Why are women expected to smile all the time?

Though smiling is generally a positive characteristic, it falls to women to do more of it because we want to make sure women are doing what we expect them to do: care for others.” In other words, when women don't fall within the boundaries of this social script, we're corrected.
According to research, the average woman smiles approximately 62 times daily, while the average man only smiles about eight times daily.
Women have to be nice. “Show me a smile” is a staple of street harassment (the ur-creep of the genre being Heath Ledger’s Joker, a lank-haired greaseball leering, “Why so serious?”) And when they are not when they are merely impassive or thoughtful, they can be held up for mockery and branded as rude.
