with a top speed of around 150 mph I wouldn't consider it "super car" fast. There are tons of cars that can do 150. However they won't handle that well.
They won't generate downforce along the whole car either. That is quite rare in a "road car", most sporty cars only give you some at the front.
Having lived 10 minutes from the lotus factory in the UK and worked on them over the years,
its amazing to see that they are being loved my the Mcm guys! Even if they are 12000 miles away!

Who's buying that to leave it sit for 2-3 weeks? That's a daily fun machine lol
