Instead of implementing an American tradition, why not call it something more Australian like the Start of Summer Sale?

How Moog handled the car after the spin needs to be addressed as it's really dangerous, but it's all part of learning.
This is a perfect example of why you need to just slam and hold the brakes in once you've spun and are completely out of control.
Otherwise your car can move in an unpredictable way for the drivers behind you. Like in this case it could have caused a crash as your car rolls back into the path of the cars behind.
If you just slam on the brakes once you're past the point of no return, at least then the cars movement will travel along a straight vector because the wheels are all locked up and not rolling which would allow a change in direction.
This is a crucial thing for circuit racing, once you're out of control you just need to make your cars movement as predictable as possible for the other drivers so they can avoid you easily.
Flat spots on your tyres are a lot better than two or more smashed up cars.

Someone who's scared to drive around with their car won't be getting its full potential. Plus it's dangerous. And moog is not a scared dude to push things around. Nor is he a bad driver. I think that I would just drop the pan, look for the loose one, throw in a new bearing shell, and hope for the best. No need to pull the whole engine out and tear it down, unless you find something really bad. Push your luck and have the car ready for the track by the end of the week.
If the crank is ruined, it's ruined. No harm making it worse. You can get away with a lot of damage for a long time. A lot of cars have a lot of damage which naturally occurred, and they are running just fine every day without anyone even knowing that the damage exists.

I watched the guys from Lotus Motorsport using the string method on their own Exige race cars in the pits at Silverstone years ago.
With the geometry and tyre pressures set up correctly you should be able to spank that thing hard as you like even if you are new to the car with understeer/oversteer being largely determined by throttle.

@@danielgarcia-dt7fy like mentioned. Weight shift to front giving more grip there, lessening grip to rear. Remember at the track they are at the limit of traction, so if you remove traction by a very small amount at one end, it will slide. Instead, adding power gradually would shift weight to the rear making it stick. If adding power to the rear makes it slide more, then you were going way too fast anyway and nothing will help in that case, so embrace the problem and do a control to get of track if possible instead of being out of control of track. Hard to explain. If you know you're losing control, then control your off. Either by living the brakes up so you slide in one direction or direct your car off. It's important for the other cars to know where you're going.

      Yeeeahhh, Moog looked so disappointed.
100% something drastically wrong with the suspension/geometry setup on the Lotus. Like he said it should NOT be letting go like that so easily.
After all the lotus is lighter, has a lower CG and has more of its weight concentrated towards the center of the car than the Impreza. The back end should be far more planted than the Impreza's.

@@SKYWURX Yeah, no TC, and the car is sitting WAY to high, and probably too loose.... Theres a reason all track lotus' look slammed to the ground and you can barely get ur hand in the wheel hubs... Low and tight is what they like to avoid the snap over steering... They don't really oversteer unless you go to fast into a corner. Its the lift-off oversteer that will get you, that is, lifting off the gas, then your nose dives in and with a loose, high ride, you spin.

Surprised there isn't a rev limiter onboard or it's set WAY too high....or....no limiter is going to help if you downshift too deep and then release the clutch. The fuel system or ignition can shut off in an attempt to save the motor...but on a downshift over-rev nothing but the driver can save it.

I mean they do rev to 8 grand from the factory but I guess if it's an old engine and possibly seen the redline more than a few times it's living on borrowed time.
Also, downshifting at too higher speed (not saying that's what Marty did) will end badly regardless of a rev limiter.

what's most probably the problem with the lotus is the tuning on the swaybars. if you loose grip like that in every corner do you either have too stiff swaybars in the rear or too loose swaybars in the front.
so just try to do both, loosen up the rear and tighten up the front and you will feel a huge difference, only problem doing it this way is that you may get bad understeer instead, and if you do can you do the same thing in reverse but less than you did initially and you can get it just right.
by having softer swaybars do you increase the grip on that axle, and by stiffening up the swaybars do you loose grip on that axle.
