It's crazy and sad that they both were killed in almost the exact same spot on the track. In a way, it's almost poetic, because at least now they're back together and if there really is a heaven, then maybe Neil was there that day for Dale. God bless them both, RIP guys...
If Neil were still alive today, he'd either be racing or up in the broadcast booth. If he and Dale Sr. were still alive today, those to friends would be the greatest things to see on race day. Both will be missed. RIP Neil and Dale. We all miss you.
Poor Neil man "bad luck" just doesnt decribe it. He suffers a near fatal crash in Darlington 1990, retires, comes back in 1993 and gets dumped into another near fatal crash at Talladega where his car got airborn into the catch fence. The start of the 94 season has a tire go down in practice at Daytona and looses his life. So Sad. RIP
+J Thomas Rains Jr, Actually, Dale and Teresa were in the Driver's RV Park at Daytona, and Jr came to their RV and Told them. THEN they went back to NC!!
Exact same thoughts I had today. I can't believe how sadly ironic it was that both lost their lives in the same turn. So sad, I wish both were still here.
Me too! I always think what if…cause I lost all interest in NASCAR for over 20 years after Senior died. And not because I was one of his fans either. I lost it for the exact OPPOSITE reason…because there was no longer a “Villian” type Driver out there running with a good chance to usually win that I could route AGAINST. To me it was like if they took Darth Vader from the Star Wars movies. These Says I respect the Intimidator for being the absolute BEST of the best ever. He’s a legend now and that’s one thing he will ALWAYS be. Love him or not.
Watching the Nascar presents: Neil Bonnett episode on FS1 as I type this and I must say, what a good man. He's from Hueytown Al, 30 minutes from me here in Pinson Al.
You could just tell that was a brutal impact because of the damage and it was airborne, very unlucky to have a tire failure in that area. HANS device would have saved his life, if it had been invented back in 1994...RIP Neil
If you are referring to this accident, it happened 3 months before Senna's accident. Also Neil is driving the #51 Country Time Chevrolet for James Finch, not one of Dale's cars.
7 years later, his best friend Dale Sr. would die in a similar crash in the same spot. Sad! I miss the old school drivers like those guys, back when nascar was awesome! Now they're all cookie cutters, hardly any personality or defining traits that make them likeable.
Think of this one guys.... Dale Won the 1998 daytona 500. 3 years later, he passed away in the 500 and Waltrip won it in 2001. Jr won the 2004 daytona 500. in 2007, Harvick driving dale's old car won the 500. Jamie McMurray won the 2010 daytona 500 driving for EARNHARDT-Ganassi Racing. Every 3 years, someone that was somehow related to Dale Earnhardt has won the 500. Waltrip drove for dale's team, and harvick drove Dale Sr's old car
Nobody with a functioning brain blames Sterling Marlin for what happened to Earnhardt. Actually, it was Kenny Schrader's collison with Earnhardt, after Earnhardt started to turn into the wall, that was probably the fatal event, coz otherwise Earnhardt wouldn't have gone in nose first and he would have walked away. Not Schrader's fault either. Fortunes of war.
@Shammons55 Dale was running in car #3, in 3rd position with 3 DEI cars, battling 3 wide, 3 years before his son drove into the winners circle. He also crashed with a car that has numbers of multiples of 3. (3,6,36) and last completed turn was turn 3. Damn, coincidence to a whole new level. R.I.P. Dale! We all miss you.
3 years after Jr won the 500, Harvick win, then after that McMurray and after that Jimmie, Jr.‘s teammate. Harvick win in his third Cup start and Park win only like 3 days after Dale’s funeral.
I agree he shouldnt have been in the car, but you really cant tell a racer "not to get in the car"..Its sad to lose both, him and Dale Sr. And Bob Allison, lost him waaaaay to soon.
I cannot believe that I didn't know that he died, and I definitely didn't know he died in a crash. Unreal. I was a teen in the 80s, so I watched races. Not religiously, but I knew who everyone was.
Actually I recently saw a picture online, not sure if it was real or not, it certainly looks real, on Neil correcting the car to the right, as he was driving partially on the apron of the track
also if dale wasn't blocking for his boy and his car and was actually racing instead it would never have happened, he died doing what he loved and with his boots on... RIP 3
Even if he did plan his death, what was gained out of it? NASCAR's gone downhill since Dale died! First they came out with the chase of all things- NASCAR don't need a playoffs! Then the COT- which has actually gotten better, but I still miss the old car. Then they completely changed how the points system works- and I'm still confused.
still don't understand how blowing a right front tire sends a car head on into the wall....You would think he would have hit the wall parallel at a glancing blow
I got a 1983 monte carlo ss test driven by neil bonnett at the race track he had his first accident on I'm asking 7,500 have all paper work and documentation
Dale died 7 years and 7 days after his best friend's accident in the exact same corner. Did I forget to mention that Dale was a SEVEN time champion. Coincidence?
3fan4eva All I know is Dale sr is on record saying THAT WRECK SHOULD OF NEVER HAPPENED! I’d love to know what happened, almost sounded like dale was very bitter at someone for being irresponsible with the car pre practice check list
if there was blood coming from his ears he either got his ears cut or his eardrums bursted painful do u know how long it was before he was announced dead
I made that comment 2 years ago. When I was stupid. Forgive me for my past ignorance. As I have learned since then, yes, you are correct. I forgot I made this comment.
I remember Dale's wife sued Volusia County in Florida on to stop release of its medical examiner's autopsy photos taken after the fatal wreck. The judge agreed that the photos were not newsworthy.
@RothmansRenaultF1 And Sr died 3 years after he won. Jr won 3 years after his fathers death. Harvick won 3 years after that. McMurray, driving a DEI car won 3 years after Jr. Harvick beat Gordon in a photo finish 3 weeks after Sr's death. Coincidence?
yea, and plus your going over 150mph...it all looks easy but if it was a tire or something broke, your most likely not gonna save it...it just happens so fast
Oh I see. Well, you could look at each number- 3 and 12/21: 3 * 2 + 1 = 7; 3 and 31: 3 + 3 + 1 = 7; 3 and 51: 3 + 5 - 1 = 7; the last one you got me stumped on. lol The other ones though, a real funny coincidence.

That is so cool, what a wonderful man to be related to.
You and I are related, too, I bet... my last name is "Bonnett".. my great grandfather added the extra "t".

Dale was blocking for Michael... When Waltrip joined DEI, Dale Sr. promised Mikey he would win in a DEI car...
I think he was clocking for them. If he was trying to win, he was doing a poor job of trying to win.
Your on the wrong video but uh yeah R.I.P. Dale Earnhardt and Neil Bonnett
@@comradeeggdog1587 they both wrecked in almost the exact same spot
Neil's number in this accident was 51. He ran a car #31 for only 2 races in his Winston Cup career. Most of them were in cars #12, #21, and #75.
I like the Wood Brothers and Rahmoc cars.

He did smile down there when Dale Earnhardt, Sr. won the 1994 title, 1998 Daytona 500 and many Talladega wins.
When Dale Earnhardt won his 7th championship at Rockingham, he dedicated this to Neil.

I believe Rodney Orr died a few days later on the same track.
Yes he did

That is very sad. For a racer to lose his life in a fatal racing crash. May Neil Bonnet rest in peace.
