All his work is brilliant. He came across really well in this interview. What a decent bloke he is. I am impressed. Parkinson was the greatest interviewer of all time. He had such respect for his guests.
Much missed.
What an eloquent actor smart, witty, and inspirational. He's brilliant
I met Him once when I was working in hospitality, he was one of the nicest people I ever met. I was never, and am still not, a fan of his comedy, but that's just preference, however, I knew after speaking with him that it was his alter ego and his job to be slapstick and comedic so it's all good!
His true personality was shy and reserved, he didn't feel comfortable with people noticing him and made efforts for the team to be discreet and not make a fuss.
I chatted to him about all kinds, and he was so polite, very genuine, and was grateful that we accommodated him.
Honestly, he was a joy to get to know.
Brilliant man and brings so much joy to the world!
Rowan, always the best dressed and charming in room
What a great Interview and what a lovely and humble man Rowan is
Very interesting man to listen to. He's intelligent, funny and humble.
Wonderful. I miss Parky and hus gentlemanly behaviour during interviews. And 2 great classics. ❤❤❤
A great man. And a great actor. A man who loves his country...
Fantastic! Love Rowen and Parkinson, did a great job interviewing him.
Rowan Atkinson an honest genuine funny true legend 😂
I love Rowan Atkinson
The man, I love all his characters. He’s so intelligent. He’s so patriotic. I just love him. I think he’s wonderful. I always see everything he is in all the interviews.
I could listen to Rowan Atkinson all day long and kudos to Parky for not interrupting him.
The hallmark of a quality interviewer.
Yes, Parkinson was a master of letting the guest tell the story if it was worth hearing, or changing subject if it was getting boring.
There were 1 or more interuptions I saw/heard but he didn't do it incecently which was appreciated.

The English these people speak is music to the ears.
Good for Atkinson that he was himself and didn't see the need to get the maximum number of laughs in this interview. Fascinating to see how his skits and material are so intricately planned by his analytical, perfectionist mind.
Why would he be looking for laughs? He is just a comedian some of the time and a normal human being the rest of the time.
@@kingy002 Many comedians feel the need to get laughs all the time and don't drop their guard. I admire those who are themselves in public. Shows intelligence and self confidence. I enjoyed Atkinson's interview.
I agree Rod, Robin Williams drove me crazy with this!
@@richardsmith6083 Completely with you. I thought Robin Williams was often his best in personal interviews when he wasn't frantically trying to get laughs.
@rodniki14 Hi Rod, scuse the pun, but it is, now that I think about, it 'a rod for the back' of comedians, that a lot of people expect them to always be funny! Doh
I saw the last few stands of 'Good Will Hunting' last night- damn fine acting from all, including Robin; as of course you already know.
Cheers.
Watching and laughing hysterically at black adder helped me to stop smoking ! Very grateful .
What a great interview, Parky just giving him a thread & letting him talk. Could listen to Rowan, Stephen Fry & Alan Bennett just talking about life & their work for hours.
A delightful and clever man.
There are not many people in a generation that become as famous as Mr. Atkinson. Well done Sir! If our paths ever accidentally crossed I would love to thank him for being who he is.
Not only does this highlight the brilliance and intelligence of Rowan Atkinson but it shows how Michael Parkinson was the perfect interviewer. He gently guides his guests in the conversation while allowing them to do the talking and never dominating
Love this guy - Tremendously inventive...
What a remarkable and highly intelligent man.. Awesome
Absolutely 💯
Rowan was brilliant as Margret. The best.
Rowan Atkinson is an absolute legend in British and world wide comedy.
Indeed. Not just a rubber face either. Holds and MSc in Electrical Engineering.
Oh for the days when talk show hosts asked probing questions and gave guests time to talk. This was very enjoyable. All 15 minutes of it!
Absolutely 💯
Rowan is so erudite, yet he can switch his face and personality in a second. He is brilliant x
The man’s a genius. ❤
What a profoundly decent and intelligent man.
also an underrated serious actor , enjoyed his version of Maigret
So charming, Rowan.
Love this
Live, scripted or interview, Rowan is endlessly interesting and funny. Perfect here when teamed with the true master of television interviews, Parky! Thank you!
A Pleasure 🙏 ☺️
Lovely to watching this great interview again many years later.
Thank You 💯 😊 🙏
@@ScottieMcClue Would be nice to include the date of this interview if possible.
Pure legend such a successful actor he was knocked back throughout his years of trying and made it happen for himself a great showman very likeable and well spoken
Thanks for giving us a glimpse of the Person behind the Character! Rowan Atkinson / Mr. Bean Rules!
