I got mad respect for Kevin Baxter.
When a man can listen to a customer and give him exactly what he envisions the bike to be like .. esp when a customer been riding long enough to know what a bike should feel like .
I’d love to have a blueprinted build one day. I know exactly what I’d want to fit my wants for the perfect bike .. lotta amazing guys out there who do this very well.

This is the biggest question. Why don't HD make the M8 good from the start? I don't think it's about the cost since the bikes are already very expensive. I watched all your videos Kevin. You're an awesome man. I wish I could visit your shop and shake your hand someday.

I did over 3000 mi in July stock m8 full luggage saddle bags rode up and down the Rocky mountains and back to ILL. To me the bike performed and handle everything I asked. It's all Perspective.

There's nothing wrong with the M8. 4 in my group, all 2018s, with the lowest mileage at 50K miles and no one has had any issues.
People go to the internet to complain. You don't hear from the 999 people who had no issues. You only hear from the 1 guy who had a problem so you get a skewed view of the probability of having an issue.

The only thing that could have made this better would have been his bike sitting right behind you guys. I loved this interview, and hearing his story. I wish I knew a guy like him to learn from, and I guarantee there would be plenty. I’m a good deal younger, but our riding styles would match up perfect, because I love cruising nice and easy just like that. This was a fantastic segment Sir. Thanks to you both for sharing it. I'm right there with Bob. I have under 5K on my RGU with a 110 and breaking down stays in the back of my mind. All of the horror stories on social media do not help ease that. For what these bikes cost, the motor company needs to improve on the quality of the parts they are putting in these bike. That being said, it's awesome seeing guys like Bob still out there ridding and enjoying life! Good job on giving him the confidence to ride his bike Kevin!

That's great brother. Thank you for sharing this, I'm after exactly the same peace of mind rather than horsepower. I was concerned about buying a Road King given all the m8 issues and was wondering what could be done. You've just given me a great list of points to take to my local Harley dealer here in Australia.. when I move to the USA eventually I'll be sure to pay you all a visit.. love your work. Seems like you're still living in the 60's when quality and service was important. Great job!!

This is the way I ride as well and I would love to hear this guys experiences as he racks up the miles. My 2019 Road King has been in the shop for extensive repair every 10,000 miles for the last three years….I am completely convinced that reliability is not something that Harley Davidson is concerned about.

Very Interesting video. When I picked up my new 2019 it had a very odd vibration between 2200-2500 rpm’s and just didn’t feel right. It was 100% engine related. After the dealer basically telling me “I was crazy”….the factory rep had them retorque the motor mounts and check the gap on the spark plugs. Needless to say the two plugs were out of spec and the motor had been torqued incorrectly. The HD tech said “the motor was definitely under some major tension when we loosened the motor mounts.” This fixed the issue.

I’m 77 and ride from Ohio to west coast most years also Yellowstone National Park, etc. The guys I ride with are in their middle 60s and they call me pops. I ride a road glide and my friends ride Ultras. They ride around 2000 RPM and say look we are getting better gas mileage then you, I ride my rode glide at 2500 to 2800 RPM which allows me in certain situations to get up and go, to me it’s a safety awareness thing.

  • @thomaskirkpatrick4031

Of course you're in to business money, but to not just throw a lot of new parts at a build, and to really sit down, and listen to the customer, that's what makes a shop stand out above all others. I can't wait until the day when I can bring my engine into your shop.

  • @harryhowell5644
    @harryhowell5644 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Sounds like Bob knew what he wanted. It took two years and stage 2 for my ultra to run right for me. Too bad they can't come factory running right. For the price they should. Don't even want to know how much he spent on this. Alot more than me I'm sure.

That was really an excellent resolution to Bob's issues. The key ingredient in this equation was the fact that you LISTENED to what he had to say before you pursued a solution. I also think that Bob rides "right", in reference to being in the middle of the torque range. Now, the big question. What is the retail price of a "Bob" build?

    • @KevinBaxter

Nice Job and great story. Who's Lifters, Push rods, Rocker Assembly did you use? What about the Breathers? I have more valve train noise that I would like. I think that I will buy a stethoscope to try to determine if I have Rocker of Lifter Noise? Bike pulls hard and runs great. Just too much mechanical noise for my liking.

    Great video thank you !
Could you please list down all the items you reccomend to replace for an ideal bullet proof stage 2?
I'm thinking of S&S 465C Cam, pump, plate, lifters, bearing, Tappet cuffs, tensioner combined with Fueling pushrods, crank sprocket and shorty sum plug + HD Screaming eagle 64mm manifold with throttle body?
    My trike is a freewheeler 2018 M8 107.
    Thank you so much ✌️

Ha Kevin I heard you mention that you use Amsoil in the 117 have you ever used Red Line oil in your build ups. Which is better for the m8. Also I have a 114 and the top end sounds like I'm in Northern Michigan in the winter till the bike warms up.

Kevin does a 30 or 40° drop in oil temp matter if oil is changed in time and what do you think of luvjugs cooling fans?

Hey Kevin, do you think it’s necessary to replace the 2018 M8 oil pump for the new version?
