    If you’re working in any application where sound is critical, Pro Tools for example, a concave display is a big no-no. The very last thing that should be in the monitoring sound field is a large concave surface focusing sound directly at the listener. It is odd I’ve never seen this mentioned before.

  • @xpodx

    Shouldn't be called a 5k super ultrawide, more like 1440p super ultrawide. Just makes you think the vertical pixels are 2880p and the horizontal pixels would be 7680, 10240 or something.

    nice review but just to comment, low aRGB coverage does not make it bad for video editing, aRGB is not a color standard for video. Rec 709 or DCI-P3 are the most relevant for video work.

    So interesting this - personally I work with 3 - 27" 1440p displays every day and enjoy the 7680 pixels wide worth of real estate for all my many projects. Having said that, I love the elegance and spacious feeling of this Ultra-wide. I was planning on getting 3 - 32" IPS displays and playing with 3 or 4k though not sure my 8GB AMD Vega can handle all that but figured I'd continue with 1440p if it couldn't - Interesting to me is that initially when I moved to dual display way back when, I found it annoyed the heck out of me so almost immediately went to 3 - 1080p 27" displays and have progressed from there, feeling both balance and productivity enhancement with my current 3 display setup. The very thing that annoyed me about the dual-display setup would be a non-issue with this extreme, essentially pair of displays in one elegant package - I like! Kudos to Dell for daring to bring this to market even at over $1200 bengies it is still a good deal, even compared to 2 or 3 -1440p IPS displays! In any case, thanks so much for this presentation and all else you do!

    It's better to bring back the 4:3 aspect ratio, fewer windows to show but way more of it available at once without scrolling.
    In a horizontal split config one can even do direct comparison between rendered videos, in photo the portraits would be bigger.

    This is why I don't like the horizontal resolution notation (2K, 4K, 5K, etc.) and prefer the vertical notation (1080p, 1440p, 2160p etc). You just can't easily compare the pixel density between monitors of different aspect ratios. Being them back!

  • @TheSelfAwareIndianEmpath
    @TheSelfAwareIndianEmpath 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    what I don't understand is that 4k or 5k is just too many pixels crumbled into a small space of 25" or even 32" sizes. Ideal size would be 40" or more since there's waste of space as images on a super high resolution but small screen will be so small to look at that you have to eventually use 150% scaling thus defeating the very purpose of screen real estate
    Hopefully 49" 4k ultrawide monitors are starting to surface slowly

I am in searching for ultra wide 49" monitor for my sim racing but seems like for many not so good reviews on TH-cam especially the Samsung G9 with multiple problems. I'm not looking for high graphics details like 4K but more into refresh rate because in Sim Racing, refresh rate is more important cause we only concentrate on hitting the apex, braking and turning point.

    the problem is that at this size, and that resolution, the DPI is not too high, so text is not as sharp as in smaller 4k monitors. and for video, well nobody shoots at 1440p, so for 1080 footage, the monitor is great, but for 4k footage (3840x2160) this monitor falls way short and then you end up with a huge monstrosity without any significant resolution gain.

      Johnny Cash Overwatch is pretty much the only game recently that has chosen not to support ultrawide though. Nearly all other competitive titles support it without any cropping. That said, I’m more worried about whether the extra screen visibility is actually a distraction. Hard to know without trying it myself I guess.

      @johnnycash8447 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jonathanwilling3726 you would think in theory it would offer a competitive advantage and they'd (pros) all be using it by now but apparently not. This is not a 5k monitor, it's QHD on two sides.

      might even be the foundation for his venture on youtube :-) know two guys who joined crypto in 2014 - result: not working anymore or at least just doing stuff they like.

    Why did you ignore multiple monitor setups in this video? I never get the love for ultrawide over 2 monitors. Ultrawides are expensive, have backlight uniformity issues, take up a ton of desk space for very little vertical screen real estate. 2 monitors are cheaper, have less issues, can be set up in corners or in a main-secondary monitor set up, can be oriented differently,... 2 monitors make so much more sense for productivity

    It is not 5K, it has 7 372 800 pixels, 921 600 pixels less than 4K (8 294 400 pixels)

    Would rather have a double wide 16x10 rather than double wide 16x9. Too much height lost for business use. The 38 dell is taller and higher vertical resolution too which I find more productive.. I don't get this shallow height but super wide, except for games. In which case Samsung probably makes more sense. Dell for 38, (or 34 but seriously get the 38, you'll be glad you did) Samsung for 49 (if gaming is your thing)
    Jmho.

    Can you run games at 16:9 with black bars? Is there a performance hit?

      You could probably run games in windowed mode yeah, but that kind of defeats the point of getting such a huge monitor.