'Sir' Rowan Atkinson....well, it bloody well should be!
Doubt his intellect would let him accept it, although he did accept the CBE.
@@suedenym8666 Good point
He should wait for It. Not with this England.❤
He says "Boff" in that Blackadder way and the audience immediately cracks up 🤣 Such a great comedian/actor who has helped create some of the funniest comedy to date. I saw him live once in "The Sneeze". A legend as important to comedy as Charlie Chaplin. No doubt!
Its because he is from the North East of England. My wife is from Newcastle and there is a character in Blackadder who is a young woman who pretends to be a man called 'Bob'. Blackadder falls in love with her of course and keeps saying 'so.... Bob".
My wife can say it exactly the way he says "Boff" or "Bob" and it cracks me up every time she does because it is just funny and only so because of the bit of North East accent hiding there.
Such a great interview. Huge thanks for uploading this gem..
A Pleasure 🙏 ☺️
He is a gem ❤
Its so good Mr. Bean finally found his voice after all these years.
So brilliant
Great to see this Parky interview with Rowan Atkinson. Always a treat to hear his insights on comedic acting… and could you post the other part of the interview with the great impressionist Rory Bremner, please?
Funny but...a brilliant actor..to keep that straight face
Well said Rowan
such a likeable man
He (Atkinson) seems like a nice fella.
I saw a large grafitti caricature of him on a bridge support in Rouen. A great likeness too!
Well done Rowan
Brilliant
I was part of the unknown audience watching the final act of series four. The Video Tape department engineers in the TV Centre basement basically stopped work on all other programmes and watched the studio feed of the rehearsals and then the final take. We knew it was history in the making. It was watcged with deep respect and awe, the slow motion and freeze at the end was a stroke of artistry that topped it off perfectly.
@@tortysoft blackadder goes forth? Tremendous bit of tv. We were shown it in school to get us interested in the topic of WW1. No dry eyes after that episode.
Brilliant is rowan
Excellent
Really good interview, thanks
A Pleasure 🙏 ☺️
I wish I can flip one of Mr. Bean cars :) thank you for sharing! I'm so glad I didn't missed Mr. Atkinson's interview from Scottie McClue first lord of the internet!
Dinky-Doo
As a child I also saw a film with "Monsieur Hulot" and I have never forgotten it. Hilarious!
What a great man. The hardest thing you can do is make people laugh. In a world of so much hate. Never stop making us laugh, Please.
I was thinking about that this morning 🌄
th-cam.com/video/WlGUTISnpVk/w-d-xo.html
Imagine walking on to a plane and see Rowen Atkinson watching Black Adder Goes Forth 😂
I can't imagine I ever will, I don't expect he flies cattle class, and good for him, he's earned it.
@@twotone3070👍😀to all of us in cattle class😂😂😂
Oh to cherish the Michael Parkinson shows and interviews.....
What an absolute GEM he was with his style and manerismn.
Some of the guests he interviewed would have to be amongst the most eclectic bunch of nutcases you would ever want to see??
Many Great Ladies and Gentlemen too.
His Show was a mustwatch
I was based in South Armagh (Bessbrook) when the final episode of The Blackadder Season 4 aired, in the NAAFI with about 250/300 other very tense and overworked squaddies and it was not only very poignant but hugely entertaining. Thank you to Richard Curtis, Ben Elton and, of course, Rowan Atkinson, Tim McKinery and Tony Robinson for making such a wonderful show
Thank You 💯 😊 🙏
Weird, but he’s so personable, I feel as if I know him as a friend.
Wonderful insight. Thanks.
A Pleasure 🙏 ☺️
Very articulate and could quite easily be a Politician, thank Heaven he didn't for him and for us
Far too intelligent to be a politician. I remember at high school that some of us made judgements (sorry) about other pupils, the really very thick ones (sorry), and we decided that they'd either be actors or politicians (sorry).
We made the same judgements about the totally awful, scheming, untrustworthy, lying parasites that we met. We predicted that they'd all become Labour MPs. A large number of them did, funnily enough.
🤩🤩🥰🥰😍😍
I'm 100% certain that new Blackadder seasons with the original cast picking up after WW1 and keeping on depicting our society from then until now would be the best comedy series of all time.
I'm not so sure. As a British man of a certain age, I think we're all too aware of how ridiculous our society has become - seeing it in a comedy show wouldn't be as laughable as things are in real life.
Rowan Atkinson is outstanding. And there is one reason for the great and worldwide success of Mr. Bean. I am german and this series was one of the very few that didnt need any synchronication.
Actually genuinely intelligent gentleman, with sensible, and credible, opinions on cars and transportation issues.
💯
Brilliant !
"...and those commercials which were very successful on their own right in terms to what they were trying to achieve." That's great English. I wish I could speak like that.
'...in their own right in terms of what...' and you can speak like that 😏 😉
An intelligent man.
Very intelligent
What a couple of lovely gentlemen
The last great British talk show where the guess was the star of the show not the host
And the host not being a camera hog.
ROWAN ATkINSON INTERVIEW is absolutely great and wonderful, just doing what he loved most and TONY BLAIR never knew knew that his class mate is going to be a wonderful and a great comedian. I enjoyed every thing about this interview.
legend ❤
"....whatever it was, I'm sure it was better than my plan to get out of this by pretending to be mad.... I mean, who would have noticed another madman round 'ere".
Love that line.
Excellent interview, huge restraint from Parkie (a real master). I had forgotten how good he was
Like a good meal. Beautiful
Smart is tacit and tacit is what humour is.
My mothers maiden name was Blackadder, my father met her in Cumbria
❤
many people grew up watching his stuff, not forgetting Ben Elton, I doubt they would get the same traction today as there is no centralization left in entertainment.
In what respect?
Rowan has shown the world British and Britishness in a very clear and concise manner - He is brilliant. Just a note: this interview perhaps old I guess.
Not Really - 2007
I first saw him in Never Say Never Again as Nigel Smallfaucet.
One of our favorite Christmas movies is Bernard and the Genie. I haven't seen the series, but I think I'll have a go
If you mean that you've never seen the Blackadder series (there are four set in different historical periods), you MUST see them. I would recommend that you begin with series 2 or 3 rather than at the beginning. The first series is fun, but it really is hard to see the action. (I suppose they were trying to convey the darkness of the period, but it is hard to see the action sometimes. Also, the sound isn't that great either.) I would watch series 4 last. Just my 2 cents There were three specials, too. You MUST see it all. (If you have seen them, you will know exactly why I am so insistent. It is absolutely brilliant.)
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
What a great interview with a true British comedy great. People know Bean but Blackadder is his best work. The crowd are silent and hanging on every word and not clapping or cheering when they remember the name of a show that he was in (US shows)! The fact that he kept that that Bremner guy almost silent says it all.
No - you're not thinking - Rory - also a great talent - had already been interviewed by Michael and like the true gentlemen He is sat and listened to Rowan who referred to Him in His talk - so your barbed reference doesn't 'say it all '🤔
I have watched Mr Bean on many plane rides and in airports in China. The Chinese were falling over laughing.
What a brainy comic!
Comics often are, so many of them win Richard Osmans House of Games 😅
Legend
Sir Johny English/Rowan Atkinson
I have a stammer and i can tell that rowan hides his extremely well
I didn't know that.
@HookBeak_66 yes, it's why he says Bob the way he does in the Elizabethan Blackadders
Neither did I.
@@pogleswife7572 How would someone who stammers say Bob? (metaphorically raising my eyebrows).
??
I thought Rowan played Maigret respectably well - it led me to take a serious look at Blackadder, although I wasn't able to remain serious for very long. I love the English for speaking well; hardly anyone does over here across the water.
Get Scottie McClue on your TV and Radio 📻
The main thing is to come down those steps without stumbling or going flying... I think Rowan had probably practiced it a few times....
Have you tried them?
@@ScottieMcClue Dang! Parky never invited me!
Some little, jealous people must have denied him the knighthood. It is not too late yet.
CBE is good 👍
I'm not a nostalgia junkie. I'm very realistic about previous times not being some perfect simpler time. But this shows that chat shows are far less intelligent now. I guess this is akin to a short podcast now.
Aren't podcasts the modern day talk radio?
If Rowan isnt kighted between now and 2030........................... I'LL go he!
He could make a parody of not only James Bond but anyone else as well. In fact the he is so different anybody els that if he plays someon he does it not only as a parody but can giv the figure some extra dimension - that ability to twist every singe gesture , word, movement or even the basic concept makes him to something heavenly different, as if he came from a planet there everybody has higher IQ than we pure things here on earth. Nothing wrong with it, this is the major part of his magic. I mean the Rowan Atkinson Magic. And I believe he has fun all the time, every single minute, as soon as he woke up in the morning...
Ah! Those Tuareg campfires…
🥰
😂❤🏆
Thank You
Mr. Bean was a very non verbal character while Blackadder was very verbose.
Correct 💯
When was this recorded? 2003?
2007
